MacBook Pro Retina Display Issue (snowy screen)

I have noticed when my mid 2012 MBP Retina comes out of sleep, it sometimes goes to a snowy (like TV static) screen for like 1/2 a second before the login screen shows up. So far I've only noticed it with the Intel 4000 card, and not the nVidia GeForce 650M, but I have not done enough testing to be certain. I started noticing this issue in beta 5 or 6 of Yosemite, and it continues to be a problem after the final release.

Okay I ran the MacBook exclusively on the nVidia video for 2 days and did not notice the issue once. Today I switched back to the Intel card and it did it first time it came out of sleep. Now I am wondering if it's hardware or driver issue. That is the only video issue I notice.

  • 2012 macbook pro retina display artifacts on screen when using onboard video

2012 Macbook Pro Retina Display artifacts on screen when using onboard video.
About a month ago I've noticed these strange artifacts (blocky pixelated looking) running vertically down the screen. It first started when using Safari. Then it started to happen all the time. I turned off the auto switch video in preferences, which I'm assuming forces the computer to use the separate video card and the artifacts go away.
On top of that issue I also have had the ghosting issue.
    Anyone else have this problem?

artifacts onscreen could mean a faulty gpu. You said by forcing it on inbuilt gpu you do not find this issue highlights that. Do take it in to apple for service and also tell them of your ghosting issue.
There are a few retina owners who have faulty gpus.

  • New Macbook Pro Retina Display Issue

    Hi,
I just purchased a new Macbook Pro, 15" Retina Display, 16Gb Ram, 2.3Ghz and finally got my hands on it last week after more than 5 weeks of waiting.
I have a issue for which I wasnt able to find anything on either Google, or this or any other forum.
At one point, after succsessfully installing windows 7 through Bootcamp, I got a set of 4 differently colored vertical stripes going along my MBP screen, starting with a very dark blue stripe on the far right, purple slightly thicker, then a copy of the first blue stripe and at last the thickest stripe which is sort of a very transparent black overlay (around 10% black overlay).
I can think of nothing, deleted windows, it's partition & all that (not that I would've made a difference but I'm kinda desperate). I am including a screenshot (in which everything looks normal even though the stripes are there) and a photo I just took with my iPhone.
The 4 stripes now turned into 2 (at least visibly). the transparent one and the 3 colored ones joined together as black.
Anyone ever got a similar problem?

  • MacBook Pro Retina Display - Keyboard Marking Screen

    Hello,
The keyboard on my new MacBook Pro with Retina Display is leaving marks on the screen.  They wash off with a damp soft cloth.  Any suggestions to stop the problem.
    Thanks
    Joe

In my opinion this is a defect in your MacBook Pro.  The tolerances are extremely tight.  The keys should not come into contact with your screen whatsoever.   I would call Apple tech support to see if it warrants a replacement if you want.  I even had a retina MacBook Pro for a couple weeks (before I returned it because of image retention issue in LG display) and there was never any key marks on the screen.  If you have a Samsung display though I would be hesitant asking for a replacement.

  • Macbook pro Retina Display issue

Hi, I have got my Retina few weeks ago and now I started to notice some horizontal line across the whole screen. These lines are very thin and they are evenly spaced out. They are like black-ish and they stretch across the whole screen from up to bottom. It happen even on the loading screen. I have called the apple service but they are not being helpful at all. These lines are getting very annoying and they are very noticable especially when I open up Words or Pages (or anything that has a white or bright background). I think it is a malfunction but I'm not so sure. I will bring this to an Apple store to get some more help with it but I just want to ask you guys first.
Also, I have run many tests including switching to Windows 7 (via Bootcamp), restarting (multiple times), enter safe mode, and comparing with another retina (with same back ground), update software (I'm currently using Mountain Lion), switch to the GPU manually.
Comment if you have any suggestion or ideas. Cheers guys.

You need to take it in to Apple and get it fixed or get a replacement system. Yours is broken and there is nothing "YOU" can do to fix it.

You can try using Screen Sharing in the Sharing preferences. Or try a third-party utility such as ScreenRecycler.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Display, a rough spot on the screen.!!!

I bought my Macbook Pro (Retina Display) from a Authorised Reseller in Malidves. Its been 3 weeks since i've bought it. Few days back i noticed a white spot on the screen. I tried to wipe the spot off with the cleaning cloth. to my surprise, the spot didn't fade. The spot was rough to touch. Any ideas what it might be???

Take it back to the reseller.  Your warranty should cover that problem.
    Ciao.

  • Black screen on MacBook Pro Retina Display after installing Moutain Lion. Need Help!

My macbook pro (retina) screen went black after I installed Mountain Lion.
I got a HDMI cable to another monitor and the image worked nicely there.
But i cant get it back on my MacBook Pro! I tried taking out the HDMI cable, restarting, searching on settings configs..
    What should I do?
Are there any drivers i should install to get image back on my MacBook Pro Retina Display?
Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks in advance for all the help.

That helped me finding other people with similar problems.
But there is a major difference!
-They have a black screen after they login.
-My screen is black NOW! And I'm only using my BRAND NEW rmbp with the HDMI cable to my TV!
This isnt good at all and I would like to solve it asap..
I tried reinstalling Mountain Lion, taking out the hdmi cable and rebooting many times.
    Until now, nothing!
Is my screen broken or maybe my video card has some problems?
I hope not! I just traveled from the US to Brazil and I dont want to search for an Apple Store here.
Any tips or ideas are welcome, thank you.

  • Screen on 15" Macbook Pro Retina Display.

I bough my 15" Macbook Pro Retina Display in August 2012. I recently noticed that when I open the macbook,  I can see the screen shaking everytime I move the macbook pro on the table. I can feel it loose and when I touch it I test if it is loose I can see like 1/2mm movement back and forth when it is open.
I don't know if it is just me and my OCD sense senses for this macbook pro.
I just wanted to make sure.
Does it get loos when opening after you have used it for more than half a year?
    Appreciate your oppinions!

Your appointment at the genius Bar for an evaluation is free, in warranty or out.
They can explain why it wiggles, tell you whether that is normal or not, give advice about what you can do to reduce its annoyance, and fix it if it is not normal. That is what they are trained to do, all day every day.
There is no expectation that every time you visit they will find a way to make money off you, like a car dealership.
The Genius Bar service exists because Apple wants you to be a happy customer, if possible. If you are willing to make an appointement and come to them (spending your time and energy to do so) they will work with you for nothing in an attempt to solve your problems, whatever they may be.

  • Flash movie in Safari in Macbook Pro Retina Display zooming issue

    Hello,
On Macbook Pro Retina Display in Safari browser, zooming any flash application in browser does not work properly.
I have made a YouTube video showing the problem in action:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi1d1x8bpnA
When I zoom in and out using two fingers pinch zooming does not go as expected - it is zooming into bits outside of the zoom area while the zooming is in the process.
    Please fix the issue.
    Thanks.
    Andrey
    P.S:
I have also created an Adobe BugBase bug report here:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3323043

    Hi Steffen....!!
The phenomenon which you just described is absolutely not common in the late 2013 retina macbook. Even I have the same model but I have never noticed such sounds neither during normal operations nor after tilting it.
I am afraid, but it seems to be a hardware issue. Might be because the fan assembly has become loose due to which its touching the other parts.
There is also a possibility  that some dirt or small piece of something might have gone inside the macbook through the air vents which may be interfering with the fan mechanism. I think so you can try to open the back cover of the macbook and see if something is interfering with the fans if your macbook is out of warranty. If its covered with Apple care, I suggest take it to Apple store and let them diagnose the issue.
    Hope this helps......

If your MBP is under warranty, bring it to an Apple store and have the technicians fix it.  If not, try the steps in this support article:

My Macbook Pro Retina display heats up and makes a certain sea wave like noise. what could the issue be?

You should have a backup in the first place. If you don't, buy an external drive (they're inexpensive these days) and make a Time Machine or a clone backup (using Carbon Copy Cloner).
Then take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and let them diagnose the computer. See if they can isolate what may possibly be making the 'clicking' sound.

  • Macbook pro retina display broken screen?

My one week old Macbook pro retina display 13 inch slipped from the bed earlier and I'm not sure what happened but I think the screen broke from the inside? -look at the pictures attached-
I bought it from Oman, in the middle east. And I'm moving to Rochester, New York in two weeks so I've decided to fix it there.
Would this be covered under warranty or will I have to pay? And how much would it cost to get this fixed?

Accidental damage is not covered. Maybe your home owner / renters insurance would cover it?
You can speculate more about cost here:
