MACBOOK PRO STARTING UP PROBLEMS

My Macbook pro is installes since one year with leopard, and all updates made. When i connect external second monitor DVI cable it takes up to 4 minutes before system starts up, whitescreen and after this time keyboards lijgts up and than the system startup and my desktop becomes visible. Who can help me, what do i need to do.
Booting up without the DVI connector connected sometimes same problem, sometimes very fast as in the past.

MacBook Pro start-up problem - intermittend shutdowns

3...4 times a week my brand-new MacBook Pro 15" Core2Duo refuses to start. It shuts down immediately (after a short sound). Switching on a several times (3...8x) -or- removing the battery solves this problem temporarily.
I think this isn't the "Random Shutdown" problem due to heat sink issues, because "my problem" occurs mainly at a "cold" device. You can see the detailed video here:

Note: This happens sporadically and unfortunately the Apple Service provider was not able to reproduce the problem. So they will not change the logic card. My MacBook Pro is now on repair for more than 2 weeks.
They ordered a new battery for me. I realy hope this is the root cause and not a slack joint or anything else.

I am having a simular problem, my Macbook Pro will only work when it is plugged in, one day in my physics class I was taking notes and my laptop went into hybernation and it didn't ever come out of it. The battery says it is fully charged too. How can I contact apple about my warrenty or something in Canada?

My fathers 2008 or 2010 Macbook pro will not turn on im pretty sure he is still running snow lepord. When i turn it on It gets to the white apple starting up screen and the spinning circle under the grey apple just keeps spinning. If there is anything you can tell me please let me know.

Oh, on the puch list I forgot to mention disconnecting all peripherals except the power adapter.
The first two steps you did are a good start. The next one, Disk Utility repair disk, is not difficult.
Boot the Recovery Partition.
          Press the power key and just after the bong
          hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R)
          until the Apple logo appears.
Start Disk Utility.
          Click on the icon for your internal disk (Macintosh HD).
          Does the S.M.A.R.T. status say “Verified”?
          If not then stop and post back. Your disk is failing and needs to be replaced.
          Click on Repair Disk.
          If it reported it found errors and fixed them then run Repair Disk again.
          When the disk is healthy is should finish with
          “The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.”
          If it won’t repair correctly stop and post back.
Try rebooting normally.
Reinstalling OS X takes more time but is also simple.
          If it repaired OK and it still does not boot normally
          then reboot the Recovery Partition again and reinstall OS.
By this point, if the HW is healthy then you should be back on your feet.
If not post back before proceeding.

My Macbook Pro started running really slow

This week my Macbook Pro started running super slow, taking ages to open programs and giving me the color wheel alllll the time. I've never had problems like this before! I'm not running many applications or doing anything unusual but it's just running extra slow. Once or twice it has also totally gone to sleep while I was in the middle of using it, and I had to wake it back up. It has also been getting really hot and the battery life seems worse...! This is all new, I'm using my computer just as I always have but it suddenly has issues.
The only thing it has been doing for a while is sometimes the screen will go blue - this either corrects itself within a few seconds or if I close my Macbook and then reopen it, the screen is back to normal. This is very rare though and I don't know if it's related to the slowness problem.
What can I do to fix this??

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault. The "etrecheck" output is irrelevant.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

the mouse also gets 'stuck' in logic precipitating force quits.
i run osX 10.6.8 on a 2007 macbook pro that has had 2 motherboards replaced autumn 2010.
my troubleshooting has been: restart, pRam and safe boot, also checking a 'test' account to find the same issues extant.
pRam restart caused airport to quit and say there is no airport card, and wouldn't respond untill another reboot.

You don't say which year you have, however...
...there are known problems with the mid-2010 models (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) as well as early and late 15" 2011 models (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0).
Apple has taken ownership of the problems with the 2010 model but, unfortunately, the free logic board replacement for that model has probably long expired for you - three years after date of purchase.
One the 2011 models Apple has admitted no defect. You'll just have to skim the articles to get an overview of the problems that people are having (usually showing up as screen glitches at first and then going downhill from there).

So, about a week ago my macbook pro started having lots of issues: wifi connectivity, slow performance, sound issues, spotlight wasn't working. After going through the issues with apple support, they decided the best course of action was to erase the hard drive and do a reinstall. Since I have a recent backup this seemed like a good enough option. They were kind enough to send me a copy of the snow leopard disk to do the install since we couldn't get it to complete through the disk utility. Not sure why, since it says we are fully connected, it just never completed.
Anyway, so now that you have the background here is the new issue. The macbook pro keeps spitting out the disk I'm trying to install from. Disk utility and using the 'Startup Disk' function from the apple menu doesn't read the disk.
Can anyone suggest a solution to this vexing problem?

Today, my Macbook pro started freezing up while I was using safari. This happens to me often, so I just held the restart button like I usually do and restarted it (that always fixes it). Only this time, when the computer restarted, it didn't make the "dong" noise when it restarted. Then, it got stuck on the apple logo and the spinning loading thing forever. I tried holding the power button and restarting a few more times, but it didn't change anything. I then did a safe boot and was able to get back into my computer. However, there were several issues. For one, the sound doesn't work. It won't let me adjust it; it just shows a full volume bar but with a slashed zero. I've tried plugging in headphones, but that doesn't do anything. Images are also problematic. When I swipe side to side between desktops and the dashboard, the image is really choppy and constantly flashing and moving. On safari, my gmail was going to give me a seizure the way it was flashing, even when I wasn't moving the page. Other websites (particularly video playback) are also a problem. Lastly, some settings got screwed with in my Microsoft word 2010. My default line spacing is now different and my quotation marks and apostrophes are now automatically huge and in the style of some chinese font (even when using cambria!). Can anyone tell me what the **** happened to my computer and how I can fix it? Thanks!

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.

5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.

If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Macbook pro touchpad/curser problems.

macbook pro touchpad curser problems. typing randomly jumps to wherever the curser is resting at the time. unbelievably maddening. multiple devices same all have same problem. hard to believe we cannot find anything on the apple site about this. MANY complaints outside of this site on this issue... clearly a touchpad/battery design flaw being ignored by Cupertino. during the writing of this post, the curser jumped randomly and started typing in a different location six times. IMPOSSIBLE to use as a word processor since typing becomes quite frustrating. HELP. any ideas? Fanboy and shareholder. three macbook pros in the house...all the same problem. (please do not offer separate keyboard as solution...this is a laptop, not a Surface Pro...)

Go step by step and test.
1. Restart
2. Shut down the computer.
    Clean the trackpad with moist not wet microfiber cloth.
    System Preferences > Point & Click
    Try turning off three finger dragging and then turning it on after testing.
3. Is there any Bluetooth device nearby with failing batteries? If so, replace the batteries.
4. Reset PRAM:   http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
5. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
6. Close all windows and quit all applications.
    Click the Spotlight -the magnifying glass icon- in the menu bar. Enter Disk utility in the box.
    Select Disk Utility from the drop down. When the Disk utility window opens up,
    select Macintosh HD, then First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk Permissions button.
    Ignore the time remaining estimate.

Hello everyone,
Every time I watch a video on youtube (on any browser) my macbook pro starts freezing half a minute, works fine for 10 seconds, then freezes again... This started a couple days ago. The only solution is to restart and not watch video's... Anyone know how to solve this?
I have a pretty old macbook pro, from around 2006. I've never had this problem...

Repair gave me this message, "SUID file 'System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent has been modified and will not be repaired." Any suggestions on this message and/or what else I can do to get my computer back to the way it used to run? Thank you!

It says 199.15 GB free of 499.25 GB. Can I remove the Remote Management program to solve the other unrepairable problem?

Macbook Pro starts up, has a small loading bar, and then shuts off after a few seconds, but the Windows bootcamp partition works fine.
The repair disc option (using install disc) failed, and the computer cannot locate the original Mac side partition. Only Bootcamp appears under options to "restore from backup" or reinstall. The repair disc options says it should be repaired but doesn't seem to know how.

Step by Step to fix your Mac
If it doens't work, you can recover files if you don't have any current OS X file backups, then grab what you can out of Bootcamp
Use Data Rescue installed on the extenral boot drive ($100) to read the bits of the internal (non-filevaulted) drive to retrieve OS X data files if you can't get them off manually via drag and drop methods.
Create a data recovery, undelete boot drive
If you want to clone Windows, use WinClone and another drive. However it's likely compromised, unless it something you did in Windows, like trying to create a new parttition perhaps?
Then perform a Zero Erase and install of 10.6 as shown here (on the entire drive, not only the parittions), this will give a new GUID partition table, EFI and map off bad sectors, totally fresh everything.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
You cna use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the new extenral setup to the new scrubbed internal drive. Recreate Bootcamp and WinClone back or fresh install Windows into Bootcamp like before. OR opt to use virtual machine software which is safer.

Windows 7 can write to the boot drives GUID partition map (unlike XP), this is likely why it's borked now.

Is the little LED on your adapter's MagSafe plug glowing when it's connected? What color?
It sounds as though your battery is drained and the adapter isn't charging it. Try resetting the SMC:

That may start the battery charging again.

Try starting in Safe mode by holding down the Shift key while booting. Safe mode takes a while to load the OS. After that, restart the computer normally.
If that does not work, start up in Recovery by holding down the Command and R keys. In the window that opens, choose Disk Utility at the bottom and verify and repair your disk. Repair permissions while you are there.
