Macbook pro shutsdown after removing power cord
i have a core duo 15" macbook pro with 1.5 gb ram and whenever i remove the power cord it automatically shutsdown (battery is 100% full charge). i bought the machine on september and i started to have the same issue after 2 months of use.
i took it to an apple store and they said it is fine and they didnt find any thing wrong with the battery. now its starting to do it again and ive also noticed a slight bulge in the middle of the battery near the check charge button. also, i used the coconut battery app to check its life (not charge) and its down to 75% already and it also says the age of my mac is about 1000 months! (what the?).
i dont want to take it to the store again, so if i call apple support am i likely to swap my battery for a new one? im feeling that all these issues point to a faulty battery and i am entitled to a new one that enables me to use my laptop without the power cord plugged in all the time!

I do have the same problem exactly.
My MacBook Pro shut down at full charge after I removed the power cord. It wouldn't turn on again even after a PMU-reset.
Curiously when I left it for a night and tried the next morning it worked perfectly fine. But the problem persisted. I called apple support and they sent me to the next store with a case ID. Now it's been in repair for a week but the technician cannot reproduce problem - that is very frustrating.
The problem seems to come up only after working with the MBP for an extended period of time with the power cord plugged in. A wild guess: the battery's internal security-circuitry may be faulty.
I hope this issue is resolved quickly - I became a laughing stock at work after I said I'd pay the high price for an MBP so that I get superior design and reliability and two weeks after the machine is in repair. Very annoying.

I have a Pavilion Elite m9275.nl desktop. I experience boot issues after a regular shut down.
After a regular shut down and pressing the power button within a few seconds/minutes, it keeps hanging in the HP startup / BIOS screen, Windows 8 won't boot, the hard drive light doesn't flash;
After a restart from Windows (instead of shut down) it boots correctly from the c-drive. No hard-drive problems at all;
After a shut down and removing the power cord for 10-15 minutes, it boots correctly from the c-drive. No hard-drive problems at all.
When the PC does not boot, F10 (to enter BIOS settings) does not work neither, so it seems to be a hardware or BIOS issue.
I already replaced the CMOS battery and already loaded default BIOS settings.
During a succesful boot or after pressing F10 (to enter BIOS settings) the screen shows some disk information right after the BIOS. This is the screen that says something like "press CTRL-I to start configuration utility". During a succesful boot the hard disk light flashes shortly before displaying that screen. During an unsuccesful boot the hard disk doesn't flash.
Before replacing a hardware component, I need to know what to replace...
Could it be the hard disk controller or hard disk is defect?
Where is the hard disk controller stored?
Can I upgrade the firmware of the hard disk controller?
BUT: why does it work when I remove the power cord for 15 minutes or after a restart (instead of a shutdown and than pressing power)?

Turning MacBook Pro on after a power surge
Green light on power cord not coming on/computer won't boot after a power surge. This happened once before and I can't remember which keys needed to be pressed to make it turn on
If the green light won't come on the power adapter, that is completely independent of the computer, so nothing you do to the computer can fix the power adapter light.
I believe the power adapter has its own fuse and that to reset it you have to unplug it on both ends and let it sit for a little bit. At least that's what I seem to remember when it happened to me. -
Macbook Pro shutsdown after accessing Recovery disk
I have a Macbook pro that shuts down right after I access the Recovery mode disk. This happened after my Mac partition stopped working. My Windows partition (bootcamp) still works with less functionality.
If your computer came with disks, try booting off Disk 1, and then go to Disk Utility and Repair Disk and Repair Permissions.
You can also try booting into Internet Recovery (command - option - R during a restart) and run Disk Utility there.
Reboot and test. -
Took apart Macbook pro 13 to remove broken headphone tip in the jack. Had to remove battery to get to the headphone jack. Now the laptop won't start. The power button is just not responding. Battery indicator showed charge of 3 dots initially but now only the last dot is blinking. The power cable used to light up green initially but now the green light is gone. I have tried SMC reset, which didn't work. What are my options?

Is it possible to virtually bypass the battery on a macbook pro (retina 2014) and power the mac directly via AC power?
E.g. Dell allows you to plug the laptop into AC power but prevent battery charging.
Note: I do not want to physically remove the battery.

I guess the only solution to my question would be an app which virtually disconnects the battery but tricks the mac into thinking the battery is still connected. Java is no longer included in Mac OS X by default. If you want Java, you will have to install it.
However, note that you should think twice before installing Java for such a trivial need as looking at stock market quotes. There are other ways to get that information that don't involve Java, and using Java in your web browser is a HUGE security risk right now. Java has been vulnerable to attack almost constantly for the last year, and has become a very popular, frequently used method for getting malware installed via "drive-by downloads." You really, truly don't want to be using it. See:

I've tried using my sister's after market power cord and it recognizes that an accessory has been plugged in but it won't charge. The cord does charge my sister's 5. I've also purchased 3 adapters and put them on my 4s power cords and the same thing happens. Only the power cord they came with the phone will charge it. We'll need to know more to beable to help. Do you want to try to restore your photos from your iPhone to your Mac, or try to recover the photos from the old iPhoto Library on your Mac?
What is the situation of your Mac now? In hat way did it crash? A hardware problem with the drive? Does the system not start properly? Does iPhoto not launch? Do you still have the iPhoto Library on your mac or a backup, so we could try to rescue the photos there?

On the iPhone you cannot access the "package contents" - IOS hides the file system from the users. To restore photos from your phone share all iPhoto photos to your Camera Roll, that are not already in the Camera Roll, and then connect the iPhone via USB and import the Camera Roll to iPhoto or Image Capture. To retrieve photos from a corruptrd iPhoto Library on your Mac we need to know the version number and more about the "crash" you experienced, the state of your mac, the system, the data. Please post back with more details.

There are no updates currently available beyond v10.8.4 for Mountain Lion.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes a longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
If that doesn't help, the startup disk may need repairing.
Turn the Mac off, wait about ten seconds then startup while holding down the Command + R keys. Let go of the keys when you see the spinning progress indicator.
From there you should be able to access the utilities in recovery mode to verify and repair the disk if necesssary, or reinstal OS.

Since I installed OSX Lion on my MacBook Pro, sometimes after login, the colored wheel keeps turning and I can't do anything. When I click on some icon or in the menu, no happens.
After a long time (more than 1 hour), I decide to switch off my Mac holding the button down and when I boot and log in again, it works normally.
Remark: When I logoff, I do not ask to keep my open programs for the next session.

wierd one this... a stereo mix (rendered as a stereo interleaved aiff) plays back fine in preview, itunes and when dropped onto the arrange window. however, when it is auditioned from the Sample Editor or from the Audio Window it plays back in mono.
