Macbook pro & SD cards

My macbook pro's SD card slot is not reading cards.
It used to work fine. And the same card works on another Macbook.
Any ideas to fix it?

I didn't say, but the slot stopped working from one hour to the next. I used one card, handed it to someone else who used it in his macbook pro, he gave it back and it didn't work on my computer. tried it with another SD card as well. Both work fine in his computer and in my camera.

What setting will make sync make my iPhone and MacBook Pro contact cards alike? I've been having to key in changes to both devices because sync doesn't sync.

If you really are running Mac OS X 10.7.5 and iOS 6.1.3, you should be able to sync through iTunes, but in current releases you need to use a central contact service like iCloud.
Did you have it working and then not working, or have you never had it working?
Are you trying to use iTunes, iCloud, or something else?

Mid 2010 Macbook Pro Graphic Card(GT 330M) Temporary Fix

Have seen lot of Posts regarding this issue to which i found a temporary fix and thought might be helpfull to someone else
I am with a Mid 2010 Macbook Pro
2.66 i7
4gb ram
Nvidia Geforce gt 330m / Intel HD Graphics(228 mb)
Lion 10.7.2
its been above 4 years my mb was working fine untill i decided to do a clean install of Mountain Lion and started facing this Crash Issues,
within this week i tryed to reinstall snow leopard and lion and tryed to overcome this crash issue but noting worked(couldnt reinstall snow bcaz it wouldnt boot for me)
Havent taken it to a showroom or repair centre since i already figured that this issue is due to the nvidia graphic card that came with this mb(but planing to once i save enuf money for a new repair)
for now i am on 10.7.2(lion) and my fix to this issue is gfxCardStatus 2.2.1(the new version of gfx does automatic switching for me which gives me no control)
Bfore this when ever i opend Logic Pro the gfx status automatically moved to Discrete which after a while lead to black screen and a force restart,so i came across this fix and its been working well for me
how to ;-
1 - install gfxCardStatus 2.2.1(google it for download link)
2 - switch energy saver in system prefs to battery saver and select Intergrated Mode in gfcardstatus from the menu bar
Note ;-
- after restart the defualt in gfx bcomes dynamic switching and while selecting Intergrated mode the screen will have white lines and garbled issue.
3 - so bfore restart i quit gfx and uninstall it(move it to trash n empty)
4 - after restart the gfx menu dosent come up on bar so i reinstall it from a extrnal usb or drive or redownload it from internet and install it back n repeat set 2 from how to notes.
Now repeating this process when i open Logic Pro the gfx stays on Intergrated Only allowing me to finish my projects with full concentration and without any black screen or force restarts.
Hope this works well for some one out there.

Spill Cleaning
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

Macbook pro Graphic card failure

I have a Macbook pro 15 inch MB 134 model. I had the classical black screen problem which i taught that it was the NVidia graphic card failure after reading the symptoms on apple support page. However, as usual, the apple authorised service center denied the reason of graphic card and told me that it is a mother board failure and i have to replace the board with a cost of 700 $. It was unbelievable. I went to a computer repair shop who immediately told me that it is due to graphic card failure and he can fix it. Again i spoke to apple and they denied again telling that the shop is not telling the truth. They were able to fix for a reasonable price and told this can happen again in the future and apple is responsible they should replace the board for free of coast. Now my computer is working but same syptoms started recently. It was a huge dissappointment . Such a big company should recall all the models affected whether there is a problem or not. Now i am planning to buy another mac and this keeps me holding and i doubt if something like that can happen in the future again.
If anybody authorised in Apple is reading this post: Please recall all the models produced that year and replace for free. This way you can regain your reputation!!

This is just a user-to-user forum - no one from Apple here. Sorry to hear about your problems - there have been some issues with some graphic cards in some models of the MacBook Pro and Apple has replaced logic boards for up to four years after date of purchase. I'm not sure if your's was one of those models - you don't specify the date of your model - but it may be worth checking out.
All computers are going to fail out some point and Apple's are no exception. Sometimes they last for a decade, sometimes they're bad right out of the box. In your case Apple was right - the only sure fix for your computer was a logic board replacement, as the 'fix' you had at the other repair shop didn't stand.
Rather than have the logic board replaced now, I would just invest in a new computer, PC or Mac - depends on what you want. The reliability of a good PC is the same as a Mac.

MacBook Pro Sound Card issue

Hello everyone,
I own a Early June 2011 15" MacBook Pro to assist me in my work as an audio engineer.
In spite of some Airoport card/cable issues the MacBook is doing it's job better than I could've wished for,
but at the moment (just a couple of months out of warranty) I'm having an issue;
The audio coming out of the mini jack output is very distorted and not usably.
It all happened after an evening working in a studio:
The connected minijack cable was accidentally pulled out very rough and this activated the digital output option on the MacBook.
After re connecting the normal mini jack cable everything seemed to work fine and the I've been playing music trough this same output for the rest of the evening.
The next morning (after the machine has been on sleep mode) the audio, coming out of the minijack output, was very distorted.
The internal speaker works fine, though.
I did a lot of research on the internet and tried a couple of things I found there.
At a certain moment I found a step by step guide to remove some iTunes file in the OSX library.
After doing this and restarting the machine 1 side of the stereo output seemed oke, but the other was still distorted.
As soon as I dragged my balance slider around both of the sides were distorted again.
This proves, though, that it isn't a hardware issue.
I've tried a combo update and updated my Mac to Mountain Lion but it still isn't solved.
Any help is much appreciated!

First make sure you are using the latest drivers...

However the latest ones are not yet confirmed as working to OS X 10.10.3 so you may need to wait for an update from Avid....
Test and see....
Note: It's always a good idea not to update OS X or Logic Pro until after you have checked if there are working drivers for your external hardware first.. especially, in my personal opinion... in the case of Avid hardware drivers which are know to lag behind in development..

13" Macbook Pro Network Card- Bootcamp users please help!

Does anybody know precisely the model of the Ethernet card in the New 13" inch macbook pros?
I am currently running Vmware and windows fundamentals- it's missing the drivers so i can't connect to the internet....

Hi and welcome to Discussions,
VMWare Fusion brings its own set of drivers to be installed in the Guest Operating System.
They are called Vmware Tools.
No additional driver is usually neeeded and most likely won't work, since the Ethernet card is not adressed natively, but through an abstraction layer.
There is a new 2.05 version of Fusion avaiable, have you tried it already ?

MacBook Pro SD card reader is not working

I have a MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 with OS X 10.8.2. The reader has been working until now. I have tried several different cards with no luck. After searching the community board I tried both an SMC reset and a PRAM reset but no luck. (When I look in Disk Utility, I do not see the built in card reader.) Any suggestions?

Anyone else with card reader issues should read this page. Just because your card reader doesn't appear to be working or has mysteriously dropped off your system doesn't necessarily mean a logic board replacement. I've repaired several portables over the years that had been quoted for costly logic board replacements, when in fact the failures were relatively easy to resolve once you understood the real problem.
It's common belief a PRAM or SMC reset should fix all hardware glitches but sometimes it just doesn't go deep enough, as I found out with my 2011 MBP. Simply removing the battery was all it took to resurrect my seemingly dead card reader, when PRAM and SMC resets failed to have any impact on the problem.

Apple have just replaced aMLB $945 aus. as my macbook pro graphics card failed. but 4 weeks later the screen has gone blank .i will take it in as the Mlb is still under warranty. could the MLB be damaged or worn out.?

what do you suppose is wrong with my macbook pro seeing as the apple store have just replaced a MLB at $945aus because of a failed graphic card. the new one they replaced lasted 4 weeks and again a blank screen.

You have a 90 day warranty after your machine has been repaired. Call the Apple Store/AASP and have them take another look at it.

Why is the Macbook Pro graphics card worse than my school's Macbooks.

I have some problems with games on my Macbook Pro and I usually have to play games on low quality. So I checked on System profiler what my graphics card is, (I can't list it becase i'm at school) and compared it with my schools graphic card. I think my Macbook pro's graphic card is like 250m but i don't remember the name of it. My school's notebook is Nivida GeForce 9400m. The school's Macbooks have 2 gb lower ram though. My brother has no problem playing games. I was just wondering why this is. Thanks in advance!

Well if its a 2011 then you don't have a GeForce at all. If its 13 inch then you have Intel HD 3000. 15 inch is the Intel HD 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6750M. 17 inch is Intel HD 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6770M.

Macbook pro express card connected hard drives get disconnected

I have a Macbook pro 17" 2010 i7, my external drives are getting ejected misteriously when the system sleeps and wakes up, i have this problem with esata, USB3 cards and all kinds of encolsures, running 10.7.2, help, its driving me crazy!

If you installed a retail version of Windows, the order of installing drivers and utilities matters.
Best to restore the hard disk from Toshiba recovery media.
Order Toshiba Recovery Media
Otherwise, use the attachment as a rough guide. Notice that the chipset software followed by the display driver are installed prior to other drivers and that the Common Modules is installed before other Toshiba utilities.

Macbook Pro Nvidia card sunddenly working

Last year I opened my Macbook pro and the screen wouldn't turn on. Completely black. The computer turned on, I can hear the start up noise and the fans running with keyboard lighting up, just not the screen. So I took it into AppleCare and they came back with the diagnosis that the NVIDIA graphics chip had gone bad, so had the logic board but that had been a problem from much earlier. Apple then graciously told me it would not be covered under my warranty and sent me an estimate for repair which I declined as I could get a new computer for that price. The computer then sat in my closet and has been taken out a few times getting data off of the hard drive then put back in. Today I turned it on and the screen suddenly started working. I then turned it off shut it and repeated only to have the screen go blank again. Again shut down, close and repeat. This time the screen turned on and since I have restarted twice and shut and close the laptop several times but not a complete shut down. My main question is, does this computer sound salvageable, or will it be destined to repeat this? What is the actual issue, is my nvidia card really broken or does the screen just have a few wires loose? Thank you for any information that you can give me.

MacBook Pro Grapics Cards incompatible with Final Cut Express HD?

I have just installed Final Cut Express HD but it won't run because it believes there is no graphics card in the new MacBook Pro. Have tried switching from integrated 9400 chip to 9600 chip but it makes no difference. Are these chips not capable of running Quarz?

I am a little surprised about your comment that you were frustrated by trying to edit with iMovie.
The latest version, iMovie 08 (aka 07) is poor for serious editors but the earlier versions were very good and extremely easy to use.

New MacBook Pro NVidia Card & Float

Hello,
I need some help making a decision before buying a new MBP.
Does the MacBook Pro switch to from ATI to NVDIA cards mean a kind of downgrade for using Color, as it won't allow 32 bit float?

I feel sure that the lack of support for Nvidia cards will be addressed sooner rather than later.
Or they will avoid the issue and include software based rendering and make it GFX card agnostic....
Either way, the new machines are just so pretty, how could you NOT buy one.

New Macbook Pro: Airport Card Malfunctioning?

Hello-
I just bought a refurbished MacBook Pro from the Apple Store, and am having some problems with my Airport connection. Diagnostics show that the connection to my Linksys wireless router is working properly, but it is behaving as if I am out of range of the router. If pages in my browser load at all, it takes them a VERY long time. Around the house, the status bar never shows above 3 bars of signal. In fact, even if I place the computer directly alongside the router, signal still shows 3 bars strength. Page load times improve the closer I get to the router, however. And, if I connect via ethernet cable, internet behavior is normal. Did my 'new' refurbished MacBook Pro arrive with a faulty Airport card? Is there a way to test? Both my Powerbook G4 and my wife's Windows laptop are showing full signal strength in all parts of the house with no connection problems, whatsoever.
Not sure if these are clues, but upon receiving this new computer, I elected to transfer all of my files and applications automatically from my older Titanium Powerbook G4 when I was first getting it set up. I did have to change my manually-assigned IP for the new machine so as not to 'compete' with the older machine when accessing my wireless router, but that was the only thing I thought I'd have to do.
Thanks in advance for any help! I hope I didn't buy a lemon.

Just wanted to update with what appears to be my solution to this problem. Bought a new router yesterday (a Netgear Dualband wireless N), and have been up and running fine since. No more hanging, and signal strength is full from anywhere in the house.
