Macbook Pro shutting off

I split my hard drive using Bootcamp and created a small partition for windows. The sole purpose of this was to play an mmorpg. When playing the game, the computer seems to get extremely hot, and will completely and without warning shut off. I have a cooling pad underneath with two additional fans, but it's still getting really hot. I've heard that it might be the graphics card being to weak, but I'm playing the game on the lowest graphics setting and it still hasn't helped, so I don't really know if it's the heat, bootcamp, the graphics card or something else.

While I'm no expert in the Mac gaming arena I understand that many games are demanding on the processor and RAM capacity.
Two possibilities: Did you allocate enough space in the partition for temporary files needed while playing the game? Do you have enough RAM installed? If either of these is minimal there may be more heat producing activity than might otherwise be the case.

Macbook Pro shut off and won't turn on or charge?

I purchased my Macbook Pro August 1st 2012 at Best Buy and in April it shut off for no reason and it wouldn't charge. Apple replaced the battery cable and my Macbook worked for a couple of weeks, then in May same thing happened and Apple replaced the MLB, a couple days later the same thing happens and Apple replaces the Magsafe board with cable. Then a few days later specific keys on the keyboard stop working and Apple replaces the topcase with keyboard. Now 120 days later my Macbook Pro shuts off and won't charge for the 4th time. My Macbook is now out of warranty but I don't think I should pay since this is the 4th time my MacBook Pro shuts off for no reason and won't charge. Yes I already tried reseting the smc, still didn't work. What could be causing this and is there anyway Apple will cover this since is the 4th time it shuts off for no reason?

Call Apple Customer relation and explain your situation. Have your receipts for the work that was already preformed on it and ask them to replace it with a new unit.

Issues With MacBook Pro Shutting Off

I have been having troubles the past couple of days with my MacBook Pro shutting off when running on battery power.
MacBook Pro OSX 10.4.11. 2.16 Intel Core Duo. 1 G Ram.
I will have plenty of battery charge and then "poof", computer just goes black and has no power. It does turn back on, but gets annoying. Everything runs fine when plugged into the wall.
Anyone have any ideas of what may be causing this?

How old is your machine? This sort of thing is covered under warranty (or apple car). I got a new one about a year ago that way. Apple WILL ask for number of charge cycles. Believe it or not, high numbers can be good because it says that you have actually been using the battery and it's not just dead from sitting unused.
It sounds like you have a dead cell. Your battery is separated into several compartments. Your charge looks fine until that cell is actually needed. At that point, CLUNK. Nothing works.

Macbook Pro shutting off when closed - Mountain Lion

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion and now my macbook pro shuts off instead of sleeps everytime i close the screen and needs to be re-booted when screen is re-opened. Any one had the same issue and any known fixes?

Check System Preferences --> Energy Saver and make sure you do not have the sleep sliders set to "Never".
This may pertain to either or both Battery and/or Power Adapter tabs in System Preferences.

MacBook Pro shuts off immediately after startup

My MacBook Pro shuts off immediately after I start it. It gets to the Apple logo on the grey screen and it shuts down. I have tried launching it in safe mode, resetting the NVRAM settings, nothing works.. Has anyone witnessed similar problems ? What can I do to fix this problem ? Help is gladly appreciated.

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

boot your MacBook Pro from your grey Mac OS Install DVD. When the desktop appears, select Utilities from the menu bar, and then select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Are you able to reach your login screen now?

Why does my MacBook Pro shut off when I close it?

When I am done using my MacBook Pro I would usually just shut the lid and the MacBook would then go into sleep mode. In other words later when I pick it up and open it the MacBook screen will light and I can begin using it immediately. However, lately when I shut the lid the MacBook will shut off completely and I will need to push the power button to turn it on again. I am curious as to what may be causing this? MacBook Pro shuts off when unplugged.

For the past week my MacBook charger has been not functioning correctly. It only charged my computer when it was the the right position. I figured there was a short in the wires and was just going to pick up a new one. Last night however, the charger stopped working completely. I tried moving it around for about an hour until i just gave up and figured there was no hope. As soon as i shut the MacBook though, the charger light came on, but again when i moved the wire too much, it turned off. As soon as the charger light turned off, so did my MacBook. And i thought it was weird since there was still about 20% battery life, and it turned back on fine, but the date got reset to the year 2000 and it made me put in my wifi info again, which has never happened. I shrugged it off and really didnt think much of it though until it happened again today. This afternoon i plugged my Macbook in and it was and the charger was working fine after i found the right position to put it in. I let it charge for a few hours while i was out, and when i got home i used my Macbook for about two hours before i decided to move the Mac, causing my charger to move and stop working. And my MacBook imediately shut off again, exactly how it did the night before. What is causing my Mac to do this? How do i fix it? Its about 2 years old and this is the first time anything like this has happened to it! Please help me, I'm not good with computers at all so i have no idea what to do. By the way i dont think its the battery since when i turn it back on it runs just fine without being plugged in. It only turns off when it has been charging and then stops.

Borrow a friend's MagSafe Charger or try with the ones in the Apple Store. Sorry I wasn't clear from your post if you purchased a new charger yet.
Also clean the contacts on the MagSafe port and the charger side.
Apple recommends:

Be careful not to get any cotton fibers stuck in the pin receptacle. You may use isopropyl alcohol to aid in cleaning the connectors as well. My 2011 macbook pro shuts off all the time!

My 2011 macbook pro started shutting off with increasing frequency. It was very frustrating. I installed mavericks and now it seems to shut off about every 5 minutes! Only if I'm working, if it's streaming it seems fine. I think it would be impossible to actually get work done. I've read many others are having the same problem and taking theirs in for costly ineffective repairs. I can't afford to pay Apple to "chase it's tail".I may just go PC. Has anyone found out what the issue really is and how to fix it?

2008 Macbook Pro shuts off immediately

After a car trip back to college, I went to wake my Macbook Pro from sleep. After staring at a black screen for a while, I held down the power button for a few seconds, plugged it into the power adapter and tried turning it on.
I then removed the adapter and battery, reset the SMC by holding the power button for 10+ seconds, and then put the battery back in and plugged in the adapter.
Every time I press the power button, I hear it start to turn on, the sleep light flashes on like usual, and under a second later the noise suddenly stops and the light shuts off, and I can press the button again to have the same thing happen. The screen never flashes on. The battery is at 3 out of 5 lights, but the same thing happens whether the battery is in, the computer is plugged in, or both. If I hold the power button, the sleep light stays on until I let go, or about 8 seconds, whichever comes first.
The computer is at slightly below room temperature, so there's no overheating going on.
Any thoughts?

Also, while at Apple Genius Bar/service desk, they trouble shot the MBP by removing RAM and starting up with, without and other combinations... In my case, to no avail- thus the determination that board was bad.
You on the otherhand have recently modified the physical configuration and this should not be ignored as part of your resolution process.
I heartily recommend the Apple store / GeniusBar help desk approach, as it totally resolved my particular issues, where-as in the case of independant repair facilities I personnaly have dealt with in the past, the solution(s) were questionable and expensive.

I have a 15" Macbook Pro 2.4GHz running OS X 10.6.8.
I have a brand new (4 week old) battery and brand new charger (Battery was replaced because the OEM battery swelled up and started to split open, which also happened on my prior two Macbook Pro 17").
I leave the laptop on 24/7, while plugged into the charger. Every single day, the laptop shuts down without notice, while I'm not using it, and with nothing running, except Google Chrome on occasion. When I return to use the laptop, it will not turn on with any kep press or by pushing the power button, but the MOMENT you unplug the charger from the side, it turn on instantly, WITHOUT using the power button.
The battery works flawlessly, holds a charge and lasts a long time, and then recharges as normal, so it doesn't appear to be the battery; and the charger obviously works because it's keeping the battery charged every day 24/7...so why is my laptop shutting off EVERY single day, twice a day or more? It's nothing in my energy saving settings, nor is it a software error. I have also reset the PRAM which did nothing.

Turn on macbook pro then went to pages then screen went black with botton light still flashing
need to hold power button for light to go offf
after reboot, it loads onto the same screen as sleep then shuts off in 30 seconds

Try popping it on charge for 15 min and then pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds.
Mine did the same thing yesterday.

I had the logic board replaced 11 months ago because it started to shut off more and more until it refused to boot up again.
Now I am going through the same problem. Is this common?

OK, in that case:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion will not solve the problem.
