Macbook Pro retina from 100% to 0% battery in standby mode
How is it possible that when I close the screen of my Macbook pro retina at a 100% battery, that the next morning when I open it the battery is at 0%? I can't remember changing any settings that has someting to do with the standby mode or battery life.
Hope somebody knows the answer here. Drives me mad:)
Thanks for the reply and help. This is what I got.

What's the price for a MacBook Pro Retina Display Top Case with battery in the US?

My brand new MacBook Pro retina display not charging the battery any more after 3 weeks...no green or red Led. Any one now about this problem? Thanks
Either the power brick is damaged, or the charging circuit is on the blink, or both. Either way, a trip to the Apple Store or the Apple Authorized Service Provider is in order, as this ain't no bargain basement toy.
In the meantime, can attempt an SMC Reset to see if it helps. -
Should I "restore" a new macbook pro retina from a time machine backup of old mackbook pro?
I'm considering buying a new Macbook Pro Retina. 15".
Now I'm using a 2007 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo MBP 15" running Lion. It works fine most of the time. Occasionally an application will freeze and I need to force quit.
It seems like the most convenient option would be to restore the new machine from the last Time Machine backup of the old. The benefit is that I'd feel confident that all of my stuff is on the new machine. The downside is that maybe glitches that had developed in the current system over the ~5 years would be transferred over to the new machine.
Or I could make a fresh start with the new machine and invest the time needed to transfer over the iPhoto, iTunes libraries and Documents folder and reinstall all the third party applications. I have an external optical drive to use the installation disks where necessary. The benefit would seem to be that any glitches that had developed in the old system might be avoided. The downside is that this would take a very long time.
What's the recommened method of migrating from an old machine to a new one?Instead of a restore from Time Machine, I would suggest that you use Setup Assitant that comes up the first time you start the new Mac.
Connect the TM drive to the new Mac before you power it up
Then when the new Mac asks if you wish to recover from an older Mac say yes
Then select from Time Machine
This will keep everything in the system for the new hardware and bring over everything else.

Macbook pro retina heating 100ºC
I have Macbook Pro Retina core i7.. Macbook pro retina 10.1
Under normal use for example youtube, temperature of core reaches upto 98ºC and even upto 103ºC.. upper part of keyboard and under LCD along hinges, it becomes really uncomfortable and untouchable.
I am sure it is normal but what is suggestion?madeel7077 wrote:
I am using normal youtube watching videos.. no other application running.. using google chrome as browser
Videos are know to tax the CPU/GPU resources. Also Chrome has a reputation of incompatibility with OSX.
Delete Chrome and test if watching the same video creates a drop in temperature.
Also what temperatures are you experiencing when you are NOT watching videos and using Chrome? For example when communicating on this forum?

Has Apple pulled the SMC update for the Macbook Pro Retina from the App Store
Does anyone know if Apple pulled the SMC update for the Macbook Pro Retina? I can no longer see it as an update in the app store. I am refering to the update that enables power nap on the Macbook Pro Retina.
It showed up in my ML App Store.
What is your SMC version?
Mine is
SMC Version (system): 2.3f28
and I don't have the update installed.

I have got a Macbook pro retina.
I have done 2 partitions on the SSD drive. 1 for the OS and 1 for the user (with a kind of ln -s /Home/myself /Volume/Part2/myself
I was watching a movie (with VLC) in full screen for a while and I wanted to escape. Impossible, and impossible to reboot.
When I start, I have a directory with a question mark.
I have a Open firmware passwords set (that I remember).
I cannot reset PRAM. (I can not change the RAM amount inside the commuter as this is a retina model)
I cannot start in verbose mode.
I can choose a disk to boot. I see only the OS drive and not the user partition, and no 'recovery partition'. It seems that i need to do a fsck -yff on the user partition but how ?
I can start the OS partition, and i can choose 'guess' or 'myself'. If i choose myself, I have an error message :'there is a error, the session can not start'. If I start with the guess account, I restart, and then I can browse the internet with safari (this is how I am writing this text!)
=> How can i repair the partition ? (open a terminal, boot in single user mode ...?)
best regards.Actually, the recovery partition was there, but was not shown as my user partition. I have seen that reseting the PRAM and changing the ram could remove the open firemware password. So i have turn the computer on until the battery was empty. Then I boot about 20 times, and unplug the power supply after few seconds at different step of the booting pricess. At last, the screen default resolution when booting changed, I undertood that i succeeded, and I was able to enter.
Then I boot in single user mode, removed the open firmware password, activated the root user, and everything was fine now ! -
Ordered 15" Macbook Pro Retina from AAFES/backordered from vendor
Just wanted to kow if anyone has had this or similar issue ordering from the AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service) online store. Follows is my situation and the frustration I am currently experiencing. If anyone can give my some feedback or insight, I would appreciate it because I am getting nowhere with AAFES and I am at my wit's end. Who exactly is the "vendor" for AAFES and why would a Macbook Pro be on backorder for over a month?
I ordered the 15" MBP w/Retina display, Intel Core i7, 2.6GHz, 512GB on 26 October and was given an estimated ship date of 2 November. I also ordered an external drive and Apple Care. The first issue was that the external drive I ordered was no longer available from Apple and I never received any word from AAFES until I contacted them when the "estimated" ship date had come and gone. Then, after extensive email traffic to and from service reps with AAFES, I finally was informed that the MBP was backordered until 26 November. Long story short, after the "estimated" ship date has changed three times, I am now being told that the MBP is backordered until 3 December. I am a deployed US Soldier in Afghanistan and in addition to the inconvenience of not having a working computer to commuicate back home and the fact that the shipment of anything with lithium batteries has been banned, I have had to do business with AAFES knowing that they are notorious for horrendous customer service, but they are the only company that can get me a computer that is close to what I want here to an APO address. To date, AAFES has had my 2700+ dollars for over a month and I can get no clear answer to when I will receive my MBP or if the backorder date will continue to move further into December. Does ANYONE know who their "vendor" is and a way to know why this item is backordered?Hey there Ian.S,
It sounds like you would like to know now to transfer your data from one MacBook to another. You can indeed use a Time Machine backup to transfer the data, and there are a couple of other options as well when using the Migration Assistant. This article will help you determine the best option for you, and walk you through the process:
OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I'm using a macbook pro 15 inch mid 2011 running on mountain lion.
I have a complete backup of my files on time machine. If I get a macbook retina, whats the best way ti migrate?
Can I use my time machine to restore to the new retina mac?
ThanksI'd just use the Time Machine restore function when setting up your new machine. If you don't have the TB>FW adapter, how do you plan to connect to your external drive with your TM backup? You may have to resort to Migration Assistant - but it would be helpful if you had the TB>Ethernet adapter so that you could hardwire both machines to your router - going wireless is going to take a long, long time. If your external has a USB port, you could use that for a TM restore...

Black screen when waking macbook pro retina from sleep. Mavericks
Hi, ever since I updated to Mavericks i've been having this problem when my early 2012 rmbp wakes up from sleep and the screen is black except the time and battery info. When i start moving my mouse around the screen it's still black UNTIL I click and drag on the desktop wallpaper and whatever selection I clicked, my wallpaper will show. In order to actually use the laptop I either have to restart my computer or click and drag all around the computer screen so everything (wallpaper, app icons on dock, apple logo) will show up. Really strange. Not a big problem, but it is really annoying sometimes. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks, Ryanwell, the sad news is that although there are thousands of people with this issue, Apple is NOT going to recall the computers and fix them. This is particularly bad news for me as I am part of a team that is working with the poor in a devastated area of the Philippines and I cannot afford to get a replacment.
I don't know what I am going to do when my Macbook will not wake up anymore....
If anyone has news or suggestions on how to get help from Apple, please forward it to me

Sleep mode draining the battery (Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late 2013)
Hi everybody,
I have the following issue. I have the newest Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) with 16gigs memory. When I put in is sleep mode then it drains the battery with between 6% and 20% in 8hours. Powernap is turned off, according the logs in Console it only wakes up sometimes for hibernating (it woke up for 3times from 10). So it goes to sleep every time I close the lid, nothing is using the CPU.
Apple states it has to keep up in sleep mode without fully draining the batteries for 30days, so it should consume only 3,3% per day. We all know it can be more or less but, if you do some math you can easily figure out for example: 8% drain in every 8hours is 24% per day. So I could only keep it in sleep for four days (don't tell me, I should turn it off, that cannot be the solution for this problem).
If the macbook is turned off there is no draining issue, just in sleep mode...
By the way, there is no performance issue regarding the batteries I can use it easily from battery for 5-8hours.
Do you have the same issue like me with this model and/or what are the average rates for draining in sleep mode, could you do me some tests for me (please do not start from 100%, use it a little bit before use put in sleep)?
BalazsI've been trying to work on a fix aswell to this issue. I have had my Macbook Pro Retina for a week now and in sleep mode I was losing between 30% and 50% battery drain.
To test, I was charging fully before I slept and then I would review in the morning, or when I reached work. One occasion I had 37% remaining after around 12 hours sleep.
For me, I think I managed to find a fix, that I haven't read up on yet.
I downloaded Battery Health app through the App store, so I could check what was happening under the lid and also Memory Clean (both free). Before I put my mac to sleep I cleaned the memory, on starting the app it was 9GB remaining, I cleaned the memory three times and reached 13.36GB free.
I then put the mac to sleep and I have woken it up 12 hours later and I still have 100% battery remaining (95.5% through the "Battery Health" app).
Hope this helps someone out there it seems to have worked for me. -
Macbook Pro Retina freezes requiring manual reboot
Hello,
Starting a few days ago my notebook experiences severe freezes that
require manual reboot.
The system is a Macbook Pro Retina from 2013, with MacOSX 10.8.5.
I use it for both work (software devel, MSOffice, Latex, Skype) and
leisure (music, movies, browsing).
Apple software updates and most add-on software are up-to-date (with
the notable exception of MSOffice).
Starting a few days ago, my computer started freezing. By freeze I mean
that the user interface completely blocks. I can still move the mouse
pointer (smoothly), but clicking has no effects. The only way I found to exit
such freezes is through a shut down using the button.
Freezes seem to be associated with video. They always happen when I
try to use both Skype and a browser. They also happen sometimes when
watching video on video streaming sites different from YouTube.
Funny enough, when Skype freezes, the user interface and the video
blocks, but the sound still works in both directions.
It does not look like a hardware problem.
At first the symptoms reminded me of viruses (I do have a certain age,
so I remember) but now I'm less sure. It could be a software
incompatibility (I seem to remember that I have accepted an Apple software
update just a few days ago).
I would appreciate any help in understanding the problem and in solving
it.
Yours,
DumitruHello Link,
Thanks for your help. Here is the information you asked me to find.
Some additional information:
- Of the 4 reboots I can find in the log (I had more, they must have been overwritten),
3 show the same pattern as the one I pasted here. It ends with problems in
OpenGL.
- Both crashed I have on record are on VDCAssistant.
- I don't find shutdownstalls.
Regards,
Dumitru

I have a Macbook Pro Retina from 2012 and I only got the 250GB hard drive. I'm getting ready to purchase a Panosonic HC-X920 to use with Final Cut Pro X already installed on my laptop. Since I know the file sizes are going to be so big, can anyone suggest an affordable external drive fast enough to keep up with editing the video? I'm not a pro and use it for family and personal projects.
I prefer some thunderbolt options since I haven't had a chance to use the inputs since I got my macbook pro. I just don't know what is necessarily too little or too big and too cheap and too expensive for my needs. Thank you.OWC is a Mac specialist and a very trustworthy vendor. I have dealt with them and their technical stall on many occasions. Hence you may look at what they offer and be assured that they will stand behind what they sell:

I suspect that for your needs, a 1 TB drive is going to be the minimum.

Reinstalling FCP in new Macbook Pro Retina from time machine backup. Have all serial numbers back to FCP1 but I am warned I have an invalid serial number. How can that be! I need to install and use this weekend.
Thank you in advance for the help. How, exactly are you doing this?
When I restored my new computer from the time machine, the software was transfer to the new machine, in the past when double clicking the icon it would come up and ask for the serial numbers. This time was the same with the exception of:
I did not enter an invalid serial number, I tried all the numbers I have. But none of them worked.
I will try to install from discs.
Thanks for your help. -
Hi to all, i'm writing because probably there's a bug on the latest osx 10.8.2 so, could you check that what happens to me is equal to you too?
I've a Macbook Pro Retina from about 2 weeks and in the last 3 days i've seen 2 freeze of the system, i couldn't make anything, only force power off with the power button. After some tests i've noted and isolated the issue, so this is what happens:
- remove the thunderbolt to firewire adapter (if attached)
- wait until mac goes to sleep
- go out of sleep
- attach the adapter and...
- system frozen
how i've told the only way to restore is force the mac to power off.
I'll wait your answer and solutions (if there are)
Thank you
This is the consolle where you can see the issue:
and this is when all works fine:I'm having this exact behaviour on my 13" Retina MacBook Pro running 10.8.2 when inserting a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter. System freezes hard, have to hold down power button to reset.
