Macbook Pro's iSight stopped working.

Hey there,
I just got a new MacBook Pro about a week ago. The iSight built in web-cam has been working fine for the past few weeks. I haven't used it in about a week now, and when I tried loading it up in iChat, Photo Booth, and Skype (all on the Apple OS), it doesn't detect it. I restarted the computer in windows xp(I have bootcamp), and Windows doesn't detect it at well. In the system utilites on the mac os it doesn't show up under USB devices either.
So far I've tried taht restart where you unplug the battery and AC and hold the power down for five seconds, but that hasn't worked. I also tried to re-install Quicktime just in case that did something, but it didn't.
Since it isn't showing up in either Windows or Mac, should I assume it got unplugged or something and take it to the Mac store? It's under warrenty, right? Does anyone know if it's an easy fix? I have finals coming up and will need my computer.
Thanks in advance.

With all you have tried, you are right to be suspicious of the hardware.
To eliminate possibility of hardware conflicts, test with no other AV or USB peripherals connected. If the relevant suggestions from Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight don't then fix your problem, contact the retailer from whom you bought, Apple, or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
The service technicians will be able to answer your warranty question and tell you how long he will need to keep it for repairs. Depending on your needs, the difficulty of the problem, and your retailer's service and exchange policies on such a new Mac, you may decide to schedule the repairs at a later date.
To protect your important info, be sure to backup BEFORE you take your Mac for service.

  • My MacBook Pro mid 2012 stopped working completely.

It was fully charged, and I was on battery, and all of a sudden it stopped working. The display went black, and powering on doesn't work. LEDs don't light up after pressing the charge indicator button even though I am sure it is (almost) fully charged.
I tried connecting the power adaptor and the green LED doesn't glow. There seems to be some problem with my MacBook since my charger is working fine with other MacBooks of my friends.
Connecting another working adapter, and powering on didn't work either. It has been 7 months since I brought my MacBook, and I am running Mavericks. I have contacted the support, but they say I have to take it to the store.
Unfortunately, there are no Apple stores nearby my current location, and nearby ones are like 5 hours away from here.
So, I wanted to ask - Am I missing something? Is there something I can try now?

    Hello Bharadwaj6,
Try resetting SMC by following the below Method.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • The Logic Board of my MacBook Pro Retina Display stopped working.

I purchased my MacBook Pro Retina Display 13 months ago. Barring a few errors the computer functioned beautifully, and I maintained it with the care it deserved. On Wednesday, last week, the laptop ceased to work completely. It wouldn't start, or charge. On submitting it for repair, I was informed that the logic board failed. Since its warranty lapsed a month ago, $1050 is required for its replacement. That outrageous amount is more than half of what I paid initially for the laptop. The service provider would not agree to any concession, or plea.
For an Apple enthusiast, it is very disheartening to learn that its foremost product stops operating in this manner. I am a high school senior, who has accustomed himself to his computer, and cannot at this time purchase a new laptop, let alone a Windows laptop. With college admission deadlines fast approaching, I solicit your help and suggestions, very desparately.

As much as it will suck to hear this answer, there really is no solution. Because the computer is now out of warranty, you have to pay the full $1050 to get the logic board replaced. I know this is a large sum of money, but you have to remember that the logic board includes the CPU, Graphics Card and RAM, all soldered onto the board. You're paying to replace all of the most expensive components of your computer, even if only one of them failed.
So, long story short, you'll have to either pay to replace the logic board, because it's out of warranty, or buy a new computer.

  • Macbook Pro trackpad partly stops working after 1 touch

I have a very strange problem with the trackpad on my macbook pro (late 2008, fully updated, SSD, 4Gb).
When a mouse is used all is fine. WHen I touch the trackpad ONCE, it will stop working correctly, it will:
    - not detect a single click
    - will detect a doucle click
    - mouse moving (one or two fingers) no problem
IF the SMC is reset (unplug/remove battery/hold power button 5 sec/put battery back/ plug in power/start up)
all is ok, BUT after 1 time use the trackpad the same appears.....
    I have sofar tried:
    - SMC (described)
    - PRAM reset
    - disk utility (recover/fault detect)
    - restore from time machine
    - Yasu
nothing new is configured, the only thing i can imagine is that I moved the mac, while it was running, from its place and walked away from the place were the connected bluetooth mouse was located.....
    anyone any clue?

    Tx Ogelthorp,
But this did not work; one strange observation:
While not touching the trackpad from start after reset it works with a seperate mouse as it should.
Then one touch on the trackpad and it is ignoring the single click BUT SO IS THE MOUSE?
so no hardware fault I guess as it is exactly repeatable...
    any other ideas?
    gr/d

  • Macbook Pro - internet suddenly stopped working.

The wifi on all the other devices in the house works fine, except on my Macbook Pro.
I was browsing the internet this morning, clicking around on Facebook and the like when - poof! No more internet.
I have tried everything that google says to try. Airport shows a full  signal. Turned everything off and on again repeatedly. Nothing will  connect on my computer - no Skype, no Firefox, no Safari.
When I open Network Preferences, Airport is green and connected, and yet  there is no internet to be had. Proxies are all unchecked. One solution  said to check the box by "Automatic Proxy Config" - tried that, not  only did it not work, it unchecks itself upon restart.
Tried "pinging" stuff through Network Utility, as one website suggested.  Not sure what was supposed to happen when I did that, but it "seemed to  ping fine", I suppose. No error messages or anything like that.
Anyways, I want to puke because of how frustrated I am. Please help!

  • MacBook Pro Charger - Intermittantly Stops Working

    Hi All,
I have had my macbook pro now for just over a year and unlucky for me im 20 days out of my 1 year warrenty and now not entitle to upgrade to apple care because of this when i phoned techincal support
The macbook pro charger is working intermittantly so it isnt completely dead.
if i wiggle it around or sit the cables just right it will work but it isnt working 1005 off the time like it used to.
I have a 2010 macbook pro with the L shape charger. I have manager to get another old style T shape charger off my friend which works perfectly with my macbook pro but will this harm my battery life because im using an "older" charger? but its brand new. also do you think its worth going into my local apple store in milton keynes to see if they can help me at all? as my gripe is you pay £1000 for a laptop and one year on the charger brakes. And i do look after my equipment. Its not like i throw it about or mistreat it.
I think it could of happened early if i used it more.
    Is this a common fault?
    Thanks
    Daniel

If you have bought AppleCare Extended Warranty, MBP is in warranty for 3years
    from the date of purchase.
Best thing to do, is to take the MBP to the Apple store for evaluation and possible repair / replacement.
    Try Reset SMC.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • MacBook Pro Retina sound stopped working unless I put in and remove my headphones

I have a MacBook Pro Retina and the audio only works if I plug in my headphones and then pull them out. I hear the ding when I turn the computer on but nothing else once it's booted. Does anyone else have this issue? I confirmed that my sound settings are correct.

If you see a red light in the audio output port, then the headphones will be receiving the audio signal.  When you insert and pullout your headphones you are probably tripping an internal switch that was stuck and now enables the sound to come from the internal speakers.  This is a normal solution to that problem, but really should not occur.  A trip to the Apple store genius bar might be a good idea.  You still must be within the warranty period.
    Ciao/

  • MacBook Pro Right Speaker Stopped Working

    Hi,
I've had a 15.4" 2.4 Ghz MacBook Pro for about three weeks now, and I've been loving it. Everything's great, especially after switching from a 3.5 year old dell. About 3 days ago though, I was listening to music, and paused it when I went to grab a snack. I came back about 10 min. later and found that my right speaker was not working. No sound whatsoever. My left speaker is perfectly fine, no problems with that. I tested everything. I played with speaker balance, I changed and unchanged audio midi setup preferences, restarted, everything. Once when I restarted the speakers were fine, even the right one. But when I started playing music, I heard the right speaker die. I don't know what's wrong.
I plan on taking it to the Apple Store, but I just want to know whether something like this has happened to anyone else, and whether there's some sort of solution to this.
I have the AppleCare Protection plan, and am still under the 90 day warranty, so I think I should be fine. Thanks!

An intermittent problem like this sounds like a hardware failure to me. Could be a loose wire inside or a poor solder joint. Either way, taking it in to Apple is the right call.

  • I cannot print wirelessly to an Epson 810 from a MacBook Pro (2010). Stopped working with version 4 and has not worked since. Prints fine to Safari, Chrome, and all other programs. Resetting didn't help.

Prints fine with other browsers and programs. Works with my wife's MacBook Pro.

Took it to Apple Genius, they told me it was my memory (incompatible)
Believe the first one.  No one RAM test will reliably indicate RAM is bad.   Once indicated, it has to be replaced.
You have to get RAM made for the mid 2012 13" MacBook Pro.    Just because it says it 4GB of 1600MHz DDR3 memory does not mean it is compatible with your Mac.  You have to buy RAM for Macs with lifetime warranty, that is not ValueRAM, and says the model and its time frame within the year that it was released, and its model number when buying RAM.  Both http://www.macsales.com/ (OWC) and http://www.crucial.com/ sell RAM in that means of attributing what kind of RAM it is.
I ran an internet-based free diagnostic tool and it showed that my hard drive did have bad parts (corrupted? possible to fix or not?) and it was acting irregularly...
What tool?  Some are known to damage software components of drives.  Especially any that address system cache.

  • Macbook pro USB ports stopped working

After downloading the new OS (and the updates), my USB ports have stopped working. I've tried a variety of resets (resetting the PRAM, GMC reset, resetting the computer, etc.). One of the USB ports would read the usb for a wireless mouse (and only that wireless mouse, no flash drives or ipod cables), but that stopped working as well.
What else is there to do? The system is only a year old. I've never had a problem concerning usb ports on other computers, especially after a software upgrade.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I have had a similar problem since upgrading to Lion 10.7.3. I have a MacPro and all was going well. However, now I have huge problems with my USB ports. Some are recognized some of the time if I unplug then replug, but not in a reliable manner. This applies to USB ports at both the front and back of my computer. My printer won't work or my mouse won't work (but at times I can get one or the other), but any external USB drives (including camera's) and my iPhone are not recognized. Obviously very frustrating. Other issues that seem to have occured are recognition of Outlook for Mac, so have reverted to MacMail (not as good, but working).
Looking through a variety of threads, this issue isn't that new going back to at least July of 2011 (http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/os-x-operating-system/245665-os-x-lion-will-not -read-external-hard-drives-usb-flash-drives.html).
I am also involved in long-running saga with "upgrade" from MobileMe to iCloud that has led to many individuals (including myself) losing "push" email capability despite 9 months and 35 pages worth of problems on the Apple Support site (https://discussions.apple.com/message/18033340?ac_cid=142432#18033340).
Having been an Apple user since 1988 it is ironic that as it becomes more popular it becomes increasingly less reliable.
Does anyone have any solutions for the USB problem that are reliable?
