Macbook Pro says no battery, fans won't turn off

I just tried resetting the SMC and when I did the menu bar battery icon now says there is no battery and the fans will not turn off.
How can I fix this?

Spilled wine on MacBook Pro ... Now won't turn on

I Spilled wine on my Macbook pro keyboard and now it will not turn on , or charge . It just makes 3 consecutive beeps in a row none stop . What should I do ?
I Dried the keyboard and notebook right away and haven't used it for 3 days it still doing the same thing .

Take it in for service ASAP and pray for it. The repair will be expensive.

Mac Mini fan won't turn off (only while powered on)

Unlike some stories i've read while crawling around the internet trying to solve MY problem, it's not that my fan won't shut off EVER. The fan shuts down when i put it in sleep mode or shut down the Mini. No problems there. But while the computer is in operation, the fan runs non-stop.
It wasn't always like this. In the 2.5 years i've had my Intel Mac Mini, it has more and more frequently employed the fan. As of the last couple months, the fan is now in continuous use, as long as the computer is in operation. In addition, all the programs take much longer to load, and i'm dealing with programs crashing (Firefox & Safari far more than anything), Bluetooth not functioning, and the front light on my Mini is out.
As for the fan, the Mini is getting plenty of breathing room...even more than it had before the problem. I also have 22GB left on my Mini's hard disk.
Are all these problems related? Am i really just working on my last thruster here? Is my dilitium crystal just about dead? Is a warp core breach imminent? I do not have AppleCare, and i don't know if the Apple Store would look at it for free if i brought it in. Any help (no matter how small) would be greatly appreciated.
MY STUFF:
Mac Mini - 1.66 Intel Core Duo, 2G 667 HHz DDR2 SDRAM
Iomega MiniMax 1TB external HD (for audio/video files)
Iomega Minimax 1TB external HD (for Time Machine)
OSX 10.5.6

When you start your mini from cold (after at least an hour powered down) does the fan spin up to full speed immediately, or does it start out normally and then speed up after a few minutes or so? Did you have the system open for any reason just before this behavior started?
If you had the system open, it might be something as simple as the fan control cable that is not connected. When disconnected, the fan will run at full speed all the time.
It the fan runs at full speed almost immediately from cold, then it would suggest one of two things: either the system is suffering from something like a loose heatsink, or there is an errant process running that is putting the system under heavy load. You can check that by opening Activity Monitor (in Applications>Utilities) at looking to see if the CPU load is consistently high. If it is, look for a process that is causing it.
If the fan runs quietly at first, and then speeds up, after a few minutes, then it does seem likely to be a heating issue. Aside from making sure the vents around the base and on the back are clear by using a good vacuum cleaner, it's possible there is enough debris inside to obstruct the airflow. If you've opened up the system previously for any reason, now might be a good time to do so again, for a quick inspection and clean out.
I would also perform an SMC reset if you have not already done so:
To reset the SMC on an Intel mini:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
-Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.
And to ensure you are not suffering from a range of broad 'tuning' type issues, download a copy of YASU (http://jimmitchelldesign.com/projects/yasu/) and run all tasks. This clears cache files, resets logs files, updates prebinding, performs a permission repair and a few other tasks. After the reboot (which will be slower than usual) your system should run a little better.

You can make an appointment at the 'genius Bar' of your local Apple store - they will look at your system for free, and help with a diagnosis. What they generally wont do without charging for it is anything that involves opening the system up. However, it's worth paying them a visit for a bit of hands on work!

I have a 2008 macbook pro with lion. My computer will go to sleep and the fan will stay on or it won't go to sleep at all and the fan still goes at a very high speed.

Fans won't turn off after Macbook Pro is shut down

I am posting on behalf of a friend on mine. He has a 1st Gen Macbook Pro Core Duo and whenever he shuts the machine down and the magsafe is still connected the fans keep running even though the machine is off. If he unplugs the magsafe adapter the fans stop but if he plug it back in they start again.
I have tried resetting the PMU/SMU, NVRAM/PRAM and it is still having the problem. He is running 10.4.11 and I checked to see if he had all the latest firmware updates and he does. I even tried re-installing them but it said your machine doesn't need this update.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My Macbook Pro went crazy and now won't turn on!

My macbook pro (that is barely 1 year old) wont turn on - I take very good care of it and it has been functioning perfectly fine. I uploaded some pictures to my laptop (which already has thousands of pictures) and my laptop started lagging and freezing and eventually just randomly turned off. After trying to turn it back on it wasnt responding so I left it over night. The next day I turned it back on and it loaded my desktop picture but none of my desktop icons were visible and not even the top bar or the scrolly bar and the spinning rainbow ball was there for half an hour. After a while I tried restarting - didnt work, tried closing the lid and opening it and the top bar appeared after a while but still nothing else. I tried starting it in safe mode and my desktop image was gone but the desktop icons slowly appeared and it was apparent that everything was there and nothing was lost - but I couldnt open anything because it kept freezing and then after half an hour returned to idleness and had not opened anything. After finally leaving it I decided to restart it one last time and it switched off after freezing for another half an hour but now when I try to turn it on (in anyway) it loads the light blue background with the apple and the spinning loading icon thing - and after 10 minutes just switches off - refuses to turn on at all... what to do? The battery is fine, it had been charging fine and my laptop is given to me by my university which means if I mess it up (or people who think they know what they're doing in the apple store mess it up) I have to pay. As of now I am on vacation and really need to use it but dont know what to do right now. Help?

Try running Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc>restart>immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”)>at first screen select the language and click Continue> click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar>open Disk Utility>select your HD in the panel on the left side>click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself).

Macbook Pro Retina 15 late 2013 won't turn on after being sleep

I've been having the an issue with my macbook pro retina 15 late 2013 that I bought 2 weeks ago. After a long time of being slept when I try to turn it on, it won't. I press the power button several times and nothing happens, after a long time of trying then it turns on. and I get the message that the machine turn off because of an error but nothing else. I think that's not ok for such an expensive laptop. I had the first version of the macbook pro retina display and never had an issue like this even though I install a lot of apps from app store and third party apps also. I was running parallels with 3 microsoft windows os and never had an issue like this. In this case I haven't installed anything on my new macbook pro besides parallels and the windows seven os. So I don't know if I should take it to the apple store maybe they could change it for another one I don't know.
Does anyone have the same problem?

Well I have this problem too, do you get a message saying 'an error has occured please press a button to restart' or something similar when you just brosing the internet or watching a movie.
P.S I use safari and QT.

MacBook Pro (Late 2008) Screen Backlight won't turn on

Yesterday, I pulled out my MBP and started it up. The screen was "black," and at first I thought that it was totally dead, but a closer inspection revealed that the display was working, but the backlight wasn't turning on. I restarted, and the backlight came up to half brightness (even though the brightness adjustment buttons would say it was at full). A second restart would bring it up to full brightness, and it would run fine from there (unless it had to shut down again). This double-restart fix worked for about a day.
Finally, it gave out. (The last thing I did before it totally died was turn down the brightness; when I got to about 4 bars, the backlight totally turned off and stayed that way.)
I've tried restarting about 50 times, resetting PRAM, and resetting the SMC. So far, none of it has made a bit of difference. The computer is running fine (I can see the screen if I point a flashlight at it), but the backlight remains definitively off.
This computer has run pretty smoothly since I got it; I haven't had any problems with Lion since it installed, and the only thing that I did between the last time I shut it down and discovering this problem was go through airport security (which I've done many times before with this computer in tow).
If anyone has had a similar problem, or a solution, I would love to hear it.

It looks like you've covered everything you need to do. It could be any number of things, but logic board seems the most likely. Not a cheap repair.
Don't take my word for this. Bring your MBP to your local Apple Store/Genius Bar and have them take a look at it. They won't repair anything, but they might be eliminate a few possibilities.
I just hope you post the results of your visit, in case others have a similar problem in the future!

Battery Indicator - won't turn off!!!

Basically, my iPod won't/can't turn off. The little battery in the top right always has a little lightening bolt or plug in it, no matter if the iPod is plugged in or not. The obvious effect is that the battery runs down when I'm not "using" my iPod. I've restored, reset, updated, installed 1.1, uninstalled 1.1 and reinstalled 1.0, etc. I haven't seen anything about this on the site or elsewhere. I'm hoping there's a solution where I don't have to sent my iPod away but it's appearing less and less likely...Please help!

Several people have had this problem in the last few days. I don't recall any of those cases being solved.
Nevertheless, try a reset, which is the equivalent of a reboot and won't affect your data. I don't think it'll work, but you lose nothing and it's non-risky.
Reset your iPod.
1) Slide the lock button to ON.
2) Slide the lock button to OFF.
3) Press 'menu' and 'centre' button together for several seconds.
4) Follow the instructions.

My MBP glitched and froze the other day, so I turned it off and turned it back on and it was fine.
