MacBook Pro suddenly looses all power and turns off

Hi folks
Ive experienced this twice in the last week, and jut pray that it doesnt ever happen when im working on an unsaved Logic Pro Project.
Anyhow, ill be working away and then screen goes black. All power is lost to the computer. You cant turn it back on untill you insert the power adapter. Both times it happend the power to the mains has not been plugged in. Once you install power Then it picks up power and it restarts.
Has anyone ever experienced this? Is this a known issue? Im just scared as tits that one day im going to be in the middle of something really important and its gona go wacko on me.
The battery is not dead, when i rebooted on the first time battery was at 16% second time it was at 22%

same here.
my MBP started doing it recently.
for once, battery goes out of juice pretty quickly.
but there is still some juice left (last time - 17%) and suddenly the machine just switches off... like that... no warning, no sleep, nothing....
I did the "battery formatting" and also reset PRAM (?) (switched it off, took the battery out and kept power button pressed for 10 secs)
I do not like this behaviour. Interestingly, the battery has been replaced (there was a battery recall action about a year ago)
Awaiting some hints re: what can be causing this...

I advise to reply to the one you want to reply to.
You have had good information here. I will not repeat that here.
    I would like to add:
you have incompatible software: start in SafeMode, read Woodmeister and see if it is free of issues.
Akamai is crap software needed or not, Huawei the same.
It is very possible that the keygenerator you used for generating a key for some softwares has infected your mac.
The non-regular software with the false key(s) are not compatible probably or generate malware. Luckily you can not update them automatically because the keygenerator blocked the software for contacting the developer... I propose to consider getting rid of those softwares by really good uninstalling.
You have a beautiful mac, don't degenerate it with crapped software. There are alternatives for expensive software, for example Adobe Photoshop has a free alternative (with a less beautiful interface) in GIMP. And so on.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have a Mid 2010 15-inch MacBook Pro, and your log is showing a NVIDIA graphic card problem.
Apple has determined that these computers have got a defective NVIDIA graphic card, that may cause unexpected restarts, black screens, kernel panics... See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
Fortunately, Apple is repairing all of these computers for free, so just make a backup of your data and take the MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller to get your computer repaired. This repair may take some days depending on the place you take the MacBook Pro, because the whole logic board has to be replaced

  • My MacBook Pro 15" i7 the Display just turns off suddenly

I have to press the power button till its shut down start it normally then when i've logged into my account a pop up error message shows up. please i dont know what to do help me!

  • Late 2007 MacBook Pro 17" lost all sound and gets hot!!

So my late 2007 17" MacBook Pro has been acting up. Not only has it been slow but also...
    1. It gets really hot! Fans running at 6000 rpm according to IStat Pro and fan control is not helping.
    2. It crashes. Every time I try to edit video or do photoshop, the fans start blowing, it gets hot, freezes and crashes very quickly.
    3. All my sound is gone. I get the Apple chime when I start it up, but my music and any video online gives me no sound.
    4. Once in a while I get a distorted line across my screen.
Any ideas what could be my problem? I downloaded SMART Utility and it told me my hard drive is failing. So I'm in the midst of replacing it. However I doubt that will solve all my problems. Or will it?
I also discovered that one way to regain the sound I would just have to reset my PRAM, which I did and it didn't solve anything. Therefore I found that it could be that my logic board backup battery is dead? How do I know for sure?
    Any other thoughts?

When I read "crash," "distorted line across my screen," "it gets really hot," and "2007 17" MacBook Pro," the first thing that comes to mind is logic/graphics board. Visit your local Apple Store, and see if they can validate this suspicion or not. The SMART utility reading usually precedes a drive failure, but it's hard to conclude what's happening here.
In the meantime, make sure you're completely backed up. If you don't back up, purchase an external HD, and back up with SuperDuper. Preserve your machine by running things at lower temperatures (under 160•F), and keep an eye on iStat.
Oh, and tell us the problem when you know.

  • Macbook pro 17 starts but then just turns off

My 17 in macbook pro starts with the chime, shows the apple, but then turns off before it goes any further. This happens whether using just the battery or just the power adaptor or both.
More info: Below the apple symbol, there appears the spinning icon and below that an approximately three-inch empty bar that starts to fill up with black from left to right but only gets a fraction of an inch before the computer shuts down. I assume that filling bar is indicating the beginning of the start-up process.
I can 'slave' the computer to another working one and see all my data and so forth. But on its own it simply shuts down.
I have tried starting in 'safe mode' but the same thing happen, with all the same start-up icons and then it shuts down. I have tried holding down command, option and P and R together. Same result.
    Any suggestions?
    What is my problem?

OS X v10.6- Gray progress bar appears under Apple logo during startup
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

MacBook pro won't boot up.  When power button pressed the white screen w apple comes on w progress bar but shuts off before bar completed. If I move cursor or hit buttons it boots but will turn off if cursor stops Moving or stop pushing buttons.  Just started happening.   Ran hardware test and all shows ok.  Any ideas??

Thanks for all the help; however, I still continue to have problems booting off of any other media.
I've tried the Apple CD w/ no success - I made an image of the apple cd and restored it to a USB drive, and it won't boot. I've tested both methods on another mac, and both options boot fine.
I'm going with my last restort here and am going to install OSX on a portable USB HD, and try to boot off of that (no clue if it will work given the outcomes of the other things I have tried). From there I'm going to backup the HD, and try DW as suggested.
Any thoughts as to why the mac refuses to boot off of any other media? It always boots halfway and then tells me I need to shutdown my mac.
    Thanks again,

  • Macbook Pro 10.6.8 will not turn off, restart, or even sleep after upgrading to OS X Mavericks

It was working fine for the first 4 days until now, the computer won't turn off, won't restart, and won't sleep. When click on those button, the computer has no response. Also the iMessage App appears to not working as well. I tried forced turn off by holding the power button, but then it takes about 1 to turn back on. And now after it is on ago, it won't turn off again. And the Imssage is not working again. Other apps seems works just fine. Any suggestion?

  • MacBook Pro boosts up but then automatically turns off

So I was just sitting browsing the Internet, online shopping and stuff. All of a sudden my computer went black, but the light in the corner said it was still on. I held the power button to restart it. It turned off and I waited a few minutes. When I restarted it, the boot up screen came on with the apple and a loading bar. Once the bar finished loading the computer turns off. I keep trying to turn it on but the same thing keeps happening. Someone please help! I don't know how to fix it!

    SMC RESET
Shut down the computer by pressing and holding down the power button.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer by pressing and holding down the power button.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • MacBook Pro (June 2010) freezing with screen turned off (not sleep)

    Hi.
This issue has happened to me two times now. I recently bought a Macbook Pro 13 inch and the problem has happened when I let the computer sitting there without moving anything with its lid opened, after like 20 minutes when i'm going to use it again it has the screen turned off, the fan on and the indicator light half way on constantly but anything would respond, to use it again I have to hold down the power botton until it turns off.
It was not sleeping because I have the sleep timer set to never, what I do have on is the sleep display timer to 15 minutes.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Please help!
Now I got this then of turning it back again and a 3 min loading of the OS.
What could it mean, I don't know how to read this please

  • My Macbook Pro has a noisy fan and shuts off from time to time

Every once in awhile while using my new 2011 15" Macbook Pro (which I purchased in August) the fans will start running really loud. I usully dont even do things that require a lot of power such as working on Office docs and surfing the web. Sometimes it gets so bad that the computer just shuts off. Then when I turn it back on it wont boot up for a few minutes. I've already taken it to the Genius Bar twice and they were unable to replicate my problem so they would not replace it. Is there any quick fixes for this issue?

this sounds like its overheating. when it does this can you tell what graphics processor is in operation, you can do that by either using gfxCardStatus (a app that sits in the menu bar that tells you which gpu is in operation) or by going into the more info section of About This Mac and under display it should say which processor is in use at that time, either the AMD discrete GPU or the Intel Integrated one

  • Bluetooth Macbook Pro Retina Won't Respond or Turn Off

I have a wireless trackpad paired to my Macbook Pro Retina via bluetooth. This has been working fine for a fair few weeks up until the last few days when the trackpad stops working and starts searching for bluetooth, but my bluetooth says it's on. I try to turn off the bluetooth on the Macbook and it will not turn off. It just freezes and stays "on" but not working. In addition, every time I try to access the bluetooth settings, everything on the setting page works except for the "turn bluetooth off" button.
The only "fix" I have found so far is to restart my computer which is a huge hassle. Anyone else with this problem or know how to fix it?

A couple of things to try,
    SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Follow directions for a battery you should not remove yourself
    NVRAM/PRAM reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
You may have to reset some of your prefences after this, including the BT set up, as this "flushes" out the set up which may have become corrupted somehow.
If no joy post back, there are a few other things to check.

  • My 13" MacBook Pro (purchased in June 2012) just turned off and won't turn back on. I've tried resetting the SMC. Still no luck. The MagSafe 'L' connector is faintly flickering green. The battery was at least 25% when the computer suddenly went dead.

Any tips on what else I can try before I take it in to Apple?

I have the exact same problem. how did you fix this?

  • If my IPod suddenly shows apple sign and turns off and shows Itunes plug-up sign, what am I supposed to do?, If my IPod suddenly shows apple sign and turns off and shows Itunes plug-up sign, what am I supposed to do?

I am not very technical and mechanical so I have no idea what to do about this..help??
