Macbook Pro Retina BOOTCAMP & StarCraft 2 Issues

I am using a Macbook Pro with Retina Display 13-inch (256GB, late 2014).
1. I run StarCraft 2 on Mac OS. The fan speed gets really high whenever I do so. I do know that this is a heavy task (so I don't really thing there are any problems here), but just out of curiosity, I would like to know how your devices do when running SCII.
2. a) When I'm running Windows 8.1 on BOOTCAMP, the temperature and the fan speed gets notably high even for a very light task like typing a document on MS Word (2013) or even when it's idle.
    b) StarCraft 2 runs without problems on OS X, but whenever I try to run it on BOOTCAMP, the screen just blacks out. Since I can't do anything esle, I just force reboot with my power button. Then the next time I try to boot on Windows 8.1, it will give me a system error and ask to do a recovery (which it'll fail to when I let it do so). The error usually repeats for 3-5 times of trials before Windows will start booting and working noramlly.
Question 1 is just out of curoisity (so I'm not dying for an answer here), but the issues I'm having in question 2 seems to be a problem. Are these issues just limited to my computer, or is this just due to the poor optimization of BOOTCAMP and applies to everyone else? I would like to know.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 Compatibility issue with Bose Companion 5 USB Speakers on Mavericks

Hi, I wonder if somebody has compatibility issues of new MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013) and Bose Companion 5 USB speakers? They work fine on a left USB port on my MacBook Pro, but doesn't work at all on a right one: USB speakers are not recognised or if recognised as "Uknown Audio Device", they doesn't work any way and iTunes stops playing till I take USB cable out.
I tested them already on two identical machines - the same issue: left USB port works fine, right one - not.
While comparing, I tested this audio device also with other MacBooks:
MacBook Pro 15" 2008 (Mavericks) - both USB ports work fine
MacBook 13" 2010 (Mountain Lion) - both USB ports work fine
MacBook Pro 13" Retina early 2013 (Mavericks) - both USB ports work fine
So it is somehow related exactly to the MacBook Pro Retina 15" Retina late 2013 with Maverics. I guess some sound card and USB port communication issue. Does any body exeriences such problems as well?

    Hi,
Im having USB problems with storage devices and android phone connections
    Thanks

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15" Flash playback issues

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from my iMac to a 15" Macbook Pro Retina and although I am overall happy with the decision I am having problems with online video playback using Adobe Flash Player.
The videos jitter and stutter at intervals throughout watching and run playback performance.
I have looked into this issue heavily, putting it down to a hardware fault initially. However all of my tests have brought me back to the utilisation of flash player and my GPU.
    Tests I have run.
I have tried the flash player in Safari, Firefox and Chrome (disabling pepper and using just the flash player downloaded)
I have uninstalled flash and reinstalled
I have reset my Mac's SMC and PRAM to ensure that there are not hardware errors
I have changed the GPU swapping on my computer to not use the lighter graphics card and instead make full use of the 1GB Nvidia graphics card
My computer is running the most up to date of all aspects associated with the errors
I have changed the settings of flash player to use and not use hardware acceleration
I haven't seen any other problems on my mac with playback - which is why is leads me to believe that this problem is more aimed at flash player on my system, than the actual system itself.
Has anyone else had these problems on a similar machine? If so are there any fixes? Or am I just going to have to hang fire for bug fixes?
The spec of my computer can be found at this link - as Macbooks can't be changed its literally as spec-ed on this page!

No they do not. In fact just the opposite. Some with LG displays and ghosting have been told by Apple it is normal and all screens do it. When in fact they do not.
Buy Applecare extended warranty. Otherwise when your 1 year standard warranty runs out and you have any problems with that retina you might as well throw it away. The cost to fix that unit, should a problem of any type become apparent, will be close to buying a new unit. All the parts are either soldered to the logic, Mother, board or glued into the aluminum case parts. The few parts that aren't are the logic board itself, the WiFi/Bluetooth daughter card, the fans & heatsink system and the proprietary SSD that plugs into a socket on the logic board.
The screen is glued into the case lid and can not be changed without replacing the complete lid along with the WiFi/BT antennas, the web cam and of course the aluminum shell.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 15" : LG display issues. Some help??

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 15 "mounting an LG Display. Currently it seems to work perfectly and shows no lack of ghosting of the image. But if from there to a year I'll have problems will Apple recognize them and would provide the repair warranty?
I mean, does Apple recognize the ghosting problem with LG displays?
    Thank you for helping me!

  • Macbook Pro Retina, Photoshop CC, resizing issue

Just a basic question, got the latest Macbook Pro this summer, and everything seems to go fine. I downloaded the trial version of CC the other day, just to try it out.
However, I'm about to resize a couple of images for my blog, 900x600 is what I usually use, and well the images turn out really small in Photoshop, but I think whatever, maybe it's just the application. Then I try to open it up and it's displayed at 900x600 but it's really pixelated. So I try to upload it to the website, same issue. I also tried saving the image in twice the size, 1800x1200 - same problem though. It looks "normal" in Photoshop, but when I upload it to the blog it's really pixelated and blurry. So... any solution?
Also, I have a couple of images that I edited on my old laptop without Retina display, and they seem fine. I tried saving them and opening them up in Photoshop aswell - looks just fine. No pixels, nothing. Is there any way to have Photoshop appear and edit the images the same way it did when I wasn't using a Retina display?
    Cheers

You are not the only one. I have the same issue. I am just wondering how to save it to get normal image??

  • MacBook Pro Retina showing spinning ball issues even after Main Logic Board Replacement

    HI there!
I'm a proud owner of Macbook Pro, 15 inch, late 2013 model. It has 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 processor; 16 GB Ram, 1 TB PCIe based SSD. The software version is OS X 10.9.4. I have AppleCare.
    1. MY mac developed rainbow beach ball issues. Sometimes it'll last for ages. I took several videos of them. I spent hours chatting with online Apple advisors. They did everything they could possibly do: Repair Disk, Repair Disk Permissions, SMC reset, PRAM reset. When nothing worked, I did clean-install the Mac six or seven times. Every time other apps would randomly cause the spinning ball issues. My Mac even restarted all on a sudden because of kernel panic. So at last, I took it to an Apple Store which is a one-mile drive from London. They diagnosed it as a graphics issues and replaced the Main Logic Board and put it to standard testing which revealed no other anomalies.  After the repair, I noticed that dock icons remain present for a dew seconds when I restart or shut down the computer. So this time I took it to a London Apple Retail Store. The Genius at first diagnosed it as a display burn-in issues and sent it to be replaced with a new one. However, next day the technician who actually worked on the computer, phoned me saying that they could not reproduce any issues and did not replace the display either. I went to take my Mac back and discovered that the dock icons stuff still persist when restarting or shutting down the Mac. When I drew their attention, they told me that it was a software issue that Apple is aware of. Apple might resolve the issues in the future updates. Well, after getting back to my hotel room, I clean-installed my OS  from USB and the dock icon issues were gone. Same version of software, but different behavior.
    2. But that's not the reason I'm here. My Mac has again begun to show the rainbow beach ball one day after the repair, when I try to connect to my Airport Time Capsule through Finder in order to selectively transfer files to my Mac. This time the spinning ball would last for a very short time. But if I want, I can regularly reproduce them. I've also noticed this when installing MS Office for Mac 2011 edition. I'm sure I'll get the nasty ball as I use the Mac more and more.
    3. I've got some questions: Can it be that during the MLB replacement, some other connectors got harmed? Or the issues are not specific to graphics only? Why didn't Apple find any anomalies during testing? I'll go to Apple Retail Store again, when I get the chance to. Once there, can I ask them for a full replacement of the Mac? Shall they take my request otherwise? I really don't feel comfortable using a shouldered computer which is going to go through many parts replacements.
    4. I sincerely need your feedback. Please help me guys out there.

Applecare was no help at all. I called and did the complaint. They confirmed that it is registered to me and everything but essetially told me that they cant give me answers as to what is taking so long. They knew a repair was in progress but wanted to set me up with an appointment at an apple store? (the nearest Apple retail store is Billings which is 240 miles away, or about 4 hours). i tell them its at the repair place and they go on to tell me they can send me a box to mail it in and have it reapir by them.. They are trying to shift the blame to the AASP and his rep. But he said he has been trying with very few answers from Apple as well

  • MacBook Pro Retina with Thunderbolt Display Issues

I have issues when connecting my MacBook Pro to the Thunderbolt Display when I don't do a fresh boot of the MacBook Pro.  It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, the Thunderbolt Display usually turns on succesfully, but none of my USB devices (mouse, keyboard) respond and when I try to disconnect the Thunderbolt, the MacBook doesn't realize it's been disconnected and thus I'm just left with the background screen and have to shut it down by holding the power button for a few seconds.
With a fresh boot, everything works fine.  Are you supposed to have to shut down and restart everytime you hook up this monitor?  Has anyone had these issues?

I have the exact same issue. I hauled the TB Display into the Apple Store 3 times and finally they replaced it. Come to find out this new one has the same issue still. So It has to be rMBP related at this point. Unfortunately I don't think I have it under warranty still and the issue is hard to demonstrate. I recorded videos of it but every time I go into the store and plug it is the same as switching the speakers from internal to external and it takes 30-60 mins before it degrates to scratching sounds.
Please let me know if you ever foudn a solution. Im going to try to keep taking it in until I can get this resolved.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013 Display Issue (w/ Picture)

    Hi!
Last night while updating my macbook I noticed an strange problem. It seems like 1/3 of my screen has the retina display while the remaining screen has a weird transparent tint covering the screen. If I take a screen shot using my macbook, there is no noticeable problem. However, the picture I took earlier today using my
iPhone 5 can give you a picture of my current problem. I also had a bit of "ghosting image" even after shutting down the computer and rebooting. I took the machine to Apple today and they said since I am in my 13th month, I am out of luck. They told me that I need to get my whole screen replace ($280). I am really disappointed because I barely had this machine and took great care of it. Has anyone have this problem?

With the initial LG Retina display, folks were seeing image retention. Thereafter it seems that Apple was replacing the screen with Samsung screens, which exhibited a yellow-ish tint. There haven't been many complaints of image retention or tinting on the Late 2013 models even though the screens may be LG or Samsung. It looks as if Apple finally got it just right.
However, as I understand it, Apple is still using the older screens for replacement parts. The only thing that I can advise is to keep having the screen replaced until you get one that you can live with. The tinting in your photo is obvious and I know of no way to 'calibrate' a warm screen to get an acceptable white point.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • New Macbook Pro retina boot camp install issue - Windows 7

Trying to complete a boot camp install but can't get past creating a partition.  I am able to download the windows drivers through boot camp, it burns them to a DVD, verifies the DVD (couldn't use CD-R as it kept saying burn failure after verifying files) and then takes me to the make a partition page.  When i click install the partition, it pops up saying "can't find the installer disc" and wants me to put one in the super drive.  What gives?  I have that disc in the drive, also tried the Windows 7 disc and got the same error.  So basically I can't create a partition to install windows 7 that I have.
    Any thoughts?

The disk was from my other PC system, however it is an OEM upgrade disc.  Maybe that is the problem but if that is the case why did it work when I installed it through VMware and it worked fine?  The disc can be used as a self full install of windows 7.  I have also it on another PC with no issues.  Trying to convert to Mac finally but this is causing a hiccup.
The next question then is do I really need to go the boot camp way?  I only need it to run quickbooks (need windows version for reasons) and a couple of other programs but thought it may run better as a boot camp install rather than VM plus I couldn't figure out how to reduce the size of the partition that VM installs, it takes too much space from me for no reason (60Gb).
    Thanks for any input.

  • Bootcamp 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 15" Scaling Issues

    Hello!
I just installed Bootcamp on my 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 15", and some windows and applications are very small. YouTube's Control Panel is really small. Running OBS, the text and windows are scrunched and small. Running The Old Republic, the window is super small.
Any Idea how to fix this?
I've played around with the scaling features and resolution, and nothing seems to work.
    Thanks!

Before trying to go back to Mavericks, try performing an SMC and NVRAM/PRAM reset. These two components control several functions of your MacBook Pro and by resetting them to their default values it may clear up the issue that you're seeing.
    To reset the SMC:
Turn off your computer and ensure the MagSafe adapter is plugged in.
Hold down Shift-Control-Option on the left side of your keyboard, and then hold down the Power button at the same time.
Wait about 5 seconds, and then release the keys. You may see the light on the power adapter change colour momentarily.
Don't turn the computer on just yet, we'll do that in the next step.
    To reset the NVRAM/PRAM:
Press the Power button and then immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R on your keyboard at the same time.
Continue holding these keys until your MacBook Pro restarts and you hear the start up chime a second time.
Release the keys and continue booting into OS X.
If this doesn't work, try booting into Safe Mode. This will help you determine whether a software issue is causing your problem. To boot your Mac into Safe Mode, restart the computer and hold down the Shift key until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. It may take a little while longer to boot up as OS X will verify the state of your disk and clear out certain caches and temporary files. Once booted into Safe Mode, try restarting and see if the issue persists.

  • NVIDIA issue on MacBook Pro retina 15 (bootcamp)

    hello guys! merry christmas everybody
i have such problem: i bought MacBook Pro retina 15, when i came home i installed windows 7 thru bootcamp, after that i decided to check how many points of perfomance do i have, (in windows you can see that in computer - system properties) and i was 7.2
my games worked amazing on highest level of perfomance, i didn't see such performance anywhere.
10 days later i decided to play, and when the game started it was so bad, everythings hanged very much!! i decided to see what happend to my system and i saw this
and i can't do anything! i returned my mac to the store where i have bought it and they gave me a new one, but after 10 days the same thing happend to a new one. i don't think that it brokes maybe it's some problem which can be solved? maybe i can change something in stting or via terminal? as i think something wrong with nvidia card, seems like mac doesn't change video cards from intel to nvidia when a hard programm is started
    help me please!!

The Retina models are full of flaws. You have found one of them. For some reason the discrete graphic card is being shut off in Windows and you are now using the built in Intel HD Graphics 4000. Why I have no idea.

  • Macbook pro Retina 15" reboot issues

    Hi all
I am a newcomer to the community.
Right I've had the my brand new macbook pro retina 15' since the begining of september 2014 which came with Mavericks. All seems fine back then
I did the terrible thing and upgraded to the yosmite when it came out and I've starting to have issues , with the wifi dropage etc etc
My most recently issue which has come to light is that , after I've RESTORED Yosemite many times (yesterday was the last time) when ever i use the computer and then reboot after few minutes to some time the computer takes super long and hangs at rebooting???????
I get a that "progress spinning chopped up circle thing" staright after i reboot and sometimes it just hangs there with the Fans going full blast till i need to hold the power button down! like what the ****
does anyone have this issue? or know how to resolve this? or do i need to bring it back to apple?
My macbook is top spec 15 inch Mid 2014 one with only the minus of the 1tb hard drive upgrade , however i feel its should not be having these problem.
I must admit since i have the macbook pro , I've used Parallels a lot , bootcamp and FileVault encrypting (which is now turned off) testing things out. i thought as this is a top spec it should handle this no problems as i got this for a development machine. Ever since Ive got Yosemite its like its slowed down and become sluggish.
When I had maverick i did not experience a ton of problems like Yosemite, it booted up in 8 secs and shutdown immediately  althought i did not test the file vault encrypting under mavericks.
Also sometimes when my Fans will be on full blast when i am not doing anything intensive, like when i browse with chrome or finished with parallel.
I be grateful if anyone can help me solve this since its now not a issue of restoring which I've done many times. I dunno if I've pushed the SSD to to much or something......
Is there a way to revert had to mavericks? without a usb or cd
    Thanks
    Zyco

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15, Stop bluetooth device during file I/O on Bootcamp Windows7

    Hi.
My Macbook pro Retina 15, Stop magic mouse & apple bluetooth keyboard during some file copy local folder or usb storege or nas on bootcamp windows7 pro 64bit.
I called apple korea. but they don't have answers. also It base on bootcamp windows, they can't support me
It only occure on my macbook pro retina on bootcamp. only bluetooth devices not own keyboard or touchpad.
    My iMac(2009late) does not problem.
Yesterday I clean setup bootcamp again, It still problem.
I just guess some bootcamp driver problem at ssd or bluethooth. Mac OS also OK.
First time I got new ratina, no problem. nothing to chaged. just update collectly.
Anybody help or same problem here?
    Thanks

I should point out, this happens with/without peripherals attached.. ILOK dongle was disconnected at the time of crash. I will however check for updates..
I have found somthing interesting tho - as it's out of warranty I downloaded a fan controller and forced the fans to full speed... The MacBook played video for hours, no problems. I believe this is a overheating issue because they fans just do to turn spin fast enough without being forced... Or it could be dust?
I'm going to have Genius Bar clean it out if the will?.,.

  • Bootcamp 5.1.5621 Problems w/ Macbook Pro Retina 15

    Hi there,
I downloaded the latest bootcamp (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1720) from Apple.com and proceeded to install windows 8.1 on my Macbook Pro Retina. I used the cd and the first time I tried to install it; i had difficulties getting the program to recognize the properly formated partition. So I restarted the process and everything went fine. Once I got into windows though - my wireless card wasn't working, my track pad won't "right click" and the headphone port is lit up red. I looked at the documentation for that version of bootcamp and it says it resolves those issues.
ANy idea on what the problem might be? In looking at the device manager in windows, there are a handful of things that did not install with drivers and there is no mention of a wireless card either.

I tried running the setup file on the thumb drive but i get the error that "this version of bootcamp is not intended for this computer model" Is that what you mean?

  • Macbook Pro Retina mid 2012 low fps in bootcamp

    Hello,
My English is not so good, so sorry if it's not correct, but I hope anyone could help me.
I have a Macbook Pro Retina mid 2012, 2,3 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB ram, 250 GB SSD.
My problem is when I go to bootcamp for gaming I get realy low fps. The most games start at 30 fps, but then they drop immediately to 8/9 fps and a second later back to 30 fps.
It's like a car, when you drive to hard you have to slow down, but then you drive to slow so you need to go faster. He speed up and a second or 2 later he kicks on the brakes and a moment later he speed up again and kicks again on the brakes.
Even with al the game setting on realy low and the lowest resolution. And that al the time in every game. My bootcamp is Windows 8 but in Windows 7 did I have the same problem. I did already a SMC reset and Pram reset and 5 clean installs. But nothing works. I installed al the updates in OS X en in Windows. There al alrealy some forums about this problem, but by them was a SMC reset enough. Maybe something is wrong with my Nvidia grapihc card. The problems starts everytime when the Nvidia card need to do this work.
it's quite an annoying problem, it's not a cheap laptop, but my old laptop ( 2 years old ) are the gaming performs better compared to this one. I think the problems start after this SMC update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1559?viewlocale=en_US but I'm not quite sure.
Are there more people with this problem, please let me know. And maybe how you solve it.
I hope realy if any one could help me.
If you know a anser, please give it in a comment
