MacBook Pro screen went black.  Power chord light not illuminated.

i heard there was a trick of pushing two keys to get this back up and running.   Previously I tried it once on the computer and once on the phone.  They both worked, but haven'e seen that tip online this time and can't remember trick.  Help, please

Please help! I can't get my screen to turn back on. It just stays black when I turn it on. Is there anything I can do to reboot it or am I just out of luck
    Thanks!

Did you buy the Applecare extended warranty? If not then you will need to pay for whatever repairs need to be done.
You will need to take the system to an Apple store Genius Bar for a check up.

    Try Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • New 13 inch macbook air screen went black, light stays on at keyboard, recently upgraded to new os x

my new , 2 weeks, 13 inch mackbook air screen went black, nothing works, the light stays on at the keyboard, today dowloaded new os x.  Need help to get it going.

If it's brand new, contact Apple's Express Lane.

  • My macbook 2008 screen went black a few months ago. I've been using it with a monitor. Today it's working. I have a feeling it's going to die at any time. Is it possible that a software patch fixed this ? Is there a utility I can run to test the screen ?

    Model : Macbook 2008
Symptoms: The screen was, intermittently, going black last year and then went black completely. I have been using it on a monitor ever since.
I can see the screen with a flashlight.
I completely erased the drive and loaded OSx 10.7. I believe that's the last version of OSx Mac will be supporting on this computer.
When I booted up the computer this morning the screen came on !
While typing this question, my screen went black again, not to return.
    So sad.
I did bring it to Apple and they believed the entire screen needed to be replaced.
They say that they tried a new inverter and it didn't work.
I have a feeling I'm just out of luck unless I want to cough up the $300 to fix the screen.
Although it is a solid machine, 2Ghz processor with 4 gigs of ram, it is still six years old.
I imagine that's like putting a new transmission in a 95 Honda civic. Yeah, it's a reliable car but it's old and it's probably going to break again.
I love my mac so much but I can't justify buying a new one or  paying to fix this old one.
I have a Gateway dual booting Windows 7 and ubuntu linux that's actually pretty slick and has taken it's place on business trips and coffee shop excursions.
If anyone has any thoughts or feedback I'd appreciate it.

The current Apple hardware warranty provides the following coverage for replacement parts:
A replacementpart or product, including a user-installable part that has been installed in accordance withinstructions provided by Apple, assumes the remaining warranty of the Apple Product orninety (90) days from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coveragefor you.
Check your particular warranty and see where you stand as to the period of coverage.
    Good luck,
    Ray

  • Mac book pro  screen went black and computer won't respond

I was using my MacBook Pro , which I only bought a week ago , when the screen suddenly went black and the computer seemed to power down , when this happened it was on 40% battery , I plugged In the MagSafe it didn't seem to light but when I looked closely it was on but it was very dim and flashing green and orange .  When I put my ear to the case I can hear a faint noise ,  can any please help ?

    Jordankaye,
since you’ve only had your MacBook Pro for a week, you’re within the 90-day telephone support period with Apple. Make good use of it while it lasts and contact Apple directly — this is a user-to-user forum, and we don’t have all of the resources which Apple has at its disposal.

  • My Macbook's screen went black, but the laptop still works!

I have a 2008 MacBook and it was working perfectly fine until one day I was using it and the screen instantly faded to black. I first thought my battery power had shut off, so then I closed the laptop but that little light on right front side was still blinking meaning the computer was still on. I then shut down the computer and turned it back on but as it started  the screen was its normal brightness for about 3 seconds then it quickly went black again. If I shine a light on the screen I can barely make out what it shows, which is my normal screen when I open up the laptop.
Did my screen somehow break from overuse or does have to do with the battery?

    Try a SMC reset

May however need a new logic board
    Is it one of these

  • Macbook Pro screen is black and will not shut down or boot up right.

Last night my 2007 macbook pro would not go to sleep properly.  When I closed the book the light stayed on and the fan continued running.  Later I shut it down.
This morning the computer turned on but the screen is black.  I tried closing the book but again it would not sleep.  I hold down the power button and it seems to shut down but when I push the power button again the light comes back on and the fan starts up but the screen stays black and there is no powerup sound.
The lights on the battery are lit up.  I tried taking the battery out but same thing.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Try:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Then see if it will boot into Safe Mode. Do not remove the battery unless it's defective.
If none of the above work then you may have a hardware failure so take it in for service.

  • Late 2008 Macbook Pro Screen Flashes Black

Earlier this year I had a problem with the screen of my late 2008 15" Macbook Pro flashing black. The entire screen would flash black for about half a second, then come back on. This would happen maybe once a day or as frequently as once every minute or so.
In January I took it to the Apple store for repairs, at which time they serviced my computer twice (Jan 10-14, Jan 14-15) to fix the problem. Everything was awesome until this month when I started noticing more issues. My battery was "swollen" and the fans were clicking (probably because I was also having over heating issues after upgrading to Lion). Anyway, I take the computer in, the employees at the Genius bar are very helpful, but as we're sitting there looking at my computer--the screen flashes. Not once, but 5 times. I confirmed that the Apple employee saw it and he took it in to get repaired.
I just got it back--they replaced the logic board for the third time, the ODD Super Drive, Optical Cable, battery, and two fans.
......aaannndd my screen just flashed black again. I'm not sure what's going on. Do I have a dud? They also didn't screw in one of the back screws all the way so I have to take it to the store to get it put in (I don't have that tiny of a screw driver). It's really annoying that they didn't put it in all the way, considering it sticks out enough to scratch the surface of any table I'm working on.
Anyway, anyone else continuing to have these issues?

Update: let it rest for ten minutes. Rebooted, I get a grey screen with vertical rainbow colored lines in three places.

  • MacBook pro screen is black but computer still on...

I was using my computer one minute, then closed it and stuck it in my bookbag and then headed down a flight of stairs. When I got down there I eventually tried to open up my laptop, and the screen was black but I could hear the computer. When I got home I held down the power button to turn it off, then powered it back on. Same issue. I hear the clicking sound i always hear when I turn the computer on, but no Mac starting chime, although I don't think I've heard that in years. The power button light that goes around the power button is not on, but again I don't think that's ever on. My charger is plugged in (it's orange).
I have tried taking the battery out with the computer off and popping it back in. I tried with the computer on and popping it back in. Same issue. The other thing I noticed is it doesn't seem to be going into sleep mode when I close the screen (that front white light using flashes off and on again when it sleeps I think?).
Im going to try to take it to an apple tech person, but I am studying abroad in new Zealand so there's much less infrastructure here. Can't find an official apple store. But i did want to try some things tonight possibly to maybe fix it.
I'm thinking this might be an nvidia graphics card issue.

Just tried to reset pvram and Pmu and in the steps it says the computer should restart. It doesn't seem to be restarting for me.

  • Macbook pro screen has black and white squares

I have an older 2007 15" MacBook Pro. I turned it on one day and, although the computer made the same sounds it always does when it is booting up, the screen showed these very depressing black and white squares, and the rest of the pixes around these blocks (half black, half white)  were very scrambled.  A few days later the computer booted up completely normally, but now it is back to the crazy screen.
Does anyone know what this problem may be? I am currently in Thailand and am wondering if someone can help me figure out what problem this most likely is so I can decide how much an appropriate repair should cost.
    Thanks so much!

Hi if the device is a Macbook pro 15 inch mid 2010 model then there might be a chance of replacement of MLB for NVDIA graphic problem, please contact an apple authorised service provider for more details about this issue and you may get a free replacement programme for this MLB also all the best.....

  • MacBook Pro screen goes black when video is blown up on the second screen

I'm not sure if this is a problem but when I open up a video in fullscreen mode on my second display, the screen on my MacBook goes completely black and I cannot access anything on the my MacBook until I restore the video to windowed mode. Is there any way I can fix this?
Just to add, I can still see my cursor on the MacBook's screen, but there are no menus or docks on there, and I can see my notifications, but other than that, if I attempt to switch tasks and say open up Safari, the safari window on my MacBook will be black, while the video on the secondary monitor is in fullscreen mode.

Obviously there's a bad connection in there. Best bet is to take it back to the GB and show them how it happens.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro screen go black when the charger is plugged in while using bootcamp?

While on bootcamp, my computer runs perfectly fine unless I have the charger plugged in. Once I plug it in the screen goes black and starts to charge. I know the computer is still on because I can hear audio from videos if one is playing while I plug in the charger. Once I unplug it the screen comes back on. This makes it so I am unable to work on my computer with the charger plugged in. This is a new problem and did not start once I installed windows 7, it used to work fine. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your suggestion! It helped me with this issue as well. My problem was that I was that Windows had started but wasn't logged in yet--the brightness keys didn't work on the windows login screen. I had to log in to Windows, then plug in the power, then turn the brightness up.
    Thanks again for the suggestion!
