Purchase new superdrive, takes 2-3 weeks for shipping at my city.
It can't be done. If your computer has an internal optical drive, working or not, that is the drive you must use. Only computers such as the Macbook Pro Retina/Macbook Air that have no internal optical drive can install Windows from an external drive.

  • I need to totally format my macbook pro 13" mid 2009, can i use my friend's macbook pro 13's dvds?

my macbook pro 13 is originally shipped with mac os x 10.5.7, now with 10.6.8, but i dont have the dvds with me, i also dont want any of the information on it, can i use my friend's macbook pro 13's dvds? what can i do?
My macbook pro 13" dvds have these on them
DVD 1: 13 inch macbook pro mac os x install dvd version 10.5.7 2Z691-6468-A Disc version 1.1
DVD 2: 13 inch macbook pro applications install dvd disc  AHT version 3A174 disc version 1.0   2Z691-6458-A

Would my friend's dvds work to format my macbook pro to factory settings as if out of the box?
i also had windows running on my mac, i used disc utility to erase the partition for windows, not bootcamp, so the partition is empty, i cant get the main hard drive extended as it was before because it gives me a message saying "could not modify partition map because filesystem verification failed", and when i try to verify it through disc utility it says that i need to my os x dvd and repair it, if i just format it, will that all go away?
    thank you

    Simple answer is no.
    Slightly more complicated answer;
You may be able to boot from the disc and use Disk Utility to partition and wipe the HDD (though it may not boot at all).
You can't install an OS from the other computer's discs. It simply will not allow the installation.
You would also be violating the software licence agreement.
As your originals are 10.5.x, you can buy the Snow Leopard retail installer (10.6.3) and format and install from that.

  • HT3964 2009 macbook pro superdrive will not load discs

2009 Macbook pro superdrive will not accept discs. The loading mechanism appears not to be responding. The mechanism may be jammed as it will not allow the disc to be fully inserted. Last time I played a disc I had trouble ejecting it. I managed to get disc out can't remember how. Think the disc must have partially ejected and I managed to pull it out. Can anyone help?

    Hi kayj128,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps for troubleshooting the SuperDrive built in to your Macbook Pro:
Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot-loading SuperDrive
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801
    Doesn't accept discs
Be sure to check your disc to make sure it is flat. You can check this by putting the disc upside-down on a flat surface. If the disc is bowed up on any side or in the center, do not use the disc because it might get stuck in the drive. Do not use discs that have anything attached to them or dangling from them (such as "sweeper" or cleaning discs).
If the drive struggles when you put in a disc or stops part-way, carefully look at the disc for labels that may be interfering. If there aren't any raised labels then try putting the disc in a few more times.
Try another disc to see if the issue is being caused by a specific disc.
Make sure you insert the disc far enough for the drive mechanism to activate. You need to insert discs nearly all the way before the drive will activate and pull them in. If you don't completely insert a disc, the drive will reverse and push the disc back out.
Allow the drive one or two seconds to accept the disc while it is fully inserted.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
If the drive repeatedly does not accept discs, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store.
    Cheers,

  • I have ps cs4 for mac version with the dvd, but my macbook pro has no dvd player, need download

i need a download version of pscs4 for mac since my new macbook pro has no dvd player.  I have the licensed version on dvd.

if you follow all 7 steps, you can download a trial via one of the links on this page using a browser that accepts cookies:  http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a download problem, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  typically, failure to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 is the problem, but your browser must also allow cookies so that's (a restrictive browser setting) another potential source of problems.

  • Loading CS5 Master Collection onto new Macbook Pro with no DVD drive

I have a complete, legitimate, registered version of CS5 Master Collection. I also have a new Macbook Pro with no DVD drive. I have lost the disk, but have the box and confirmation email when I registered the product, with the key code. This product cost alot of money and I really need to get it onto my new machine. Can I do this without having the additional cost of a new DVD drive? I already paid for and own the software with keys so it's not like I'm trying to bend anything or do it for free. Any advice would be appreciated thank you.

Download the CS5 Master Collection trial version from
    http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
You must follow the Very Important Instructions on that page first otherwise the links will not work.
Launch the trial and enter your serial number to license it.

  • Macbook Pro Superdrive damaged Leopard Install DVD

I purchased OS X Leopard recently and after backing up my data, I did an upgrade installation of Leopard and during the disk verification, the Superdrive emitted a strange buzzing noise and a minute later I received an "Installed Failed" error screen and was prompted to reboot. I rebooted and ejected my Leopard DVD and found a ring of scratches toward the center diameter of the DVD. I decided to try the installation again and skipped the disk verification. It installed Leopard successfully but when I went into the OS and tried to preform certain functions or open certain apps, the Macbook Pro would either freeze, or I'll get the grayed out screen telling me to hold the power button. After that frustration, I just did a HD wipe and did a clean install of 10.4 Tiger. I wish to install Leopard and I also fear my Superdrive failing on me again (since then, I've only had one other disc scratching issue).
If I have to get my superdrive replaced, would I get a replacement Leopard DVD?

    Call & ask Apple.

  • MacBook Pro superdrive problem

    Hi all!
I have a brand new MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 that has issues with som DVDs. There are no scratches or other visible defects on the DVDs it won't accept and as the MacBook is new I can't imagine I need to clean the laser. Is this an issue anybody recognizes and is there a fix for it shorter than taking it back to the dealer?

  • Macbook Pro Superdrive not working?

Although I have found many threads alike, nothing seems to have worked for me so far.
I bought a 13 inch Macbook Pro around Spring 2011 and have been using it with no issues until now.
The issue is that the Superdrive is refusing to read CD's and DVD's. With Audio CD's it spits them out almost instantly, but not before making a rather discouraging 'error' noise. With DVD's it tries to read them multiple times and usually takes around 30 seconds to a minute for it to eject it automatically and makes the same loading noise around 3-5 times during attempts.
I haven't used the Macbook to play many DVD's or games and I have only played a few CD's using iTunes. I discovered this issue yesterday after attempting to play a game in my macbook. I tried around 3 DVD's and CD's and all of them showed the same results. I am positive that this is a hardware issue as the DVD's & CD's play in other machines with absolutely no issues.
I have tried blowing air into the superdrive, resetting the SCM, repairing 'Macintosh HD' in Disk Utility, resetting the PRAM, running in Safe Mode and creating a new user account and obviously up to now, nothing has worked.
Is there anything else I should try before taking it into an Apple Store? I have made a genius bar appointment for next Monday but I am wondering if there is anything else that I should try first.
It is also probably worth mentioning that I have run the same discs in the past multiple times without fail, and also that the drive still appears on System Profiler. Perhaps also that I haven't used the Superdrive in a long time and I have updated this machine several times after using it. Also; I can't get hold of a lens-cleaner before Monday, so that's out of the question.
If it is a hardware issue, and the Superdrive does require to be fixed/replaced, how much would this cost, as my Macbook is technically no longer under Warranty?
The name listed in System Profiler states: HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N under 'Disk Burning' and it also says 'Reads DVD: Yes'.
    Many Thanks.

First, if the Mac is still within its one-year base warranty, get it over to the Store pronto so the drive can be replaced for free.
Second, if the Mac is still within its one-year base warranty, seriously consider purchasing the 2-year AppleCare warranty extension right now. Can prove to be cheaper than having to pay for repairs down the road.
If the warranty is kaput and none of the above apply, can check in PowerBookMedic.com or IFixIt.com for the cost of a new drive. Cause it seems like it is kaput too. Unless you're all ten thumbs, replacement is fairly straightforward. The same places mentioned have detailed videos or pictorials on the procedure.

  • Why won't my Macbook Pro recognize a DVD-R?

    Hiya,
I have a recently-burned DVD-R in perfect condition (no scratches or anything) that my Macbook Pro refuses to recognize.  I put the disk in, and just get an error message saying "The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer".
    Any thoughts?

Is it really burned? I've had some false burnings, where the media is left blank. Look at it with bright light at an angle: should be evident by a slight change of shine if burnt.
If yes, does it read in other equipment? The optical system may be dirty; pick up a DVD cleaner disk at the local music or computer store, the dry kind that has tiny bristles on the "business end" that clean the lens.
Have you tried resetting the PRAM? I sometime had to do that on my previous and now dead '08 MBP.

  • Macbook Pro superdrive busted

I am a newbie !! I have created a projuect in iDVD using iTunes, imovies (AVHCD clips) & iphotos.  The project file is 4.2gb.  I am using Macbook Pro late 2008 version.  I have jst been told that the Superdrive is fault and cannor write files onto a DVD.  I am wondering if I can burn a iDVD project onto an external DVD drive and how ? I am using Lion OSX.
I've also got another Macbook, which networked and has iDVD, is it possible to "share" the project and burn a DVD using its drive? would it take long ? etc.
    Thanks

    Follow this workflow:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
Check the encodingby mounting/opening the disk image and play it with DVD Player.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Now you can copy/move the disk image file to your other Macbook and burn it to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
