MacBook Pro Retina "Gets Hot when viewing RAW images"

MacBook Pro Retina Gets really Hot when viewing RAW images - somebody has this issue? Solutions?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
First, download Temperature Monitor and tell us the temperatures of the MacBook > http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
The MacBook Pro with Retina display is made of aluminum, so it's normal that it gets hot. However, if the temperature inside is very high, fans will turn on automatically. If this doesn't happen, it may have a hardware problem

  • Macbook pro retina gets extremely hot!

    Hey guys,
I have a Macbook Pro Retina with all the settings on max (see below). I like to play games like Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft howvere when I open these up my macbook starts going crazy! The fans all turn on and the CPU get extremely hot! I mean like 92°C hot! I opened up activity monitor and found out that when running World of Warcraft it used 140-160% of the CPU (which of course in impossible!!).
Thanks in advance for any advise!

Please comment with any further questions and I will try to get you any information!

    A few things:
    1. All macbook pros get hot (retina and non-retina).  Folks here will tell you that the system will slow down (or in extreme cases shutdown) to protect the hardware.  I find this concerning but it is what it is...
    2. Games can use multiple cores which is why you are seeing > 100%
    3. 92 celcius is hot but within the operating parameters from what I have seen
    4. Some folks use stands (anything from purchased stands to pencils) to lift the computer off of the underlying surface to allow for improved circulation.
    Hope this helps.

  • My macbook pro retina gets very hot and slow

whenever i use my macbook pro retina for an extended amount of time 1-2 hours watching videos online or playing games it gets very hot, starts lagging and gets unresponsive, i can only use it with a fan underneath basically, my old macbook pro had a similar problem, it took like 3 weeks of them checking it to find a problem which took them another couple of weeks to fix, i cannot be without my laptop for any extended period of time. fans inside seem to be working fine, but it still get incredibly hot... please help!!!

Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity

  • 17" MacBook Pro (2008) Getting hot while being used

Recently I have been noticing that my macbook pro is getting very hot when it get used, especially if it is used for video or for extended time periods. The computer gets very warm, almost hot to the touch, particularly above the keys and on the bottom.
I installed the iStat Pro widget so I could monitor the internal temps, and the CPU and GPU heatsink are approaching 175-180 degrees Fahrenheit quite often. Is this a problem? If so, what are some suggestions?

    you would probably have a better chance at advice in the macbook pro discussions;

  • MacBook Pro Retina - Running Hot

    Hello everyone,
I have had my new MacBook Pro Retina for less than a week now and I am loving it.
I already have a ton of great applications installed, but I have noticed it is running extremely hot.
I have uploaded an image of iStat in the systems current state. The picture is labeled iStat_IntelHD4000 indicating the system is running on the Intel graphics chipset at a very low load. (Only running Chrome.)
The next image attached is a called iStat_nVidia indicating the system is running on the nVidia graphics chipset at a significantly higher load. (Running VMware fusion with a light-weight install of Windows 7 x64.)
As you can see, the system's temperature has increased significantly even when just running a simple virtual machine under no load other than windows system overhead.
I am a fairly experienced IT professional, but I have not had a macintosh computer since a g4 iBook; loved that laptop :-)
Some statistics I could not show on here are from my bootcamp install. I installed Star Wars: The Old Republic yesterday evening, and that's when the red flag really went up.
I have SpeedFan installed on the Windows partition. I fired up SWTOR w/ max graphics and the game runs really smooth. However, the GPU temp hit 90 degrees Celsius before the fans sounded like the laptop was going to lift off the table and rocket into space.
I appreciate anyone else's input as it seems this is starting to become a trending discussion.
    Cheers,

    Hi Shootist007,
    Good question....
Here is a few screenshots of SpeedFan under Windows 7 x64.
Standard system boot into OS, no other apps running other than background processes and internet explorer.
Still pretty warm and Windows does not use the Intel graphics chipset. I used the standard installer from Bootcamp to install drivers, app support, etc...
You can ignore the threashold indicators in speedfan as I did not configure any of them.

  • Why is my new macbook pro retina kinda choppy when scrolling safari/etc.?

why is it that the new macbook pro retina I bought doesn't seem to be scrolling as smoothly as you would think?  Scrolling in safari seems just a bit laggy.  Is this a software issue?  It does this both with the hd400 and 650m.  Hopefully this is a software issue and not the GPU strugging to drive the massive resolution of this display.  I have the 2.6ghz/ mid level config.

    Which resolution are you on?
I notice when scaled to say 1920x1200, the whole system becomes slightly more laggy, not just Safari. But I think that's because there's also a screen smoothing process just before the images gets shown onscreen otherwise everything would be chunky and jagged.
I'm on unscaled 2880x1440 retina mode and Safari is super smooth scrolling... not sure whats going on with your computer.
Do you have any junk apps or processes running in the background by any chance?
My MBPR is the baseline model with only 8GB ram, OS X 10.8.1 and Safari 6.0 8536.25.

  • Brand new macbook pro retina - fan noise when running hola?

Hi everyone, I need some help here please!
I have a brand new macbook pro retina 13 - just bought in January this year - and have had no problems so far apart from the wifi dropping occassionally.
So I just downloaded hola unblocker for firefox but whenever I stream anything using it on netflix my fan starts whirring so loudly - it's never even made a noise before! and I can feel the base of the mac getting hotter. So I've closed hola/firefox and it stops after a minute or so. I've tried a few times again with the same problem.
I'm just using it to watch US netflix so probably not technically legal anyway.... but other friends manage it no bother - do mac's just know I'm doing something wrong? haha
    Thanks for any advice.

Try running Activity Monitor (in the Utilities folder). Click the Energy button at the top and then stream a video. Watch the Energy Impact.
I suspect what you'll see is that your rMBP is doing a lot of work while you're streaming the video, and that makes it get hot. The fan struggles to dissipate the resulting heat in order to prevent damage and makes noise in the process.
It may also have a guilty conscience.

  • Macbook Pro Retina - Weird sound when plug in adaptor

    Hi,
I have had my Macbook Pro Retina 15inch now for about a year and a half and suddenly it's making a sound whenever I plug it in. It's like the sound of a hard drive, but it's in sync with when I scroll up and down. There's no sound whenever it's unplugged, it's very strange. Any ideas, could it be a faulty adaptor?
    Thanks
    Lewis

It is better to take the computer to the Apple store and have it checked out.
If this does not help, contact Apple.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Noisy Fans When using adobe premere cs6

i bought new macbook pro retina 15'' 2013 newest one , but i heard a fan noise for few minute when adobe premere cs6 run . Is that normal ?
how can i solve this problem...

It probably is.  CPU/GPU intensive applications will place stress on same and cause heat.  You MBP fans are dissipating that heat.
You might install iStat pro (download from the Internet) and compare that with the Activity Monitor display to the the correlation of application usage and temperatures/fan speeds.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro temp getting hot

    hi,
i am all new to apple Macbook pro and also Mac os, i recently noted that my macbook is get's very hot when i play games on it and usually its temperature is about normal, but as i play game (like Assassin Creed 2, GTA VI or other ) it just get so hot that i cant even touch it, specially the back of macBook and the upper left conner of over the keyboard is too hot - touching it for a while may perhaps burn the skin.......please some one help
Below is my MacBook Pro specs(I bought it from Japan)
      MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011)
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
      Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
      Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)
      Hard 500 GB
And as you may now that 15-inch MacBook Pro include two Graphics/Display Card
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    with auto switching tecnology
maybe, in my opinion when i play game, The garphic card is switched to AMD Radeon HD 6750M and start getting hot
    please some one help!
    thanks alot
and also it battery get low very fast

I don't have the 15" but I'm also of the opinion that the current notebooks get way too warm (sometimes I compile software (via Macports) and the thing gets HOT). In the past, I have used a laptop cooler from Microsoft:
    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/microsoft-notebook-cooling-base/Z3C-00 001
It's pretty good, in my opinion. To be honest, it does not bring down the internal temperature readings that you can get (via software like iStatMenus for example), but it did save one degree on the temperature reading "left palm area". The difference for the bottom plate is absolutely noticeable by hand.

  • Macbook Pro Retina CPU Overheating when doing simple tasks?

I've had my Macbook Pro w/ Retina since July 2012 and for about a month now (starting in November) the CPU Die - Digital has been getting EXTREMELY overheated. It has gotten up to 210 degrees F which is way past the damaging level of CPU but the real kicker is that it happens when I have a few tabs open in safari and a couple other minor programs open (Mail, Finder, App Store, Skype, iTunes). It's not like I'm running Skyrim, LoL, and Starcraft while running background tasks in Fincal Cut X and Motion V?? I mean I have 16GB of ram and only 5 or 6 of it is in use so it's not a problem with multitasking and processing power also shouldn't pose much of a threat for a few tabs in a browser and some low usage programs. I use iStat Menu's and I took a screenshot just now of it in the 180's when it was recently in the 190's. I also checked the disk utility and I can't see anything in the CPU usage that would make it work that hard.
My questions are am I doing something wrong? Is there something I'm missing? Is my laptop defective and in need of refurbishing using Apple Care? Is this happening to anyone else?
    Thank you in advance.

Turn off Skype and see if that has any affect.  Skype is is a notorious heat generator.
    Did you check Activity Monitor?
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro 2011 get hot and noise all the time and slowly ?

hi. why MacBook Pro get too hot and make a noise all the time i have Yosemite ,mac late 2011 and became very slow?

Games are very CPU/GPU intensive applications and will heat up the MBP.  That will result in the fans increasing speed in order to dissipate the heat.  This actually is an expected result and for the type of application, is 'normal'.
I you plan to play a lot of games, consider getting a cooling pad twhich will tend to mitigate the heating.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Air is getting hot when external monitor is connected - restart solves the problem

I have a two weeks old Mac Book Air 11" (128GB / 4GB / i5). Sometimes when I connect it to my external monitor, the FAN is getting loud and the MacBook becomes very warm on the surface near the "F3 button". The activity monitor says CPU is at 0-1% and there's no process that causes any CPU load (I switched to "show all processes" of course). Nevertheless something makes the Mac becoming hot. A simple restart while the external monitor is connected solves the issue completely, temperature and fan speed are instantly decreasing. Is this a issue related to the graphics driver? For me it seems the behavior is caused by the graphics processor rather than by the i5 CPU as activity monitor does not show any process causing high CPU load.
    Known issue?
    Thanks!

I was runnig into the same problem. Plugging in to the apple 23" display at work worked well, but when I plugged in my Dell 23" at home the fan started being noisy...
ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION: it seems to me that putting the air to into SLEEP MODE and back solves it as well!!
    I will confirm later on.
