Macbook Pro shuts down win xp and boots into leopard

I have noticed that a couple of times this week i will leave my machine for a bit running win xp and when i return the macbook has shutdown and rebooted into mac os. What is going on here? Anyone know? Thanks

Interesting, however I may have an explanation for this. You stated that you would leave your machine running but were not there to witness the actual shutdown and reboot.
1. You have the Windows Automatic Updates on Auto Update (This is by default)
2. You also have the default boot system for OSX at startup unless your press the OPTION key and choose Windows.
3. About 3 times a week (Sometimes More, sometimes less) windows will Auto Update based on availability of files on the Microsoft server.
4. What you may have witnessed is that, *while you were away*, Windows auto updated the files and went on a timed restart after installation.
5. Since your startup disk is set to boot in OSX, the computer boots up in OSX.
There is a high chance that you are witnessing what is stated above.

  • Macbook Pro Shuts Down without Warning and with Full Battery

I have been having a problem with my Macbook Pro, where it will shut down completely even though the battery is full.
It is a fairly new battery, because I had it replaced back last fall. When it shuts down, my first instinct is to try and turn it back on. When I do this, it starts up normally, goes to the white screen, but then shuts down again...
However, when I wait about a half hour and try turning it on again, it will boot up normally. It also works fine when plugged in.

  • My MacBook pro shuts down before it gets booted  up

When I turn on my MacBook it will start for a minute and then it shuts down and never gets started. Any advice. Thanks

    Hi.
Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller

  • On starting up, my macbook pro shuts down after 25 seconds of booting up.

Hi there. On starting up, my macbook pro shuts down after 25 seconds of booting up. The time bar comes on for a while before it simply goes blank and switches off without any notification. Battery iappears charged. Could it be a virus? Help please!! O

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • MacBook Pro shuts down and won't turn on

My MacBook Pro shuts down suddenly and won't start after pushing the power button??????

    Hi r,
Is it running very hot, as in, could this be a thermal shutdown? Download iStat Pro if you don't already have it.

  • My MacBook Pro shut down unexpectedly and won't connect to wifi now.

My MacBook Pro shut down unexpectedly and won't connect to wifi now. All other devices in my house are connecting to the wifi just fine. The laptop just refuses to connect. Any ideas on how to fix this/what it might mean?

    Try a SMC reset:

Follow directions for "A battery you should not remove yourself"
Check the mage safe connector and port for any debris.

  • My macbook pro shuts down OSX and all my programs when the lid is closed

    Hi,
I am having a problem. My macbook pro shuts down OSX and all my programs when the lid is closed. I close the lid, and then I hear the shutdown music and then when I open it again it automatically restarts OSX and all my windows and programs are closed, any info gone.
This doesn't happen all the time. Just once a day or maybe twice a day. It seems like it happens basically when I have my computer just the way I want it, to keep an eye on things for the day.
I just recently switched to a mac and while somewhat savvy, I am not a programmer or techie, but it seems to me that when I shut the lid, it should do the same thing every time.
I have a intel core 2 duo 17 inch macbook pro with 2.33 processr and 2 gig ram, if that helps.
I am in alaska and there is no genius bar here and I am hoping to figure this out before I begin bugging our local independant mac store about this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lylah
17 inch Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   intel core 2 duo 2.33g. 2 gig ram

    Ahhh, enlightenment!
That would make sense. What I usually do, after closing the lid, is to wait for the apple to turn off and then set it down on it's side leaning it against the side table. I will try to wait for it to indicate that it is fully asleep before I move it next time. Personally, I prefer my computer to NOT fall asleep at all, but I am told it is not an option. Apparently this function is hardware related accoring to my local mac shop. They tracked it down for me because I hated this feature when I first bought my computer and was trying some way around it.
The shutdown music I was refering to was that music the mac makes when shutting down, which doesnt usually occur when it goes to sleep, unless it is malfunctioning like this.
What does resetting the pmu do? (what is a pmu as well?)
    Thank you very much.

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

Take it in for service. Either the charger has failed or something on the motherboard.

If your model Macbook Pro is the calibrating model, let the battery calibrate.
If not, and are still under warrant or have Apple Care, give them a call and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

My MacBook Pro shuts down whenever I put it to sleep then put it in my briefcase and transport it. Then I have to reboot it again. Why does this happen?

Check this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547 and this one http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2341?viewlocale=en_US
If it sounds like a RAM issue it could be one of the RAM chips has failed. You could try removing the RAM one at a time and see if it starts with one still installed.

My girlfriends Macbook Pro shuts down at the Apple Logo....
    1)I start the computer
2)It loads to the apple logo
3)A progress bar shows and loads about 5% then it dissappears and a few seconds later the macbook pro shuts down.
    Any solutions?
If not, is there any way for me to reinstall the os without losing any files such as(any of her pictures, music, etc)?

    Hi S,
See if you can run Repair Disk: Boot frominstall disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down c key andkeep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screenselect the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in themenu bar > open Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the leftside> click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’thappen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directoryis damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damagedHD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HDitself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, andrestart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > DiskUtility and run Repair Permissions.

  • Macbook Pro shutting down. Hardware error code 4MEM/62/40000000:0x7f537f90

Macbook Pro shutting down. Not the same action making it shutdown. Anywhere from being online to attaching a photo to an email to working in Word or Photoshop. Even after it's closed and not being used. I come back to it being shut off and saying it had to restart because of a problem. I ran the Hardware check and got the Hardware error code 4MEM/62/40000000:0x7f537f90.
I must say I am quite disappointed. I have used Mac for work but had a PC since day one, and I JUST got this Macbook Pro in Dec. I was delighted that Mac usually didn't have as many problems with viruses etc as PC. And now last couple days, constantly shutting itself down. The closest store to me is a few hrs away. I am in South Dakota, store is in Minnesota Any help would be appreciated.

Can you post a screen shot of About This Mac -> (More Info) -> System Report -> Memory and click on each DIMM and post the bottom right pane. You can also do the same without a screen shot using just text version using the following highlighted command in OSX Terminal. The output is also listed.
