Macbook pro retina keyboard problems

So just about 30 minutes ago my keyboard started acting up. The keys "ASDFGHJKLZXCVBNM" and the "comma" and "period" buttons work, but instead of typing their respective letters they type their letter and another letter. So for an example say i press the "M" key. It would type M and another letter, lets say B. So instead it will look like "mb" instead of just "m". Thats with every key listed above ^^. I decided to restart and shut down my macbook but the problem lingered and now i cant even unlock my computer. I can get a usb keyboard and use that to unlock my computer if needed. If anyone can help me it would be awesome.

If you are in the habit of eating and drinking while using your computer, the keyboard is probably dirty.  Use a can of compressed air or a vacuum hose to remove the debris underneath the key.  If that does not work, you may actually have a hardware issue.  You are still under warranty or have Apple Care, call them and get a case number.

Is ML really have problem ?
Should I reverse to Lion ?

No need to revert back to Lion.
May be resetting SMC will help.

  • Macbook pro retina keyboard

I bought the new macbook pro retina, and I found the down key on keyboard has sunk a little bit...
    Is it normal?

On my mbp retina, its the right arrow key that also has a simmilar problem. It started to squeak but then the noise went away on its own. The left key now lays to the side and feels wird when pressed. Can Apple fix these problems?

  • My MacBook Pro retina restart problem

My MacBook Pro retina display is not starting apple logo with spinning wheel appears no desktop page appears. I tried to shut down manually couple of times but same thing happens.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 7
Repeat step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 8
This step applies only to a pre-2013 Mac Pro tower, not to any other model. A dead logic-board battery can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions.
    Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.

You are not the first one. Every laptop with retina display that I know in Latvia has this problem.
Hope that Apple reads such claims and will do something on upcoming models.

  • Macbook Pro Retina keyboard missing keystrokes (spontaneously)

I notice that when I type on my Macbook Pro Retina, once in a while (it comes in waves), some of the keys stop registering.
I suspect it's not a mechanical hardware malfunction, as the keys start working a few minutes later fully normally (I can again type as fast as possible).
It's as if some software function takes priority over my keys registering, and the keys can't keep up with being registered by the computer.
Anyone else has a similar issue?  It's a bit odd.  Anything that can be done to fix this?
I just had this issue when typing an email in Mail.
I jumped over to TextEdit and it was still not working there (so it's not app specific).  I tried typing a sentence and got this:  "I st htoenms by thatsulbewsoem"
After about 5 minutes it works again totally fine.
    Z.

Sadly, I too am having this problem, and did NOT have the issue before updating to Mavericks.
For me, it's always the first keystroke when filiing out any form in a webpage. For me, the keystroke shows up, but is instantly highlighted, as if selected, then the next keystroke wipes it out by typing over it. Talk about an interuption while typing..
An issue of this proportion is completely unacceptable. As a web developer literally LIVING on my macbooks, this is something that should never happen and needs to be fixed. I can't even see having this type of issue on an old Acer or HP or some other junky computer, but to be having this issue on my Macs.. No, unexceptable.
I expect and deserve more than this, regardless of the price paid (which obviously was not cheap...)

  • 13" macbook pro retina 2013 problem: blank screen when waking up from standby

I bought a 13" macbook pro retina 2013 about 3 months ago and it is for about a week or two that I encountered a problem: when I close the lid and open it after a while(or it goes to standby by not using it for some time and then I wake it up by pressing a button), sometimes it shows a blank dark screen(with mouse cursor) for about 15 seconds and then either the screen is turned off(and by pressing a key it shows the login screen) or it shows the normal login screen.

I also have this problem, and now the
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M is not working at all
I use gfxCardStatus for work on integrated card and i can't use other displays obviously, because all video outputs (HDMI & Thunderbolt) are taking their ways from discrete card (but working on other displays is my profession of audiovisual artist). My world guarranty is over now, new motherboard costs near 1500 $ and now i don't want what to do.Maybe reballing of videochip will help me, but i'm afraid that not autorised service in my country will kill my motherboard at all. This is my first mac & i have lost many time for take the money for buyng it. I have so much frustration.

  • [REQUEST] Macbook Pro Retina Keyboard Driver

    Greetings everyone,
I was browsing MSDN for tutorials onto how to make a keyboard filter driver in order to swap Fn-Ctrl and remap PowerKey to Delete on a Macbook pro retina internal keyboard. I managed to get a project up and running but I didn't get too far after that. My
knowledge regarding driver development is limited, so I am asking can this really be done?
If yes, can someone write a keyboard filter driver in order to achieve this functionality? After many attempts I just gave up.
    Thank you for your time.

Thanks for posting here Doron Holan, I did use that example and it is quite useful. However I couldn't install the compiled driver onto the HID Keyboard. How do I install it correctly?
When I used update driver and pointed to the .INF file it gave me an error that no suitable driver was found. The project by itself is designed for a PS2 keyboard. So how do I adapt the project to work with a HID Keyboard?

  • Macbook Pro Retina Display problems.

Hi I recently purchased the Macbook Pro with Retina Display. I noticed that there is a verticle line running from each side of the screen. I doesn't seem to affect the display quality. I just wanted to know if anyone else has it and if it could lead to a problem in the future...

    HI,
I bought a MBP with retina yesterday. There are some signs about low quality of display. I have two brightening vertical line in middle of display, and right side of display has little bit different colour (mainly white) liken left side.
The APR doesn't want change this machine.
I think about Apple uses worse and worse displays in last years. You can find that picture about phenomenon here:

  • Macbook Pro Retina Screen Problems

In July 2012, I got a Macbook Pro with Retina display with a one year Apple Care plan.
Within the past few months, shortly after my Apple Care ended, I have had a host of problems with the display. Occasionally during use, the entire scren will kind of blank or static out, and just show a ton of gray stripes and eventually flicker back to normal. Also, there are two tiny divits or chips in the screen. The thing is, there was never anything done to prompt these. One day I just opened it, and the first one was there, and a few months later the second one.
Because these are problems I have read about frequently (not to mention the image burning after I close certain programs that has been going on since I got the computer), even though my Apple Care expired, will Apple still repair or replace this, or am I totally out of luck?
Any help given would be really appreciated!

  • Macbook pro retina battery problems

so basically my macbook pro is only lasting 2 hours on battery, its supposed to last up to 7.  I only light work that dosent work the macbooks battery too hard, i use low brightness, and i dont have crazy stuff installed i keep it clean. I called apple and they told me that 2 hours is not normal, that i should be getting 7 hours max wit what i do, especially the retina macbook pro since it has an avanced battery and hardware.
they remotely accessed my macbook and said that the battery issue and heat issue is software related, and they said my macbook software issues was virus related. they told me that i would need to pay them the support package so they can run their software remotely to my mac to fix the virus related issue.
so my question is, is this really possible, for battery and heat issues to be affected by software and virus, or is it just an excuse so they can get my money.
even if it is true, cant i just fix it by reinstalling a new copy of osx to my macbook pro and the virus will be deleted. or isnt there a software that can delete this specific virus for me? what options can i take?

You're missing my point. I know that watching movies is more intensive than web browsing and maybe the problem is to do with VLC.
When I watch a movie through quick time I still have an estimated 6h26m remaining with 65% battery left. In comparison when I watch a movie on VLC it showed around 3h left with the same amount of battery left.
Also, I'm not sure if this is to do with VLC or if it was a coincidence, but my CPU was at around 30% (system) and the temperature doubled.
