Macbook Pro Retina 15" charging slowly

My macbook pro retina was bought in august 2012, and yesterday it just started having charging/battery problems. All of a sudden when I plugged my computer in to charge it got REAL slow and said my estimated time until my battery was full was over 20 hours. I tried resetting SMC etc.  and it seemed to change the estimated time, but it still seems slow, and now my battery life seems short. I'm not sure what to do, if I can do anything about it or if my battery is just dying all of a sudden. If you know anything please help!!!
Thank you!!

This is what it gave me(i took off the serial num and stuff):

If anyone could help that would be amazing!!

I've noticed the same thing on my 13" rMBP. Plug in the MagSafe 2, and sometimes the light comes on instantly. Sometimes there is a 20 second delay before the charging indicator kicks in. And occasionally, the light has turned off hours after it has been on for awhile.
Anyone else seeing this issue? If it is widespread, it could just be a firmware update to fix.

  • Static elictricity on MacBook Pro Retina's body disrupts use while charging, any way to ground it?

Hi, I have this old MacBook Pro Retina I got a couple years ago, and part of its original charging kit's wires gave up right next to the MagSafe2 plug, so I purchased a new power adapter, and it appears to not be grounded at all.
When the notebook is charging, static on its metal body is so strong it completely disrupts any work. I cannot use trackpad almost at all, it won't register taps and the coursor is jumping all over the screen even if I don't move my finger at all. To use the notebook I have to keep one of my palms on the metal part of it, and even then after a while my fingers get a little burned on the trackpad, which is inconvenient to say the least.
Anyone have any ideas, how can I can fix this or at least reduce the effects?
I'm in Russia, it's 220v here, power outlets with 2 plugs (no 3rd metal one for grounding).
I've read a bunch of articles about grounding outlets, but they all suggest to bury a metal cable into some soil, which is not possible as I live on 21st floor.
I figured it's the new power adapter's fault, because the old one doesn't act up like that (but I am reluctant to keep using it because its inner metal wiring in places is not covered by plastic anymore, and I fear it might cause a short circuit or something).
When I purchased the new adapter, I was assured it's completely original, but now I suspect it might be a counterfeit, so I would just have purchased another new one, but kinda afraid it will not be original too and will cause the same problems.

It keeps the green light on for a while after I unplug it from the notebook. The scratched part is extension from the old adapter.

  • Macbook Pro retina display 13 inch stopped charging. Charger LED also not on while plugged in. The battery fully drained off but the system can detect the charger when it was switched on.

Macbook Pro retina display 13 inch 2014 model stopped charging. Charger LED also not on while plugged in. The battery fully drained off so the system can not be started but the system can detect the charger when earlier it was switched on before draining off the charge. Charger type magsafe 60W.

Once you have examined the power inlet on the computer for dirt, and made certain that the pins on the end of the MagSafe cord are free to move in and out to make contact, there is very little you can do yourself.
You will need to visit your Apple Store (FREE with appointment) or your Apple-Authorized Service Provider (policy varies). They work on these all the time and have good expertise and lots of spare parts to try to determine the problem.

  • My MacBook Pro retina 2013 won't charge. I've checked all connections which are all ok. Little red light shows on magnetic plug, instead of usual green.

My MacBook Pro retina 2013 won't charge. I've checked all connections which are all ok. Little red light shows on magnetic plug, instead of usual green.

If you are seeing a Red LED, you may have a faulty MagSafe Adapter.
I remember reading that the orange light is produced by a combination of a Red and Green LED. If that's the case, It seems that the adapter isn't lighting the green LED properly at that time.
I would suggest you seek service with your nearest Genius Bar (Apple Retail Store) or Apple Authorised Service Provider as they have access to diagnostics which may assist in isolating any hardware issues you may be experiencing.
    Cheers.

  • Macbook pro retina display 15" charger getting too hot... any advice?

I have had my Macbook pro retina 15" since Jan 2014 and it has been working fine. Just recently, I have noticed that the charger block and the connector to the laptop gets extremely hot as does the actual laptop. I have looked around on the net and most of the discussions regarding this have been on earlier models. The charger block itself is so hot that it emanates heat and is too hot to touch! The plug into the laptop is pretty darn hot as well. When charging, I can't keep the macbook on my lap because it gets too hot.
I have checked all the connectors and the connections of all bits involved and they all seem good. I have also tried to minimalise all programs that are running.
Just wondering if someone can suggest anything, otherwise it looks like a trip to the store
    Many thanks in advance

Bfore you run to the store try this SMC ret, it fixes

  • I got my magsafe 2 60w is it safe to charge macbook pro retina 15 pouces

I get my magsafe 2 60w is it safe to charge macbook pro retina  15 pouces

It's not a good idea to use a lower wattage power supply than what the machine shipped with. The 15" comes with an 85 watt adapter and that's what you should be using. You can go in the other direction with no problem, like using an 85 watt on a machine that came with a 60. If I were you, I go get the correct charger.

My relatively new MacBook Pro Retina 13" late 2013 gets really warm when charging only and the power block gets kind of hot too !

It wasn't that hot before I updated to the mac osx marvicks.
Has to do with software compatiability and the OS.
I would check with sketchbook pro / corel painter 12  for a update. Sometimes version upgrades lag behind before a more compatible release.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Display Battery Charging?

When first purchased a MacBook Pro Retina Display and first open it to use, is it best to immedicately attach on the power supply while first booting it up for 1st use?
Also how long it take to charge completely because it doesn't have the battery level of charge at the side of the notebook anymore?
Next how often should I completey drain the battery and How Low I should let the battery get before charging the laptop again?

Fortunately, we have an entire page (with links to additional information) regarding the batteries in our devices.

  • Macbook pro retina battery won't charge fully

    Hello,
Im not sure why but my 1 year old macbook pro retina 15inch won't fully charge. It gets to a charge between 75% and 88% and it will at that point stop charging.
I have attached an image below that shows how the battery has stopped charging. I have taken very good care of this laptop and am very surprised to see such an issue.
    Thanks,
    FF

    Have you tried resetting SMC?

My brand new MacBook Pro retina display not charging the battery any more after 3 weeks...no green or red Led. Any one now about this problem? Thanks

Either the power brick is damaged, or the charging circuit is on the blink, or both. Either way, a trip to the Apple Store or the Apple Authorized Service Provider is in order, as this ain't no bargain basement toy.
In the meantime, can attempt an SMC Reset to see if it helps.

There is no requirement to charge for any predetermined amount of time. You can charge at any time, for any amount of time.

  • My Macbook Pro won't charge when it's on, only charges VERY slowly when it is shutdown

My Macbook Pro won't charge when it's on. It only charges VERY slowly when it is shutdown. Recently when it was charging shutdown, I could not get it to turn on. The only way it turned on was by removing the charger from the Macbook Pro. This only happene one time but still wondering what is going on with this battery.
    Thanks for the help!

First see the MagSafe troubleshooting tips:Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters and check to see that all looks ok.  You might want to try using another charger in case the charger is faulty.  If that doesn't help, take the MacBook Pro and charger to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians test the system to see where the fault is.

  • Does the battery charging in the macbook pro retina automatically cut off when the battery is fully charged?

Does the battery charging in the macbook pro retina automatically cut off when the battery is fully charged? or does it continue charging? In which case,is it better for the battery life to switch off the power supply or leave it on while using the macbook?

Yes, and the pilot light on the MagSafe2 connector changes from orange to green. If you unplug, you will start draining the battery again, whereas if plugged the Mac will take power from the brick and leave the battery in a charged state.
