Macbook Pro Retina 10.8.2 Frozen after returning to sleep and attaching thunderbolt firewire adapter

Hi to all, i'm writing because probably there's a bug on the latest osx 10.8.2 so, could you check that what happens to me is equal to you too?
I've a Macbook Pro Retina from about 2 weeks and in the last 3 days i've seen 2 freeze of the system, i couldn't make anything, only force power off with the power button. After some tests i've noted and isolated the issue, so this is what happens:
- remove the thunderbolt to firewire adapter (if attached)
- wait until mac goes to sleep
- go out of sleep
- attach the adapter and...
- system frozen
how i've told the only way to restore is force the mac to power off.
I'll wait your answer and solutions (if there are)
Thank you
This is the consolle where you can see the issue:
and this is when all works fine:

I'm having this exact behaviour on my 13" Retina MacBook Pro running 10.8.2 when inserting a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter. System freezes hard, have to hold down power button to reset.

  • I can't be the only one with this issue. MacBook Pro Retina Late-2013 WiFi disconnects after waking up from sleep.

Did anyone buy a MacBook Pro Retina 13" from Best Buy this Black Friday?
I'm having an issue where the WiFi disconnects after the MacBook wakes from sleep but only after a couple of minutes.
Once the WiFi disconnects, I can't reconnect to the same network and sometimes it won't find nearby networks.
I have to turn off the WiFi and wait for at least 5 seconds before turning it back on for it to auto-reconnect to my home network.
If I wait less than 5 seconds, it will continue to attempt connection to the home network but won't connect.
I've tried reformatting and deleting my network configurations as well as resetting my modem, power cycling it, etc.
    I am using 2Wire Gateway modem/router from AT&T on b/g network.
I've tried connecting to a friend's network under Time Warner Cable and the same issue occurs.
I exchanged the MacBook at a Best Buy for a brand unopened one (I hope) and the same exact thing happens with this new one.
Really, I can't be the only one with this issue. Unless in a 0.00001% chance I received two defective units in a row?
Please.. does anyone have a clue why this is happening?

You're definitely not the only one.  I have the same issue.  I spent 6 hours over multiple days on the phone with Apple support trying a variety of things (some of which are mentioned above), and none of them worked.  They finally sent me a replacement laptop.  I made sure to try it periodicaly as I was moving files and installing applications to see if I ran into it again and things seemed okay at first but now I am running into the same issue and it is terribly annoying.  I've got 5 other devices that connect to the same router and I've never had this issue with any of them.
My router is a Linksys E2000.  I haven't tried changing the router channel but I have tried to cnnecting to other networks in the building I live in and I have run into the same issue there.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 UI Lag after installing Yosemite

    Hey everyone,
Ok so my Issue here, and I think I'm not the only one but my MacBook pro retina late 2013 (8GB ram, 256gb SSD) has been experiencing numerous issues after installing Yosemite. For example, the UI lag is at times horrible; after opening several apps, and especially after having a pdf or two open in preview everything becomes so sluggish. the animation of switching to mission control is painstakingly slow, and opening new tabs in safari takes 2 or 3 seconds. I've done a clean install of yosemite but nothing seems to help, what should I do; just revert back to mavericks and cross my finger for a future update?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks so much !

i am in the same situation as you, late 2013 retina MacBook Pro 15 inch upgraded to yosemite and then clean installed yosemite b/c of UI lag after opening several apps at once... I found that yosemite drained my battery life too, on mavericks i was getting 5-8 hrs of battery life, on yosemite i was getting like 2-3 hrs most.
After exhausting every option out there (apple store genius bar help, apple repair, etc), I came to the consensus that my macbook had no hardware problems at all, it's basically a software problem on apple's end.  and until they update yosemite with a specific fix for the UI lag and the battery consumption problems, i am not going back to yosmemite.
what i did was clean installed back to mavericks... this solved every one of my problems, NO LAG, NO BATTERY ISSUES, back to buttery smooth performance, of course without the new UI however... but i can live without new design
this experience tells me several things: 1. the new apple under the leadership of cook is slowly but surely sacrificing quality of software for unnecessary updates(sales) 2. mac hardware is still good but who knows for how much longer

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15" mid 2013 reboots after panic.

Just bought a mid 2013 Macbook Pro Retina last week. Haven't had any problems with it until today when I came back to my computer and there was a grey screen stating there had been a problem and the computer needed to be restarted. Below are the two system diagnostic reports. Is this a bug or a problem with the logic board/graphic switching?

That kind of panic can be caused by an adapter for an external display that isn't connected to anything. See this thread.
There are also reports that the panic may be triggered by waking an external display from sleep. To test that theory, open the Energy Saver preference pane and click the lock icon to unlock the settings, if necessary. Move the Display sleep slider all the way to the Never position on the right. See whether there's any change.

  • Macbook pro (retina) keyboard backlight not working after Yosemite update

    Help,
My keyboard backlight stopped working when I upgraded my Macbook pro (retina) from Mavericks to Yosemite. Nothing in System Preferences -> Keyboard makes a change. This is a feature I use a lot. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

    Try a SMC reset:

  • MacBook Pro Retina 2013 will freeze if waked from long sleep if left with open lid

    Hello!
    Have a strange problem.
My new MacBook Pro Retina 13 will not wake from sleep state if left with open lid for a long period of time. (8-12 hours)
Ship happens ONLY in this case and only if left with open lid.
Screen lights up, I see a user window with password invitation - but no mouse pointer is present and keyboard doesn't respond and the apple on the backside of the lid is light up even if I close the lid.
TimeCapsule backups are creted during sleep state, no other malfunctions detected during use - laptop funtions normally from any side except this problem

    Solved.

  • MacBook Pro (Retina) has S/PDIF Mini-TOSLINK? Audio Input? Boot as FireWire Drive?

I love all the Apple MacBooks and I fall in love with the new MacBook Pro (Retina) but then I review all the specs and I feel that some things are missing:
    It has S/PDIF Mini-TOSLINK? I use this a lot!
    It hast Audio Line-In input?
I only see output and somebody told me that the same port could do both, but what abaout using the MacBook with Guitar Rig? I need both, input and output!
Sometimes you need to boot the MacBook as FireWire target disk mode, the new MacBook doesn't have any FireWire port, you can plug a Thunderbolt to FireWire adaptor, It could work? how can I boot the mac as target disk mode?
The last thing that was missing is the optical drive but that is another story!
    Thanks for your answers!

well, like Point - counter point (for those old enough to remember it) let me give you my 0.02 cents worth
YES, it is SO worth it.  The big expense is the 512G flash SSD.  Besides being more shock resistant, not subject to fragmentation, its blankty blankaty FAST!  So many programs load twice as fast.  (I am running windows in Parallels, a huge diff. in start up speed).  Video editing SO much faster.   That is a huge part of the cost.  The rest is the lovely screen.  When I picked mine up yesterday (Tuesday) opened it in the apple store, put it next to the current 15" MBP and there is a noticeable improvement including less glare.
One feature that is not mentioned, while the screen is 2880 x 1800 you get 5 different display resolutions that all are very sharp.  For OLD eyes, you can go down to 1024 x 640 (OK, WAY TOO BIG) and when I am writing code, I want a lot of space, so bring it up to 1920 x 1200.  The default is in the middle.  Most other LCD screens have one "GOOD" resolution.  To me, this is a HUGE feature!
The speakers are MUCH better than the ones on my previos MBP. and the fan is MUCH quieter (I play Second Life a lot and that heats up the computer so the fans are always at max!)  Oh yea, the video card is noticably faster with Second Life.  I am getting twice the FPS.
I am very happy with the jacks.  Yes, if you need wired ethernet each day, it would be nice to have that built in, I guess ditto for video out, etc. but I dont mind buying the adapters when I need them (Yo Apple, I am waiting!).  Ditto with the external DVD Drive.  If I was living on an airplane and wanting to watch movies on each flight, thish would NOT be the laptop for me, but I figure I use a DVD maybe once every other month or so. (and since I have more than one mac, the remote DVD option works fine with me.  Worked fine for years with the mac air!)
Bottom line, this very expensive computer seems very polished to me.  If I was just not so impatient to wait 2-3 weeks to order one, I would have an extra 256G storage and 16G of ram!  But I guess I can settle for this "entry Level" machine

  • MacBook Pro (retina display)screen going black after some time.

Hi, I bought my macbook pro 13" (retina display) a week ago. I haven't configured the screen saver yet but today when I was using the apple tv to watch a movie already on my macbook hard disk the screen went black but when I touched the trackpad it came back but the Airplay would get disconnted.

Set the display to not sleep when watching movies.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver

  • Macbook Pro/Airport/Leopard drops Net connection after shutdown or sleep

I see all kinds of postings about problems with Airport and Leopard. I am pretty sure that the connectivity problem in my case stems from Leopard alone. I just bought a new Macbook Pro with Leopard installed. I have been using MacBooks running 10.4.x with Airport Extreme for several years with no problems. I still have no connectivity problems with 10.4, which is being used right now on the same Airport network. But, every time I shut down the Mac Pro or put it to sleep, it drops the connection. Here is a very weird thing: If I use network diagnostics, I can get back online right away after I put in my password (which is never saved). If I go through system preferences, it does not recognize my password at all (which is saved). I get this message: incompatible security. What does that mean?? There is something screwy in the Leopard software regarding security and passwords. Does anyone out there have a clue what is going on? I am not a computer expert and have no idea how to change security settings. I'm not even sure what they are. I do not want to do anything that will screw up the connectivity with the Macbooks running 10.4.11.

I had the same problem on my MacBook Pro for the last month or so after "updating" to 10.4.10. Yesterday I tried Loki's fix but couldn't connect at all after that. So I did an archive/install of 10.4.9 and it works better than ever before. I get full signal and it is a lot snappier and faster. The problem is likely in the 10.4.10 update, hopefully Apple will get that fixed in 10.4.11

  • MacBook Pro Retina Display 15" Late 2013 after 10.9.3 Update

    All,
Thank you in advance for your time, support and recommendations.
After the install of the latest Maverick update on May 16, 2014 to 10.9.3, the following issues began.
    - Upon boot my screen will turn a lavender color and then back to the normal screen with the login prompt
    - Additionally, the screen is fading in and out - it goes dim and then it gets bright - repeatedly
    - The same thing happens with the backlit keyboard - keyboard is lit and then goes dim and off and suddenly back on - repeatedly
My MBP is under warranty until December 2014.
    Any suggestions ...
    Thanks,
    Mason

I have a similar problem with my late 2013 MBP Retina.
I took it over to the Apple store on Friday night, and the genius that helped me said, "I've never seen that before".
What happens, and it is not at every boot up is, the apple logo will turn yellow, with a red outline around it.
It happens for a split second, the screen turns bright white, then boots normally.
He told me he thought it had to be software related, and not hardware.
We tried to reinstall OSX, same thing happens.
The next thing he wants me to try is a complete redo of the computer, putting it back to it's factory state, and see if it happens, when it's "clean".
I told him I've only noticed this since the latest update, and I really don't want to spend a weekend deleting and reinstalling the system.
I might take it back, and let them play around with it.
I really don't want to waste my time figuring out their issues.
I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a hardware failure.
I figure if you spend 2200.00 on a laptop, there should be someone that "has seen this before".

  • Just bought a macbook pro retina 15in 6 weeks ago after asking if there would be an update soon (which they said no) and now they have upgraded it!!

Am furious that I have wasted my money $2100 - I would have waited just over a month if I had known - is there any comeback - will apple upgrade my macbook?

You can always ask but I'm betting that Apple won't replace the machine. The speed increase was modest, so I wouldn't worry too much about it anyway.

  • Macbook Pro retina 13'' stuck at login after restart

MBP restarted (probably due to kernel panic) and is now stuck at the login screen. It shows the apple logo, the users and the restart/etc. options. I can't click on any of the icons to enter a password. Should I boot into recovery mode? Running OSX 10.9.5 if that helps.

Try booting safe mode:  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262 , then try again, it can take some time to boot in safe mode. If works try restart the mac (it boots automatically to normal boot mode). Then try again. If not works try using the arrow keys.
    I hope this helps
