MacBook Pro Software/Gaming software help??

Ok, First of all im planning in getting myself a MacPro 13" This xmas for myself, And i had a couple questions.
First of all:
1. Does Mac Pro already come with Mac OS X Snow Leopard?? Or do we have to buy the software also?
2. Would it be used for a gaming computer also? I play a little computer games here and then, just wanted to know.

I agree with Templeton, if the primary purpose of how you're using the machine is for gaming then you really want to consider the 15" MacBook Pro (starts @ $1999). While the 9400M is a pretty capable GPU, it's still sharing system RAM.
If price is a big issue, here is a great deal via Apple's refurbished online store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB470LL/A
It's the revision of the MacBook Pro before they went to the built in battery but it gets you into a larger screen, with the dedicated GPU. It's also $1299!

An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.

If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.

  • How I could tranfer files from my iPad to my MacBook Pro without any software?

I never found a method how to do transfering files between iPad and MacBook Pro without any software.
    Exist some method?
If you know how to do it, please help me as faster as you can!
    THANK YOUU!!

    Hi,
Unfortunately general file transfer is not currently supported on iOS devices. If you have apps installed on your iPad that support file sharing, you can exchange files with these apps by connecting your iPad to your computer and selecting the Apps tab on the device's page in iTunes. If you scroll down here, you will find a list of apps, that support file sharing, and you can copy file to/from the particular app, but there's no way of accessing the iPad's file system without 3rd party software, and even if you use one, it will be able to access the file storage areas of the file system, but not the OS root folder. You need a jailbroken device to do that.
iTunes also copies all your photos and videos from your devices. The only official way of moving file between iOS devices is with iTunes. If you consider iTunes a software (it is one) than there's absolutely no way for that, if your device is not jailbroken.
Just to be clear, I'm against jailbreaking, because it makes your device vulnerable, and can create a lot of problems, that would not exist on a factory device.
    Hope this helps
    Regards,
    Gábor

I have a macbook pro and the software with snow leopard only has upgraded to 10.5.8, do I need to purchase mountain lion to upgrade to 10.6.8?

Your machine likely can't handle Mountain Lion 10.8 nor 10.7, if it does it will run slow and very higly likely a lot of your third party software and drivers for printers and scanners won't function anymore.
It's because your 10.5 era (or earlier) machine is rather dated, hardware has advanced and is faster, the newer OS X versions have gotten bloated.
I do recommend you call Apple via phone and order the 10.6.3 white retail disks, backup your personal data off the 10.5.8 Mac to a external storage drive and when the disk arrives, stick it in and run the upgrade installer.
Once that's finished, reboot and use Software Update to get to 10.6.8 and stay there. You can buy stuff from AppStore, just don't upgrade to 10.8 (or 10.7) as thats when you'll have issues.
10.6 should run your currrently installed PPC software and hardware drivers. But 10.7/10.8 will not.
10.6 is receiving security and other updates from Apple as more than 50% of OSX users are still on it.

When trying to update my new Macbook Pro with Retina through Apple's software update application, I get the error:
The update "MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0" can't be applied
The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading.
I've already went through the process twice to download this update.

Same type of error, but getting 90% downloaded and error message that the update cannot be saved. But it then goes to the screen to apply, but with 90% only - no instructions that it will only download 90% and the rest will come during the update - not going to apply.

  • Does the macbook pro come with software similar to excel and word ?

i am not familiar with the mac computers and i was wondering if the macbook pro comes with software such as word and excel similar to a microsoft office?

    No, it does not.
You need Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

Please help me how to install mac drivers for windows7 64 bit???

You either download drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant and save to USB FAT disk, or you insert and use 10.6.x OS X DVD when in Windows and install and run the SETUP from there.

Step 4: Install the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows
After installing Windows, install Mac-specific drivers and other software for Windows using your Mac OS X installation disc.  The Mac OS X disc installs drivers to support Mac components, including AirPort,built-in iSight camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and thefunction keys on an Apple keyboard.
The Mac OS X disc also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows and theApple Boot Camp system tray item.
To install the Boot Camp drivers:
1 Eject the Windows installation disc.
2 Insert the Mac OS X disc.  If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
    3 Follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows  Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
Windows that appear only briefly during the installation don’t require your input.
If nothing appears to be happening, there may be a hidden window that you mustrespond to. Check the taskbar and look behind open windows.
Important: Do not click the Cancel button in any of the installer dialogs.
4 After your computer restarts, follow the instructions in the Found New Hardware  Wizard to update your software drivers (Windows XP only).
5 Follow the instructions for any other wizards that appear.
6 Check for updated Boot Camp drivers by using Apple Software Update or going to www.apple.com/support/bootcamp.
If You Have Problems Installing the Device Drivers
If it appears that the Boot Camp drivers weren’t successfully installed, try repairing them.
    To repair Boot Camp drivers:
1 Start up your computer in Windows.
2 Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
3 If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
4 Click Repair and follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows  Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
If you need to reinstall specific drivers, you can install one driver at a time. For example,if your built-in iSight camera isn’t working, you can reinstall just the iSight driver.
Individual drivers are in the Drivers folder on the Mac OS X installation disc.

So after many, many hours I think I've finally figured out how to successfully setup Mac OS X Lion on one partition, a seperate data partition, and Windows 7 Ultimate on a Bootcamp partition . Here is a screenshot of my setup on my 13" MacBook Pro
Thread with suggestions on Windows backup methods:

    Paragon CampTune
Paragon CampTune is a commercial product that is designed expressly for this task. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/ It consists of a downloadable ISO that needs to be burned to a disc and booted from in order to resize the partitions costs US$19.95.
    Securing Dual-System Configuration
Imaging is still the most affordable and robust way to secure computer data. Unfortunately Mac OS X backs up only HFS+ volumes, leaving Windows with dual-system configurations unsecured. You can permanently lose all of your data unless you have a Windows-compatible backup solution.
Paragon’s CampTune and Paragon’s Drive Copy for Mac can secure the entire dual-system configuration. CampTune creates traditional images of volumes or entire hard disks, Drive Copy can copy them to other disks. In case of an emergency, you can restore the previously created image or copy all your data back to its original state.
    GParted Live
GParted Live is similar to CampTune as it is also distributed as a bootable image that needs to be copied to a CD/DVD or USB flash drive. As free and open source software, distributed under the GPL, it will always be available free. Since it has more functions than CampTune, it may be harder for folks who are not as experienced with partitioning hard drives. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
    iPartition
Coriolis Systems' iPartition is a £29.95 ($44.95 US) utility that runs in Mac OS X and allows resizing of all of the relevant partition formats, including HFS+, FAT32, and NTFS. It provides a Mac-oriented user interface that may be easier to manage than some of the free utilities. As it is not capable of resizing the boot disk, it requires a bootable external disk or a boot DVD. (A tool to create a boot DVD is included.)
    Paragon Partition Manager
From the makes of CampTune is a commercial tool that is similar in functionality to GParted Live, but has a more polished/friendly user interface than GParted Live. Previously only the US$79.95 Professional version supported all the features required for this, but as of version 11 the US$39.95 Personal version has also been reported to work. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-personal/
    Winclone/Disk Utility
Winclone is a free tool for creating and restoring backup images of your Windows partition. One of its key features is that it can restore to a larger partition than the one the image was created from.
NOTE: Winclone has been discontinued, but for now remains available and capable of completing these tasks (including creating and restoring Windows 7 images).
Winclone updated to support Lion Winclone updates and download
Disk Utility can resize HFS+ (Mac OS) partitions, but is currently incapable of resizing NTFS partitions, so you could use it to reduce the size of the HFS+ partition and create a new larger placeholder MS-DOS (FAT) partition
    The full process would be:
    Backup Windows partition with Winclone.
(if the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one make sure you set the preferences in Winclone to save the image as an uncompressed dmg)
    Delete old Windows partition
    Resize current Mac Partition
Create new Windows partition as MS-DOS (FAT) in free space after Mac OS partition.
(If the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one an additional step is required: shrink the filesystem on the image by selecting Tools->Shrink Windows (NTFS) Filesystem)
Reboot your computer for the new Windows partition to mount properly (winclone may not restore if you don't reboot)
Restore Winclone partition over new Windows partition
An alternate Winclone based process is described in the External Guides section
    Native OS utilities
MR user Kazyua reports that you can use the disk management utilities provided with the current operating systems if you want to do it manually. Windows 7 and OS X both have partition resizing functions built in. In OS X, open Disk Utility and manually shrink the mac HFS+ partition by dragging the lower right corner. Then in windows go to the start menu and type "disk management" into the search box then hit enter. You should get an overview of the drives you have and the individual partitions. Right-clicking on the partition gives an "Extend Volume" option. The Windows NTFS volume should then be extended into the free space you created with Disk Utility. This method has not worked for other users, so try at your own risk.

If GTA IV believes the system is under specification even though the computer is powerful enough to run the game with higher settings, the following will fix this problem.
This will work if your problem looks like this: "resource usage 230/60" and you can't change any other setting
    Just follow the steps:
    Step 1: Create a text file named ‘commandline.txt’ (without the " ")
Step 2: Put the following statement inside it:
    i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 (with the -)
    i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0 (with the -)
Step 3: Open the main GTAIV folder (C/ program files (86)/ rockstar games/ GTA IV) and copy the commandline.txt file into it.
Step 4: locate the file "GTAIV.exe" (in GTA main folder)
Right click the file and select Properties
Under the shortcut tab, you will see an area that says Target
Modify the Target adding the command line after the last quotation mark (just add the statement you added in commandline.txt)
    (remember, i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 / i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0)
It should look something like this:
Make sure to add space between " and -"

  • MacBook Pro and  iMAC Software update

I need some help from my Apple Junkies.... So both my MacBook Pro and my iMAC are showing that there is new software that needs to updated which are apart of the OS X 10.9.4 update combo, take it my computer is updated to 10.9.4 but in the app update section it shows I need yo update the iTunes  11.4, iBook 1.0.1 and Safari 7.0.6... Now when you look at the bottom of the updates at the "Updates installed in the last 30 days" all of the above are updated.
But the issues are: I can't get rid of that red 1 for updates (yes I've tried putting the time into the future 6 months and longer no help) and
I'm trying to restore my iPad and Apple TV which neither MacBook Pro or iMac are allowing it because it is saying unable to connect to network which clearly I'm connected to the internet... I'm using Verizon for home internet as well.
    - I've tried installing the above individually but it keeps saying calculating yet no movement left it up for over 24 hours with numerous reboots... about ready to throw both out the window..

My guess is Google did something wrong, figured it out and fixed it. The suggestions feature went away in Safari for Google, but not for bing, and continued to work in Firefox. It is all fixed this morning. I happened to be using Google when it stopped functioning, it had nothing to do with updates to the Mac, since as it went south I restarted in an earlier Snow Leopard version and discovered it was not working there either. So it was a Google action that caused the mishap, nothing that Apple did. Anyway, all's well now.

  • Why won't my applications purchased from the itunes store launch on my macbook pro? My software is up to date.

I purchased a few games from the app store recently. I have updated all of the software on my Macbook Pro but the applications will not launch. If the problem was contained within just one application, I could have fixed it, but neither of the applications will launch. I click on them, they turn blue, but that's it. I do not have an iPhone or iTouch with which to test the applications. Could somebody tell me what is wrong with my computer/the applications and how to fix them?!

Apps on the iTunes store are made for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch and not the Mac.
By any chance, do you mean the Mac App Store?
