Macbook Pro Retina Windows Graphic quality lost

I've had windows in installed on my Macbook Retina ever since I first got it just for running games. I was getting decent fps in Just Cause 2, Battlefield 3 and Skyrim running on high settings at 1920 x 1800 resolutions (30-50 fps) just a few days ago, I logged onto Battlefield 3 to find that I was getting less than 10. This has happened to all of these windows games. I have tried updating and downgrading the graphics card driver, windows 7 32 bit, windows 7 64 bit and windows 8 64 bit. After reinstalling Windows and re downloading all of the games, it apears it must be some kind of hardware issue. For battlefield 3 to be playable I now have to use the 480 x 720 resolution and low settings which is kind of pathetic. I think that the mac os graphics performance hasn't changed. This is only playing Amnesia and tf2 though because the only other game that I own on mac osx (Portal 2) has some bug where it wont open. Is it possible that windows is only using the intel 400 series graphics chip for some reason? This is the only thing that I can think of even thouhg it seems highly unlickly as windows does not support mac's graphics switching and doesn't even have the driver installed. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

The problem is with the last EFI upgrade. There are numerous reports about this bug across the internet. Don't know whether apple knows about it though. Need to contact them.
Reset your SMC, it restores FPS and overall performance, but problems returns after some time. I personally have done it already two times.

  • Bootcamp macbook pro retina windows 8 help

I am having difficult installing windows 8 on my macbook pro retina. I watched countless youtube videos and read many how to's but I can't figure this out. I bought the USB superdrive, I have a copy of Windows 8 Pro I purchased. I have a 8gb flash as well. I have done so many steps, download Iso for windows 8 (which I am unsure what this is or if I need it) I downloaded drivers and put them on my usb as well. I clicked install the latest windows software from apple. I partitoned to give windows 8 50gb space. Than it restarts and black screen comes up. Sorry for such the long paragraph, but for days I have been stuck.
Can someone please help me and please explain step by step as if you are explaining it to your grandmother. Lol. I erased my flash drive  and partitian back to only mac, so I will start fresh. Lol Thank you!

I think I figured it out finally. It's installing windows now.Not sure how to delete my thread but assistance is no longer needed.

  • Macbook Pro Retina + Windows 8 Questions

First: I know that Bootcamp doesnt have any Windows 8 drivers yet. I know that Windows 7 drivers will do temporarily.
In a month time, I will be getting a Macbook Pro retina. 13" base model. This would be my very first mac. I chose this mac because portability is a major factor for my everyday need. Im always on the move. I know the storage isn't enough but I will buy myself an external Hard drive. Depends on the budget. I will be using this laptop for not so heavy work. Mainly i will be studying Objective C and C++. Something for a free time self study developing. Reason why im putting windows in it, its because i need visual studio c++ for studying ( feel free to recommend any other application for c++ designed for mac). I chose windows 8 because the pro version is 60$ at my local retail.(I know how to do clean install without the requirements).
My questions to those who successfully installed Win8:
    1. What are the issues you encountered and how did you solved it?
    2. How's the performance? Laggy?
    Thanks in advance.

The update to boot camp is now available!
Just installed Windows 8.1 Pro to my MacBook Pro, Retina, Mid 2012, OS X 10.8.5: Memory 16GB 1600MHz DDR3
After going through the usual process from boot camp, then installed windows and the support drivers... the trackpad rt click did not work. I had to then go download the boot camp again from windows 8 using the url below and ran the set up.exe from the boot camp folder you can download from below. Run it within windows 8.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1638
    Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033
This solved the Trackpad Right Clicking issue (not working) as well as tapping.
The wireless and network connectivity and keyboard brightness and speakers issues where resolved as well. The Boot camp support software enabled a boot camp control panel available in the windows 8 system tray and from there you can enable the track pad to tap and use the secondary click.

  • Macbook pro retina windows 7 iso problem

Im on a macbook pro retina and have been trying to install windows 7 on it through bootcamp for the past 3 hours and no matter what image of Windows 7 I download from the internet it never fits bootcamp's requirements. I've gotten all the possible problems, from not being a 64 bits file to not even being windows 7 or later file. What on earth am I supposed to do?

  • HT1338 macbook pro retina webcam poor quality

I am very happy with my MacBook Pro Retina Display.
However, the webcan produces very poor image quality, feels like out of focus. (using facetime, imessage, skype, all software the same)
I went back to my Macbook pro 2011 version, the same 720p webcam, produces very clear picture.
I read quite a few people having this issues but looks no firm answer. I hope its a software issue.
I wonder if Apple is looking into this problem.
    Thanks

Yes, I have recently noticed the exact same issue.  RMBP has very poor webcam quality and is certainly not 720p (HD) display.
I have compared it to my desktop webcam, a logitech (HD720p camera) and images were by far much more superior for my logitech webcam.
I hope they do a software fix on the cameras.

  • Macbook pro retina, windows 7, how to install it without using optical drive?

    Hi,
I am thinking of buying the new macbook pro with retina display.
I do not intend to get and external optical drive.
I want to split the hard disk and install a windows 7 ultimate, which I own and have as an CD image ( ISO file ).
how can I install windows from my ISO without burning it into a CD or creating an external drive? is it possible?

Put the iso on a USB thumb drive. Then use Boot Camp Assistant to make the thumb drive bootable. Then follow the instructions in the Boot Camp Installation Guide. http://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro/bootcamp/
You should visit the Boot Camp Forum here https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp

  • Macbook Pro retina, Windows 8.1 dual screen, Dell E228WFP problem/blurry

    Hello brainiacs,
I am running my Macbook Pro 2013+ edition with Retina display and an extrenal screen.
Problem: Fonts and windows on secondary screen (Dell E228WFP), in extended display mode, appears blurry and/or large (see screenshot)
I use a Mini Display Port to DVI for my Dell Screen, Apple original product.
I use Windows 8.1 with latest Boot Camp, version 5.1
My Macbook is latest Macbook Pro with retina 15'' 2560x1600 px.
Dell Screen has a resolution of 1680 x 1050 px.
When I view the display settings in Screen Resolution mode in Windows, I get the following warning: "Your resoltuion is lower than 2028x1440. Some items might not fit on your screen". I do not believe this warining is regarding blurryness, but rather moving windows from primary to secondary monitor.
    Here's a screenshot:
Some of the texts look fairly sharp and crisp, for example the pop-up menu (except, this has huge fonts). Outlook is very blurry. Chrome is, - ok, but not perfect.

  • Is Anyone Having MacBook Pro Retina Display Graphics Issues?

So, I'm wondering if anyone has been having issues with their new MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display graphics? I've installed all the updates and ran the diagnostics. Nothing appears to be wrong, but most of my animations or motions on the computer aren't fluent and are choppy. And at least once a day I'll run into an issue like this: http://d.pr/i/elqX
Just wondering if any of you are running into this issue. It also struggles with Flash (but I assume that is just something Adobe has to update on their end).
    Cheers!

Think you maybe right, having looked on the Nvidia site lots of people are having major problems with the 6xx range and even the 5xx range seems like Nvidia's driver is missing something ? I know these are PC based problems but the OSX driver is still based on the same driver.
    Custom mini.
Ps. I forgot the Nvidia driver is Optimus based...............don't get me started on how bad Optimus does not work, have a look over at the Nvidia forum Optimus section.

  • Macbook pro retina - replaced battery quality and age?

This question is about a Retina MacBook Pro, 15-inch, Early 2013 (MacBookPro10,1). It was originally purchased in April 2013.
I would like to find information about the manufacture dates of batteries, and Apple's policies for hardware repairs and refurbished batteries.
My macbook has just undergone a major surgery (at a certified Apple Support Center) after I spilled coffee over the keyboard.
The logic board was replaced (which includes CPU, GPUs, memory, etc), and so was the the "top case" block.
The "top case", I found, it a unique component that comprises the keyboard, the trackpad and the battery.
I was told that these new components are (generally) refurbished parts provided by Apple, and that support centers don't have any control over their state (new or refurbished).
Now that I have got my macbook back, however, I inspected the system to verify the state of the new components, using a combination of tools and terminal commands.
I am very disappointed to see that I've got a very old battery, as its manufacture date is 2012-07-31 (according to this tool).
Is it ok? It looks like it was a battery used in a previous generation of the macbook pro. Or is it normal that early 2013 Macbook pros had their batteries manufactured in the summer of 2012?
The battery doesn't even seem to perform correctly (or, if it's not the battery, it's the logicboard). I've tried to discharge it completely and then recharge it, but the computer shut down when the battery was just at 18%, with no warning dialog from the OS. I plugged the power cord and resumed my session on the computer, and the battery level appeared to be 16%. I charged it until it reached 19%, unplugged the cord... and the battery level jumped to 25%!
The computer computer then shut down again when the battery reached 17%. I recharged it fully, and now I'm trying again (seems to be behaving more normally, now).
Still, that's odd. The original battery never did anything like that.
If it can be useful, this is my System Monitor App battery report (not charging at the moment, 12% left):
    Battery Information:
      Model Information:
        Serial Number:      D86230735FLDNMGAY
        Manufacturer:       SMP
        Device Name:        bq20z451
        Pack Lot Code:      0
        PCB Lot Code:       0
        Firmware Version:   511
        Hardware Revision:  3
        Cell Revision:      1150
      Charge Information:
        Charge Remaining (mAh):      1122
        Fully Charged:               No
        Charging:                    No
        Full Charge Capacity (mAh):  8487
      Health Information:
        Cycle Count:      3
        Condition:        Normal
      Battery Installed:   Yes
      Amperage (mA):       -2195
      Voltage (mV):        10617

Today I brought the macbook back to the service center, where they re-executed the hardware test.
They showed me the resulting graph, that showed that my battery state is "optimal": it was represented as a dot in the top-left corner of the green area, as in this image.
And yet, even though the problem described in the opening post hasn't happened again, I can tell that the battery lasts way less that the old one.
Again, does anyone have any information about the "normal" manufacture dates of macbook batteries?
Is it possible that this battery was designed for a previous generation of macbook pros?

  • MacBook Pro Retina Windows Bootcamp Massively Overheating

    Hey all,
After a struggle I finally got a Windows 7 64-bit installed into a partition and working. All well and good.
However, during gaming (my only reason for a Windows partition, until the game manufacturers create a native OS X version) the MBP overheats. I have a feeling the demise of my last MBP was due to this problem.
For reasons personal to my health, I game on the sofa with the laptop on ... my lap. So adding space underneath isn't really an option.
I'm looking for some advice, because I want to make the use of the NVIDIA graphics drivers I have to enjoy the visuals of the game, but I need to preserve my hardware. Windows runs fine without heating and the machine is beautifully cold in OSX even when designing.
    Here's some Spec:
    OSX: 10.9.5
    Windows: 7
    Processor: 2.3Ghz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 16GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
Graphics: Intel IRIS Pro 1536 MB
MBP: Retina, 15 inch Late 2013
Just looking for ideas to keep great graphics but not melt my mac

I think I figured it out finally. It's installing windows now.Not sure how to delete my thread but assistance is no longer needed.

  • Using Intel graphics in Windows on Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013 ?

I own a Macbook Pro Retina 15" Late 2013 with Nvidia GT750M graphics.
On Windows, the power consumption and heat production is noticeable higher than on OSX.
People said this is due the Nvidia GT750M being constantly used, because there is officially no way to switch to the more power saving Intel Graphics on Windows.
I have found a extremely tricky way to switch the graphics, but unfortunately I have no idea how I do this:

Does someone know a easier way to do it or can explain it step-by-step ?
I'd appreciate this very much if I could have a longer battery life on Windows

  • Safari graphical user interface poor quality on Macbook Pro Retina

I’ve noticed that the Safari graphical user interface quality is not good on my Macbook Pro Retina display. Although it has been optimized for Retina displays I keep seeing strange artifacts or glitches from time to time, while this one is persistent, check out the dark stripe behind the bookmarks toolbar : https://www.dropbox.com/s/pa7zizpbi7vdx41/Screen%20Shot%202013-04-21%20at%2012.5 6.11%20PM.png (if the link doesn’t open on click just do the right click - open in new tab) There are also same “spots” on toolbar buttons (bookmark folders) as well, but they are a bit harder to discern.
I don’t think it is a graphic card or display issue since almost all of retina-ready apps work just fine (I have replaced my LG with a Samsung screen, btw).
I wonder does anybody have the same experience with Safari? And if so, has anyone managed to solve the issue?

Try creating a brand new account (in System Preferences -> Users & Groups) and test there.
    Tried. The same.
I don't actually have a retina machine, but I see no reason for this to be related to the fact that you have a retina MBP. Unless you have information that suggests it is present on other similar machines...?
At first I thought that it was just on the Retina, but then I really looked into my external monitor and saw it — looking at it right now. It seems to me that when Always show tab bar is ON the space between Bookmarks bar and the tab is sloppy sliced.
The hDPI screen reveals the graphic irregularities from regular DPI screens without a problem.
The reason I posted this here is because I saw many people are having glitches, artifacts and flickers with Safari (on Retina).

  • Better Display Driver under Windows 8 than Windows 7 for MacBook Pro Retina?

Anyone happen to know if the display support for a MacBook Pro Retina is better under Windows 8 than it is under Windows 7?
Ideally, I would like to be able to run 2880x1800 at True Color as well as have the HDMI out fuction as a second display (maching the behaviour while booted under Max OS X 10.8).
Under Windows 7, the highest resolution that supports True Color is 1600x1200.  This would be okay if that setting did not distort the picture (everything is slightly squeezed).  At 2880x1800, the highest color depth is High Color (16-bit) which is, well, not something one can actually use if doing graphics work.  On my 27" iMac, 2680x1600 supports True Color as expected.
Also under Windows 7, the display connected via HDMI is not recognized.
I've contected both Apple care support and Microsoft support about this, but Apple referred me to Microsoft and Microsoft referrred me back to Apple.
    Thanks,
    Warren
P.S. Personally, I think it's rediculous to even attempt to do graphics work under Windows, but tell that to the Windwows based corporate world that I freelance in.

Yes, there is a better display driver for the MacBook Pro Retina while running Windows 7 Pro.
And, the answer is so obvious, that I feel a little silly having started this thread in the first place!
The Windows 7 Professional NVIDIA drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M card need to be installed manually by downloading them from NVIDIA directly.
If you need to do this on your MBPr Boot Camp volume, use this link:
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Then, set the pop-up menus based on your MBPr. [Mine were as follows: GeForce; GeForce 600M Series (Notbooks); GeForce GT 650M; Windows 7 64-bit: English (US)]
What tipped me off to this is that the CUDA drivers need to be downloaded manually on the Mac OS X side to take full advantage of raytracing in Adobe After Effects CS6 and CC.  As soon as I started to run that installer it dawned on me, "Hey, you probably need to install the drivers on the Boot Camp side as well."  And sure enough after doing so, I am able select all of the expected resolutions as well as run 2880 x 1800 at Millions of Colors (32-bit).
I guess I'm showing my nearly three decades worth of being a Mac user where I'm accustomed to having about everything needed included with the OS.

  • Did new Macbook Pro Retina 15" Support Miracast in Windows 8.1 with Bootcamp?

Have latest Macbook Pro Retina with Intel WLAN 802ac standart.
Want use Miracast with this. Is this possible?

    Yes...
I also just recently purchased a MacBook Pro retina 15 (mid-2014) with bootcamp (windows 8.1) installed.  While using my windows partition, the MBP seems to be running a bit hot, at least hotter than the OS X partition.
As for comparison, I have the 2012 MacBook Pro retina 13 with bootcamp (windows 8.1).  It does not get as hot as the 15, and in fact, I don't think it runs hotter than OS X...
Any thoughts?  Is it perhaps because I have the NVIVIDA dedicated graphics and in the windows partition, IRIS PRO isn't running?
