Macbook pro retina heating and not turning on

So I got my new macbook retina 15 inch around 4 weeks ago and it has been working fine, next day
I got it plugged and nothing, the screen just didnt start it was all black, so I plug the charger and the indicator
just seem fine but after 1 hour this computer has a massive heat all over the keyboard and the backplate where
the battery is, I guess, so I disconnect everything but the heat starts to get even hotter so Im kinda worried the thing
is going to blow etc etc, that was around 7 pm, So i went out and let it cool a bit, came a few hours later and bam
there it is working again, just plain weird behavior of this new machine so I wonder what the heck happened?
what am I to expect again from this? anyone had this before, and is there some kind of app to monitor
the heat levels or make a complete diagnostic?
thanks in advance if you might know something useful.
Andrew.

Hello blackhemiangrove and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
"am I to expect again from this? anyone had this before, and is there some kind of app to monitor
the heat levels or make a complete diagnostic?"
You shouldn't have to even worry about something like this. Document what happened and take it back to Apple immediately and make them fix it.

  • Is it possible to virtually bypass the battery on a macbook pro (retina 2014) and power the mac directly via AC power?

Is it possible to virtually bypass the battery on a macbook pro (retina 2014) and power the mac directly via AC power?
E.g. Dell allows you to plug the laptop into AC power but prevent battery charging.
Note: I do not want to physically remove the battery.
If there isn't an option on Mac OS, is there anything I can download to bypass the battery when I want?

Thanks for linking me! Wow I had no idea the clock speed would be cut so severely! What a bunch of rubbish, as if the AC won't provide enough power!
I guess the only solution to my question would be an app which virtually disconnects the battery but tricks the mac into thinking the battery is still connected. I'm just surprised Apple haven't yet started to build prisons for the government - considering how well they lock up their software and hardware!

  • My MacBook Pro (Retina) laptop does not recognize my HP printers

My MacBook Pro (Retina) laptop does not recognize my HP printers. HP only has updates but not full drivers for Mountain Lion. Some articles say the compatibility might only allow me to print, but the scan feature won't work. I am attempting to use either my HP Color Laser 2840 and my HP Photosmart 209-B printers. I tried to reinstall the printer drivers, but HP doesn't have drivers to download for Mountain Lion OS.

Macbook Pro Retina 15" won't turn on. The charger light is orange. I tried all tips that Apple provides on the official site -  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204267. Any ideas?

If you purchased it from Apple directly, they have a 14 exchange or refund policy.  Keep that in mind when you go to the store.

  • MacBook Pro retina 2013 do not start and no light on the magsafe

    Hello
    I have a MacBook Pro Retina 2013 13' core i5 2.5 8gb ram
My mac was open, connect to the sector with full power. I left it the time to lunch and when i came back maybe 2 hours after my mac was off, and no light on the magsafe.
    Impossible to start it.
I tried the key sequence, nothing worked.
I used the magsafe of a friend who have the same model, i had i green light for 10s before it turn slowly off. and nothing worked too.
One of my neighbor on the same building, had the same problem at the same time, computer open (not a mac) and it turn off impossible to start it, he had to disconnect/reconnect the battery to solve the problem.
May it be a power surge?
Did i need to open it and disconnect the battery on the motherboard?
    Thank you for your help.

A Few things to try if you haven't already:
    1. Try unplugging the charger from both the wall and from your MacBook Pro. Now, make sure the powerpoint the MacBook was connected to works by plugging it in any electrical appliance you have. After unplugging the test electrical appliance and verifying that everything is OK with the electrical source, wait a minute or two and just plug the charger back into your MacBook and the powerpoint.
    2. A possible problem could be a MagSafe port not working correctly. Look for any kind of debris inside the port that might prevent it from connecting the power adapter correctly to your MacBook. On the adapter, take a quick look at the DC connector for any type of debris and carefully check if any of the pins are missing, are bent, or stuck down.
    3. Try a quick restart. Just press CMD CTRL ALT EJECT For about 5 seconds.
    4. Try CMD, CTRL and POWER for about 5 seconds.
    5. If none of this works, my last suggestion is removing the battery connecters and power supplies ect and holding the power button for a few seconds and reconnecting everything.

  • Macbook Pro retina 13" fan not spinning

Hi, I have had my macbook pro retina 13" (late 2013 model) since november, it had a fan problem after a month, where it made a horrible whirring noise and according to istat just wasnt spinning. This was independent of tempeartures for example 0rpm at 25 degrees and still 0rpm at 55 degrees, obviously it began to heat up rapidly after even just mld usage.
Took it back to apple and they cleaned the fan and the problem cleared up, however a few months later it has started again, surely this can't just be dirt build up seeing as the fan has been cleaned already and the computer is only 4/5 months old.
I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else, if they solved it, or just whether I should take it back to apple.
    Many Thanks

There are no bits you can flip to straighten this out.
Take it back to Apple, remind them they already cleaned it and suggest maybe they should replace it this time.
Apple is unique in the way they run their repairs. They are not trying to squeeze every penny out of you the way the car dealers are. They mostly want you to be a happy customer.

  • Macbook Pro Retina heat issues?

For any of you that have the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display, are you guys feeling excessive heat along the keyboard and on the aluminum directly under the screen? Just wondering, because I am. Let me know. Thanks!

I am a big "Macbook Pro runs too hot" proponent. So I went into my Apple store installed iStat on one of their new MacBook Pro Retina Display laptops and went for it. I ran HD flash video, I ran HTML5 video players. I went into iPhoto and held down the left arrow key and let the machine run through all the pictures as fast as it would load them.
I kept checking with iStat and am truly amazed. I am not sure if it is Ivy Bridge, the vent holes on the bottom, the way graphics are handed off between the descreet and onboard GPU, but that computer never warmed up to "2011" MacBook Pro temperatures.
I was doing some naughty things to that machine, and she performed like a champ.
I did notice the heat vent under the screen hinge has been redesigned and now there is a bigger gap between the vent and the edge of the screen. Like I said also the vents around the underside of the perimeter of the case might also help out, especially since the vents are located right under where the segmented battery is located.
As far as thermal issues. I am impressed.
The new MacBook Pro 15" with retina display is a marvel of technology. and I look forward to see what the second generation of this product looks like.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Heat

    Hi.
I'm completely new to Mac and OSX but I'm fairly good with computers. Beening building PCs for years and know my way around Windows.
I'm a little concerned with my Macbook Pro Retina and its heat. I understand that its a slim computer and its going to get hot, but it doesn't seem like my fans are speeding up enough to keep the system cool. Even when I'm doing light loads on the processor (Ex. coding a website in TextMate) the system seems to be running fairly hot. Usually it runs around 70C when doing basic internet browsing and text editing. When watching YouTube it runs even hotter! (Around 100 ~ 120C)
The fans seem to max out at 2100 RPM during when it hits those peak temperatures. I opened up TF2 and it got even more hot, and the fans still only peaked at 2100 RPM.
Someone told me to download SMC Fan Control - however from what I can tell it is not completely compatible with OS X 10.8. It does let me set the fan speed however the system doesn't take over when the system is getting hot - at least thats all I can tell; chance are I'm completely wrong.
Anyways, is there something on the software side of things that I can do to increase the cooling of my system? I will probably be buying a cooling pad at some point but if I could increase the cooling more via software that would be great!

    Hi there,
What you have stated in regards to the temperatues and fan speeds is a little worrying in my honest opinion, let me explain why.
I have a MacBook Pro with Retina Display, the £1799 model (8gb RAM, 256 SSD), which i use at an elevated position, i bought a griffin stand (really nice actually, i would reccomend it).
I have had it a little over a month, my first 3 weeks with it have been a complete worry.
My rMBP runs between 46C - 60C whilst i'm browsing the internet etc, if i watch a youtube clip, it gets hotter - around 70C (it can get even hotter but it depends on the resolution of the vid) - fans are runing at around 2100 RPM when machine is at 50C ish..
However, when i run games or watch a 4k resolution vid on youtube or do anything that requires the processer to go insane it shoots way up to around 90C (highest i've seen it go is 97C), this scared the **** out of me, how can something get that hot and still be safe? it's 10C away from boiling point! The fans run at around 4000 RPM at this temperature.
I must have called Apple Care about 3 times a week to ask for advice, i was looking for someone to make me confident that this was normal, they told me to take it to a genius bar.
So off i went, the genius told me that he had tried to test it (about 5 times) but was unable to succesfully test the machine as apparently, whenever a new machine is released, there is a period when all the older testing software doesn't work properly (it kept crashing).
What i did find out was that another genius that walked past overheard us, he told me he was playing StarCraft II on it for hours yesterday and it got very hot, around the same temperatures of mine, he said it was perfectly normal as the processor is Ivy Bridge which just runs hotter then normal.
    He also said the following:
The fans can go up to a maxmimum of 6000 RPM, this to me meant that i was not pushing it to it's limit as the highest i've seen my fans go is around 5000RPM at 97C.
He simply said not to worry and i quote - "If the fans are running it's nothing to worry about, if they are not - that's the time to worry".
He also said that the system had an inbuilt feature that would shut down the system if it ever got too hot for the system to handle.
The general thing i have realised from my own searching around and visiting/calling apple is that the rMBP is thinner then other laptops and therefore, it will run hotter. The entire case is meant to be a heat sink and is supposed to get hot to help dissapate the heat.
I'm now confident that mine is not faulty - it feels like a weight has been lifted (i treat my rMBP like a newborn hah)
To me, based on everything i've learnt, i would say yours needs to be checked out ASAP, the temperatures are higher then mine and your fans are not operating as they should.
I really hope this helps mate, go and see a genius and get it sorted!
    All the best!
    Nick

  • My Macbook pro retina battery is not working

    Hello everybody,
I kinda need help, maybe somebody here can give me an advice. I kinda destroyed my Macbook pro retina with coffé My father spilled the coffé on the table and the coffé went exactly inside the laptop. It didnt work but after complete and careful cleaning it works. (except the battery) Battery is not working at all, but interesting is, that I still can see the percentage of charge of the batery.
In the authorised czech service they told me that they need to replace the whole battery (with the skelet of the laptop) so it is very expensive. But I believe that there is maybe some other way? Anybody can help me?
    Thank you very much
    Jakub

I forgot... The percentage of the charge of the battery is moving now it is 9% but before it was more... 10%,11% etc...
