Macbook Pro running hot and freezing up

When I open the Macbook, iCloud pops up for me to login, but won't accept a login.  When I cancel it, the login box appears again.  When I cancel it a second time, it disappears.  Within several minutes of starting to use Safari or Chrome, the computer freezes and heats up.  It does not happen in Safe Boot.
I've reset SMC and PRAM.  Resetting SMC seemed to help for half a day then the problem resumed.
The most recent time it started to heat up on 2/24/15 at 09:52:50 PM, Activity Monitor showed that Google Chrome Helper was using CPU at 100%.  I followed Linc Davis' instructions with the following output in Console:
2/24/15 9:51:16.961 PM Google Chrome Helper[540]: CoreText CopyFontsForRequest received mig IPC error (FFFFFFFFFFFFFECC) from font server
2/24/15 9:53:18.279 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.apple.quicklook[575]) Endpoint has been activated through legacy launch(3) APIs. Please switch to XPC or bootstrap_check_in(): com.apple.quicklook
2/24/15 9:53:18.571 PM Console[217]: Failed to connect (_consoleX) outlet from (NSApplication) to (ConsoleX): missing setter or instance variable
I saved this to a TextEdit file, and doing so caused the computer to freeze so I could not run the Terminal diagnostic test suggested by Linc Davis in other posts.  I have run this diagnostic test at other times recently and can post one if that is helpful.

Done.  Here is the output.  In case this is helpful, I booted in normal mode and the cpu went to 100% on 9/26/14 at 21:24:13.  The computer shut itself down.  I rebooted in safe mode and ran this diagnostic.

  • MacBook Pro running slow and freezing--Installed OnyX

I am having problems with my MacBook Pro. For a while I was using Safari and getting the beachball A LOT. So, I switched to Chrome. For the past two days it has been running slow and freezing...when typing it would freeze and a few seconds later it would resume and the letters I typed would appear. After reading forums, I did the repair disk permissions. Nothing changed. I downloaded OnyX. After executing two tasks under cleaning..I believe System and User, it is already running better and hasn't froze once. My question is...which tasks should I perform on OnyX? I read somewhere that not all of them should be done. Like I said, I only did 2 and then stopped. I'm kind of over my head and don't want to screw anything up or do anything that doesn't need to be done. Any help would be appreciated.

  • HT2353 Macbook Pro running slow and freezing

So it just started yesterday running slow and freezing. I'm starting to get very frustrated. I research to see what could be the problem. I saw people suggesting that it could be the storage. My storage is 464.75 free out of 499.25. I just brought this computer last year on christmas. I thought it could be adblock but it never cause me problems but I paused the app and it still doesn't work. What is wrong? Should I restart the computer? If I do how can I backup my things? Also i'm really not a computer person so if you can describe to me the problem in layman terms that'll be great!
    OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4

    Hello,
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Macbook Pro running slow and freezing...please help?

Hi there everyone. I have a Macbook Pro that's a few years old and it started to experience some slowdown and freezing recently, which was even worse after installing Yosemite. It's mostly running slow on Safari but it seems that programs are freezing and taking way longer to open and close too. I'm not all that familiar with diagnosing these sorts of issues on Macs and was hopeful that someone could take a look at this for me? This is the EtreCheck report, and any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • 2011 MacBook Pro Runs slow and Freezes

I have a Macbook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 running 8 GB of RAM and it runs like a dog - freezing and crashing like a PC would - have to keep rebooting it. What is going on. Has Bill Gates poisoned the Apple?

NO - it takes forever to load finder (files and subfiles take ages to load) and most other programs and then just stays busy forever & eventually I have to force quit everything and reboot.
I ugraded to 10.7.3 this afternoon and it seems to have made a small improvement. Not much.

  • I have a new Macbook Pro running Mavericks and safari consistently freezes. It takes several 'return/enter' presses to get to the page I requested. I have seen other comments and replies on how to fix (clear cache, clear extensions/plug-ins), to no avail.

I have a new macbook pro running mavericks and only using Safari as my browser.  75% of my url requests are 'hung up' and freeze.  I have seen other posts and have tried to clear cache, reset safari, remove extensions, but to no avail.
    Any recommendations?

If it works in a new user account, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Safari 6 makes macbook pro run hot.

Hello, this is my first post in this forum.
I've noticed that often Safari makes macbook pro run hot. The fans speed up even though I don't have that many applications open and only a few Safari tabs open.
The only way to slow down the fan is to quit safari and open it. Did anyone else also notice this?
Also I have noticed that Safari doesn't display texts (especially in facebook chat) properly.

Try trashing the Safari cache more often ...
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select   Clear History  (also empties the cache)
Deselect the remaining boxes then click Reset.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that doesn't help, check Safari > Preferences > Extensions
If there are any installed, turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test again.
Emptying the cache and deleting history may also help the Facebook text issue.

macbook air runs hot and makes noise like processor running hard when connected to display - even when not actively using air book

You could use the free tool iStat Pro to see what changes when you connect your MBA to the display. Without doing anything the CPU pane should show a high percentage for "Idle". If the idle value is too low, launch the Activity Monitor and sort by CPU usage. There is a pane showing the different temperatures of your computer. Watch them for a few minutes after connecting the display.

  • My MacBook is running slow and freezes

My MacBook is running slow and freezes.

If this started happening without your having made any changes and without a warning of low disk space, then it's likely that the startup drive, or some other hardware component, is failing. Back up all data immediately, then make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.

    1. Create a folder in your Applications folder, call it: NOOKforMac
Once you've done this, copy the Nook app to this folder. This should allow the app to run on the 1st or possibly second attempt to launch it.
    2. Once you're done using the app always quit it by clicking on the X (red in some cases) button of the application window (upper left hand corner)
This seems to have resolved the issue and my guess is that somehow the .dmg volume path is somewhere hard coded in the app configuration.
Elsewhere in that thread, the administrator advises calling Customer Service Team at 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665) and choose option 2 for Digital Support.
    Good luck.
