MacBook (Pro) Software Update 1.1 stays in the update application

As of the release of the MacBook (Pro) update to fix some keyboard/mouse issues (I didn't notice any problems) I'm not getting rid of the update in the updater:
It installs, reboots and pops up again. I've done this process several times now and if you go to
Preferences -> Softwareupdate -> Installed updates
it is there twice.
After the first time the update got installed, the MacBook was not able to reboot. It stuck in the bootup process and I removed power after approx 15 minutes with a black screen.
After that "forced" reboot, it worked like before - except the broken software update.
That's what I found in the logs, but I've no idea...
8<--------------------------
Dec 25 12:07:48 macbook-pro Software Update[205]: Package Authoring Error: installation-check results requires a message
Dec 25 12:07:49: --- last message repeated 4 times ---

Dec 25 12:08:05 macbook-pro Software Update[205]: _choice_suvisible returned error: Undefined value
Anyone?

I have those same messages in the install.log.
My Software Update.log shows this:
2007-12-18 01:09:38 -0500: Installed "Security Update 2007-009" (1.0)
2007-12-24 12:18:26 -0500: Installed "Security Update 2007-009" (1.1)
After the first time the update got installed, the MacBook was not able to reboot. It stuck in the bootup process and I removed power after approx 15 minutes with a black screen.
Well, this is what fubar Software Update.
If you feel the update was installed properly, Software Update can be set to ignore the update.

You do not need to "sign up" for downloading updates. Just run Software Update and let it access them directly thru the App Store.

  • My MacBook Pro won't start up (stay in the apple with a loop screen)

Yesterday night, I reseted something (OptionCommand+RP) Then, the second time I turned on the mac, it stayed in the apple screen with a loop for 1 hour, then I forced to turn off it. Next morning, the problem still there.
    Anyone knows the solution?

Boot from your system install DVD, run Disk First Aid from your Disk Utility and repair your permissions.
If that does not work, try an Archive and Install.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

  • Motion crashes - Macbook Pro Software update and Firmware update

Anyone out there that is working with Motion 3.0.1 on one of the new Macbook Pros (Santa Rosa) and has installed both the Macbook Pro Software Update 1.0 and the EFI Firmware update (for the 15 inch models)???
Motion 3 crashes on the Macbook Pros with the MBP Software update installed (see thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1028746&tstart=45
The solution so far is to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch EXCEPT the software update 1.0. However, I'm trying to find out if anyone has installed the Firmware update, which requires the software update to be installed first, and if they are running smoothly.
    ???

I just restarted then tried to open InDesign again and it let me download a java update that seems to have fixed it.

How large is your HD and how much space do you have left?
Check out the following & do the necessary:
Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
    Try SU again.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

I also saw that it was up online but without any information as to what it's updating I'm holding off. My MBP is working fine and I'll let those who want to be on the bleeding edge d/l and try it before I opt for it.
I wish apple posted what the update is doing on these things instead of just saying its recommended. Its not like I need to know what line # is being updated within a given module, but rather that's fixing this issue, or that issue.

  • MacBook Pro Software Update Results in Singlu-User Mode

    Hello,
Since I have had problems before with Software update, I have decided to install one item at a time to find out which update packages cause problems.
When I installed the latest "MacBook Pro Software Update", which is strongly recommended, I ended up getting stuck with the single-user mode and now I cannot get out. When I boot, I get a console instead of a Graphical User Interface. I am really tired of Tiger. I have used Linux for the past 9 years and found it to be excellent. I expected much more from Mac OS X when I first bought my system two weeks ago. I already did an "Archive and Reinstall" and I don't want to do it again.
How can I go back to the usual GUI environment?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    K.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    K.

    Hello,
Here is the solution to the problem. It is simply due to XCode installation. For some reason, one needs to perform the "MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0" after an "Archive + Install" before installing any other software.
If Xcode is installed before the update, something gets messed and the computer keeps booting to a Console instead of the GUI.
    Hope this helps to others,
    K.

  • Apple MacBook/Pro Software Update 1.0?

On versiontracker.com, there is an update called Apple MacBook/Pro Software Update 1.0. The desciption says:
"This update enables file system journaling on MacBook and MacBook Pro notebook computers. Some MacBook and MacBook Pro systems were shipped with file system journaling turned off. Journaling is recommended on all Mac computers as a preventative measure against file corruption."
It is recommended for Mid 2007 MacBooks
I ran the Software Updater on my MacBook which I bought in June and this update did not come up as needed. Has anyone else installed this? If it does not come up in the Updater, does that mean I don't need it?
    Thom

Thom you might try going to Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility->click on the name of your HD (probably something like "Macintosh HD" unless you renamed it) in the left had corner and look at the bottom of the window under "Format:" It should read "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" If that's the case then you probably don't need to worry about it.

  • MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1

I am having the same issue many others are having in regards to the MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1 installing again, and again, and again, and again, ... Maybe you see the point.
I have browsed the Discussions, and tried some suggestions, (case sensitive) but it still installs, again and again, and again...
I am a little worried why Apple has not addressed this. This problem has existed since 12/18/2007. I think we have endured this long enough. If apple is not going to provide help, are there any users out there listening that have spent effort and found a solution.
    I am all Ears!!!
    Thanks, Steve

I have tried the solution listed here about case sensitive journaling. However, it did not help me.

  • MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1 continues to appear

This has been the first really strange issue since I upgraded to Leopard. Ever since the MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1 in Software Update, it continues to appear as if it was not installed. If I look at my installation log, it shows that I have installed it about 9 times since it was released. Here are the last few entries in my installation log:
2007-12-21 22:17:05 -0500: Installed "MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update" (1.1)
    2007-12-21 22:17:59 -0500: Installed "Security Update 2007-009" (1.1)
2007-12-21 22:26:34 -0500: Installed "MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update" (1.1)
2007-12-22 00:24:10 -0500: Installed "MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update" (1.1)
2007-12-23 04:15:00 -0500: Installed "MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update" (1.1)
2007-12-25 04:16:18 -0500: Installed "MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update" (1.1)
2007-12-26 04:28:09 -0500: Installed "MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update" (1.1)

2008-01-03 01:55:35 -0500: Installed "MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update" (1.1)
2008-01-05 22:32:22 -0500: Installed "MacBook MacBook Pro Software Update" (1.1)
Is it safe to ignore this update? What is going on? Is there something wrong with my system? I haven't noticed any other problems.. I have no idea how Mac OS X determines if I need an update or not.

    OK, here's what i did:
    1) navigate to the: /Library/Updates sub-directory
(as in: "Macintosh HD" - "Library" folder - "Updates" folder
    2) there should be a file named, "index.plist" - this is
the definition file for the update - i suspect this should
be removed by the Updater once the update is complete.
    3) rename the file (don't delete it) ... i renamed the
    file to, "index.plist.onhold"
you probably don't have to, but i rebooted the system, to
ensure nothing broke. afterwards, i did a "Software Update"
and it reported the system is up to date.

  • MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0.......yes or no?

i have the 2.2 verison macbook pro...
had some trouble with the 10.4.10 update...
kinda afraid that this new update will give me problems as well...
    anybody downloaded this yet?

Before you redo things and after a clone operation you did reboot from the clone, right? To be sure it works?
Tip: Pay for the full version, a) since it is good software and b) you get Smart Update so the next clone only updates changed files and instead of 2 hours it takes 10 minutes.
Tip 2: Don't clone to the entire 250 partition as it erases everything on there and thus if you store data on it too, it all gets erased. Make a partition on the drive equal to the mac HD in the computer.

Is anyone else getting this problem?

I have the exact same problem. So far it has showed that I have "installed" it 6 times, but it still comes up. At this point I am just dismissing it, but it has gotten annoying. Has anyone heard of a fix/remedy yet for this?
