MacBook Pro's built-in webcam compatibility with other websites?

Okay, excuse this seemingly vain and unimportant question, but I just got my MacBook Pro today and am so lost. Anyway, I was looking to take pictures with the built in webcam, just not necessarily in Photo Booth. I frequently use facebook and dailybooth.com
I tried using dailybooth and the area where you can usually see yourself was completely black and offered no options for like selecting a webcam. Taking a display picture on facebook said I needed to download flash player. Which I did. But now it continuously still tells me to download flash player.
I guess I'm just wondering if anyone who uses a MacBook pro uses their webcam to take pictures of themselves (vain sounding I know!) on other websites and if you can tell me how.
Thanks!

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can use Photobooth as a go between. Most such websites, including Facebook will load pictures off your computer. Photobooth allows you to drag pictures from its capture bottom bar onto the desktop for reuse elsewhere on your computer.

  • MacBook Pro issues connecting to Gmail, Facebook, and other websites

    Hi,
In the past week or so, I have had problems connecting to Gmail, Facebook, and other websites on my MacBook. When I try to open Gmail, I get the following message "Safari can't verify the identity of the website "accounts.google.com". The certificate for this website is invalid..." etc. It asks if I want to connect anyways, and I do, but then once I'm on Gmail, I can't use gchat and all of the buttons (delete, reply, etc) are blank. When I try to connect to Facebook, I just get a mostly blank page. I'll include screenshots in case that's helpful.
When I try using Firefox, it doesn't allow me to connect to either website at all.
I hope someone can help me with this issue!

On your iMac, open System Preferences > Date & Time  then select the Date & Time tab.
Make sure:  Set date and time automatically is selected.
Then select the Time Zone tab.
Make sure:  Set time zone automatically using current location is selected.

The cheap & easy way is to just drag the app to the Trash.
    If you want to get all of the associated files use an app deleting app like the free AppCleaner;
    http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/
Just drag an app and drop it on the AppCleaner icon in the Dock and it will find and present to you all the files it thinks are associated with the app. You can uncheck any that you want to keep and then let AppCleaner Trash the rest.

What type of headphones were you using? I have a set of Microssft headsets, with the built-in mic and connected via USB, and have no problems.

Connect to iTunes and restore. If you have difficulty, you may have to put the device into Recovery Mode. See the instructions in this support document. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

How do you connect you macbook pro to a Sony Bravia tv with a Belkin cord!?!?!?!?!?!?!? We know how to set it up, but what setting do you put your tv on!?!?!? we have tried everything, but it wont work!!!!!!!!! Well, I have connected my mbpr directly to a Sony Bravia using an hdmi cable, then set the tv to use the corresponding input port, and it works just fine. Have also connected via airplay -> appletv -> tv (with the last connection via an hdmi cable), which also works fine.

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPad but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPad with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.
also, there are PhoneView and iRip.

Unfortunately this means that there is a problem in the boot sector of your hard drive. It might be indicative of a fundamental corruption in the coding that allows your computer to boot your operating system from your hard drive. I had this problem twice and it resulted in me having to get a new hard drive and restore my data.
In other words, your computer can't talk to your operating system so you can't access your data.
Here is my advice: DON'T CALL APPLE TECH SUPPORT though they are kind and usually helpful it will take you an hour just to explain the situation and they will only tell you to do what I'm gonna say here.
First: Shut down your computer completely
Two: boot up while holding down the following keys: command, option, p, and r. The computer will reboot 3 times. This solution will likely fail so if you're frustrated skip to the next step.
Three: Boot up while holding down the option key. Select recovery drive. Select your default language. Select disk utility, click on Macintosh HD, and select "verify and repair volume." Likely the verification will produce some line like "unused node not erased." Or something like that. If anything using the words "node structure" comes up, you need a new hard drive.
If after verification and repairs you still can't boot I sincerely hope you have apple care because you will need a new hard drive. Set up an appointment to come in to the apple store, they will tell you to go and get data recovery, just ask them to give you the old hard drive. Unless you have an up to date backup in which case you can just restore from that. If you're lucky the only issue is with the boot sector which means that if you ask them to give you the old hard drive, you can buy an enclosure and you have effectively been given a free external hard drive. It still works to store data just not to load an operating system.
If you have a back up drive bring it to the apple store and they'll do the whole thing right there, it should take around an hour and a half but may take longer.
Hope this helps, it's annoying but it's your safest bet.
    All the best.

  • Pawtec UltraSlim External USB 3.0 on MacBook Pro 1,1 A1150 (Mid 2006) with 10.6.8 Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I've quite a problem with my brand new Pawtec UltraSlim External USB 3.0 BluRay Burner (it is build around the MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ265 burner).
Writer works great with MacBook Pro5,5 13" A1278 (mid 2009), but things are completely different on MacBook Pro 1,1 A1150 (Mid 2006). When I insert a CD or DVD, burner tries to read it but after second stops. This pattern repeats over and over again. The only effect of all these attempts is burner unpleasant sound. The same thing happens on the Windows XP installed as a bootcamp on this MacBook (Mid 2006). I tried to solve the problem in the Disc Utility, but it doesn't recognise the writer properly. The writer appears there only for a few seconds and then disappears. What is more, when it is visible, all the buttons (options) are disactive.
As I said, this problem only occurs on the older MacBook Pro 1,1 A1150 (Mid 2006) with 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
On the newer MacBook Pro 5,5 13" A1278 (mid 2009) also with 10.6.8 Snow Leopard everythng works fine. Even on Windows XP installed as bootcamp on the newer Mac, burner works with flying colours.
If the software (Operating systems) are the same, that makes clear that something must be wrong with the hardware. But is the difference between these two MacBooks so great, that it makes impossible to read simple CD/DVD from external drive?
I didn't find any drivers/software for this burner on Pawtec as well as on Matshita webpage. PatchBurn works only up to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger so this also isn't a solution.
Have You ever encounter this kind of problem? I will be gratefull for any ideas, solutions.
    Thank You
    Greetings
    Jacoszek

Anyone has any advice? Or the problem is just the age and incompatibility of the old MacBook Pro 1,1 A1150 (Mid 2006) and the best way will be to change it into something newer?

I got a new laptop (Macbook Pro) and my IPhone is synced with my previous laptop (which I no longer have). I've recorded dozens of very long (un-emailable) Voice Memos over the last few weeks and need to get them from my IPhone onto my new laptop.
    How do I do this?
(when I click on the Sync option I get the warning: "Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing songs and playlists on the iPhone will be replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library." I fear that if I click this I will lose all of my important Voice Memos as well)

Just to add to what ChrisJ4203 said.  You can sync them to your new computer using iTunes by selecting to Include Voice Memos on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  However, you still need to re-establish syncing with the new computer without iTunes erasing all the iTunes media from your phone (as the warning mentioned).
If you copy your entire iTunes folder (not just your music) from your old computer to your new one, along with other non-iTunes media you may be syncing with iTunes (such as contacts, calendars and any photos synced to your phone from your old computer) by using migration assistant of following one of these methods: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527, then when you sync again with your new computer it will recognize your phone and sync as it did before.  You will still have to authorize the new computer for any Apple IDs used to purchase from the iTunes and App stores (in iTunes>Store>Authorize this computer).
After that you can sync your voice memos to your computer as mentioned earlier.
If you want to archive your voice memos before you do anything with iTunes, you can use a 3rd party program such as PhoneView or Touch Copy.

Hi! I've got CS3 Design Standard - the actual disks and Software License certificate. It was installed on my laptop which crashed and could therefore not be uninstalled. I have now installed it on my new MacBook Pro, but cannot get it registered with the serial number. Is it because it wasn't uninstalled on the previous laptop? What to do now?? Thx!

Maybe this can help someone else...  I simply had to properly uninstall CS3 and reinstall it again after that.  I think that sorted it!  I also remember having a similar issue with Macs at work a couple of years back.  Not sure whether the same applies to CS5/CS6.  Here's a link on how to properly uninstall CS3 on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS.  I'm on OS X 10.9.2 but it worked just fine.  Remove Creative Suite 3 and CS3 products

Firstly, the HP printer must be connected to the ASUS' network. Then, simply connect your MBP to the network and your printer should be addable in Print & Fax in System Preferences.

    Hi Kurt,
The Mac IIci is not even powering on at all. Tried again with wih a tested power cable and no luck.
I think it's best that take  this issue to the Older Hardware Community. Not only did I see a fair number of replacement parts for the IIci avaiable online, but there also vintage external floppy drives as well. I'm not giving up.
Thank you for your time and interest in helping.
