Macbook Pro Retina - Use a wireless keyboard

Silly question, but I need the answer.  Can the Macbook Pro Retina use the Apple Wireless Keyboard and then doc to a monitor via Thunderbolt?  My idea is just like you would dock a pc, so to speak.  I assume the answer to be yes, but need confirmation.
Thanks!

Yes.  You can use an external keyboard and monitor and even close the MBpro lid to operate in clamshell mode.
Here are the rules for clamshell mode:

  • 2 monitors on MacBook Pro (Retina) using Thunderbolt and HDMI ports?

I would like to buy a MacBook Pro with a Retina display.  I want to attach 2 external monitors and Ethernet.  I need to use one Thunderbolt port to attach to my (wired) ethernet.
Can I attach 2 monitors to a MacBook Pro (Retina) using
    1) a mini display port to DVI adapter
    2) a HDMI to DVI adapter?

Yes, it is possible to run 3 monitors at once on the Retina MacBook Pro (2 connected over Thunderbolt and one over  HDMI).
    Displays used in picture below:
Retina on laptop @ “best for Retina”
    iMac used as a display @ 2560 x 1440 via Thunderbolt
    iMac used as a display @ 2560 x 1440 via Thunderbolt/DisplayPort
    LG monitor @ 1920 x 1200 via HDMI
    Hope this answers your question.

  • Macbook Pro Retina and Older Bluetooth Keyboard Bug

I have the macbook pro retina and the older full size white bluetooth keyboard.  When I wake the macbook from sleep mode, the keyboard repeats all keypress many times.  Like the keys are sticky.  Turning the keyboard off and on fixes this problem.  I am running OS X 10.8.1.

I have the same problem with my older white Apple Wireless Extended Keyboard, which had been working fine with my 2009 iMac. But I experience the issue sporadically with my new Mac Mini. I've read reports of people resolving some BT issues by turning off "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" in the Advanced pane of the Bluetooth System Preferenes Pane.
There are also people having the issue on iOS devices using various Apple BT keyboards. No help, but interesting to note that it's happening across various devices, keyboard models, and OSs.

  • I would like to buy a MacBook Pro Retina 15" w QWERTY keyboard in Paris, France... do I have to add the price of an airline ticket to the US to do this?

    Hi,
I hope that someone in the community can help - I called the Apply main number in the US and the guy was clueless - he was even surprised that there are different time zones in other parts of the world.  Yep, I'm an American in Paris and realize that after 7 years here that I just don't want to switch to a french keyboard.  I'm in the market for a new MacBook Pro Retina (I already have one but am changing jobs), but can't seem to figure out how to buy one from Paris.  Apple doesn't ship outside the US...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

For information, i'm french and I have a friend that bought a US macbook pro but wanted a french AZERTY layout. If you buy a brand new one, the tip is to order the devise directly at the online apple store and to ask for the free option Canadian keyboard. Canadian keyboard are also azerty! I don't know for German layout...
    http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/111945/How+to+exchange+the+complete+Keyboard+ (MBA+2012+13%22)
The apple.ca store lists an English or French BTO option. But I don't know if that's the "real" French layout or the Quebec government's stipulated CSA layout. And maybe one with the QWERTY or maybe QWERTZ layout.
    The apple.com US site lists:
    Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
Keyboard (Western Spanish) & User's Guide
    Keyboard (French) & User's Guide
    Keyboard (Japanese) & User's Guide
Again. which French or others show what the actual keyboard layout will be or look like.
But buy the MB Air in France and other European countries and the choice and keyboard layout changes again, and most likely the France purchase will have the AZERTY KEYBOARD layout.
No mention I could find of the variations of the "Enter" key differences.

  • New Macbook pro retina but with different keyboard ?

Can I buy the new macbook pro retina 13' in HK but with a French keyboard ? I don't find the option online.. thanks!

No computer is fault free but Apple MBPs have a good track record.  In those cases where problems do arise, Apple has the best support in the industry.
A MBP with 4 GB RAM with the SSD storage should be adequate for your needs.

P.s. On Apple's site I found a refurbished late 2013 model of the MacBook Pro Retina 13 with all of the same specs as listed above (4GB, not 8GB), running OS X (doesn't say which one) but for a bit less than a brand new one. Is this the same model as what they're currently selling new in their store or did they just upgrade everything to match what is being offered in the current "new" model?
The latest MBP models came out in October 2013, so it will be the same, with the same warranty and telephone support.  The difference will be that the price will be less and it will be delivered in a plain white box.
I have purchased three MBPs from the refurbished section.  I have never been able to detect any cosmetic differences and will go that route again.
    Ciao.

  • Where can I buy a Macbook pro retina display with english keyboard in bangkok

    Hi,
I am currently in Bangkok right now. I wanted to buy the new Macbook Pro with retina display. I went to Power Buy in Central world and found out that the keyboard for the macs have thai characters as well as English ones. I wanted to buy a mac with plain English keyboard. The guy in the store said that is only possible if I buy online.
Is there anywhere or any store in Bangkok where I could get the new macbook pro with an english keyboard? Thanks.

Since nobody in this forum represents Apple or any store, you will probably get better info on this by directly contacting stores yourself.

  • Can i order a macbook pro retina with a german keyboard?

    Hey,
I'd like to know if it is possible to order a MacBook Pro with Retina display with a german keyboard?
And if its possible is it only possible to buy it in the online store or can i pick it up at a retail store?
    Greetings Hannes

    Hannes,
for the Apple Online Store, it depends upon which country you’re in — the German keyboard is an available option only in some countries. You can visit the Apple Online Store for your country, select the MacBook Pro model that you’re interested in, and see if a German keyboard is offered for it on the configuration page.
If you’re not in a country with a majority German-speaking population, you should call your closest Apple Retail Store to see if they can special-order one for you.

  • New Macbook Pro vs. the Apple Wireless Keyboard - delayed key action

Ever since I've had the latest (not retina version) laptop, my wireless keyboard doesn't have the same response time between stricking the key and the action showing on my screen. My usual reaction is to reboot (turn off then back on) the keyboard, which resolves the problem temporarily. It seems to get worse if I haven't used the computer in an hour or so.  I've run software update and haven't seen anything that indicates a link to the problem. Thoughts?

oh, im using the one that has no numeric keypad. Maybe something is interferring the Bluetooth, it's best to visit a Genius bar to check what really is the problem

  • Can you turn the power of a Mac Pro on using the wireless keyboard?

I have my Mac Pro tower at the other end of a table and I want to remotely turn it on with the Wireless keyboard or Trackpad.
I have it auto turning on in the Morning but would like to control it in case I shut down by accident from across the room.
    Thanks!

The processors in the Mac Pro are socketed so they
can be replaced as long as the replacement processor
is compatible. You could for example get a 2 Ghz Mac
Pro and later replace the Xeon processors with the
    3.0 Ghz processors.
That's great news! Thank you so much for your help. Does that mean im limited at 3.0ghz? Is there away to tell what the motherboard can max out to? Lets say I upgrade in three years and i want to put in a 3.5 or whatever may be available then. As long as its the same type of chip do i have that option? Or is 3.0 the max for the current intel motherboard?

the first one is the loose keyboard + lid and the second one the display problem which has less brightness compared to a macbook kept on display at the apple store.

It doesn't look normal to me. If I were you I'd ask for the store manager and show him. It doesn't look like it's hurting anything, but it should be tighter than that.
As for the color change, I think that's because they use two different screen suppliers and it looks like you got the other one. I'm not sure what they'll do about that. If it bothers you, I'd take the approach like "Look... it's not what I paid for, I'd like the original screen colors." Again, not sure how you'll make out with that one. I'd be polite but insistent if I were doing it.

  • Can I order a MacBook Pro retina with a Danish keyboard in a US applestore?

    Hello,
Is it possible to order a MacBook for pickup in a US apple store with a foreign (Danish) keyboard? I see no option on the homepage, and can't chat with support, since I’m located outside the US.
I want to order and pay in advance and then pick it up when I visit the US, since it's about 20% cheaper that way.
If this is possible what is the correct procedure?
    Thanks in advance.

You may have to declare the machine upon return in and frequently there is a value added tax for doing so.
You might be able to purchase the machine by phone when you enter the states.  The store is available by a tollfree number when you are in the states.     But you are correct while in the U.S. the online store only offers the two most common keyboards for the market.  There are ways of making the Danish characters with the English keyboard with certain Option keyboard commands though.   That may just be simpler.  Or you can always buy an external keyboard in Denmark when you return.  Macs accept most USB keyboards.  Logitech and Microsoft both make good Mac compatible keyboards.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 15 late 2013 keyboard/Trackpad freezes

I have had a problem for at least the last 6 months (possibly ever since I've had it since last November) with keyboard and trackpad freezing, usually when I awake it from sleep and/or plugging in an external display. I have to reboot by plugging in a USB mouse to fix it. Happens about two or three times a week on average.  I did reinstall it from scratch for Yosemite but still have the problem. I originally thought it was software but am now coming round to the view that I have a hardware problem.

    Hi,
Have you tried an SMC reset? If that does not work maybe you should make an appointment with the Apple Store's Genius Bar.
    Regards.
