Macbook Pro Retina 2012 shuts down when selecting Recovery HD !!

Hello guys,
I tried to reboot my macbook pro retina 2012 and I held down "Option" key while my macbook was restarting but it won't be able to access into the Disc Utility Menu.
So I really need help to get my macbook format the hard drive, reinstall OS 10.x.x ( any suggestion?). Thank you for reading my post and I look forward a good answer.

Restart the computer and hold down the COMMAND and R keys to boot from the Recovery HD. If that does not work, then you either have a defective Recovery HD or a failing hard drive.
What you can do is this:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • 13" MacBook Pro (late 2012) shuts down randomly

Mac book pro 13" retina shuts down randomly and without warning. The screen goes black and it takes several minutes before it will start back up.
I've taken my mac book pro 13" retina to the genius bar, twice. The first time I was told to remove some software, which I did and the computer continues to randomly shut down. The second time I was told to make sure that I have at least 12 GB of storage available, which I made happen and the computer continues to shut down.
What I can tell you, and what I've told genius bar, is:
The shut down happens when it is either plugged in or not. The shut downs happen toward the middle of the day when the computer gets warm. It is not hot, just warm. If I keep a external fan pointed at it all day I do not get any shut downs. I've spend almost a full day at genius bar and I am looking for some help/approach/information that would help us solve this problem.
    Computer Info:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012)
Yosemtie 10.10.1. Note I was running the latest Mavericks and had the problem too. The upgrade did not help.
    Thank you.

Their tests are superior to the AHT and so I am surprised that they did not pick up on any hardware faults.  The responses that you say they gave you are in my opinion, to be charitable, worthless.  The fact is that the quality of the technicians at a genius bar are not consistent, some being better than others.
If I were in your position, I would firmly but politely demand the the MBP be serviced so that the AHT not produce that error any more.  If need be, send the MBP to a repair facility where more experienced personnel can work on it.  If you have Apple care, there should be no charge.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook pro Retina suddenly shuts down

I've bought a macbook pro retina 15" about 2 weeks ago and it suddenly shut itself down today. I believe I heard a short circuit sound. The macbook is quite hot, so I assumed that it was overheating. But I still can turn it on and It has been working perfectly until now. Is anyone has the same experience? Should I bring it back to the store asking them to check on it?

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Why does my mid 2012 MacBook Pro Retina latptop shut down during software installation/updates?

Whenever I attempt to update preexisting software apps or install new ones, my mid 2012 MacBook Pro w/ Retina display will shut down and reboot itself. Obviously this has gotten frustrating as several of my existing apps are woefully out of date.
Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Thanks for the assistance and sorry for the late reply, I'm overseas doing HA work and don't always have internet access.
I tried utilizing the methods you mentioned and upon doing so I received the following message:
So I followed this set of instructions and when verifying and repairing disk permissions the window stated that the partition was okay.
After logging back in, I attempted to download a software update, sadly the system shut itself down and rebooted and I am still unable to install any updates for my out of date apps. I won't return to the States until June, I may have to wait until then to resolve this issue.
Thank you again for your assistance.

  • Macbook Pro Retina keeps shutting down during graphics intensive work

Today my macbook began shutting down while working with Aperture, Photoshop and while playing Borderlands 2.  This hasn't happened at all until today.
Looking through some suggestions here I have:
Run 2 hardware tests with no negative results.  Changed the screen resolution.  Turned off Automatic Graphics switching.
However it keeps crashing - actually crashed 3 times while attempting to start it up last time.  I've reset teh resolution and graphics switching - hoping someone out there may have an idea???  And I'm not using Google Chrome.

Thanks for any help you're able to give me.

I'll give it a go Ogelthorpe.  Ran the more intense hour long hardware test last night and then left it shut down overnight.  No results again for the test, but this morning I've run it through a few minutes of borderlands 2 with no shut down.  Strange.  Am fully expecting it to start playing up again though.

  • Macbook Pro will not shut down AND other issues...

Macbook Pro will not shut down. Not using the POWER button, not using control/alt/command/esc, not using force quit, and obviously not by selecting Sleep or Shut down from the Apple menu.
Force quit will not even pop up when selected.
Top row keys do not work either, have gone into settings and switched them to F keys and back again, no luck.
iPhoto will not import photos and will not shut down, gives me a message stating it is importing photos (nothing is connected to computer though). Baffling.
HELP! Computer is only a month old
    Thank you everyone xx

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • MacBook Pro will not shut down properly

MacBook Pro will not shut down properly. Gray screen appears with spinning gear but will not shut down completely.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
If you have an optical drive, make sure there is no disc in it.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time something abnormal was happening. That time might be before or after the boot.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. If the problem is a system crash or shutdown failure, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down. In either case, please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning or the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • MacBook Pro will not shut down

A principal at my district has a MacBook Pro 15-inch Early 2008 (2.4/2X1GB/200-5400/256VRAM/AG) running OS 10.5.8 that will not shut down. When shut down is chosen, the computer restarts instead of shutting down. It does not matter how shut down is chosen, whether it is from pull down menu, keyboard command, click on shutdown in the login menu, etc. I have tried resetting PRAM, SMC, starting up from a known good system, and run diagnostics applications (which turn up no problems). The only way to get the machine to tunr off is hold the power button down until it shuts off.
The user complains it also gets very hot when he leaves it sitting open in sleep mode. I have not observed that particular symptom. It also tend to run down the battery faster than it should (battery check shows it to have 80+% of it's original capacity.) But Activity Monitor does not show any unusual activity.
Any suggestions what I can try next to figure this thing out?
    Thanks.

On occassion (like tonight) my MacBook Pro will not
shut down - even when I attempt to force quit. Any
    suggestions?
Happens here too, but very rarely. In my case it mostly happens late at night when OS X is supposed to run some internal maintenance jobs, maybe some of them do not allow a shutdown?
Does holding the power button down for approx. 10 seconds work? If yes, then I would not worry about it. If no, there is something seriously odd and I would report it to AppleCare.
    Cheers,
    Uwe

  • Connecting 4k monitor to Macbook Pro retina 2012 mid

I tried to connect to Macbook Pro retina 2012 mid 15 inch 2.7GHZ model. Initially I connected using HDMI to 3840x2160 at 30 hz. I casually changed the resolution to 1080 p from scaled option. Now I no more get the option of scaling to 4k. I am unsure what is the issue over it. When I log into my windows. I am able to log in with my original 4k resolution in 30 HZ. Any guidance would be really great.
    2) I read a few forums regarding 4k with 60hz external monitor connection for macbook pro retina 2012 mid. But I couldn't get a clear solution whether it is possible or not. Would be great if someone can show lights on this too.

1- does Apple ever do exchanges for newly released products?  I bought my MacBook in jan they came out with new in mar.
If you purchased the product from Apple, not a third party, you have 14 days from the date of purchase to return it for a refund or exchange.  You are well past that.
2- if and when Apple comes out with a 4k or 5k thunderbolt display, will it be backwards compatible with my MacBook sich that I can't get the resolutions and 60mhz?
I do not have an answer to that and the Terms of Use for these forums discourages from speculating what Apple may or may not do in the future.  Having said that, from a practical business standpoint, backwards compatibility would be a sensible approach.  It has been done so in many areas in the past.
    Ciao.
