MacBook Pro Retina sound stopped working unless I put in and remove my headphones
I have a MacBook Pro Retina and the audio only works if I plug in my headphones and then pull them out. I hear the ding when I turn the computer on but nothing else once it's booted. Does anyone else have this issue? I confirmed that my sound settings are correct.
If you see a red light in the audio output port, then the headphones will be receiving the audio signal. When you insert and pullout your headphones you are probably tripping an internal switch that was stuck and now enables the sound to come from the internal speakers. This is a normal solution to that problem, but really should not occur. A trip to the Apple store genius bar might be a good idea. You still must be within the warranty period.

The Logic Board of my MacBook Pro Retina Display stopped working.
I purchased my MacBook Pro Retina Display 13 months ago. Barring a few errors the computer functioned beautifully, and I maintained it with the care it deserved. On Wednesday, last week, the laptop ceased to work completely. It wouldn't start, or charge. On submitting it for repair, I was informed that the logic board failed. Since its warranty lapsed a month ago, $1050 is required for its replacement. That outrageous amount is more than half of what I paid initially for the laptop. The service provider would not agree to any concession, or plea.
For an Apple enthusiast, it is very disheartening to learn that its foremost product stops operating in this manner. I am a high school senior, who has accustomed himself to his computer, and cannot at this time purchase a new laptop, let alone a Windows laptop. With college admission deadlines fast approaching, I solicit your help and suggestions, very desparately.As much as it will suck to hear this answer, there really is no solution. Because the computer is now out of warranty, you have to pay the full $1050 to get the logic board replaced. I know this is a large sum of money, but you have to remember that the logic board includes the CPU, Graphics Card and RAM, all soldered onto the board. You're paying to replace all of the most expensive components of your computer, even if only one of them failed.
So, long story short, you'll have to either pay to replace the logic board, because it's out of warranty, or buy a new computer. -
My MacBook Pro speakers are stopped working and on screen volume icon shows in gray colour I am unable to change the volume.
Go step by step and test.
1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
Highlight Internal Speakers.
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
Try this even if you don’t see the red light.
3. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
Do this twice
4. Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the appropriate method.
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
Audio Devices window
Side Bar
Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so,uncheck it.
6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
Play sound effects through:
Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device". -

It only occure on my macbook pro retina on bootcamp. only bluetooth devices not own keyboard or touchpad.
My iMac(2009late) does not problem.
Yesterday I clean setup bootcamp again, It still problem.
I just guess some bootcamp driver problem at ssd or bluethooth. Mac OS also OK.
First time I got new ratina, no problem. nothing to chaged. just update collectly.
Anybody help or same problem here?
ThanksI should point out, this happens with/without peripherals attached.. ILOK dongle was disconnected at the time of crash. I will however check for updates..
I have found somthing interesting tho - as it's out of warranty I downloaded a fan controller and forced the fans to full speed... The MacBook played video for hours, no problems. I believe this is a overheating issue because they fans just do to turn spin fast enough without being forced... Or it could be dust?
I'm going to have Genius Bar clean it out if the will?.,. -

I have the same problem and was advised by someone to reset System Management Controller (SMC). I haven't tried it yet though. I wish it could fix it. Let's give it a shot!

I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro and I have just bought a 13" macbook pro retina display. I need to run films and presentations remotely., i.e not sitting at the computer.
Does RemoteHD work on a machine without a built in IR sensor, or does anybody know what would work?I can't vouch for this as I've never tried one, but I think this does what you're after.

MacBook Pro Retina Sound Issues
Hi folks,
I used my MacBook Pro Retina with no difficulties over the last 2 month,
but recently I have experienced some sound problems.
Often, when I just want to play a video on YouTube or listen to some
music, the sound stops for a blink of an eye or is crackling throughout the
song or video.
It sounds a bit like the soundcard is having difficulties to play back the
sound, but I don't think a normal iTunes Song is causing this.
I furthermore imagine, that some driver is not running properly or
the threads for audio output are disturbing each other.
But I have absolutely no clue, what the cause is.
Maybe someone else experienced the same.
I would be grateful for any help.
Ps: I have the MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012 (2,6 GHZ; 16 GB RAM; 512 GB SSD) Version,
if this is any hint.Im terrifyed right now. I just got home, sat down and plugged my headphones into my Mid 2012 MacBook Pro Retina to start producing some music. As fast as I adjusted the volume on the MB a loud noise was heard in the right ear. I played a song in iTunes to discover that the sound was slightly distorted and very noisy in the right ear while you could hear the music normally in the left ear. I switched between an additional pair of headphones and a pair of speakers but got the same result. I checked the preferences and rebooted the MB without any luck.
I have two theories why Im having this problem. Earlier today I plugged my computer into a soundcard via 1/8 RCA-cables, allowing me to play music through my schools monitors. The soundcard had Phantom Power enabled but I disabled it quickly when I realized. The cable I used was also a bit dodgy, it was noisy and didnt work properly. Could this malfunctioning cable or the fact that I Phantom-powered my MB have fried my AUDIO JACK?! I contacted my teacher but he said that this cant be the reason for my issue.
My other theory, and this is the one I beg to be the reason behind the problem, is that a software update caused the issue. A couple of hours ago I updated my MBs software. I dont remember what kind of update it was though, probably quite a few since I havent done it for a while. I read on some forums that people have had problems with the retina MB and the sound after certain updates. Could this be the reason?
Im frustrated, frightened and very eager to make some techno. Any help or tips would be eternally appreciated!

Macbook pro retina sound buzzing
Just bought a brand new MacBook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013 yesterday. I absolutely love it, but I have a small problem. On certain itunes movies, I have noticed, when the sound is high, that it will creat a very annoying buzzing sound. Is it a problem with the mac or the movie? I don't no. If there are any solutions to this problem, I would be very grateful to here them!
I have a simular problem. It happens all the time with headphones in or if I play sound through the speakers, in fact it happens once the sound is up more than half way even if nothing is playing.

Read the Boot Camp Instructions, you have to download the drivers using Boot Camp Assistant

Macbook Pro Retina (15") can't connect to wireless mouse and external USB keyboard

I got my new MacBook Pro Retina (15 inch) about 3 weeks ago. It works fine. I got a 30" Dell screen that I am using via thunderbolt/usb adapter. Also, I am using a thunderbolt ethernet adapter. Both adapters work fine without any problems.
I have an apple usb keyboard connected to the USB hub of the screen, as well as my iphone cable. It is a regular, full size apple keyboard. In addition to this, I have a logitech nano connected directly to the right usb port of the macbook pro.
This setup was working well until a few days ago. I lost connectivity with my mouse. Initially, I thought the batteries are empty. After replacing them, I still had no connection (again, the usb receiver is *directly* connected to the macbook).
I changed a few cables here and there and noticed that I can get either the keyboard to work or the mouse but not both at the same time. A reboot did not help.
Did anybody encounter such a strange problem already? If so, what could I possibly do?

It is certainly difficult to use the computer if your wireless keyboard and mouse do not connect. I found a few resources I recommend for this issue.

I downloaded Firefox 4 and immediately noticed I could not zoom in and out by using the two finger "pinch" action used on MacBook Pro trackpads.
