MacBook Pro shuts down as soon as I unplug the power

Help,
As soon as I unplug the power of my MacBook Pro, it shuts down, and all of my unsaved stuff is lost. Anyone got a soloution?
PS Is the battery user replaceable? I am using the Mid-2010 model.

No, that battery is not really user-replaceable. What numbers do you see for that battery in Apple symbol/About this Mac/More Info/System Report/Power? (Especially the Charge and Health Information.)

  • Macbook pro shuts down as soon as I try to turn it on

I recently bought a Macbook pro (13 inch). Suddenly last night, when I try to turn it on, it begins to start (apple logo on screen) and then turns itself off. Have a lot of precious stuff on it (photos, videos, etc) and hoping there is a simple fix...

Thanks. Yes, will likely have to do that. The various fixes inthe manual not working.

  • My MacBook Pro Shuts Down 5 Minutes After I Unplug It, Whats WRONG!?!?

Recently, whenever my Macbook Pro is ever unplugged it shuts down in less than five minutes. It works absolutely fine when the power source is plugged into the wall. Do you think i have a faulty battery? Are there other Possibilities? I have searched around and it seems like people who have the same, but less extreme experiences-have faulty batteries...
    Thanks for the the help!

Defective battery. I know some folks with early MBPs that had this problem, and it was a bad battery in those cases. Call AppleCare. Assuming it's in warranty, they should ship you a replacement battery with a mailing label to return the bad one.

  • MacBook pro shuts down instead of sleeping while connected to power adapter

    Hi there,
I am currently facing a rather strange issue. My old MacBook pro (about 2 years old) shuts down instead of sleeping but only when it is connected to the power adapter. I mean it goes to sleep mode perfectly well when it works only with the battery. Is it a know issue ? I'm running 10.5.6 and this problem is quite new to me (happened the first time some weeks ago).
Thank you in advance for your answer.

You might try resetting the SMC and see if this helps:

  • Late 2008 Macbook Pro shutting down at 94% while running on the battery

So I called Apple about this issue last week, since I tried calibrating my battery to improve it's health. And when my battery life got down to 94% or lower... my laptop just shut down. For no reason. When I called Apple, the guy I talked to before said it sounded like my battery was defective. He hooked me up to a tech guy, and when I told him what was up, he said that all the numbers on my battery sounded normal, and that he thinks that my logic board is failing. I'm not entirely sure what is up. These are the numbers I am getting now, one from iStat Pro, and the other from System Profiler:

I had my laptop plugged in all day, but I unplugged it for like, 2 seconds because the LED light on my 85w Magsafe Adaptor was out again... just from bumping it. It was at 82% battery health yesterday, and was fully charged. The battery, as well as the adaptor and laptop are a little over 2 years old. My battery health has been declining since January... it was at 86% health at the end of January, near the beginning of February... then a few weeks into February, it went down to 84%, then 81%... up to 82%, and now down to 79% health. What on earth is going on? Do I need to get a new battery along with a logic board replacement?

    Software update to 10.6.8 fully?
Reinstall 10.6 only then Software update fully?
You can do that by backing up data off the machine and disconnecting, then c boot off the 10.6 disk, just reinstall OS X over the more recent copy, then reboot holding shift key down (precaution) then Software update fully to 10.6.8.
then you'll have to check all third party software to make sure it's running, some install kext (kernel extension) files into OS X which get booted out by the overwrite install method, so install those again from fresh sources.
If that doesnt' fix your issue then it's a firmware or hardware issue..
    run a  hardware test

For the "D" you need a internet connection previously (don't move if on wifi) and hold that D down for quite some time.

  • Macbook Pro Shuts Down During or Soon After Start-Up

My macbook pro shuts down after booting up. Sometimes it makes it to the desktop, but sometimes just to the gray screen. Also, at desktop, it asks if I want to shut down. Is something pressing on the shutdown button? Any help on what to do?

    Try resetting the SMC.

  • My macbook pro shuts down automatically

    Hi,
My macbook pro battery condition has been showing that it needs to be replaced soon. Ever since I knew my battery was weak, I started using my macbook by always connection it to the power adapter that way the power source would be from adapter. Since last two days, while in use macbook pro shuts down on me automatically. It never said shutting down or anything like that. The screen just went blank instantly and when i checked the battery indicator lights, all of the battery is drained. When I presses the power button it started and then instantly shut down again. After few mins of  repeating, I am finally able to see that my computer is getting turned on. But this issue repeats almost on a daily basis since the last three four days. Even if my battery went bad, I should be able to use my computer by connecting it to the power adapter, right ? or do I have to mandatorily replace battery for my computer to work ? please help.

    Resetting SMC
Read the support paper at the link
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • My girlfriends Macbook Pro shuts down at the Apple Logo....

My girlfriends Macbook Pro shuts down at the Apple Logo....
    1)I start the computer
2)It loads to the apple logo
3)A progress bar shows and loads about 5% then it dissappears and a few seconds later the macbook pro shuts down.
    Any solutions?
If not, is there any way for me to reinstall the os without losing any files such as(any of her pictures, music, etc)?

    Hi S,
See if you can run Repair Disk: Boot frominstall disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down c key andkeep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screenselect the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in themenu bar > open Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the leftside> click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’thappen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directoryis damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damagedHD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HDitself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, andrestart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > DiskUtility and run Repair Permissions.

  • Macbook Pro shutting down. Hardware error code 4MEM/62/40000000:0x7f537f90

Macbook Pro shutting down. Not the same action making it shutdown. Anywhere from being online to attaching a photo to an email to working in Word or Photoshop. Even after it's closed and not being used. I come back to it being shut off and saying it had to restart because of a problem. I ran the Hardware check and got the Hardware error code 4MEM/62/40000000:0x7f537f90.
I must say I am quite disappointed. I have used Mac for work but had a PC since day one, and I JUST got this Macbook Pro in Dec. I was delighted that Mac usually didn't have as many problems with viruses etc as PC. And now last couple days, constantly shutting itself down. The closest store to me is a few hrs away. I am in South Dakota, store is in Minnesota Any help would be appreciated.

Can you post a screen shot of About This Mac -> (More Info) -> System Report -> Memory and click on each DIMM and post the bottom right pane. You can also do the same without a screen shot using just text version using the following highlighted command in OSX Terminal. The output is also listed.

  • My 15" Macbook Pro, shuts down by it self (Random occurrence).

My 15" Macbook Pro, shuts down (randomly) by it self, some times it will not turn on, and some other times (very rarely) the fans go on “very loudly” the second I turn it on. But the computer, does not turn on at all, even with the battery fully charged and the fans runing full blast.
Some other times, it will not wake up. It will only turn on or wake up if connected to the power adapter, even if the battery is fully charged.
I have already reset (a couple times) de firmware, the smc and he pmu and the problem persists.
Al this goes on randomly and unpredictably. Some times it works just fine for 4 or 5 days and the suddenly something happens.
I also think that some times the computer runs extremely hot.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

    15' MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have the same thing happening with a new macbook I bought my wife and I called apple today and after going back and forth between apple care and apple customer service they are shipping me out a new replacement macbook as it is less than 30 days since I bought it. I am waiting for their email with the Fed ex info so I can send this one back and then they will send out the new one.
If it is still in warranty I suggest you call Apple customer service and let them know how bad it is and insist on a new one!
This one also reboots at the slightest movement and it took me several tries to finally log in on it tonight to delete all the user accounts before I send it back!
Hopefully the replacement one is glitch free!

  • MacBook Pro shuts down when i close the lid

    Hey,
My MacBook Pro shuts down when i close the lid.
It started to do this one or two times, but now it is every time.
I have the latest battery update, so this should not be the issue here..
    Any sugestions??
I have started to suspect the it might be some faulty conecctions or somthing..

If it's unable to go into the proper sleep state for some reason then it will do that.
Run /Utilities/Console and click 'All Messages' top left then close the lid, wait a minute then open it again - if it's shut down then reboot and open Console again and check the latest log lines looking for 'sleepimage' - it should give you an indication of what happened/didn't. If you're not sure what it all means post _just those lines_ here.

    Hi r,
Is it running very hot, as in, could this be a thermal shutdown? Download iStat Pro if you don't already have it.
