MacBook Pro slower after upgrading to mountain lion?
MacBook Pro 2009
Factory setting: Snow Leopard
Just 2 days ago, I reformatted my macbook back to its factory settings. Processing speed was fast and opening of apps does not seem to lag. Booting up and shutting down only took seconds. After reformatting my macbook, I upgraded my iOS from snow leopard to mountain lion and that is where the problems arises.
1. Booting up and shutting takes much longer time? It used to be less than 10 seconds however, now it takes about 40-50 seconds.
2. Opening of apps seemed to be slower. Example: When I open my iTunes, the app will bounce a few times and takes a few seconds (longer than before) for the app to appear.
3. Whenever I try to select something when surfing net or doing some other programs, the mouse cursor will never fail to change to the "colourful ball" which I will have to wait for it to load.
Can anyone help here?
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Why has my Safari and MAIL slowed after upgrading to Mountain Lion on my MacBookPro ?
Why has my Safari and MAIL slowed after upgrading to Mountain Lion ? I have mid-2009 MBPro and have very fast Internet access router.
I have noticed the same thing on my MAC. Mail has become very "clunky"- Before Mountain Lion, whenever I clicked on a msg or a function (delete), it would respond immediately. With Mountain Lion there is an unacceptable hesitation. What is going on with this latest update?

MacPro usb very slow after upgrading to mountain lion
When backing up with Carbon Copy to an external USB drive very slow, eventually the system freezes. After upgrading to Mountain Lion its been a complete pain when trying to do back-ups. Does Apple have a USB software fix for this?
Disconnect the external drive and see whether there's an improvement.

My 2011 Macbook has become exceedingly slow after upgrading to Mountain Lion.
I have a 2011 Macbook which has become really slow after I upgraded to Mountain Lion in March. At first it wasn't that bad, but it's getting worse and my computer has begun to overheat even if I'm only using Google Chrome. I used to be able to keep multiple applications open at once and never closed many of them, but now if I want to get anything done I have to use the absolute minimum. My CPU has reached 86 degrees Celsius and temperatures slightly below this seem to be the average, even if I've only been on for ten minutes. It heats up VERY quickly. The fan has been operating at 2919 rpm, but it has said that for days and I don't know if this number should be changing? (I know that normal is about 2000 rpm, so I know it shouldn't be that high anyway.)
I'm currently working on cleaning out my harddrive of duplicate and unnecessary files and I plan on restoring to the default settings and backing everything up on an external harddrive... but are there other things I should be doing to speed my computer back up, like good programs to clean out my computer's temporary memory on a regular basis? The problem seems to have come on pretty fast though, so I don't know if there could be something else wrong with it and if I should take it into an Apple-approved repair place.
Also, I'm not one to illegally download/pirate things from sketchy websites, so I highly doubt a virus is the cause, especially given that Macs rarely get viruses.
Any suggestions of what to do and what programs/apps to install would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!I have a 2011 Macbook which has become really slow after I upgraded to Mountain Lion in March. Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro Freezing since upgrading to Mountain Lion
Hey all,
I've been researching this issue extensively and it seems as if it would be most efficient if I started my own post instead of cluttering someone else's.
I upgraded to Mountain Lion within a week of its release. In the past two weeks, my computer has crashed 3 to 4 times. I can still move my mouse, and if I have an app like Spotify open it will continue to play music through the speakers. However, the computer is frozen and I cannot type/click/control the computer. The only way to get it back is by pressing and holding down the power key and rebooting.
Called AppleCare and went to the "Genius" Bar multiple times; neither helped.
I ran EtreCheck on my computer and below are my results:

Should I be concerned with items marked as "failed" or "not loaded?" My MacBook does not crash daily (more like once or twice a week), and each time I have been doing very simply processes, like surfing the web with Chrome or writing something in Word or listening to Spotify. Here's an updated report reflecting fewer errors that I took this afternoon. I hope someone on this message board can help...

MacBook Pro Slow after upgrading OS
Hey guys, I'm having a problem my MacBook Pro is running incredibly slow after upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I started having the problem originally after upgrading to the latest version of Mavericks. It is just incredibly slow for some reason, things are lagging upwards of 2-3 minutes I got sick and tired of it so I installed a brand new 120 GB SSD from PNY, and installed Snow Leopard because that's what originally came with the computer, I figured it'd work best. When I installed the 10.6.3 disk everything absolutely FLEW! Then after I upgraded to 10.6.8 it is like frozen molasses and I don't know why. It's a fresh install and doesn't have anything going. However when I open up the Activity Monitor it says that my CPU Usage is being ate up by system processes and I don't know what to do. I also started it up in Safe Mode and it works just fine like that. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I've got a Mid 2010 MBP with a 2.66 GHz Intel Cor 2 Duo and 4 GB ram. I upgraded my HD to a 120 GB PNY SSD.And make sure there's enough free storage space.
Click your Apple menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space. Less can slow your Mac down.
Make sure your Mac's software is up to date. Click Software Update from your Apple drop down menu.
Repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility located in your Applications > Utilities folder.
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Repair Disk Permissions
This can take awhile so don't be alarmed.
Restart your Mac after Disk Utility is finished
Reindex Spotlight: Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes
Check to see if the startup disk needs repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If Disk Utility reports errors, start up from your Mac install disc to make repairs. -
macbook pro seem not working, not either go to startup screen just freeze on apple icon.
and cannot also password for firmware are wrong when i type it in.
how can i know the keyboard problem if the password are confirm right?Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps. -
Logic Pro slow after SSD and mountain lion update.
1 week ago i was mixing a project of 90 tracks, and every run really well, no "system overloads" at all.
Sometimes the 320gb 5400rpm HDD give away a message that it was running a little slow and had a hard time dealing with all the 90 tracks, but it still work'd well.
3 days ago i installed a new samsung 830 256GB SSD and updated from lion to mountain lion and wow!
Everything is really fast, except logic pro.
Im now running a project with only 35 audio tracks with EQ,compressor and 2 busses with reverb.
It should work fine, SSD with 2,3 dualcore i5 cpu and 8gb ram but no, i am only able to play a quarter of a secound before i get the anoying "system overload" message....
Does somebody know what could be wrong? Mixing is my job soo this is a real problem for me.
Thanks! Are you getting sudden motion sensor related stops? It may be best to tern your SMS off, as there is no need for SMS in a drive with no moving parts.
They would look like the error here
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3806031?start=0&tstart=0
if there is no mention of the SMS I wouldn't bother although, no harm would be done if you did anyway.
You disable SMS by doing the following:
Launch Terminal
Type the following at the command line: sudo pmset -a sms 0
Hit return and enter your password -

Why is my macbook running slower after loading OSX mountain lion?
Just downloaded OSX Mountain Lion a few weeks ago and my laptop seems to be running slower - delayed window filling, etc. Anyone else notice this problem or have any solutions? Should I just go in to see a genius?
TIA,
ddhallFirst, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
One possible cause of a slow user interface is a large number of image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons. If you have more than a dozen or so such files, move them to another folder.
Otherwise, take these steps when you notice the slowdown.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Select the 50 or so most recent messages in the log. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. -

Ever since upgrading my OS, my computer is running extremely slow. Any tips to improve performance?
How much RAM is your system running? Do a Disk Repair and see if that resolves any issues.

Why is my Macbook Pro slow to sleep in Mountain Lion?
When I choose sleep from the Apple menu it takes approx. 30 seconds before it decides to go to sleep. It gives me no notification that it is going to sleep until 30 seconds later when the screen goes black. Same thing if I close the lid, I can open it up again and begin to work on the machine again with it sleeping 20 seconds later. Sleep has always been almost instantaneous on all of my other macs.
