Macbook pro sleep/wake up problem

I got macbook pro late 2011 edition and I started to experience problems with it after two month of usage. After I close the lid of my macbook pro and let it sit over night it wont start properly. When I will open the lid my screen will show different colors or will duplicate itself couple times and the only fix would be if I will close and open the lid again. I read that its logic board issue so I went to apple and they replaced it. Trouble went away. After two month It came back again. Each day. I installed windows and set it up as primary os that will start, and it still continue to happen. Now I definitely can say that its not OSX bug but hardware issue. Did anyone had the same issue? I already replaced the board and it came back so there should be something else also?

This is one of the situations that i am having when i open my laptop in the morning.

  • MacBook Pro Sleep/Wake from sleep problem

As of today I have been experiencing a strange problem with my MBP. I can't wake my MBP when I open the screen although the machine is running. I also realized that I can't put it to sleep mode when I select it from the menu. Also, strangely, when I close the display to put it in sleep mode, the light stays on, instead of blinking. I already reset the power manager and the parameter RAM. I also have all my software updated. Any help would be appreciated.

I searched for Macbook Pro sleep issues since I am having one with my brand new 2.4 MBP.
I adjusted the sleep mode so it doesn't "safe sleep" because that took far too long for my needs. Before and after doing so, however, after the computer goes to sleep (pulsing light), I have taken it out of its bag and noticed the Apple lit up and it making noise. It wakes when I open the lid again but I am concerned it never slept soundly.
I have Bluetooth wake from sleep OFF so that's not the issue.
Has anyone else had concerns that their MBP is not sleeping soundly? I don't want to damage this computer, but I cart it back and forth to work every day i my backpack, and I need to be comfortable that it's parked and asleep during transit.

  • Macbook Pro -- sleep and wakeup problems

If I fold the screen down when leaving my Macbook pro 8,1 (ML 8.1) and then open it again within a few minutes, it will not "wake up".  If I continuously open and close it, the small LED on the front goes bright when I close it and dim when I open it.  If I leave it closed for several minutes, it will usually wake up on opening, but not always.  This particular Mac did the same thing under 10.7 and 10.6.  I've heard of the same problem from others, and I have the same problem on a Macbook 2,1, although it is less frequent on that sysem.  This does not happen on my iMac or Mini.
Sleep also did not work properly on a G5 from 2005, and I was told by Apple technicians at the time that Apple "broke" sleep around then, and never got it working properly again.
So I'm not expecting a fix, but has anyone found a reliable workaround, other than leaving the system in "sleep" mode for several minutes?

In regards to the trackpsd, read this Apple support article:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203171
Open up the MBP and inspect the battery.  It resides under the trackpad and if it has expanded, it will interfere with the trackpad,, If that is the case, replace the battery.
Also a very thorough cleaning of the trackpad will restore functionality.
In regards to the other issue, I suggest a reinstall of the OSX.
    Ciao.

  • My MacBook pro wont wake up from sleep. The screen is blank at all times, but I can hear the fan for 5 sec then everything stops. Please help! I don't kno what to do.

My MacBook pro is about 3 yrs old. It is a 2008 model right before the new design came out. Recently I closed it up which puts it to sleep and a couple minutes later when I opened it up the screen stayed blank but could hear the fan running but then the power clicked like it was shutting down and I could hear nothing more. My power supply is working and I have already tried resetting it. Can anyone help me? I don't live exactly near a Mac store to get help.

Before resorting to an LB change-out, try this, as it has fixed many of the "silver-key" Macbook Pros with wake-from-sleep issues:
    1) To get the computer running, do an SMC reset. Instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Your MBP model uses the first option under the subhead, "Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)"
    2) If you get it running, go to System Preferences > Network and select your Airport connection
    3) In the result main pane, click the "Advanced..." button.
    4) You should be looking at a window with multiple tabs at the top; the "Airport" tab (far left) should be active---if not, make it so.
    5) There is a panel showing "Prefered Networks." Use the "minus" button below that window to eliminate any networks that you don't need to access on more than a weekly basis. I'm down to two: the home Airport Extreme Base Station and the network for a museum at which I volunteer once a week.
    5) Click "OK" and close System Preferences.
Now try letting it sleep and see it if wakes up.
When this happened to my Late 2007 MBP, I used Console to read system.log and found that, on waking, the compuer was looking for the wireless network at a lodge where I'd stayed weeks earlier and miles away. Clear the morass of old networks and keeping the list short has completely cured my wake-from-sleep issues.
The steps I listed take less time to do than to read, and are within the ability even of novice Mac users.
If that doesn't work, you may need to seek professional help. If you take it to an Apple Store and they recommend a logic board replacement, ask about a "Depot Repair." Instead of replacing the logic board on-site (which will whack you to the tune of US$700-1100), they send the computer to a central Apple refurb facility that fixes whatever they find wrong for a flat fee of about US$315 (last time someone reported using the service here). Turnaround is about one working week, and people who have taken of this service have reported being very pleased with the outcome.

I HAVE A PROBLEM. PROBLEM IS how to solve this problem i have uploaded in .... all the time few days later on i face this problem in safari..... anyone can help me please.....thanks

This is a scam. Do not phone these people, at best they will charge you for unnecessary 'cleaning' and at worst they will gain access to your Mac and steal your data. You've probably managed to install some 'adware' which is producing this fake warning. 'Adwaremedic' should remove it and is safe to use - please see

  • HT4906 my iPhoto i can't open it on my macbook pro what is the problem?

my iphoto i can't open it on my macbook pro what is the problem?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

Do you have MMS turn on in Settings?
Are you provisioned by your carrier to use MMS?
Lastly, give your phone carrier a call, as MMS is a carrier feature.

  • Firefox is unresponsive when I open my Macbook Pro or wake it up from sleeping. Is there a fix for this problem?

Whenever I open up my Macbook Pro, Firefix is unresponsive. I can see all of my tabs, but nothing (except the top pull-down menus) are clickable. If I wait a few minutes it seems to work again, but I usually have to force quit. Anyone else have this problem?

Firefox uses plugin-container.exe to run Flash and other plugins. The theory is that if the plugin were to crash, it would not crash all your tabs, just any active plugins. Are you getting a message that a plugin crashed?
If I understand the problem correctly, Firefox is hanging or freezing when trying to open a link, and you are exiting Firefox, after which it won't start up again until you kill firefox.exe in the Task Manager.
Have you noticed any pattern to when Firefox freezes or stalls?
How are you exiting Firefox (for example, from the menu vs. red X button vs. Ctrl+Alt+Delete)?
In case you haven't seen it, this article might be useful: [[Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix]].

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro sleep and external display problem

I recently upgraded to the new 2010 15 inch core i7 Macbook Pro. The problem i have is that it will not detect an external display (23inch Cinema) after waking from sleep. This happens after using the display to extend the desktop and also when using the Macbook in closed mode.
I've managed to get it to detect the display only after either restarting the Macbook completely or by going into energy saver and switching to dedicated graphics then going back to detect display.
It seems that when on integrated graphics it doesn't register that an external display is connected. If i leave a program open and running that causes the dedicated graphics to kick in then it works ok. If i close all programs, shut the macbook pros lid, computer sleeps and external display shuts off. If i click the mouse to wake with lid closed, apple logo lights, machine starts up few seconds later macbook returns to sleep. If i open the screen the machine wakes as normal but the external monitor doesn't.
Any help is much appreciated as its starting to frustrate me now...
    Many thanks
oh and im running OSX 10.6.3

I thought it was intermittent to begin with until i started looking into it. By leaving programs open, like aperture, before i put the machine to sleep it appears to wake the external monitor up without a problem. If i shut all programs or leave basic things open like safari and mail which don't require the dedicated graphics, then upon wake it wont register an external screen is connected.
Manually detecting displays in settings doesn't work.
Disconnecting and reconnecting mini display port doesn't work.
Turning off power to cinema display and powering back up doesn't work.
To get the display going again its either 1) turn off macbook pro and re-boot or 2) re-start the machine then the display is automatically recognised. Or 3) launch a programme that kicks in dedicated graphics then manually go in and detect displays again..... like magic the display then springs to life.
    No ideas anyone??

  • New macbook pro wont wake from sleep

Hi everyone, I got the new macbook pro 15 inch with retina display about a month ago, the problem is it will not wake from when the screen goes to sleep, not all the time but enuff for me to want to throw it out the window, when it is in sleep mode i go to touch the touch pad then the keybord lights up like its about to work then dies and i end up tuning the computer off from the off button.
I have been on the phone with apple for many hours and its doing my head in and losing my mind and they have done a re set, a re install and also after that didnt work we wiped the computer and downloaded the software directley from apple and started fresh again " AND STILL DOES NOT WAKE FROM SLEEP " i have taken it back to jb hifi where i got it from in Liverpool westfields and they said sorry we cant help you and apple are saying you have to take the computer to apple and leave it with them for a few weeks, very hard for me as i use the computer everyday to run my business and i feel ripped off big time they should replace it straight away.
Has anyone had this problem before ? any ideas ? thank you very much for you time.  Dave

Apple has replaced systems for others after several tries at repairs have failed.  Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider and take it in for service, as Apple support directed.  Apple would have replaced the system outright in the first 14 days of ownership. After that, you need to give them the opportunity to repair it under warranty.
Since you use it for business, have you asked if the Apple Authorized Service Provider can provide a loaner? Or considered renting one for the short period it would be repaired? Or talked to the Apple Authorized Service Provider about expediting repair?

  • Retina MacBook Pro sleep problem since 10.9.2

Ever since updating to 10.9.2 earlier in the week my macbook refuses to wake from sleep each morning.
Having looked at the console logs it seems that perhaps the problem is related to it not actually managing to go to sleep properly.
I closed the lid on the computer at about 19:07 as can be seen in the first of these console dumps. I put the laptop in my bag and went home, where the laptop stayed closed in my bag all night. Apparently the computer awoke 70 minutes later. In the morning, back at the office, I left the lid open for a good 5 minutes before deciding to reboot at 9:37, so it seems that the computer was indeed turned off as there was no activity in these minutes.

  • Macbook Pro wont wake from sleep

My '08 MacBk Pro wont wake from sleep. This has happened several times since I installed Lion. In the past I have simply clicked several times on the trackpad until it woke, but on several occasions it actually shut down after entering sleep mode, (It went to black screen, the little pulsing sleep light was dark and I got no responce to clicks on trackpad or keyboard). When this happens I can usually re-start the Mac with a hard re-boot to resolve the issue. This time however, I can't get the computer to turn on. I've tried pressing the power button once, and all that happens is that the sleep light blinks once along with a the normal whiring sound you hear when the computer is ramping up, but this lasts only a second and then it goes back to black screen/dead Mac. I also tried holding down the power button as I would for a hard reset at which point I get several blinks from the pulsing sleep light and then nothing. I also tried unplugging the cable, removing the battery and pressing the power button for 5 seconds, then reconnecting battery and cable and pressing the power button, (I got these steps from an article posted here on the furums). BTW, I have disconnected all external drives, etc. before trying any of these steps. Please let me know if there's something else I might try to revive my Mac.

Follow up: I took the MacBook Pro for repair and the tech found that the logic board was damaged - probably due to so many hard resets I had to perform to get the machine to load when starting it up after shutdown or restart. I replaced the logic board, (Very expensive) and its been running fine for 3 days. However, the freezing problem has just started again and I'm worried that having to perform a hard reset to get the macbook to load will cause more damage.
The problem that's occuring is as follows: When I start the computer up after shutdown, or sometimes after restart, the desktop fails to load and the spinning color wheel appears. I can see the dock and the main upper toolbar but my desktop is blank and my external hard drives do not load. I can't make any selections with the cursor because of the eternally spinning color wheel, so my only option is to perform a hard reset by depressing the power button until the unit shuts down. When I start it up again the system loads correctly. I have tried ejecting my external drives before shutting down, but this doesn't make a difference. This problem started when I installed Lion OS and got continually worse until the computer finally shut down for good and I had to replace the logic board. Now it's starting to happen again.
Has anyone else experienced this problem running Lion on a MacBook Pro early '08? If so, please help me find a solution for the freezes.
