Macbook Pro Retina 2013 freezing

My new rMBP unexpectedly froze twice today. Both times I was not doing anything out of the ordinary, though the computer had been in use and there were multiple tabs and a few windows open. The first time, the little beachball cursor appeared, then froze. I manually restarted and it was fine. Then a few hours later, the cursor froze and so did the keyboard (as far as I could tell). I tried to put it to sleep first, but that didn't work because the mouse was still frozen, so I manually restarted again (with more difficulty this time).
I know there was a freezing issue when these first came out, but I installed the update to correct that problem and it hadn't happened again until today.
Any thoughts on what's going on or what I should do?

Ran into the same thing starting a couple days ago. It's happened 3 times total since then. Once when I was opening a new tab in Chrome, then two times while playing Portal 2. The computer hard-freezes (no sound, movement, loading). Capslock indicator is unresponsive. The only thing that works is to hold down the power button to turn off.
I'm not sure if it's related, but I've also started getting green and purple artifacts when watching full screen video through iTunes. It's possible something is busted with the video card and that is causing both the freezing and the artifacts.

If you are seeing a Red LED, you may have a faulty MagSafe Adapter.
I remember reading that the orange light is produced by a combination of a Red and Green LED. If that's the case, It seems that the adapter isn't lighting the green LED properly at that time.
I would suggest you seek service with your nearest Genius Bar (Apple Retail Store) or Apple Authorised Service Provider as they have access to diagnostics which may assist in isolating any hardware issues you may be experiencing.

MacBook Pro retina 2013 do not start and no light on the magsafe

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 2013 13' core i5 2.5 8gb ram
My mac was open, connect to the sector with full power. I left it the time to lunch and when i came back maybe 2 hours after my mac was off, and no light on the magsafe.
Impossible to start it.
I tried the key sequence, nothing worked.
I used the magsafe of a friend who have the same model, i had i green light for 10s before it turn slowly off. and nothing worked too.
One of my neighbor on the same building, had the same problem at the same time, computer open (not a mac) and it turn off impossible to start it, he had to disconnect/reconnect the battery to solve the problem.
May it be a power surge?
Did i need to open it and disconnect the battery on the motherboard?

A Few things to try if you haven't already:
1. Try unplugging the charger from both the wall and from your MacBook Pro. Now, make sure the powerpoint the MacBook was connected to works by plugging it in any electrical appliance you have. After unplugging the test electrical appliance and verifying that everything is OK with the electrical source, wait a minute or two and just plug the charger back into your MacBook and the powerpoint.
2. A possible problem could be a MagSafe port not working correctly. Look for any kind of debris inside the port that might prevent it from connecting the power adapter correctly to your MacBook. On the adapter, take a quick look at the DC connector for any type of debris and carefully check if any of the pins are missing, are bent, or stuck down.
3. Try a quick restart. Just press CMD CTRL ALT EJECT For about 5 seconds.
4. Try CMD, CTRL and POWER for about 5 seconds.
5. If none of this works, my last suggestion is removing the battery connecters and power supplies ect and holding the power button for a few seconds and reconnecting everything.

I have moved to a new MacBook Pro Retina (2013) from my old Windows 7 PC. As an amateur photographer which is better - Photoshop Elements 12 or Lightroom 5?

Lightroom is already optimized for the retina display and PSE12 looks superb on the Macbook pro R. You are never going to get a retina display much larger than 15 inches but once tried you would never wish to go back to other monitors. It’s not just photos; all Apple apps on the MBPr including web browsing are optimized.
Large monitors can be great if you are soft proofing images for print enlargements or for editing and rendering video where the extra real estate is useful. So it comes down to need. In general, images appear sharper on smaller displays. I upload most of my photos to my own website and Google Analytics tells me that a high proportion of my visitors are increasingly viewing on iPads, tablets and smartphones. For me that makes the MBPr ideal for my photo editing. It has far superior clarity compared with the excellent 27 inch Dell Ultra Sharp monitor on my desktop machine.
The only caveat is that nobody really knows the life of flash storage. Some say four years when writing continuously to the SSD drive and less once you start moving from unused space to overwriting. For that reason I always try to write to an external hard drive or SDXC card; reserving the SSD, as far as possible for running the applications.
I think we are getting a bit off-topic as the OP already has the MBPr and only needs to decide between PSE & LR or both.

MacBook Pro Retina 2013 stuck on boot every time after iPhone 5S is connected to it.

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 2013 and I've noticed that every single time I connect the iPhone 5S to it at the next boot the Mac hangs.
Booting in Safe Mode will eventually work (after about 20 minutes).
I can reproduce this every single time with this combination. Any advice?

You can try resetting the PRAM and SMC, but both of your devices are new. You can just make a Genius Bar appointment and let them figure it out.

I have MacBook Pro Retina 2013 15" 2.8Ghz i7
I use istat fan is set to max about 5500rpm. Temperature in idle ( clean reinstall just with istat menus, chrome, geekbech ) is about 80C when I try run geekbench temperature is about 105-110C so is very hot.

For issues with video resolution not being consistent, I would start with resetting the NVRAM on your MacBook Pro. That will reset the resolution to its default as well as resetting other default settings like sound volume and start up volume. 13" macbook pro retina 2013 problem: blank screen when waking up from standby

I bought a 13" macbook pro retina 2013 about 3 months ago and it is for about a week or two that I encountered a problem: when I close the lid and open it after a while(or it goes to standby by not using it for some time and then I wake it up by pressing a button), sometimes it shows a blank dark screen(with mouse cursor) for about 15 seconds and then either the screen is turned off(and by pressing a key it shows the login screen) or it shows the normal login screen.

My world guarranty is over now, new motherboard costs near 1500 $ and now i don't want what to do.Maybe reballing of videochip will help me, but i'm afraid that not autorised service in my country will kill my motherboard at all. This is my first mac & i have lost many time for take the money for buyng it. I have so much frustration.

My Macbook Pro Retina will freeze on start up just about 1 out of every 3 cold boots and it's been happening for a while now. It will start up to the log in screen and after I type in my pw and log in it will freeze with a black screen. I'll close the lid and the display stays on and I have to hard reset it for it to work again. Has this been happening to anyone else or do I maybe have a faulty macbook? Any ideas?

I have exactly the same symptoms on my MacBook Pro Retina. It freezes with a black screen right after login, half the time. I have to hard reboot... sometimes the second boot gives the same result, and at the third boot it's ok.
I've installed gfxCardStatus to check if it's an issue related to the graphic card switch, but this hasn't given me any clues.
Sometimes my session opens normally (no freeze), but the system becomes really instable when I launch an app which makes use of the Nvidia graphic card. For example, Adobe Illustrator. In that case, Illustrator freezes and the system is slowly becoming unresponsive, even after a force kill af that application.
It's really annoying, I can't work on that machine... it's like the Nvidia graphic card is half dead.
I hope it's a software issue, not hardware.
If we could have an official answer from Apple, that would be great!

MacBook Pro Retina 2013 15" freezes when using safari

I have a 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 15" 2.7ghz, 16gb Ram with 512 gb SSD. Since the recent EFI update and the OSX 10.8.3 update, when I have been using Safari, my mac has become very sluggish and I get the spinning beachball whihch doesn't clear. I have only had this MacBook for 17 days. has anyone else had this problem?

Yours is not a common problem, and no fix for it will be forthcoming automatically anytime soon.
The symptoms you describe could indicate a failing Hard drive, and you should set all else aside and make certain your Backups are completely up-to-date.

Fall 2013 Macbook Pro Retina screen freezing and crashing

Hello,
lately, I have been experiencing some screen freezes on my Macbook Pro Retina 15''... The screen just freezes, including the mouse pointer and then it doesn't respond to anything. I just have to restart the machine again. This happens sometimes and not every day, but still a few times a week. I just do normal things on my mac while I get this problem.
Also, just recently almost an hour ago, my screen just turned all white and it said "Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press any key to continue or a wait a couple minutes for it to reboot." This time, I was watching a movie when it happened.
I have also verified the disk in disk utility, but no errors.
What may be causing this issue? Hardware? Software? I also have applecare, but I'm eager to find out what's the problem before I hand it to the apple store.

MacBook Pro Retina 2013 will freeze if waked from long sleep if left with open lid

Hello!
Have a strange problem.
My new MacBook Pro Retina 13 will not wake from sleep state if left with open lid for a long period of time. (8-12 hours)
Ship happens ONLY in this case and only if left with open lid.
Screen lights up, I see a user window with password invitation - but no mouse pointer is present and keyboard doesn't respond and the apple on the backside of the lid is light up even if I close the lid.
TimeCapsule backups are creted during sleep state, no other malfunctions detected during use - laptop funtions normally from any side except this problem
