Macbook Pro shuts down during boot

Hi there,
Few days ago I spilled some beer on my 2 weeks old Macbook Pro... I immediately cleaned it, removed the battery and charger and left it to dry for 1.5 day.
After the drying period I tried to power up the machine, it did work but unfortutanely shut itself during the boot (the spinning wheel) and power button didn't respond again until I removed and re-connect my battery. Tried everything such as Nvram/Pram and SMC reset, single user thing, verbose mode, changing ram dimms but got nothing. It did eventually boot with hardware test but again got nothing as the test indicated that there weren't any problems.
It always shuts itself after "Checking catalog file" in the verbose mode.
(The machine shuts itself even when I try to boot it with os x installation disc so the only thing that I can reach is the hardware test.)
(To tell the truth I don't know if I succeeded creating a bootable installation disc as I did it under windows.. I'm hoping that I failed and that it can actually boot from dvd drive)
Did I just screwed my logic-board, if so how can I run all the tests.. Any suggestions?

Immediately disconnect all peripherals, power cord & remove the battery.  Turn the computer over with the lid partly open and the hinge facing upward to let the liquid drain.  Do not flop it over and lay it flat - you want to separate it from the moisture.  Place paper or cloth towels under the machine to sop up the mess.
After the computer disgorges whatever you spilled on it, don't turn it on for 72 hours or longer.  You want to computer to dry out completely before turning it on again.
Some users here swear by hairdryers.  Blow drying the innards may bake whatever was in the liquid onto delicate computer components.  Better to let the computer air dry.
Use plain tepid water to clean out the computer.  If you spilled iced beverage more than likely this ice fried the hot motherboard.
Sugary, acidic or milky drinks will almost always cause problems later on as the residue starts slowly corroding the computer innards.
Swab down any sticky parts with distilled water or denatured alcohol.
If none of the above works, you will need to take the computer to a repair shop.  Apple Care does not cover liquid or food damage.  Believe me, they can tell.  So the old "my computer stopped working" line is not going to work.
In order to not void your warranty any further, take it and let the staff clean it.  It's worth it for a 2 week old computer.   In the future, avoid eating and drinking while using your computer.  Will avoid future heartache and expense.

  • Macbook Pro Shuts Down During or Soon After Start-Up

My macbook pro shuts down after booting up. Sometimes it makes it to the desktop, but sometimes just to the gray screen. Also, at desktop, it asks if I want to shut down. Is something pressing on the shutdown button? Any help on what to do?

    Try resetting the SMC.

  • MacBook Air shuts down during boot

My Macbook Air (OS X Yosemite - Early 2014) automatically shuts down during boot, with the screen flashes during the loading bar at 40% and then shuts down. I've tried to reboot many times but it wouldn't get past the 40% on the loading bar.
I've also tried the following but none worked:
The Apple Hardware Test shows that "There may be an issue with a memory module." (PPM002, PPM003, PPM004) - though I've checked that the reference code and the definition doesn't match, as "There may be an issue with a memory module." should be PPM001, and PPM002-PPM015 should be "There may be an issue with the onboard memory.". I've sent this message to Apple and they'd only provided the option to visit their retail store.
Also, the Recovery Mode isn't much help either. As do not have a backup of my HD, I'm not able to restore from Time Machine Backup.
So, I've tried to reinstall OS X Yosemite, but it says "Unavailable to install OS X". A website online says that you can resolve this issue by correcting the date through terminal, but the basic menu bar won't appear, in which I'm not able to access Terminal during the Recovery Mode.
Therefore, I've also tried the Disk Utility, which it shows it can't be repaired, with the following messages: Invalid Node Structure (4, 57963), and 2 messages regarding the Invalid Extent Entry (4, 47013) and (4, 40808). The Single User Mode with the command fsck -fy yields the same message.
Is there any other options then to visit the Apple Retail Store?

      Invalid node structure
I'm pretty sure you need more then Disk Utility to repair the drive.

Assuming you have Snow Leopard installed, you can try reinstalling the Mac OS but you'll have to do this from another Mac.

  • Macbook pro shuts down during reboot after flat battery

Hi, I have a macbook pro (early 2011) And it went flat two nights ago whilst watching a movie. It was plugged in but I've been having charger issues. Anyway, now that it's fully charged, whenever i turn it on it gets to the apple logo with a progress bar (restoring the previous session maybe?), but then shuts down. I've tried a few times and its the same everytime.I suspect that it's trying to restore the last session (the progress bar - I cant recall whether that happens normally) and running into problems because of the flat battery episode. Can a session restore be cancelled?
I can still boot up the windows partition by pressing the option button during start up, its just the mac partition that wont boot. Also, I am still running Snow Leopard (what it came with, though with all updates).any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Anyone?

  • MacBook Pro Shuts Down During Bootup

    Hey Everyone,
My MacBook Pro (15", Late-2008, First-Gen Unibody) is having a pretty serious issue during startup. When I press the power button, the computer begins the startup sequence as usual, and reaches the grey screen with the Apple logo and the loading indicator (Not a loading bar, but the spinning flower-like thing). At this point, after about 10-20 seconds of the spinning loading indicator (Normal startup time for getting passed the grey screen on this machine is usually 30-ish seconds), the computer just completely shuts down without any warning. It does this every time I attempt to start it. I've done an SMC and NVRAM (PRAM) reset. Neither did the trick, so I moved onto trying fsck. The computer successfully started into single-user mode, and then I ran fsck -fy which successfully completed (It only had a memory block count problem (I think that's roughly what it said) which it repaired without issue). I typed reboot, which exited single-user mode fine, but it continues to fail to startup. I can't even get to computer into safe mode or recovery mode (It will allow me to select the recovery partition, but it will then shutdown while loading). I'm suspecting this is a HD problem, but I'm not an expert when it comes the hardware problems. Hopefully someone here might have an idea of what my issue is.
    Thanks!

  • Macbook Pro shuts down after booting up

I'm a new Macbook Pro owner running OS X.5. After booting up my computer "unexpectedly" quits and I need to hold power button and reboot. Sometimes it does this twice before finally operating normally. Any suggestions?
    Macbook Novice

    Either:
    a) Boot up in Safe Mode (hold down shift key at startup) to force checks and repairs
    or
    b) Boot holding down Apple/S (single user Mode) and don't let go until you see scrolling text.
When that stops and you see a root#: prompt enter
    fsck -fy
Let it run through all the checks and repairs.
If it fails first time, at any time, or finds and fixes a fault - run the command again and keep doing so (some fixes can take several passes) until it says "Appears to be OK" then enter
    reboot

  • MacBook Pro shuts down during start up

Recently my macbook pro battery stopped working, i took it to the apple service and battery has to be replaced which they will do so soon. They told me i can still use it on the power cord. However when i started it up the screen has a spinning wheel and a loading bar underneath the apple logo, which it never had before, and when the bar is 1/3 done the computer just shuts down every single time at the exact same place.
Is this because of the battery being broken or is it a totally different problem?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

  • MacBook Pro shuts down after booting

My MacBook Pro doesn't boot. It simply restart after the Apple logo and a few seconds of pinwheel.
I can start it target mode, but I can't boot with a CD nor any other volume. It keeps on restarting.
    Any idea ?

    Hi B,
You can't even startup in Single User?
If you are getting the splash screen some starting is being done, press COMMAND+V after Power button and see if you can read something that would give a clue about the issue.
If Single User is possible get the syslog report posted here.
    Good luck.

  • On starting up, my macbook pro shuts down after 25 seconds of booting up.

Hi there. On starting up, my macbook pro shuts down after 25 seconds of booting up. The time bar comes on for a while before it simply goes blank and switches off without any notification. Battery iappears charged. Could it be a virus? Help please!! O

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My girlfriends Macbook Pro shuts down at the Apple Logo....

My girlfriends Macbook Pro shuts down at the Apple Logo....
    1)I start the computer
2)It loads to the apple logo
3)A progress bar shows and loads about 5% then it dissappears and a few seconds later the macbook pro shuts down.
    Any solutions?
If not, is there any way for me to reinstall the os without losing any files such as(any of her pictures, music, etc)?

    Hi S,
See if you can run Repair Disk: Boot frominstall disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down c key andkeep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screenselect the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in themenu bar > open Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the leftside> click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’thappen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directoryis damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damagedHD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HDitself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, andrestart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > DiskUtility and run Repair Permissions.

  • HP Pavilion a1730n shuts down during boot

Have been using the Desktop Pavilion a1730n for several months after upgrading to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  Without any warning signs, now the CPU shuts down during boot up.   When I shut the main power supply switch off and then turn it back on, then switch the CPU on with the front on/off button it gets 15-20 seconds into the bootup and then powers off spontaneously and completely.
If I try to start it immediately again without turning the main power supply switch off then on and only depress the front on/off switch, it starts to boot but only gets about 10 seconds (varies) in to the boot process before in shuts down.
What could this be?  the power supply? the mother board?
    ANY ideas would be appreciated.

Hi , Sounds like the power supply , when a load is put on the supply  it does not seem to be able to cope with the correct output . You can buy a new supply ( same watt output or better )eg; if you have a 400watt supply get 400watt or higher supply as replacment . Checkurtech

  • Macbook Pro shutting down. Hardware error code 4MEM/62/40000000:0x7f537f90

Macbook Pro shutting down. Not the same action making it shutdown. Anywhere from being online to attaching a photo to an email to working in Word or Photoshop. Even after it's closed and not being used. I come back to it being shut off and saying it had to restart because of a problem. I ran the Hardware check and got the Hardware error code 4MEM/62/40000000:0x7f537f90.
I must say I am quite disappointed. I have used Mac for work but had a PC since day one, and I JUST got this Macbook Pro in Dec. I was delighted that Mac usually didn't have as many problems with viruses etc as PC. And now last couple days, constantly shutting itself down. The closest store to me is a few hrs away. I am in South Dakota, store is in Minnesota Any help would be appreciated.

Can you post a screen shot of About This Mac -> (More Info) -> System Report -> Memory and click on each DIMM and post the bottom right pane. You can also do the same without a screen shot using just text version using the following highlighted command in OSX Terminal. The output is also listed.

  • My 15" Macbook Pro, shuts down by it self (Random occurrence).

My 15" Macbook Pro, shuts down (randomly) by it self, some times it will not turn on, and some other times (very rarely) the fans go on “very loudly” the second I turn it on. But the computer, does not turn on at all, even with the battery fully charged and the fans runing full blast.
Some other times, it will not wake up. It will only turn on or wake up if connected to the power adapter, even if the battery is fully charged.
I have already reset (a couple times) de firmware, the smc and he pmu and the problem persists.
Al this goes on randomly and unpredictably. Some times it works just fine for 4 or 5 days and the suddenly something happens.
I also think that some times the computer runs extremely hot.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

    15' MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have the same thing happening with a new macbook I bought my wife and I called apple today and after going back and forth between apple care and apple customer service they are shipping me out a new replacement macbook as it is less than 30 days since I bought it. I am waiting for their email with the Fed ex info so I can send this one back and then they will send out the new one.
If it is still in warranty I suggest you call Apple customer service and let them know how bad it is and insist on a new one!
This one also reboots at the slightest movement and it took me several tries to finally log in on it tonight to delete all the user accounts before I send it back!
Hopefully the replacement one is glitch free!

  • N200 shuts down during boot

    Dear Lenovo,
I have a problem with my N200 laptop. Notebook shuts down during boot. Sometimes it is immediately after "Lenovo screen", sometimes it is when Vista logo appears. I found out that this is always when notebook is "cold". It does't matter if I want to switch on my notebook or if I want to restore it from hibernation or sleep mode. Next thing is that it always crashes when fan starts work at full tilt (I checked the fan but it is clear). When notebook starts correctly then it works without problems. Usually I have to switch it on about three times then it is OK. This problem takes about 2 weeks. I have my laptop about 7 month. Do you have any ideas how to solve this problem?
And another thing - I forget to send registration card to Lenovo and now I am afraid that I will be without warranty. Can I send it still now?
Thank you for answer and sorry for my English.
    Gabi

Yes, problem with the video card sounds plausible! Any not so successful updates recently? It is sometimes to make a good uninstall, which is required to make a good install.
4in1 drivers should - esp. with W98 and ME - be installed while in SafeMode and with all autostarting programs disabled, for example Antivirus and utilities.
Else, since you have a damaged regedit, I would reinstall Windows. You might have done something for example an upgrade or new install the registry, not healthy, has made a note of. Some utilities also overwrite and change system files without good results.
