Macbook pro retina keyboard backlight always on

My new MacBook Pro Retina keyboard backlight always on under room light?
I've to turn it off manually.
But if under sunlight, it doesn't lit which means the ALS is working, may be just not that sensitive enough under ML.
ML problem ?
I saw those display set at retail is working under room light but running Lion not ML.
Is ML really have problem ?
Should I reverse to Lion ?

No need to revert back to Lion.
May be resetting SMC will help.

  • Left shift key of my new macbook pro retina 13 is always pressed.

My 1 month old macbook pro retina 13 inch model has a problem now. Left shift key is always pressed which results in booting to safe mode.
Currently i have overcome the issue by pressing "option" while booting and used keyremap software to disable "left shift key". Since this a temporary solution, I would like to know what would have caused the shift key to behave like this. If the key not working would have been better, but it is always in pressed state.
Please let me know what I can do to rectify this. If keyboard to be replaced, approximately how much it will cost for the same? I am looking for a positive response....

Hi BobRz, you are probably talking about the screen display which normaly dims during low light conditions, and that's true. but my concern is the keyboard brightness, it suppose to increase in low light conditions, but instead it dims to the point that i can no longer see the letters on the keyboard. I have viewed a youtube video about the normal adustment function, and mine is doing the opposite

  • Macbook Pro Retina keyboard missing keystrokes (spontaneously)

I notice that when I type on my Macbook Pro Retina, once in a while (it comes in waves), some of the keys stop registering.
I suspect it's not a mechanical hardware malfunction, as the keys start working a few minutes later fully normally (I can again type as fast as possible).
It's as if some software function takes priority over my keys registering, and the keys can't keep up with being registered by the computer.
Anyone else has a similar issue?  It's a bit odd.  Anything that can be done to fix this?
I just had this issue when typing an email in Mail.
I jumped over to TextEdit and it was still not working there (so it's not app specific).  I tried typing a sentence and got this:  "I st htoenms by thatsulbewsoem"
After about 5 minutes it works again totally fine.
    Z.

Sadly, I too am having this problem, and did NOT have the issue before updating to Mavericks.
For me, it's always the first keystroke when filiing out any form in a webpage. For me, the keystroke shows up, but is instantly highlighted, as if selected, then the next keystroke wipes it out by typing over it. Talk about an interuption while typing..
An issue of this proportion is completely unacceptable. As a web developer literally LIVING on my macbooks, this is something that should never happen and needs to be fixed. I can't even see having this type of issue on an old Acer or HP or some other junky computer, but to be having this issue on my Macs.. No, unexceptable.
I expect and deserve more than this, regardless of the price paid (which obviously was not cheap...)

  • Macbook pro retina keyboard

I bought the new macbook pro retina, and I found the down key on keyboard has sunk a little bit...
    Is it normal?

On my mbp retina, its the right arrow key that also has a simmilar problem. It started to squeak but then the noise went away on its own. The left key now lays to the side and feels wird when pressed. Can Apple fix these problems?

  • [REQUEST] Macbook Pro Retina Keyboard Driver

    Greetings everyone,
I was browsing MSDN for tutorials onto how to make a keyboard filter driver in order to swap Fn-Ctrl and remap PowerKey to Delete on a Macbook pro retina internal keyboard. I managed to get a project up and running but I didn't get too far after that. My
knowledge regarding driver development is limited, so I am asking can this really be done?
If yes, can someone write a keyboard filter driver in order to achieve this functionality? After many attempts I just gave up.
    Thank you for your time.

Thanks for posting here Doron Holan, I did use that example and it is quite useful. However I couldn't install the compiled driver onto the HID Keyboard. How do I install it correctly?
When I used update driver and pointed to the .INF file it gave me an error that no suitable driver was found. The project by itself is designed for a PS2 keyboard. So how do I adapt the project to work with a HID Keyboard?

  • Macbook 13 Retina keyboard backlight not turning on

    Hi all,
I've had my 13inch MPRr for about two weeks now and whenever it comes out of sleep from a LidOpen the keyboard backlight will seldom turn on.  It is pretty inconsistent but I can usually get it activated again when I put it into sleep manually from the menu bar.  Has anyone else experienced erratic behavior from the keyboard backlight?

I'm also experiencing this problem. my 2.6 macbook pro is less than 2 weeks old and the backlit keyboard stopped illuminating a few days ago. it DID work for a time, but suddenly decided to stop working. labtick and preference pane tweaks have done nothing to fix the problem.
Try resetting your SMC, PRAM and run your hardware tester.

  • MacBook Pro Retina - Keyboard and Touchpad Unresponsive While Charging

    Hi all,
I am having some trouble with my early 2014 15" Retina MacBook Pro.
Sometimes when attempting to charge my laptop, if I have been out and about, I can only have the charger plugged in for 30 seconds maximum upon booting up the machine, before the touchpad and keyboard become unresponsive.
The fans normally whirl loudly and then I lose both the touchpad and keyboard, to the extent that my MacBook attempts to search for a bluetooth keyboard as it can not detect one connected.
This has only happened twice but its becoming a major annoyance and a big concern on such a high value item.
Has anyone had any experience of this type of behaviour?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Replace Macbook pro 13 Keyboard/Backlight

After the initial trauma of a red wine spill, that happened to land all over my MBP keyboard, I have realised that it still functions perfectly. The wine hasn't managed to get through to the inner workings or hardware of my mac and the only casualty seems to be the keyboard backlight. Although it seems that the backlight is still working the wine has stained the film that separates the keyboard from the internal hardware. The result: a few keys light up properly and the rest are incredibly dim.
I realise that it'd be near impossible to repair this problem myself and I have come to understand that I will most likely have to have the top case replaced. Does anyone have any advice or any hint as to what the cost may be to fix my keyboard?

Hopefully this helps….I dont work for apple so I cannot tell you the exact price of repair cost and parts….However I can say I had whole keyboard replaced on my previous MBP (was covered under applecare) and on the form that listed the replacements the keyboard was listed as 275. Again this may or may not be pertinent but hey better then nothing hopefully!

  • Amateur mistake: spilled alcohol on macbook pro retina keyboard

I apologize if this isn't the proper spot to ask this question, please let me know if it isn't.
Here's the situation: after spilling the alcohol on my keyboard and cleaning the keyboard, the mac didn't shut off. In fact it was quite normal for 30 minutes. Even now, I can even type things just fine plus the screen is functioning well too. However, the real problem lies within the cursor/trackpad. I don't use a mouse, only the trackpad, and now I can't control the cursor that well at all. Luckily I am a digital artist so I used a wacom tablet to control it. For a while the mac worked normally using that. Unfortunately, even with the tablet the cursor later started acting spastic again. Since everything else is working fine I was able to back up all my files and shut it off. I then followed instructions I found online to put the computer laying on a towel in an L shape. I was going to unscrew the back and clean out what I could with rubbing alcohol but none of my screw drivers fit the tiny screws. And it's too late at night where I am right now to go to a store and buy one.
I made a reservation with the genius bar near me for an early visit, but I was hoping if anyone knew if there was any hope in saving my computer? I mean, everything seems to be working fine....it's just the trackpad. Or perhaps I shouldn't say that so flippantly: 'JUST the trackpad.' Please, if there's anything you can offer, any insight or experience it would be greatly appreciated. I'd prefer not to have to buy a whole new computer and reinstall my software all over again, but I understand if my careless mistake might get me down that road. Thank you for your time, I'll be crossing my fingers.

Well seeing as alcohol evaporates quickly i would assume its all pretty much dry, but if it isn't dry UNDER the trackpad that would cause it to not function correctly. Try to use a hair drying on the lowest heat setting to dry out your trackpad AND keyboard, make sure the macbook is off.  It should take about 10 minutes to get it completely dry.
Goodluck and let me know if you need any other assistance/if it doesn't work

  • Macbook pro retina keyboard problems

So just about 30 minutes ago my keyboard started acting up. The keys "ASDFGHJKLZXCVBNM" and the "comma" and "period" buttons work, but instead of typing their respective letters they type their letter and another letter. So for an example say i press the "M" key. It would type M and another letter, lets say B. So instead it will look like "mb" instead of just "m". Thats with every key listed above ^^. I decided to restart and shut down my macbook but the problem lingered and now i cant even unlock my computer. I can get a usb keyboard and use that to unlock my computer if needed. If anyone can help me it would be awesome.

If you are in the habit of eating and drinking while using your computer, the keyboard is probably dirty.  Use a can of compressed air or a vacuum hose to remove the debris underneath the key.  If that does not work, you may actually have a hardware issue.  You are still under warranty or have Apple Care, call them and get a case number.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Keyboard not responding after Sleep

    Hi,
I am having an issue that I have noticed in Mountain Lion. When I put my MBPr to sleep, either via Apple->Sleep or by Closing the lid (maybe sleep for 5-10 min or more); the Keyboard will not respond at all and cannot enter the Password to get back in.
I have tried to remove the lock screen in order to avoid that but the same things happens for any App that I try to use and requires keyboard. The Apple Magic Mouse works fine, and I have no external keyboard connected.
I have taken it to the Store and the ML was re-installed...still same issue
Anyone had this happen and able to determine the cause?

Just some more info regarding this:
Pressing a key on the usb key board will bring up the log in screen and the mouse works (plugged into the keyboard) but text input from the keyboard doesn't work.
