Couple of months ago I bought the macbook pro with retina in UK and I am now in Qatar. My screen in suffering from ghosting- I know I'm not alone and there is a thread of 400+ page about this - and I have no idea who I should go to for repair and I can't figure out how to contact Support from here.
Any suggestion is the most welcom!
Thanks

If I let my display on the same image/screen for about 7 min, the image get stick on my screen but fade after some times. It happen regularly though. Is it normal or is it something I should worry about?
Thanks!

  • Macbook pro retina ghost image problem

I have heard about the burn-in problem on macbook pro retina display especially on LG screen. After I got my macbook retina for 3 months, the ghost image problem become really really unacceptable. After 4~5mins, the image on screen will burn in obviously for quite a long time. IT IS VERY OBVIOUS!! So I drop by apple store and find a genius, he did a persistence test on my macbook. The test is under a very low brightness, and I can not even know how he was operating. After 6 minutes, he said there is no burn-in problem. He explained that, if my macbook pass the test, it means my screen is within inspection. But I can tell if this screen is good, APPLE you should take a look at your inspection and change it RIGHT NOW. Everyone of my friend who have seen the problem on my screen says it is unacceptabe, how can it be within inspection? If anyone need a photo of that, i will provide.

  • 15' Macbook Pro Retina  Ghosting to Yellowish Screen!

    Hi Guys.
I have a Retina Macbook Pro 15' (Mid 2012) version which i bought on August 1st 2012. I have used my computer for couple months without any issue till ghosting and white spotting problems were accured. Finally, i visited Apple Store and they replaced my screen without any question. I had a LG one and they swapped it with Samsung version. In our conversation with Apple genius, i mentioned that i have read lots of artictles with replaced screens like yellowish tint and other stuff and he replied do not worry about it. So today i got my repaired computer and boom, my retina display is gone and yellowish bothering screen came! I am professional graphic designer with master dagree and colors is part of my life. I have 27' Imac and 2011 13' Macbook air also. The only reason i bought this retina display because of better colors and resolution! I paid almots 3.000$ for faulty computer and when they fixed it, it became more useless for me! I also attached the picture of screens. So what must i do right now? What are my options?
Thank you for your comments and help!

hey man, we are on the same boat.same happened to mine rite now, there are couple pixcel off on my screen and i went to replace, no question ask replaced a new screen, when i got home i found the yellow tint so i went back they see the problem replaced again still the same yellow tint. call me for pickup the at the 3rd replacement. still the same problem, they pull out the manager of the store saying this yellow tint is a normal perfect screeen. Now i got no chose left the store with the yellow tint screen. makes me not want to turn it on again.
I love apple products, I own IMAC 2xmacbooks iphones and also an Ipad. but this is very disappointed. this yellow very bothers me when i editting my pictures. I hope apple will see this problem and get it solve.

  • Ghosting (burn-in) on MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) after installing OS X Yosemite

Has anyone started noticing ghosting (burn-in) on your laptop screen after installing OS X Yosemite ?
I'm using MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012).

    Hi,
I may have noticed the same thing, (Should I be concerned about colors behind grey login screen at startup?). I called apple support and it appears that the screen background is "slightly visible" after the update. You can change your background and see if your ghosting image moves accordingly. The white bleed through in my images, happens to be from Earthdesk which displays a map as a background. You might be seeing a similar effect.

  • Macbook pro retina with ghost image problem

Can i claim my retina display that have ghost image problem?

Hi there, I had the same problem with my Macbook Pro 15`` Retina. And here is how you can find out if you have ghost image problem. There are two retina display manufacturers for Macbook Pro Retina`s LG and Samsung. And if you are luck you will have the Samsung Retina Display on your mac. Here is how you can find the manufacturer for you Macbook.
Go to your Applications folder and launch Terminal. Paste in the following and hit return:
    ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
Look at the beginning of the second line to see which manufacturer made your display. If it starts with LP then you have an LG display. Samsung displays start with LSN.
If your display shows LP you might have this problem for sure. So here is how you can test your screen.
A simple test to check your Retina MacBook Pro display for image retention also reported as "ghosting"
    http://www.mitchmalone.name/retina-test/
Run the test for 10 Min. and you will find out if you have this problem.
And if you have it, and if you are still under waranty the Apple will replace the display with Samsung for free of charge. I hope this information helps.

  • New problem with display on Macbook Pro retina (Samsung panel)

    Hello All,
I am a very new people on your forum but a few weeks ago i bought a new macbook pro retina with samsung panel.
I haven't ghosting effect on my macbook but i have a new and really bad problem.
I try to found a some information on Russians forums but nobody can help me with it.
I can see an artifacts in the form of flashing pixels on all display.
It occurs in 20-30 minutes after the start of work.
Today i try to test it on game Dirt 2 and i can see defects after 2 minutes after start. So i think it can be reason with Geforce 650 but when i back to desktop and use HD 4000 i still see a problem.
This is best seen on a black screen with high backlight.
When i try to connect TV via HDMI i can't see any problem in my TV.
So i really don't know what could be the reason.
I attached the video with issue to video hosting
    http://vimple.ru/579f880e8b7045e09f8fc5bc097c5e2b
Also i have a many software problem like Crashing safari and iTunes. It can be a few times per day.
I really disappointed with my new Macbook.
I haven't any problem with old 2009 Macbook pro with Snow Leopard but Mountain Lion is not working well.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD

  • Macbook pro 15" vs Macbook pro retina 15"

I have recently bought macbook pro retina 15" it has yet to arrive it is still in the processing stage.
I prefer the retina slightly more than the traditional version, however upon reading the image retention issues of the macbook pro retina after I have ordered it.
I am unable to decide whether or not to cancel my order to and buy a normal macbook pro 15" without the retina display.
I want to ask has the after image / ghosting issues of the retina displays been fixed yet in 2013?
This was an issue with the displays made in june 2012.
Right now its 2013 hopefully someone can give me an update on the display issues with the retina model.

Some people have IR problems, some don't. If I were you, I'd just go ahead and take delivery of the Retina model and keep in mind that you have 14-days to return, exchange or get a full refund. There are various IR tests out there but if you don't have signicant IR, I'd just keep it.
    Just my 2¢...

  • Small dent on Macbook Pro Retina display screen.

I'm looking for anyone else that has had this problem, ways to either fix it or just what to expect from the Apple Store when I go in.  If it has happened to me twice, I feel it can't be too rare.  Perhaps just to doccument it as well.
I've had my 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display for 6 months now and other than the screen, I've enjoyed it very much.
Two weeks into having the new computer I found what I thought was a dead pixel (two inches right then two inches up from center) and brought it in.  I'd read about such things online and the LG/Samsung debacle but really just wanted my new computer to stay nice and new.
When I got into the store, they told me it was really just a dent in the screen from when dust or something got trapped between the screen and keyboard when it was closed.  I thought to myself "Hey, my office is in the basement, maybe something fell down from the bare ceiling and it could have happened." Although I find myself taking very good care of the computer.
They replaced the screen for me under warranty and I instantly went out and got a case, screen cleaner that came with a fine brush to wipe they keyboard off with and a nifty microfiber cloth.  Ever since then I've been afraid to close my Macbook Pro and rarely do so.  I even asked them what I could do to prevent such things in the future.  I was specifically told there wasn't much I could do other than try to ensure it didn't close on any dust.  There was no product that would help and they recommended I didn't get a screen protector because it might damage a screen as well.  For a laptop it seemed very impractical, but what else was I really supposed to do other than use it as a desktop?
Since then I've moved and no longer work in a basement.  Two days ago I noticed the exact same thing appear in very nearly the exact same spot (I didn't document it the first time so I can't be perfectly sure but definitely the ball park of a square cm).  I live a ways from an apple store but am visiting home in a week and based off my own experience and others that I have read, they'll replace the screen.  I just wanted to esure they had the part since I'll only be in town for the weekend.  Apple care had given me a case number and the number of the store, I called to arrange a genius appointment and try to see if they had the part, or at least if they could order it now.
The first man I got on the phone initially said "I don't know why they keep having people call here, let me get a technician for you."  A few minutes on hold and I got a woman who claimed very matter of fact "That damage isn't covered, you'll have to pay for the replacement.  I just want you to know what to expect when you walk in the store."
This is the same store I had gone to before where they had replaced it without question, I just wanted to try and line everything up before making the trip and having to explain it all when I arrived.  I just wish they'd have a plan set out rather than it being up to individual employees.
What can I do to fix this screen?  I got this computer based off all the video and photo editing I do and notice it instantly.
Side note, this isn't the same machine that did it before either.  When I got my computer back from repair, they had forgotten to plug in the part that has the backlit keyboard.  Then when that was fixed, the right side USB didn't function.
The Macbook also had image "ghosting" or retention issues.   I hear that can be fixed via software though rather than being just hardware? I don't notice that as much as the little dent however. My display is LP154WT1-SJA1.

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) and just noticed this today in a similar location - from center, mine is about two inches right and one inch up.  I thought it was a dead pixel after cleaning it and then realized it was a little dent.  The location, when the notebook is closed, corresponds to the flat area between the Command key and Trackpad.
I take very good care of my MacBook and there are certainly no rocks on my keyboard when I close the lid!  The screen stands off the keyboard when closed due to the raised trim so this should not have been the cause.  I can't think of any other way this might have happened in my situation, though I guess anything is possible.
The effects of this dent are quite visible now in certain circumstances - on a dark background it looks like a little clump of stuck, lit pixels and on a light background it looks like a clump of dead pixels.  Too bad, since I bought this, my first Mac, partly for its amazing screen.

  • MacBook Pro Retina display Help!

Good day guys, i am looking into buying a Macbook pro retina 15'' but i am concerned about the ghosting and display burn in with the LG screens. How would i know before purchasing the machine if it has the Samsung screen?

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15" Flash playback issues

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from my iMac to a 15" Macbook Pro Retina and although I am overall happy with the decision I am having problems with online video playback using Adobe Flash Player.
The videos jitter and stutter at intervals throughout watching and run playback performance.
I have looked into this issue heavily, putting it down to a hardware fault initially. However all of my tests have brought me back to the utilisation of flash player and my GPU.
    Tests I have run.
I have tried the flash player in Safari, Firefox and Chrome (disabling pepper and using just the flash player downloaded)
I have uninstalled flash and reinstalled
I have reset my Mac's SMC and PRAM to ensure that there are not hardware errors
I have changed the GPU swapping on my computer to not use the lighter graphics card and instead make full use of the 1GB Nvidia graphics card
My computer is running the most up to date of all aspects associated with the errors
I have changed the settings of flash player to use and not use hardware acceleration
I haven't seen any other problems on my mac with playback - which is why is leads me to believe that this problem is more aimed at flash player on my system, than the actual system itself.
Has anyone else had these problems on a similar machine? If so are there any fixes? Or am I just going to have to hang fire for bug fixes?
The spec of my computer can be found at this link - as Macbooks can't be changed its literally as spec-ed on this page!
    http://store.apple.com/uk/configure/ME664B/A?
    Any input would be appreciated
    Tim

No they do not. In fact just the opposite. Some with LG displays and ghosting have been told by Apple it is normal and all screens do it. When in fact they do not.
Buy Applecare extended warranty. Otherwise when your 1 year standard warranty runs out and you have any problems with that retina you might as well throw it away. The cost to fix that unit, should a problem of any type become apparent, will be close to buying a new unit. All the parts are either soldered to the logic, Mother, board or glued into the aluminum case parts. The few parts that aren't are the logic board itself, the WiFi/Bluetooth daughter card, the fans & heatsink system and the proprietary SSD that plugs into a socket on the logic board.
The screen is glued into the case lid and can not be changed without replacing the complete lid along with the WiFi/BT antennas, the web cam and of course the aluminum shell.

Do you have an idea of the problem?
    Thank you in advance.

After months of repeated problems and two motherboard replacement this fall, it continues ...
Crashes are back, apparently caused by the graphics card, as soon as it is requested.
I am tired because the price of the machine as it serves me especially for my work.

  • 2012 macbook pro retina display artifacts on screen when using onboard video

2012 Macbook Pro Retina Display artifacts on screen when using onboard video.
About a month ago I've noticed these strange artifacts (blocky pixelated looking) running vertically down the screen. It first started when using Safari. Then it started to happen all the time. I turned off the auto switch video in preferences, which I'm assuming forces the computer to use the separate video card and the artifacts go away.
On top of that issue I also have had the ghosting issue.
    Anyone else have this problem?

artifacts onscreen could mean a faulty gpu. You said by forcing it on inbuilt gpu you do not find this issue highlights that. Do take it in to apple for service and also tell them of your ghosting issue.
There are a few retina owners who have faulty gpus.

  • Macbook pro retina problems. Unsolved

Hi, i recently purchased a Macbook Pro Retina 15" 8 months back. Till few months I faced no problems. But suddenly I am faciing issues like extreme lag when opening windows & closing them. Resizing windows. Lag in softwares. And also facing ghosting problem in my display all of a sudden. The service company in Mumbai called RSG said they will only be able to replace the spoilt parts, as in change the logic board but will not be able to replace the whole laptop. What am i supposed to do when my display is messed up, logic board is gone & i have paid 2 lakhs for this laptop & no one is ready to replace it !!! This is really ridiculuos. I tried multiple ways to contact apple but there is no direct number or even an email to contact them. So currently im stuck with 2 lakhs down the drain! I rather should have got a macbook pro without retina which runs smoother. Request someone from apple to look into this & help me replace this laptop at the earliest.
    Thanks,
    Yashovardhan

Not ridiculous at all. You may have some problems but the system is 8 months old and the warranty covers Replacing Defect parts not the complete system.
So have it Fixed. That seems to be the simple answer. It is under warranty and Apple or a AARC will do it at no charge to you.
Yeah well this is not Apple. This is a User to User Forum run by Apple the company. Apple the company does not come hear and read posts and even if they did they Never respond to any.
So you need to Call Apple directly.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 15" : LG display issues. Some help??

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 15 "mounting an LG Display. Currently it seems to work perfectly and shows no lack of ghosting of the image. But if from there to a year I'll have problems will Apple recognize them and would provide the repair warranty?
I mean, does Apple recognize the ghosting problem with LG displays?
    Thank you for helping me!
