Macbook pro retina - how cold can it get?

Anyone know the temperature tolerances of these computers?  I had one out in the cold and it crashed.  I don't know what the temperature was but probably easily -10 or -15 C.  It took a while but it did eventually cause a kernel panic and I don't know why.
Thanks.

See at the left side of this page > http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
Macs work between 10 and 35ºC and they should be stored between -25ºC to 45ºC. However, note that these temperatures are so dangerous for your Mac. The optimum temperature is 22ºC and tempertures lower than 10ºC are dangerous

  • Macbook pro (retina) wont boot - can't get to recovery

I'm having a bizarre problem with my Macbook pro retina 15".
I was using bootcamp/booted into windows and playing Star wars the old republic when the machine suddenly froze, then the display started going into lots of squares of multiple colours.
When I try to boot in to OSX it freezes after the apple logo and the small cirle stops. If I try get to the recovery by pressing cmd + r the same thing happens. I've also tried using the internet recovery option, the same thing happens after it connects to my wifi etc.
If I press alt during bootup to get to the different drives to boot from, the icons (i.e. OSX or bootcamp) are displayed but are slightly brown and look a bit distorted. If I select bootcamp and try to boot into windows the squares/distorted screen issue starts again.
I have also tried booting from a mountain lion install usb i made - same probelm as above: freezes after apple logo.
I've also tried resetting the PRAM/NVRAM or whatever its called.
Does anyone have any ideas I can try as I can't call Apple care til Monday now?
    Thanks

Nope. Your only option is to take it to an Apple Genius Bar as your system is FUBAR. More then likely a hardware problem from over heating.

    Hi Winterwilly,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below answers your question of how to use QuickTime to record something on your MacBook Pro’s screen.

  • If i bought a macbook pro on 4 juin, can i get the upgrade of new max os lion free?

if i bought a macbook pro on 4 juin, can i get the upgrade of new max os lion free?
i buy it directly from the apple store.

Might be a discount voucher near-term, to match up with past programs.  That would positively scream "epic win" in addition to being a really nice gesture by Apple.  But this is an educated guess.
We still have to find out how 10.4 and 10.5 holdouts from late '06-mid '09 (and y'all know who y'all are, ladies and gents) are going to get Lion based on the only system requirement of a 64-bit CPU.  I suspect a Mac Box Set refresh would be in order for this task.
Also: how would one reinstall Lion "clean" if, say, the hard disk flips out or one just doesn't want excess baggage gumming up his machine?   Recovery partitions assume the worst won't happen.
Unfortunately, this also leaves the earlier '06 Macs on life support and effectively kills off all prior Macs with PowerPC chips, so to anybody with a Core Duo or G-series chip, Apple wants you upgrading hardware--NOW!

I don't want other computers connect with my computer, I don't want sharing my macbook pro, so how I can protect my computer and avoid other people connect with my computers

As long as you do not enable Sharing of any kind (System Preferences > Sharing) no other computer can connect with yours. Also make sure you have your wireless network protected with a WPA2 password.
That's all I can suggest without knowing what OS version you are running (you are not running iOS as that is for iDevices).

  • How do I resize Photoshop - it's too large for my Macbook Pro screen and I can't get to the resize corners?

Photoshop is too large for my Macbook Pro screen.  I cannot access the resize handles - they're off the screen and I can't drag it.  Any solution?

Do you see the red, yellow, and red window buttons? If so click on the green one.
If you don't see them then you are possibly in full screen mode, and pressing the "F" key once or twice allow you to get back to normal mode.

  • My new macbook pro retina recognizes, but can't transfer data from the Time Machine Volume

I back up my old 2008 MacBook Pro to a Time Machine volume sitting on a very new 2 TB drive that is connected to a Time capsule via USB. I got that new drive from OtherWorld Computing about 2 months ago.
I just received a brand new 2012 MBP (retina).
Pondini's page on setting up a new mac says that it's easiest just to transfer everything over the first itme you start up the new machine. (ref: http://pondini.org/OSX/Setup.html)
So, I took my new 2012 MBP, plugged it into the Time Capsule directly with ethernet (I have the Thunderbolt-to-USB connector).
    Then turn it on.
The 3rd page into the startup sequence gives me a choice to "Transfer Information to this Mac". It offers 4 options
    "From Another Mac"
    "From a Windows PC"
    "From Another Disk"
    "Not Now"
    I chose "From Another Disk"
Then it offers "Select the Source"
The sources are 4 blue icons. 2 of them are backups of other machines, ones that sit on the Time Capsule's internal drive. 1 is a small "media storage" space I saved on the internal drive of the Time Capsule.
The important one is "Macbook Pro backup ("StefanTimeCapsule")
This is the one physically parked in the external USB drive.
So.... I select it. It asks me to log on with user ID and password, and then says an endless "Connecting" message
It never gets to the next menu.
If I arrow "back" in the startup window sequence to the "Select the Source" windo, the 4 blue volumes are again displayed, with the word "Connecting" next to the backup I want, strongly suggesting that the "connection" is never fully established.
Just for fun I plugged that external USB drive directly into the USB port of the new Retina MBP, but it was not recognized at all.
    I tried different ethernet cables.
At this point my thoughts are perhaps
    (a) I need a powered USB hub
    (b) I need to somehow have Apple service the Time Capsule (but for what? I don't know)
I could potentially just transfer from the Old 2008 Macbook Pro Directly, but it seems to me problematic not to be able to access the primary backup.
    Any ideas out there?

A picture of a screen that suggests my new MBP Retina never connects to the "Macbook Pro backup ("StefanTimeCapsule")
This is the one that has the files for the backups procured by the Time Machine program. But it can't "connect"-- You 'll see int he sideways pic (sorry!) that the options STILL says "connecting"
Do i have to make these Time Machines more open to connection?

  • New Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late 2013 Barely gets 9 hours - return it?

I just bought this computer and I've been disappointed with the battery life getting around 4 hours while using it for programming and web. I was thinking of returning it because it is not enough for a day without the charger.  I was expecting 6-7 hours.  Last night I left it on at 50% screen and keyboard brightness doing nothing and it lasted exactly 9 hours with 1% charge remaining. The CPU is 2.4Ghz.
Is this acceptable or should return it?

So your battery is fine but your battery life is a little shorter than it should be. According to Engadget's review,
The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is rated for up to nine hours of battery life, compared with seven hours on the non-Retina model. As it turns out, though, that's actually a rather conservative estimate: We were able to eke out an impressive 11 hours and 18 minutes of continuous video playback. Mind you, that was with some pretty taxing system settings, including auto-brightness off, display brightness fixed at 9/16 bars (no dimming), the screen saver turned off and instructions to never put the disk to sleep.
If you are 100% sure you didn't have any background programs running when you did your 9 hour battery test, there might be something wrong. There's nothing much I can do to help you without physically looking at your Mac so I'd suggest taking it to an Apple store to get it checked out.

  • HT3231 I've just got MacBook pro and now I can't get pass the password section.  We didn't set a password

Help please, my MacBook pro is asking for a password but we didn't set one

You need to set a password. So, do this:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu. Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow instructions in the dialog window that will appear.
Or see Reset a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Password and OS X Lion- Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.

  • New user. Need to know where my email contacts are on my macbook pro and how I can make a group email address

New user. Email contacts imported to MacBook pro from PC - but I'm unable to call up entire contact list or to make a group emailing contact.

Assuming you are using Apple's Mail application, contacts are managed via the Contacts application, in your application folder.  As for various addressing methods, including groups, maybe this:

  • After migrating CS3 to new Macbook Pro Retina... I get and error: "Licensing for this product has stopped working"...

Don't have old discs to reinstall nor serial number (unless I can use the serial number that appears on the product info on my previous mac).
I know that there are other forums indicating some steps to take. I've tried some of these steps but have not had much luck.
If I reinstall the programs on my old mac I am afraid that I wont be able to re-access them if I cant get either computer to work...
    Thanks!

The problem is that migrating Adobe applications doesn't work.
You'll have to clean all the CS stuff off the new computer with the Adobe Cleaner tool:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Then install with a new clean install file here:
    Other downloads
However, be aware that CS3 often does not work on the latest Mac OS X versions!
