MacBook Pro retina trackpad not working

I purchased a MacBook pro with retina display two days ago and today the trackpad is not working. The mouse will not move or click. Everything else appears to be working correctly. I am using the 15" model if that makes any difference. Please let me know if there is something simple I am missing as I am a new Mac user and have minimal experience with these computers

Any hardware related issues should be brought to the attention of Apple.

Hi - not sure if everyone has had the same problem as well.
For me, the keyboard and trackpad sometimes just don't work and when that happens, the bluetooth sign seems to be different (as attached here).
Does someone know how to solve it?
    Much obliged!

  • My macbook pro retina trackpad wont work...

Two week old macbook book pro with retina.. all of a sudden I cant click on my trackpad and my external mouse (usb wireless microsoft) cant right click either.. was working fine for about a week and suddenly stopped.. Im having no trouble with the left click but nothing with the right.. looking for help, thanks

The mouse I can't help, but if the trackpad won't physically click when pressed, it means some debris got stuck between the trackpad itself and the surrounding aluminum case. There is a minuscule gap all around and if a crumb, a large speck of dirt, etc., got lodged in there, will prevent it from returning to its unpressed "up" state.
Take a strong lamp and carefully examine it. If it is the case, a blast or two from one of those "compressed air" duster cans may do the trick of dislodging the contaminant and restoring functionality. Try pressing down firmly while blowing.
Or take it back to the Store and hope the Geniuses aren't too cranky and don't brush you off with a "cosmetic or user induced defect, not covered" lame excuse.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Trackpad Issue

Has anyone had any issues with the Macbook Pro Retina Trackpad going to sleep. Whenever I start or restart my Macbook up and try to click on my User name to log in, the trackpad doesn't work. I have to navigate with the keypad and hit return. This also happens sometimes when I am using it as well, and I have use 2 fingers to press the Apple logo and then put the computer to sleep and wake it up again to get the trackpad to work. Any ideas what is causing this? I did initially think it was a program I installed called NoSleep, but I have since uninstalled this and still the same problems, although I have installed a similar program called Lid Sleep, but don't think this would cause a problem.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

You have some type of hardware fault, IMHO. Best to take it to Apple hand have it checked out.

You haven't identified the version so I can't tell if offering you contact options for Adobe Support will be of use to you.  But they will likely be your only hope of getting resolution unless you just happen to be using the wrong number as the serial number.

  • My brand new MacBook Pro retina display not charging the battery any more after 3 weeks...no green or red Led. Any one now about this problem? Thanks

My brand new MacBook Pro retina display not charging the battery any more after 3 weeks...no green or red Led. Any one now about this problem? Thanks

Either the power brick is damaged, or the charging circuit is on the blink, or both. Either way, a trip to the Apple Store or the Apple Authorized Service Provider is in order, as this ain't no bargain basement toy.
In the meantime, can attempt an SMC Reset to see if it helps.

  • Macbook pro retina trackpad won't click

Macbook Pro retina display 10.8.4 2.7 ghz i7:
Trackpad started to not respond to click by mechanicle nor touch inputs. Seems to happen after waking up from sleep and after a period of time reverts to normal function. Used the Pram reset and it does not make a difference. Observations I have noted:
    1) Track pad does not respond in the user selection screen
    2) Track pad does not respond while in different users accounts
    3) Track pad always responds in the option startup
    4) Track pad does not respond while in recovery mode
    5) When selecting windows bootcamp trackpad always responds
It seems to me that the trackpad is having a software issue within Mac OSX and it is not  an issue with the hardware. I tried to install the Trackpad update 1.0 but I get an error stating that it is not for this type of computer.

Try a Safe Mode startup and see if it works ok while in that mode. Hold down the Shift key before the startup chime. Will take awhile longer to finish startup. Will only load Apple system extensions while in this mode. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If it works ok in Safe, means you have installed some third-party software interfering with the trackpad. You'll have to do some sleuthing to determine which.

  • Macbook Pro retina will not turn on

I bought a 2012 Macbook Pro Retina 13" off Craigslist today.  It will not turn on.  I tried resetting the SMC and disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it.  It will still not turn on, the battery has been charging for 2 hours already and it's still amber on the magsafe.  It still has warranty coverage until 2014 so my next stop is the apple store.  I thought I could fix it myself but it is pretty tough to narrow down the cause.

I tried those already, did not work.
I did how ever remove the command key and wiped it down and it turns on perfectly!
but now the keyboard keys seem to be out of place or something. For example it makes a "ping" sound when i hit some of them, when i hit function or control it puts the letter Z.
    Any input would be great!

  • The Logic Board of my MacBook Pro Retina Display stopped working.

I purchased my MacBook Pro Retina Display 13 months ago. Barring a few errors the computer functioned beautifully, and I maintained it with the care it deserved. On Wednesday, last week, the laptop ceased to work completely. It wouldn't start, or charge. On submitting it for repair, I was informed that the logic board failed. Since its warranty lapsed a month ago, $1050 is required for its replacement. That outrageous amount is more than half of what I paid initially for the laptop. The service provider would not agree to any concession, or plea.
For an Apple enthusiast, it is very disheartening to learn that its foremost product stops operating in this manner. I am a high school senior, who has accustomed himself to his computer, and cannot at this time purchase a new laptop, let alone a Windows laptop. With college admission deadlines fast approaching, I solicit your help and suggestions, very desparately.

As much as it will suck to hear this answer, there really is no solution. Because the computer is now out of warranty, you have to pay the full $1050 to get the logic board replaced. I know this is a large sum of money, but you have to remember that the logic board includes the CPU, Graphics Card and RAM, all soldered onto the board. You're paying to replace all of the most expensive components of your computer, even if only one of them failed.
So, long story short, you'll have to either pay to replace the logic board, because it's out of warranty, or buy a new computer.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Trackpad scrolls wrong way

IR and yellow screen issues aside !...
my new macbook pro retina (with Mountain Lion already installed) has an issue with scrolling. It came with 'reverse' scrolling i.e. moving your fingers down the trackpad makes the screen move upwards and vice-versa. I find this confusing so I went to the system prefs to change it. Under the 'Scroll and Zoom' tab the first option is 'Scroll direction: natural - content tracks finger movement'. This is what I wanted. But curiously, this option was already checked, and giving me the reverse scroll direction! I unchecked it, so technically I should now have the reverse direction, but then I had the natural direction?!
Ok, so it's not so much of a problem, as I can change the direction. But obviously it is the wrong way around. Just wondered if anyone else had discovered this on their MBPr and if so, can it be corrected?
    Thanks!

Un check that setting. What Apple thinks is Natural is Backwards from what every other person in the world thinks and Knows it is.

  • MacBook Pro Retina sound stopped working unless I put in and remove my headphones

I have a MacBook Pro Retina and the audio only works if I plug in my headphones and then pull them out. I hear the ding when I turn the computer on but nothing else once it's booted. Does anyone else have this issue? I confirmed that my sound settings are correct.

If you see a red light in the audio output port, then the headphones will be receiving the audio signal.  When you insert and pullout your headphones you are probably tripping an internal switch that was stuck and now enables the sound to come from the internal speakers.  This is a normal solution to that problem, but really should not occur.  A trip to the Apple store genius bar might be a good idea.  You still must be within the warranty period.
    Ciao/

  • Macbook pro retina does not recognize Tiki USB microphone

Tiki external microphone is plugged into USB port on Macbook Pro Retina, but does not show up on list of audio inputs in system preferences.  I have tried restarting but nothing changed.  Has anyone experienced this?  I am up to date on software updates and am using 10.8.2.
