MacBook Pro Settings

Hello everyone,
I've just bought a MakBook Pro and will be using it with logic pro 8,
I would to know how to set up my MacBook Pro for optimal use with logic.
Could someone please help.
Thanks,
Karl

Get two fast external FW or eSATA drives - one for samples/Loops - one for recording your Audio to. Keep your system drive free of Audio and Samples as much as possible.
As you are on a Macbook you'll have to install all content that comes with Logic studio onto the system drive first. After the Installation move all the Jam Packs and Loops to your external and reindex your Library by dragging the content into the Library area in the bin on the right of the Arrange.
Also get 4 Gigs of RAM.

  • Used Macbook Pro settings question

Bought a used Macbook Pro. How do I remove the old user, and all of his settings, or change his settings to mine? I really dont want to delete all and reinstall the operating system because he left alot of nice programs on it, without the disk, and I dont want to lose them. I am new from windows, and dont have any ideas, since I want to keep the applications. Thank you

The seller should have included the original installation/ restore discs that shipped with the MacBook Pro, as well as the original discs for all the the "nice programs" included on the Mac. (Possession of the discs confers the license to you, the new owner, and if he kept them he is violating the terms of use.)
If you have those discs, you should probably do a complete erase and install of the OS, wiping the hard drive (you never know what not-so-nice programs may have been left behind) and reinstalling the system and the applications afterward. You would do this by starting up from Disc 1 of the two Mac restore discs.
If the seller did not include the discs, contact him and ask for them, as 1) you protect yourself legally and 2) you may need those discs at some point in the future if you should ever need to restore your system or perform any kind of HD repair using Apple's Disk Utility. The discs also have the Apple Hardware Test which can diagnose various hardware issues you may experience. Apple will send you replacements of those discs (for a small fee) if you call AppleCare and tell them your Mac's serial number.

  • MacBook Pro settings to hear XM Satellite Radio

XM Radio came in loud and clear when I first received my MacBook Pro using wireless. Now I open XM but no sound. I get sound on other sites. Any specific settings required? XM tech support suggests opening ports 80 (HTTP) or 1755 (UDP, TCP). Does MacBook Pro have proxies installed denying me sound? How do I disable firewall/proxy/security center or configure them to allow Windows Media Player access to the Internet? Any help appreciated.

  • Migration from Macbook Pro, settings are macbook pro

I have migrated my data from Macbook Pro Retina using migration assistance. During the process I didn't allow it to override my current profile, or something. Now when I use terminal, it says
    Name-Macbook-Pro:~ name $
    shouldn't it say
    Name-Mac-Mini:~ name $
    instead?
Also, when I'm going into my apple store, it has applications for enhancing macbook pro retina experience. How do I change all this?
    Thanks!

Nevermind, I found out that it was because my Device's name was changed, and in order to change that, just go to shared folder in the preferences and it can be changed there.

  • Macbook pro looses login settings with thunderbolt display

I've noticed that on occasion my MacBook Pro looses its desktop settings when connected to a Thunderbolt display. Why Thunderbolt display discards my MacBook Pro window environment settings upon boot-up is unknown to me. I can tell when this happens when my desktop loads different backgrounds from those on my MacBook Pro.  Furthermore, the option in the System Preferences for changing my desktop background will cease to function. I even notice system wide speed degradation.
In order to correct this and reload my MacBook Pro settings I must identify a specific file named “com.apple.loginwindow.plist” and delete it. Doing so resolves whatever existing conflict so that Thunderbolt displays the correct background and enables System Preferrences to work properly.
I would appreciate very much if anyone has a resolution for this problem.
    Respectfully,
    TomBoltz

I think you need to do a search of the of these forums to see if there is an answer.  I saw a lot of suggestions, but the #1 solution is buying a brand new cable.  I have personal experience with that.  My son recently switched from an HP to a MacBook Pro.  The HDMI cable worked perfectly with the HP.  It didn't with the Mac.  He got a new cable for the Mac, everything resolved itself.
I have heard all kinds of speculation on it, but it happens frequently enough that there must be something going on.  I'd spend $30 on a new MiniDisplayPort to DVI connector or whatever you use.

  • MacBook Pro not recognising EAC burnt audio cds

Hi, I have been searching all day over forums and google trying to solve this problem but had no luck.
Using the EAC burning guide from the Wiki articles I burnt several audio CDs on my windows vista laptop. Everything seemed to go fine in the burning process. All the CDs work fine with all my cd players as well as my slightly old iMac and other Windows computers. However, when I insert the CDs into my MacBook Pro they are recognised as blank CDs. The strange thing is, is that my MacBook Pro will recognise consumer CDs from the shops without any hassle.
I've tried two different disks (maxwell cd-r and a blank non-branded cd-r) so I think we can eliminate any media problems.
It could be a problem with the burning process but then why would it work on all of those other platforms including another Mac?
I have tried re-installing older versions of iTunes, same result. My MacBook Pro is currently up-to-date too. Also to add that I have made audio CDs on this MacBook Pro using both Toast and WaveBurner that play fine.
Does anyone have any ideas, I think it is likely to be a problem with my MacBook Pro settings but would not know where to start?

    Hi Timia,
If you are using Safari as a web browser :-
Open Safari, go to Safari menu > Preferences > General, and put Google as the homepage. Then, choose Google as your default search engine.
If you are using Google Chrome as the web browser :-
      Open Google Chrome.
In the top right corner of the page, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
In the "Search" section, select Google from the drop-down menu.

  • I made the wrong choice when I connected my new iPhone 5 to my MacBook Pro for the first time (lost ALL my new photos because it restored settings that were 9 months old) - can I re-do this somehow and configure it as a new phone?

I connected my new iPhone 5 to my (now fully updated after two separate operating system upgrades!) MacBook Pro so that I could add my music to my new phone.  Rather than configuring it as a new iPhone, I chose to configure it as my old iPhone, thinking that this would make it easier for my music to be there.  WRONG.  Now my new iPhone 5 looks exactly like my old iPhone 4 did in OCTOBER, 2012 - photos, messages, contacts... anything done since then is gone (that was the last time I had backed up my old phone, which unfortunately was not connected to the cloud and is also lost somewhere in a New England lake :-().  What I could really, really use help with is finding out if I can have a do-over on my choice and at least get my new phone looking/acting like the new phone it is, and bonus would be to have the photos and videos I took with it this past weekend (it's only five days old!) restored.  Please help!

Look iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is a backup listed for your iPhone 5 dated BEFORE you restored your iPhone 4 backup to your iPhone 5? If not, your data is gone. If there is a backup, on your iPhone 5: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You should now be able to restore that backup, if it exists, to your iPhone 5.

  • When I turn on my MacBook Pro I get a message that the iCloud terms have changed and I have to accept the new ones in Settings. The spinning wheel then appears and stays there - forever.

The problems began when I deleted a ymail account and replaced it with a new ymail account. My main account is a gmail. At some point Yahoo appear to have changed the suffix from ymail.com to yahoo.com. I could not and indeed cannot get iCloud to accept my new account. I kept getting told that my id and password could not be configured. Eventually I tried it on my mini iPad and "hey presto!" no problem at all. My new yahoo account nestles comfortably in iCloud on the mine iPad. But the MacBook Pro will have none of it! I write this question now as I fear that I will be totally demented very soon and unable to formulate my thoughts clearly!
By the way, I also find the "password" issue problematical. It seems Apple want my Apple password rather than my eMail password. All very confusing.

No, your Yahoo account is not in iCloud (which only handles iCloud mail), it is in Yahoo, and the Yahoo mail account is on your iPad.

Get the correct settings for your account from Yahoo and set it up manually.

That would depend on what you are trying to do.

  • How to restore display on MacBook Pro to original settings after faulty external display connection

Rookie question, 2009 MacBook Pro.  We bought a dvi-VGA adapter to connect to an external display. Got a picture on the external monitor but very poor resolution.  Meanwhile the display on the MacBook Pro re-set itself and we were not able to restore it to normal even after we disconnected the external monitor.  We now have our MacBook Pro with messed up resolution and display, AND no external display.  How do we get the MacBook Pro back to its default display settings?  Any help greatly appreciated!

    this is from another discussion:

Re: MacBook doesn't sleep when closing lid with external monitor attached with Lion     Oct 14, 2011 7:01 PM    (in response to admgtz)
I would like to offer this solution.  I have a MacBook Pro with an external monitor, and, for a year and a half both displays slept when I closed the MBPS.  This behavior stopped when I installed Lion.  They would sleep when I removed the power cord, but what a pain that would be.  The command "pmset -g assertions" gave no indication of which process ought be preventing sleep.
I contacted Apple support, and after some searching, the guy working with me found this thread, which was flagged as an Apple-approved solution:

Correct AnswerRe: How do I tell Lion to disable the LCD screen even when the lid is open?
    Aug 31, 2011 9:56 AM (in response to Bob_viking)
Here's the command to make your laptop behave like it did Pre-Lion (courtesy of my friend):
    sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"
Works perfectly for me. If it screws up your system, just zap the PRAM next boot (cmd-opt-p-r) and you'll be back to the default Lion state. Or if you can still get into terminal, this command will get you back to Lion's default state as well:
    sudo nvram -d boot-args
    Enjoy!
One snag was that I had to run it with the external monitor disabled, but it worked great!

  • 13" (2010) MacBook Pro Display settings are showing a second "built-in" display that doesn't exist

    I have a 13" mid-2010 MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.10.2
I also have an LG 23MP75 monitor attached, at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (60Hz) using the display port to a VGA adapter. This is my standard configuration for in the office.
When I attached my laptop this morning, and logged in to my user id, my monitor wasn't in it's normal "location" -- that is, I couldn't drag the cursor to the left off my laptop desktop and onto the second monitor. I opened up my System settings and discovered the most unusual monitor configuration I've seen...
What makes it unusual is that I don't have a third monitor attached.
The left-most screen is my laptop, the right-most screen is my external display, and the centre "screen" shows as a "Built-in Display" at 1536 x 2048 resolution.
I have unplugged and re-plugged the display adapter; I have detected displays (with and without the external monitor attached). I haven't yet rebooted (as I wanted to get screen shots in case the problem "goes away.") and the centre display persists.
I can rearrange the displays, and put the external back to where I normally have it, but that ghost display still sits there.
I have had minor problems in the past, when I switch from my external monitor to a projector and then come back to my monitor - the MacBook doesn't always remember the screen resolution and I've had to Detect Displays, and sometimes reset the resolution manually. But it's a minor issue; given that I'm swapping external devices in and out while my computer is asleep, it doesn't surprise me.
I have used iScreen in the past to extend my desktop onto my iPad, but the iScreen preference is currently turned off AND I'm not using my iPad, nor is it currently on the same wifi network as my laptop (on a hunch, I turned off my wifi, but the ghost display persisted).
    Two questions:
    1) Where did this "ghost display" come from?
    2) More importantly, how do I get rid of it?

Select the listing and drag it out of the sidebar.

  • Dual monitor settings on macbook pro 13"

I am using a 13" MacBook Pro (non retina display) that only has 1 thunderbolt port to connect a 2nd display.  I was able to get 2 displays to work by using a mini display port to HDMI adaptor and USB to HDMI adaptor.  However, I can not get the monitors configured correct.  The 2 external monitors are mirrored and the laptop display is the extended desktop (I unchecked mirroring in the display settings).  When I click on the primary display it puts the red box around both external displays.  When I click on the 2nd external (what appears to be in settings) no red box appears on any of the  monitors.  Instead I see a faint line of red between the primary monitor and the laptop display.
If I close the laptop, I only see the 2 displays in settings, but they are functioning as one.  When I click on the second one no red box appears around either screen.
The primary monitor is connected with the Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor and the 2nd external is with the USB to HDMI.
I have also tried turning on and off "displays have separate spaces". Doesn't make a difference.
Any ideas on how to get this configured properly?
    Thanks!!

    Hello Templeton,
I can't see 'turn on mirroring" or 'mirroring' anywhere.
I went to system preferences, hardware, displays, and the only options are resolutions, colours, brightness, refresh rate, detect displays. Nothing on mirroring at all. this is why I'm confused. I did read about mirroring but can't find it anywhere.

Turn off Find My iPhone in iCloud on the iDevice.
Log out of iMessage, Facetime, remove Apple ID from iTunes & App Store.
Use Settings > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Then set it up as a new iPhone with your own Apple ID.
