Macbook pro still slow after erase

Hi everyone,
I have a slow performance problem on my macbook pro that I cannot solve. I tried already everything I could find here (see below) but nothing worked so far and that´s why I´m posting a new thread.
PROBLEM: Macbook got suddenly incredibly slow.
Start up takes up to 10 minutes (around 7 min for booting to log in, another 3 min before I can open any app). Shut down is faster but takes still longer than it used to. Moreover any single click takes ages while using the machine and I constantly get spinning beach balls even if I just check drop-down menus. Basically any operation takes ages now and I cannot work properly. Also audio stream from iTunes is not fluid and I get audio interruptions quite often. All of this was a sudden change: my macbook pro was always working fast and good. I cannot track back the start of this behavior to any update, installation or particular event. I don´t use my computer very often, do not install any crap, and only 200 GB or so were occupied on the disk.
WHAT I HAVE TRIED ALREADY:
- Checking activity monitor: nothing seems to be wrong here
- Utility Disk: SMART status of HDD is ok. Verified disk and permissions and repaired whatever had to be repaired (apparently only some permissions)
- Restarted in safe mode and then normally booted
- Reset PRAM
- Reinstalling Mavericks
- Went to an authorized store where they did an hardware check, said everything looked fine and suggested erase+fresh install
- Erased disk (after a complete backup) and did a fresh Mavericks install
None of this has worked. I now have a Macbook pro that should be as new but problem remained the same.
SYSTEM:
Macbook pro 13´ from 2012
OS X Mavericks
HDD 750 GB
RAM 8 GB
(let me know if more information is needed)
Some have suggested upgrading the RAM or the HDD or to change the HDD but I cannot believe the system all of a sudden needs more power (given that I don´t use it that much and it´s just two years old) or that the HDD fails after just 2 years!!
After weeks of struggling I am a bit frustrated and I hope someone can help.
Thank you

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Spotlight may be indexing your drive(s).  Click the Spotlight icon at the right of your menubar; if it shows things being indexed, that's at least some of the reason.

    Hi brn2win67,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you are experiencing performance issues with your MacBook Pro after installing OS X Yosemite. The following resource provides information if your mac runs slowly:

  • Early 2011 MacBook Pro incredibly slow after installing Mavericks

I'm really hoping someone can help me out. As per the subject line, I installed Mavericks on day one (and learned my lesson!).
Since installing Mavericks my MacBook Pro runs incredibly slow. If I open the Mail App and Safari - it almost grinds to a halt. I have the "Memory Clean" App which I now have to run constantly (it appears to help a little) and I try to only launch one app at a time where possible, but it's not really pratical.
As an aside, my MacBook ran really well with Mountain Lion, so there's little doubt to my mind that Mavericks is the culprit.
I'd be eternally grateful for any help & advice :-)
I spotted other people advise running EtreCheck, here are my results:

    CleanMyMac is probably your problem.
    CleanMyMac is crapware.
Crapware is anything that purports to "optimize",  "clean", "accelerate", "monitor", or "protect" your Mac. These apps are unnecessary, poorly written, overpriced (if they were free, they'd still be overpriced), and harmful. The people who sell this stuff know this, but they keep selling it because people keep buying it. They can damage your OS and be difficult to uninstall.
I would try to uninstall it, but if that fails, you may have to erase your HD and do a clean install.

    as well as this adware:
    [running]    com.conduit.loader.agent.plist [Adware! - Remove]
You can use either the manual method or download the app to do it for you:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/arg/
Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support
If your system is still sluggish after ridding your computer of these unwanted things, then consider installing additional RAM - 4 GB is considered the absolute minimum to run Yosemite.

Upgrading to Yosemite has resulted in the following issues with my computer/laptop:
    1. I have lost all sound and the sound options are no longer there after looking in Preferences.
    2. Safari only loads parts of pages and then takes forever to load the rest.
    3. Generally the computer has been slow with processes taking over the CPU and there seems to be a lot of hard memory swaps.
Attached is the EtreCheck.    Any help would be appreciated.   It appears that I also am missing some daemons that are launching.

  • Macbook Pro 2011: slow after yosemite upgrade

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to yosemite, and during the installation, the installation bar stopped at about halfway and stayed there for hours. Knowing that it was going nowhere, I powered the computer down and turned it on again. After this, the installation appeared to be completed because it let me actually use the computer, but it was painfully slow. So I redownloaded yosemite and tried to reinstall it. However, the installation got stuck at the same spot, and another manual reset resulted in use of the computer, albeit at a snail's pace.
So I tried to reset the PRAM, then i tried starting in safe mode, then i tried booting normally, none of which worked. After reading on these forums, I found out about Etrecheck, I was able to download it and ran it yesterday. Here are the results:
    Problem description:

Please and thank you for your help. I am currently writing ~2 words before the loading wheel comes up and stops me from typing for about 10 seconds.

There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive or other storage device to hold the data.
    1. Start up from the Recovery partition, from Internet Recovery, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
If you use FileVault 2, then you must first unlock the startup volume. Select its icon ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another disk icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar. Enter your login password when prompted.
    2. If Method 1 fails because of disk errors, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    3. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    4. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • Macbook pro runs slow after sleep mode.

This issue has bothered me for a long time already.
And because of this, I have re-installed the OS many times.
But apparently, re-installing the OS does not help.
The machine will runs slow again after a certain period of time.
    So, here is my problem.
When you do the four finger down swipe, there will be a zooming out effect, right?
(The same function as pressing F3, which let you knows how many applications you have opened)
This zooming out effect is smooth when I first bought my Macbook Pro.
It is smooth too after I re-install the OS.
But now, after a period of time, this effect becomes so choppy and slow.
As I mentioned above, I tried re-installing the OS. It works, but only works for a few days.
And then it becomes choppy again.
The only solution is to reboot my machine.
Can anyone suggest me what to do?
I guess I have to re-install the OS again tonight... LOL

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk instead of re-installing.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

  • MacBook Pro runs slow after Mountain Lion installation

I have a mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro with 2.2g Ghz processor, 2 GB of RAM and 160 GB encrypted disc.
After installing Mountain Lion and the recent upgrade OS X 10.8.1 (12B19), the system runs noticibly slower than with Lion, which ran slower than the previous version.  This shows up in opening and closing programs, rate that drop down windows appear when something is clicked on the task bar,  rate that windows open and close, rate that the dock comes up and the icons expand when the curser is moved over them, etc.
Due to my type of work, I need to encrypt the disc.  I know this is costing me some speed.  I unencrypted the disc and it ran noticably faster, and when I re-encrypted it seemed to run faster than before unencrptying and re-encripting.  I have repaired permissions and verified the disk OK.
Somewhere in the build up to Mountain Lion release I thought I read where 4 GB of ram was recomended for Mountain Lion, allthough now the specs indicate 2 GB is OK.  In activity monitor, the pie chart for system memory seems to always remain less than about 40% of active memory (yellow).
What recomendations does the community have to increase the speed of operations back to when this system was new?
    Dave

I was having the exact same problem.  My MacBook Pro was seriously close to unusable how slow it was.  On a different thread, someone recommended I reset the VRAM and PVRAM (not sure about those initials).  Shut down computer.  Rebooted while holding down Command-Option-P-R all at the same time until I heard the second startup tone and then released.  I noticed an improvement in performance immediately.

  • Macbook Pro got slow after upgrade to 10.9.5 (Mavericks)

    Hello,
I have updated my Mavericks system to the latest version released recently (10.9.5) and since then my system is much slower than it used to be (with side effect that fan is still active).
If I take a look into Activity Monitor, I can see that the process called opendirectoryd is consuming big percentage of CPU power (around 200%).
Looking into the console in system.log is giving me the following failure messages which are being displayed every 10 minutes (roughly):
    Sep 18 17:12:38 VLAPE02mac1446 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.opendirectoryd[1694]): Exited with code: 70
Sep 18 17:12:38 VLAPE02mac1446 automount[1700]: od_search: query failed: The daemon encountered an error processing request.
Do you have any idea what could be the problem?

    Hi from Russia!
I observe same behavior with my MB Pro Retina.
After login to corporate domain controller, opendirectoryd begins excessive consumption of CPU resources and memory. This activity can eat all the RAM, and then the computer dies.
In /var/log/opendirectoryd.log i see many sections like this

  • MacBook pro extremely slow after upgrade to Yosemite

after upgrade of MacBook pro to Yosemite everything runs extremely slow. Apps Internet everything. Any fixes for this?  I read email chains back from October.  Anything more current?

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem.

  • MacBook Pro running slow after USB flash drive

I mount a Kingston USB flash drive to my 30 days old MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.4
My Mac didn't recognize, so I inserted another one and it did recognize it.
And I notice my mac was running slow, some task that I did the day before (illustrator cs6) were really fast.
But after that USB flash drive it went slow, I thought it was and error and reebot it, also cleaning out the Cache and other stuff with CleanMyMac.
But it continues to run slow.
Please if someone knows what I can do I will appreciate it.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • New MacBook Pro Running Slow after repairs?

    Hi Everyone,
I have 3 month old MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz with 4GB RAM running Leopard 10.5.5 which I bought back in June.
It was working beautifully until a month ago when it suddenly had a problem where the trackpad, the keyboard and the left had USB port stopped working, but it would work with an external keypad and mouse through the right hand USB port.
I took it o the recommended Apple service centre and the fixed it in a few days by replacing the trackpad the keyboard, the uSB port and the logic board.
It all works again but has been running really slow ever since, even taking a long time to open up folders and about 4 times as long as it used to to copy files to USB flash drives.
Any ideas on things I can try to fix it up?

    Thanks,
Yes I just checked and there's still 4GB or RAM. Another thing I've noticed to day is that the Hard Drive seem to be making a bit of general low background noise when nothing is going on and the activity monityor says not much is happenning. From memory it used to be quieter in the past.

  • Why is my macbook pro running slow after os x yosemite upgrade

Why is my macbook pro running so slow after os x yosemite upgrade

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The better your description, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What other changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

  • Why is my MacBook Pro very slow after installing Mountain Lion 10.8.5. - Solutions?

    Hello, hello
After waiting quite a while - I paid the relatively small amount, and got myselves a new OS.
But I am very disappointed of the speed - I see that this also was a problem with OS Lion?
Please assist me. Perhaps others have this problem as well?
    Some info:
    - 2,66 GHz Intel Core i7 processor
    - 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Also
    - Sometimes I run the Parallels Desktop 6 and 9 software, does this affect specs of the new OS?
Hope to hear from you guys.
    Sincerely,
    Harald

With only 4GB of RAM, how much do you have devoted to the virtual machine running under Parallels? Even if it's a small amount, it's going to make page outs and swaps used very high. From my perspective, 8GB of RAM is the 'sweet spot' for running Mountain Lion.
I'm assuming that you've a 15" mid-2010 MacBook Pro? If so, you can speed things up by installing the maximum 8GB of RAM. Go RAM shopping at Crucial or OWC.
Other than upgrading your RAM, the only thing that you can do to speed up your machine is to install a SSD. You can also check the SSDs at Crucial and OWC and decide if one is right for you.
