Macbook Pro screen has dim light beams

On boot up, my Macook Pro's screen appears to have light beams shinning up from the bottom .. as if every other light beam is off causing the overall screen brightness to be dimmer than normal. This only happens about every third boot up so I doubt it is

  • Macbook Pro charger has dim green light

My macbook pro (late 2009) model has a dim green light on the charger. I took the back panel off, unplugged the battery from the motherboard, plugged in the charger, the turn on chime sounded. I unplugged the charger, plugged the battery back in and the computer came back on.
My problem is that its sitting on a 0% charge and the charger still has a dim green light! Help!!!

    Hello PcktRckt37,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I'd like you to reset the SMC as is outlined in the article below to try and resolve this issue of your battery not charging correctly.

  • Macbook Pro screen and keyboard lights problems

Hi there, I have a macbook pro 15'' late 2011. Lately I realised that the screen does not dim when in a dark room and the keyboard lights do not work either. The keyboard keys work for dimming and lighting the screen, but it does not happen automatically. As for the keyboard lights, pressing the F5 and F6 buttons brings up the image of keyboard lights and they seem to be increasing and decreasing, but in fact nothing happens and the keyboard remains without any lights.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks without lighted keyboards that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • My 2008 MacBook Pro screen has now got interference across the whole screen. It looks similar to a pre-cable interference from bad reception. What is the problem here?

My 2008 MacBook Pro has interference across the full screen. It looks similar to a pre-cable TV screen with bad reception. Any idea of what the problem might be?

Took it to the Apple Store, they determined it's my screen that's messed up (they connected to another monitor, and since the lines didn't mirror onto the monitor it couldn't have been my GPU making the lines but rather the screen itself), so not connected to my wifi issue or a potential logic board issue, so I'm going to get my screen, wifi card, and trackpad (it's been failing too but that wasn't urgent at all) replaced for $330 using their flat-rate repair service which is much better than I imagined in terms of price.

  • My 2013 15" retina macbook pro screen has a yellow tint, should i ask for a replacement?

So yesterday i got my retina macbook pro 15 " and right away i noticed my worst fear ( since i previously had read some similar stories) my screen has a noticeable yellow tint specially on white tones, websites have a "newspaper look " to them, since i bought this computer because im starting web design in university in a couple of months i would say i'm pretty much ******, people say i shoud just calibrate it, but most people dont calibrate their screen, so it would be  a mess, my work would look good on my computer but ****** on other's people computer
I'm very surprised because i thought this issue only affected the initial batch of retina macbook pros, but i checked my serial online and my computer was made in January 2013 so its quite new, the panel is a Samsung "LSN154YL01001.
I have read that usually LG panels don't suffer as much from the yellow tint but they suffered from Image retention, is it stil like this? what do you think i should do should i keep this computer with the samsung screen or get apple to give me a new one hopefully with a LG panel or at least a samsung without yellow tint

Actually MOST People that work in all parts of the Design field DO Calibrate their screens. It is the only way to make sure what you are looking at on your computer screen will be the same on other design professionals screens and to the general public.
Wherever you got the notion that Design professionals and or design schools of all types don't calibrate their screens is completely incorrect.
So it is up to you whether you calibrate or not and or to return that Retina for one that has a better color balanced screen from the start. Along with that the new unit you get may have other problems as the Retina models are plagued with random problems. The screens only be one of them.

  • Macbook pro screen and keyboard light turns off

    Hello everyone,
I have an issue with my macbook pro, if im sitting at a table and i glide my laptop slightly my screen and keyboard light goes off and i cant see anything.
I have to turn it left or right to try and get it back on.....same thing if i close my computer and reopen it again it wont wake up from sleep mode.
anyone else having a similer issue? is this software related?

That seems like a loose or failing cable.
You could try a SMC reset:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964  to elimate the controller.
    Genius reservation http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
    check warranty https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
You could try running the Apple HArdware Test, not always definitive however.  If it shows an error code report back.

  • My Macbook Pro screen has failed. [2007] part of the bad group of screens. What are my options here?

    Hello,
Would appreciate any suggestions regarding replacement of my Macbook Pro 4.1 screen.
It has become blurred and I am told Apple no longer supplys parts for this model.
    Thank you

OK, so I think I solved my issue.  It was caused by the system not going to sleep (The screensaver thing was a dead end).
When I ran the console app pmset, I got something like this:
    ➜  ~  pmset -g assertions
    12-06-29 9:11:06 AM EDT
    Assertion status system-wide:
       PreventUserIdleDisplaySleep             0
       CPUBoundAssertion                       0
       DisableInflow                           0
       ChargeInhibit                           0
       PreventSystemSleep                      1
       PreventUserIdleSystemSleep              0
       ExternalMedia                           0
       DisableLowPowerBatteryWarnings          0
       EnableIdleSleep                         1
       NoRealPowerSources_debug                0
       UserIsActive                            0
       ApplePushServiceTask                    0
The process that was causing PreventSystemSleep to be 1 was "org.cups.cupsd" which is the print service.  So I checked all my printers, one of them was "In Use".  When I opened it, there weren't any jobs listed.  I went through the options and selected Jobs > Show Everyone's Jobs and sure enough there was a job there.  I deleted it and everything seems to work now.
The odd thing is that print job was probably from my other account which didn't seem to have this screen problem.  Anyway, I hope this helps anyone out there....

  • MacBook Pro screen has a strange oily looking spot

I recently bought a MacBook Pro laptop sometime in April. I'm not sure exactly what model it is, but it has the Thunderbolt port and a backlit keyboard. It is a thirteen inch screen. I recently noticed something strange - The laptop was developing an odd spot in the middle of the screen, similar to what you might see when you press your finger on it. After a couple days, I noticed that it had spread, and there was now an oily looking spot, as if there was oil on the screen, but it was behind the display. It's not as noticeable when the screen is lit up, but it stands out like a sore thumb when the screen is off. I can't think of anything that would have caused this except that I recently repaired the screen at iResQ, and I also carry it back and forth to school with me every day. When it is in my backpack, it is inside a plastic hard shelled outer case and a soft carrying case. I'm not sure what caused this, but any help in fixing it would be greatly appreciated!
tl;dr MBP screen has weird oily spot/pressure marks.

If the company that did the repair work was an authorized Apple service provider and the work they did was not necessitated by accidental damage to the computer, your warranty and AppleCare coverage may still be in effect. If they aren't an authorized service provider, the warranty and AppleCare are gone, and if the work they did was necessitated by damage that you did to the machine, the warranty and AppleCare may be gone even if they are an authorized provider. The link tool has provided above to check on your warranty coverage won't tell you if your warranty has been voided unless Apple has already made that detemination in an inspection of the machine. If Apple hasn't seen it yet, they may decide you've voided the warranty, overruling what the web link has told you iin the absence of concrete information.
My guess is that you are among those who imagine a hard plastic shell protects your MBP a whole lot better than it does. Take the shell off your machine's display and lay it concave-side-down on a tabletop, then press gently on the center of it with a fingertip. It's not very stiff at all, is it? Well, that's all the stiffness it adds to your display back panel, which is none too stiff itself (though much more so than the plastic wrapper is). And a padded carrying case adds no stiffness at all. So the middle of your MBP's display has essentially no protection against pressure or impacts when it's in your backpack, and if you stuff the backpack full of other junk in such a way that pressure is applied to the back of your display, you may crush the center of the LCD panel. I suspect that's exactly what has happened to cause your blotch, and if so, that won't be covered even if you still have a warranty.

  • Macbook pro screen has black and white squares

I have an older 2007 15" MacBook Pro. I turned it on one day and, although the computer made the same sounds it always does when it is booting up, the screen showed these very depressing black and white squares, and the rest of the pixes around these blocks (half black, half white)  were very scrambled.  A few days later the computer booted up completely normally, but now it is back to the crazy screen.
Does anyone know what this problem may be? I am currently in Thailand and am wondering if someone can help me figure out what problem this most likely is so I can decide how much an appropriate repair should cost.
    Thanks so much!

Hi if the device is a Macbook pro 15 inch mid 2010 model then there might be a chance of replacement of MLB for NVDIA graphic problem, please contact an apple authorised service provider for more details about this issue and you may get a free replacement programme for this MLB also all the best.....

  • PICTURE - MacBook Pro Screen Has Bright Line Across Midde.

I just noticed this across the middle of my MBP screen whenever I have a dark background. These pixels can't seem to go black.
Has anyone ever heard or seen something like this?

This is not normal. You should contact apple care so that they can take care. Maybe you have the time to post this issue to the thread about the bad quality of the mbp displays so that the others can compare and maby apple aknowledges the quality of this issue. Here's the link.

  • My macbook pro screen has cracked.

How can I get a replacement screen in Abuja, Nigeria. Though its working now, I want to change it before it grow worse.

If you do still have a warranty i would try to go to an apple store and try to get it fixed, if it is not cover under any apple care plan or does not have a warrenty, then i would try to fix it as a DIY (do it your self) project. you can find replacement screens on eBay or other bidding sites... wish you luck.

    Hi,

Please help I am going out my mind with this thing :(
    Thanks x jade

This can be used to boot the machine and delelte enough files to get it to boot normally.
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Read about storage drive so you can store your extra stuff.
    Most commonly used backup methods
Also here to see how a full boot drive slows the machine down
    Why is my computer slow?

  • Macbook pro screen dims after waking from sleep?

Does anyone know why my macbook pro screen dims when waking from sleep or waking from my screen saver? I can't get it to stop doing this. Thanks.

It sounds like I have the same thing happening. It's more like the colors are washed out, like there is less contrast. I have a hot corner set up for my screen saver. Once I activate the screen saver for a second and then deactivate it, the Macbook screen goes back to normal. I have a 30" Samsung 305T monitor set up as a second (main) screen for when I'm working at home, which is most of the time. I haven't had it unplugged from the Macbook since this started, so I don't know if it happens by itself. I do know that the Samsung looks fine when waking up from the screen saver at the same time.
I tried to find others with this problem in this forum, but got tired of looking through all the other posts that had nothing to do with this problem.
    Can anyone help us?
