Macbook Pro's internal speaker is not recognized

Hello, I've been using my macbook pro 15-inch(early 2011) for almost a year.
I usually connects external speakers to my macbook pro. However today my mac started not to recognize any speaker devices. As I disconnect my external speakers, my mac doesn't even recognize its internal speakers. When I go to my system preferences, it usually display the message 'No digital output available' or says that it recognizes external headphone EVEN when it's not connected to the macbook pro.  I always try putting my sound volume to the maximum but still no sounds come from the internal speakers. The mac constantly stop recognizing the internal headphone and switch to the external headphone automatically when nothing's connected to the mac. I have been searching through internet and rebooted my mac more than 3 times but this still happens. I am not even sure if this is software or hardware's problem. Can anyone identify what would be the cause of this problem?
I would appreciate if anyone answers my question.

Look into the headphone port. Can you see a red glow? If so, an out-of-spec analog headphone plug jammed the digital port's contacts in the "mute speakers" position.
The official fix is a new logic board but that;s overkill. Most people are able to free the contact by inserting a plug about 3/4ths of the way in the port ahd GENTLY moving the plug in the horizontal plane.
To prevent recurrences, stop inserting the external speaker plug "to the hilt." The tip-to-shoulder distance on the plug is too long for the precision port. Turn on an audo source, fire up the speakers and then start inserting the plug; when you hear sound in both channels, stop pushing.
In the image below. I have a pair of name-brand headphones attached to my MacBook Pro. Note the shoulder of the plug is NOT touching the computer case. This position gives normal sound and the plug is as secure in the jack as if I'd shoved it all the way in. And nothing is jammed.

  • My MacBook Pro's internal SuperDrive has stopped recognizing CDs/DVDs after Yosemite install

After upgrading to Yosemite, my MacBook Pro's (early 2011) internal SuperDrive has stopped recognizing CDs/DVDs after Yosemite install. It takes them in and will eject them with the keyboard button, but they will not mount. Disk Utility shows the SuperDrive and shows the inserted media, but will not mount the disk. That button is grayed out. Please help! I still have training libraries and music I access on such media. Thx!

UPDATE: I discovered some forum posts about a similar issue with Mavericks that recommended re-installing the system to fix the problem. I realized that I rarely restart my computer unless there's an update that requires it, and decided before undertaking a full re-install of Yosemite to simply restart my computer again. THIS WORKED! The SuperDrive is now mounting CDs and DVDs. Not sure what the issue was, but if anyone else has this issue I hope this will save you hours of frustration.

  • MacBook Pro 3,1   2007 disk not recognized at install

    Hi,
I installed SnowLeopard on two of my Macs without problem. Trying the same on my MacBook Pro 3,1 2007 with a 320GB drive gives me a headache. I erased the volume completely, started up from the install-DVD and clicked install. However, the installer did not recognize the volume and did not list it in the selection window. Even running DiskWarrior on the empty volume did not change things. Several attempts to no avail.
The earlier system was 10.5.8 with the latest updates.
I also notice that the Installer DVD takes a long time to start up and to initialize the installer.
Does anybody have an idea why the volume would not be recognized?

Hi donv: I repartitioned, rechecked with DU, even ran a hardware test, still not recognizing the HDD from within the (family pack) installer.
Restoring 10.5.8 works and the machine boots just fine. I am at a loss.
The disk is a WDC WD3200BEVT-22ZCT0. Could the disk be a problem? A year ago a certified technician replaced the original disk with this one.

  • MacBook Pro 5,1 - new HD not recognized

    hi,
2 weeks ago suddenly my MacBook Pro (5,1) started giving signs of an HD related disease. having a good backup (phew!) I simply ordered a new Western Digital Blue Scorpio 500Gb (same size I already had) and replaced it.
Nope! When I restarted my MBP, the new HD didn't show up in Disk Utility under Snow Leopard.
I browsed various resources, then put the new HD in an external box and reformatted it. then I put it IN  the MacBook Pro, but without success.
presently I am using my MBP from an external HD (not really confortable) and apparently NO other HD but the original one (Hitachi 500Gb) is recognized by Disk Utility!!
It's a very strange AND frustrating issue I never had before. The original HD is faulty (fail to format), but will be recognized by DU, the new Western Digital Blue Scorpio and a Samsung (1Tb) will not.
    Any hint?
    thanks,
    Luca

  • Macbook Pro 15" mid 2009 battery not recognized

    Hi all.
I am trying to figure out what happened here. I had a problem with my trackpad. It didn't respond well, so I followed a tutorial on how to fix it by re-adjusting the tension screw for it.
In order to reach the trackpad, I had to disconnect the battery. All turned out well, I fixed the trackpad and was super happy, but when I started the computer again, I got an X over the battery icon, saying "No Batteries Available".
I went through the support forum and saw that it might be solved by doing a SMC reset. I did that by shutting down the computer and then pressing Shift-Ctrl-Option keys together while pressing the Power button and then starting the computer again. That didn't work so I tried the method where you have to disconnect the battery and then holding down the Power button for 5 seconds before connecting the battery again and starting up the computer. That didn't work either.
Does anyone know what the next step might be?

  • I am getting no sound on my macbook pro. The sound does not play when I plug in headphones either.  I have tried making it louder quieter, restarting my computer, HELP!

I am getting no sound on my macbook pro. The sound does not play when I plug in headphones either.  I have tried making it louder quieter, restarting my computer, HELP!

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and anything is plugged in, unplug it before putting the system to sleep.
    3. If you've installed something called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and reboot. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. If you've installed an equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and reboot.
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Reboot and test.
    9. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    10. Reset the NVRAM.
    11. Reset the SMC.
    12. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data. For a possible shortcut, see this thread.
    13. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • How to Make my Macbook Pro's internal HDD external, when I get a SSD?

Hey, I know there are other posts on what enclosure you can use and if it's a possibility, but I haven't seen any that tell me how I get OS X on the SSD without a disc? Can I download the installer on a flash drive somehow? Also, I am wondering if this really is a good idea, using my Macbook Pro's HDD for a backup HDD, instead of buying one? I have no use for it anyway, if and when I get a new SSD. BTW, the HDD is the upgraded factory 500gb 7200rpm. Also, do you think it's smarter to have a bigger backup drive than internal drive? In other words, I would like to get a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD, and my current HDD is only 500GB.... I am a musician and need a lot of storage for musical purposes. I use Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro X, Ableton Live 9, Office, and Photoshop.... My Macbook Pro is a Late 2011 Macbook Pro 15.4' 2.2ghz quad core i7 8gb RAM. Oh yeah and a mother thing is, I think I should get an enclosure that has a thunderbolt port with usb, what are your thoughts?

How to Make my Macbook Pro's internal HDD external, when I get a SSD?
Get an externel enclosure at the same time.
    You can order from OWC
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
Put the SSD in the externel enclosure and use something like Carbon Copy Cloner,  to clone the internal drive and all it content to the SSD.  Then swap them out.
Always good to have more than one backup.

  • How can I sync my iPad 2 with my new MacBook Pro when it is already synced with my old MacBook? I am getting a message on the new MacBook Pro that says I am not allowed to sync the iPad 2 because it is synced to another iTunes library.

How can I sync my iPad 2 with my new MacBook Pro when it is already synced with my old MacBook? I am getting a message on the new MacBook Pro that says I am not allowed to sync the iPad 2 because it is synced to another iTunes library.

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPad but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPad with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.
also, there are PhoneView and iRip.

The seller should have given you the original disk so that you can reinstall as needed. But it likely was a single-user license (which really means single computer) so you can only have a copy on one computer at a time. If the seller didn't give you the disk he is probably still using the software on his new Mac. Your best option to get any of the iWork apps to use in OS X 10.6.6 or later is through the Mac App Store. You can then install them on any Mac you have that has access to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID.

  • HT4864 Thank you! This may sound lame but are these instructions for the blackberry? I'm receiving iCloud emails without problems on my MacBook Pro and I'd rather not mess w/ settings there.

You don't need to start a new thread to continue a conversation, you can just tack onto the original one. The settings I referred you to are for the Blackberry, since that's the device which is not receiving mail: anything which is working can be left alone.
