24-inch Mid 2007 as external display for Macbook Pro Retina?
I'm a video editor looking for a new laptop. Tough decisions, but these facts may help my decision...
Can I use my 24-inch Mid 2007 as external display for Macbook Pro Retina?
And if so, would the Macbook be able to access the external hard drives that are connected to the iMac? Or do the external hard drives have to be connected to the Macbook Retina?
Retina's picture quality is just incredible but compared to Macbook Pro non-retina you sacrifice: disc drive, port options, customization, anti-glare screen. And its more expensive. ArghhI would use the retina as the primary screen for the canvas and viewer, while putting the browser and timeline on the iMac.
Apple won't help here. Unfortunately, they leave they're old products in the dust and wouldn't waste time writing an article about connecting a macbook retina to an '07 iMac.
Thank you for replying though Ralph. The answer has to be out there somewhere.

I'm about to buy the MacBook Pro Retina 15 inch in USA. I will be using predominantly in Europe. What accessories should I be buying?
We can't discuss what Apple is going to do or new products, but it does make a lot of sense if your gut feelings tell you to buy now.
I got a really bad feeling and ran out and got the last of the 17" MBP's with anti-glare and Snow Leopard.
Turned out I was right in listening to my gut, the abortion of OS X Lion came out killed my 15", Cupertino HQ was pwned by Flashback and Apple pulled the 17" MBP completely off the market.
Apple has purposely put the Retinas front and center in their stores, so the majority of the know-nothings buy those. If they thought a bit about buying a machine with future options in upgrade options they would, like you, choose the non-Retina.
Really if you want choice in hardware, your going to have to switch to a PC. As you can pretty much get anything you need on that platform. Apple's hardware choices have been sealing up and their OS X is turning into iOS, soon it's going to be nothing more than a dumbed down iPad.
Windows 8 Pro can be downgraded to Window 7 even, and since Win 7 is supported until 2020, you should be set for quite a few more years. The choice of software is vast on Windows and it's sort of the next eveolutionary step up actually. -
Hey guys ı really need your help. I bought macbook pro retina 15 inch 2 weeks ago and it came with installed mavericks of course but ı want to create a recovery disk and to do that ı need to download mavericks installer from app store but when i click to download mavericks from appstore purchased part ı get a message says " Your purchasing process couldnt complete. OS X Mavericks cant be installed to this computer." How can ı solve this problem!??
One way around tis is to borrow a Mac that can run Mavericks and then the download will work. You can use these instructions:

Though they are for Mt. Lion, the same steps will work.

MacBook Pro Retina 15 Inch acting up.
Ok, I have several things going on:
My spotify app started crashing on startup, and the my Adobe Premiere CC programs stopped functioning correctly. CS6 Master Collection worked before, and then started doing the same thing.
Now my touch pad sometimes becomes unresponsive to certain gestures (or stops working completely).
I have used EtreCheck to get system details - I am removing as many of the third party applications as I can, but I ran the check first in case it was one of them that could still be causing a problem.

During your use of your Mac it looks to me that you've installed various bits of software that without you knowing, also installed various little things that are normally not visible, and which you need to get rid of. They are not essential, and are probably causing most of your problems.
My own preferred way of finding this invisible stuff is to use a piece of freeware called EasyFind, from here.
Unlike Apple's built in search facility Spotlight, EasyFind doesn't rely on an index but searches directly on your hard drive and will quickly find everything, including the things that are normally hidden.
To find the things I suggest you should trash, do the following using EasyFind. You may need to type in your password for some of these things to happen.
1. Search (only folders) for a folder called Startup Items and open it. In there you'll find CUDA: Path: /System/Library/StartupItems/CUDA . Move it to the trash using the EasyFind menu item.
2. Search (only folders) for a folder called Launch Agents and open it. In there you'll find the Launch Agents listed by EtreCheck. Trash them all. You don't need them.
3. In the same search, EasyFind will probably also find a folder called User Launch Agents. Trash this whole folder along with anything that's in it.
4. Search for a folder called User Login Items. Open it and trash everything that's in there.
5. Search for a folder called Internet Plug-ins. Open it and trash everything that's in there. You will probably also find a folder called User Internet Plugins. Trash the whole folder and everything it contains.
6. Search for a folder called 3rd Party Preference Panes. Open it and trash everything that's in it.
Then restart the computer and see if it performs better.
At various points you may get a window that tells you you need to reinstall Java, Acrobat Reader, and Adobe Flash Player. If so, go ahead and do this.
I hope this helps. -
Hi
I got a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) running on Yosemite.
I wonder how is possible to enable the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M card?
I am looking around but I cannot find documentation explaining about how to enable the other video card.
Any tips/help?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)preview messing with PSD file
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
2.5 GHz Intel Core i7
v: 10.10.1
after turning my PSD painting upside down using preview, preview modifies the PSD document and flattens all my layers.
now I lost all my layers in my painting!
Why does preview mess around with PSD documents? Please fix this!Hi David. I don't have as modern a Macbook Pro as you, mine is a 2012 model, but perhaps I can help. I often find that my SD card will not load when I first insert it. I have to remove it and then put it into the slot again firmly.
You also haven't posted any information about the SD card. What size is it, do you know how it is formatted, has it worked in that same mac previously, where did it come from, does it currently work in another device (such as your camera)? This sort of information will help to narrow down the problem.
If you post some more information I'm sure people will try to help you. In the meantime, if you look at your post again you should see "More Like This" at the bottom of the page and you may find an answer in some of those related posts.
Hope that helps.

Folks,
I have exacly same sympton described here on my 5 day old 15 inc macbook pro.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5296
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013): Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive
Has anone tried to apply this patch on 15 inc ?
Kind Regards,
NeroshigeThe patch is only for MBP late 2013 13 inch. 15 inch is not able to install this patch
I'm facing this problem intermittently.
When my keyboard & trackpad went unresponsive, I plug in my USB keyboard and the keyboard & trackpad went back normal.
I search the web and somebody highlight it may due to connector to keyboard/trackpad appear to be curled.
Not sure is hardware problem or software bug... -
whats the maximum resolution supported @ 60 Hz on an external display for mid 2014 macbook pro retina 13 inch ?
I don't know where you found 1920x1080, but that isn't the max. The INTERNAL display can even support more than that.
The maximum resolution is really hardware based, and since Thunderbolt 2 has a Mini displayport connector (Mini Displayport 1.2), the max resolution for Mini Displayport is 4k (3840x2160).
PLEASE NOTE: Not all adapters can support that resolution, most monitors that can run 4k @60Hz have Displayport 1.2 (The most recent revision), Mini Displayport 1.2, and HDMI 2.0. DVI dual link can run 4k, but only 24-30Hz, depending on the monitor.
Hope this helps!! -
MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch battery life on Yosemite
Has anyone noticed impact on the battery after upgrading to Yosemite? I found only one article online that talks about the impact. I followed the instructions but still the battery life did not improve. I'm running MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013, 15-inch, 2.6GHz Core i-7, 16GB RAM.
I think that I should be getting more than 8h of life when fully charged.
Link to article on iMore.com: http://www.imore.com/how-resolve-battery-life-troubles-your-retina-macbook-proSo here is an update: I've followed the article posted by OGELTHORPE (Thank you!). What I actually did is 1. Reset the SMC and 2. Reset the PRAM (MacBook Air SMC and PRAM reset).
What I've seen so far: Once I did the reset, I would guess that the system needed to re-calcualte again the battery charge. Initially after I disconnected from power, it started with a measurement from under 3:30h. After 45 minutes running on battery it is showing again 8:45h remaining @ 93% charge. What I noticed is that every time I put the laptop to sleep this repeats - starting with some low time measurement and slowly climbing. I think that this could be a bug in the software and the battery charge calculation method is somehow not working properly. I wonder after those resets if the OS needs to get into a couple of battery charge cycles and the battery is calibrated again?
I don't recall having this issue with the last year's release of Mavericks.
I hope someone from Apple sees this and address this with the next OS X update. -
Macbook Pro retina display 13 inch 2014 model stopped charging. Charger LED also not on while plugged in. The battery fully drained off so the system can not be started but the system can detect the charger when earlier it was switched on before draining off the charge. Charger type magsafe 60W.
Once you have examined the power inlet on the computer for dirt, and made certain that the pins on the end of the MagSafe cord are free to move in and out to make contact, there is very little you can do yourself.
You will need to visit your Apple Store (FREE with appointment) or your Apple-Authorized Service Provider (policy varies). They work on these all the time and have good expertise and lots of spare parts to try to determine the problem. -
Can the Macbook Pro non Retina and Macbook Pro Retina have their battery replaced?
Can the Macbook Pro non Retina and Macbook Pro Retina have their battery replaced?
Yes. You have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it replaced.

Macbook pro retina 15 inch running Yosemite extremely slow previews/rendering
Hello,
So I got the newest version of Macbook pro retina 15 inch (mid-2014) basic model with 16GB of RAM, updated the OS to Yosemite, got Adobe CC on board, was happy for a second until I tried to edit stuff in After Effects. Preview plays at 13 fps at best when rendering something basic as a shape going from one point to the other. If you add footage it is 7fps or something. Already tried some options that were suggested on other threads like disabling App Nap but so far nothing helped. Please help me out, I'm really getting frustrated because of this.
Also, it takes ages to render final comp form Premiere Pro as well.See this page for resources about making After Effects work faster: http://adobe.ly/eV2zE7
