MacBook Pro Retina - 3 beeps on start straight from box

While on a trip to the USA I bought a new MacBook Pro Retina. It was shipped to me in New York and I brought it back to Israel with me without turning it on.
I have just opened it up, pressed power and I get three beeps over and over. Machine is completely dead on arrival. DOA.
Not a happy camper. Will have to wait till later to phone the retailer (who I have bought a ton of stuff from). Now I'm going to discover just how nasty the local importer and Apple service provider can be on goods not bought from his store. I even declared this computer at the airport and paid VAT on it.
Moral: always check for DOA before flying around the world. I'm starting to have very bad feelings toward Apple quality. The reason for buying this machine is because my MBP 2011 failed on me but I managed to get it fixed (at my own expense of course) with a change of graphic card and re-flow of the motherboard.
Apple quality is deteriorating.
Open to any other suggestions.

  • Impossible to boot MacBook Pro Retina ! impossible to start in single user mode, Openfirmware password set, but safari works!

I have got a Macbook pro retina.
I have done 2 partitions on the SSD drive. 1 for the OS and 1 for the user (with a kind of ln -s /Home/myself /Volume/Part2/myself
I was watching a movie (with VLC) in full screen for a while and I wanted to escape. Impossible, and impossible to reboot.
When I start, I have a directory with a question mark.
I have a Open firmware passwords set (that I remember).
I cannot reset PRAM. (I can not change the RAM amount inside the commuter as this is a retina model)
I cannot start in verbose mode.
I can choose a disk to boot. I see only the OS drive and not the user partition, and no 'recovery partition'. It seems that i need to do a fsck -yff on the user partition but how ?
I can start the OS partition, and i can choose 'guess' or 'myself'. If i choose myself, I have an error message :'there is a error, the session can not start'. If I start with the guess account, I restart, and then I can browse the internet with safari (this is how I am writing this text!)
=> How can i repair the partition ? (open a terminal, boot in single user mode ...?)
    best regards.

Actually, the recovery partition was there, but was not shown as my user partition. I have seen that reseting the PRAM and changing the ram could remove the open firemware password. So i have turn the computer on until the battery was empty. Then I boot about 20 times, and unplug the power supply after few seconds at different step of the booting pricess. At last, the screen default resolution when booting changed, I undertood that i succeeded, and I was able to enter.
Then I boot in single user mode, removed the open firmware password, activated the root user,  and everything was fine now !

  • MacBook Pro retina 2013 do not start and no light on the magsafe

    Hello
    I have a MacBook Pro Retina 2013 13' core i5 2.5 8gb ram
My mac was open, connect to the sector with full power. I left it the time to lunch and when i came back maybe 2 hours after my mac was off, and no light on the magsafe.
    Impossible to start it.
I tried the key sequence, nothing worked.
I used the magsafe of a friend who have the same model, i had i green light for 10s before it turn slowly off. and nothing worked too.
One of my neighbor on the same building, had the same problem at the same time, computer open (not a mac) and it turn off impossible to start it, he had to disconnect/reconnect the battery to solve the problem.
May it be a power surge?
Did i need to open it and disconnect the battery on the motherboard?
    Thank you for your help.

A Few things to try if you haven't already:
    1. Try unplugging the charger from both the wall and from your MacBook Pro. Now, make sure the powerpoint the MacBook was connected to works by plugging it in any electrical appliance you have. After unplugging the test electrical appliance and verifying that everything is OK with the electrical source, wait a minute or two and just plug the charger back into your MacBook and the powerpoint.
    2. A possible problem could be a MagSafe port not working correctly. Look for any kind of debris inside the port that might prevent it from connecting the power adapter correctly to your MacBook. On the adapter, take a quick look at the DC connector for any type of debris and carefully check if any of the pins are missing, are bent, or stuck down.
    3. Try a quick restart. Just press CMD CTRL ALT EJECT For about 5 seconds.
    4. Try CMD, CTRL and POWER for about 5 seconds.
    5. If none of this works, my last suggestion is removing the battery connecters and power supplies ect and holding the power button for a few seconds and reconnecting everything.

  • Macbook pro retina color profile changes when switching from integrated to discrete

Late 2013 macbook pro retina color profile changes when auto switching from integrated to discrete graphics card. Problem started after updating to 10.9.3

Same here. Really annoying because I have my screen calibrated for photo editing, which makes it much warmer than the default color profile. A lot of websites cause the graphics cards to switch for a couple of seconds, which causes the profiles to switched back and forth a few times, everytime. Really annoying, and dissapointing to see, considering Apple released like a hundred .3 betas.
You can use gfxCardStatus to make it stay on one graphics card over the other... Just remember to change it back when you're using a program that actually needs the descrete card.

  • Macbook Pro Retina unable to boot windows 7 from USB

    I have an unusual problem
i cannot install windows 7 on my macbook pro retina. Thats not the weird part. This is what happens.
    - I use bootcamp.
    - I make bootable USB.
    - Download drivers.
    - Install windows 7
    - Select partition size as 50 or 60 or 70 GB
    - mac restarts, then a black screen appears, a cursor on top left appears just for a second and then dissappears and i am left with a black screen with nothing on it. (No text or cursors)
I have tried installing 32 bit, 64 bit windows 7.
Weird thing is i had encountered this problem before and did a bit of searching n found out that you cannot upgrade to 64bit from 32bit. But thats not the issue here. A fix given to that problem worked for me as well. Make a bootable usb with 32bit windows and manually remove all non-hidden files on it and replace with non-hidden files of a 64bit win7. It worked for me then. Win7 installed. But recently i got battlefield 3 and needed additional space to install so i had to remove win7 and repartition. Now no solution is working. Not even the replacing 32bit files with 64bit files.
I really wanna game!! Please help!!

    SOLVED:
    64bit still acts cocky.
But i tried that work around with another USB and it worked. Just Like that
    Cocky Mac.
Create USB with 32bit OS, replace non-hidden files with non-hidden files of 64bit OS of windows 7.

  • Macbook pro keeps changing volume and starting music from itunes on its own.

Have I got a virus, or is this some kind of poltergiest situation? SEND HELP.

This is not a virus. Sounds like there's an Apple remote being used in the vicinity of the computer, and it's picking up the signal. If you have an Apple TV, note that the Apple TV remote can also control your MacBook Pro in the manner you describe.
I had a similar situation myself... turned out to be my 2-year-old playing with my Apple remote.

  • Macbook Pro Retina is beeping in each 5sec without stop

  • MacBook pro retina display 13 not start

    my macbook frezzing on startup
when pressing power button, sound start comes up but display still dark. No reaction when press any key.
logo apple back side always light up.

    Ciao.

  • Issues with 13" Macbook Pro Retina sleeping/waking and starting up?

I am having 2 issues which are driving me insane.
         1. It will not wake after the lid is closed for more than an hour or 2 and I have to hold the power button down to turn it off and startup again. - SO ANNOYING!
         2. Occasionally it will not startup. It makes it to the apple logo screen with the spinning thing and just stays on that screen (I have left it overnight and nothing      changed), and I am forced to hold the power button down to turn it off and startup again.
Not impressed, its been like this since day 1. Its only a month old today.
Any information would be helpful considering apple care talk to me like im an idiot, e.g. "Have you tried turning it off and on again?". I work in I.T. so i've tried most things, such as SMC reset and clearing the PRAM to no avail.
    Thanks guys

I'll just assume no one can help then...

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15' (early 2013) / Creaking noise and hinge loose

    Hi,
After a couple of months of using my Macbook Pro Retina 15' (early 2013) started to creak when closing and opening. At first it wasn't loud but now, when im not using it for couple of hours and then try to open it creaks really bad. Also i've noticed that on the left side of the hinge i've got more space then on the right side. Unfortunately my guarantee is over and i live in country where we dont have Apple Stores, ony premium resellers, and their services aren't good. In the links below you can find pictures of this loose hinge. My question here is: Does anybody know what i can do, or maybe know what needs to be done. Before taking it to my "professional" service i would like to know what's wrong with my macbook, so they won't rob me

(cpu idle is not a program it's where all % not! used are shown)

  • Bizarre cursor and trackpad on MacBook Pro Retina

On my new MacBook Pro Retina the cursor has started jumping all over the place without my doing anything, and the trackpad responds erratically, if at all.  I've done all the easy stuff - this occurred suddenly.  Others?  Fixes?

For hardware related issues reset PRAM and SMC
    Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.
    Best.

  • MacBook Pro, late 2013 will not start up on battery.

Why won't my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13", late 2013) start up on battery, even though it's charged 100%?  I can start it up with the power cord, then disconnect the cord and it runs fine and the battery doesn't seem to run down too quickly.  I just downloaded OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 last night and this started today.  Any help?

    Try a SMC reset:
