MacBook Pro Temp?

I was wondering, what is the avg. temp my macbook pro should be at.
Because i just intalled Temperature Monitor and its telling me my
- SMART: is 107.6 F
- CPU Core 1 is 127.4 F
and my CPU Core 2 is 136.4 F
Is this seem normal? Im new to mac and I just want to make sure my baby is healthy.

I get usually 63-66C on iddle and sometimes goes up
to 72-73.
I was trying the yes dev/null/ thing and my cpu went
up to 90 and then the fans lowered it down to 80.
Are this temperatures normal?
Otherwise I am still on the 14 days to exchange it!
I get the same exact thing on my week 25. I don't see anything abnormal about it.

  • Macbook pro temp and processor noise, is it normal?

Hey guys. My macbook pro is about to be 11 months old (early 2008 model) and now when im in a quiet room, I get to hear the noise of the fan. I don't know if its me but i can hear the fan at 1999rpm or 2000rpm. The noise is not annoying, but I am just curious.
Also, I been noticing that I can hear the processing noise. Is it normal to hear the processing noise of the cpu at a quiet environment?
Here are my istat temp (while running Safari) so far:
    HD: 39c
    CPU A: 45
    Airport card:47c
    Enclosure Base:34c
    GPU Diode: 56c
    GPU Heatsink: 46c
    Heatsink A: 47c
    Heatsink B: 40c
Is this all normal? Please let me know, thanks.

I too can hear my hard drive if I put my ear close to the case. Since the scan didn't show anything, I would think the faint spinning noise would be considered normal.
If you are worried about your hard drive, there is another little utility you might like, and it is free. It's called S.M.A.R.T Reporter:
    http://www.corecode.at/smartreporter/
It will install a little hard drive icon in your menu bar which will be green if your S.M.A.R.T. status is verified but will turn red if the hard drive starts to fail. The idea is to give you an early warning if your hard drive decides to head south.

  • Macbook Pro temp getting hot

    hi,
i am all new to apple Macbook pro and also Mac os, i recently noted that my macbook is get's very hot when i play games on it and usually its temperature is about normal, but as i play game (like Assassin Creed 2, GTA VI or other ) it just get so hot that i cant even touch it, specially the back of macBook and the upper left conner of over the keyboard is too hot - touching it for a while may perhaps burn the skin.......please some one help
Below is my MacBook Pro specs(I bought it from Japan)
      MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011)
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
      Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
      Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)
      Hard 500 GB
And as you may now that 15-inch MacBook Pro include two Graphics/Display Card
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    with auto switching tecnology
maybe, in my opinion when i play game, The garphic card is switched to AMD Radeon HD 6750M and start getting hot
    please some one help!
    thanks alot
and also it battery get low very fast

I don't have the 15" but I'm also of the opinion that the current notebooks get way too warm (sometimes I compile software (via Macports) and the thing gets HOT). In the past, I have used a laptop cooler from Microsoft:
    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/microsoft-notebook-cooling-base/Z3C-00 001
It's pretty good, in my opinion. To be honest, it does not bring down the internal temperature readings that you can get (via software like iStatMenus for example), but it did save one degree on the temperature reading "left palm area". The difference for the bottom plate is absolutely noticeable by hand.

  • GPU 0 Die Temp Sensor ERROR on a MacBook Pro. Can anybody help?

    Hello.
My wife has a 15-inch, 2.4GHz MacBook Pro model 3.1 laptop.
All of sudden the screen started to flicker, and after that,  it could no longer be booted. Applelogo visible but the timewheel stops and nothing happens.
I managed to get hold of a copy of ASD (Apple Service Diagnostic) for her computer, and I found out what was wrong:
There is a test called "Temp Sensor - GPU 0 Die Temp" that fails. I get the following message:
"Temp sensor GPU 0 Die Temp test 1 - Sensor Reads Within Operating Range
    - Check to ensure that sensor reads within operating range.
ERROR - Unable to read sensor
    - TEST FAILED -
Temp sensor GPU 0 Die Temp test 8 - Sensor Noise Test
    - Checks that sensor Noise is within spec.
ERROR - Unable to read sensor
    - TEST FAILED -"
If I look in the "Hardware Profile" under "sensor" I find the following:
    "Sensor
    type:            Temperature
    location:            TG0D
    low-limit:            15
    high-limit:        85
    reading:            1.0
    description:        GPU 0 Heatsink Temp
    noise-tolerance:    1.0"
The thing is that the problem seems to be intermittent. It comes and goes. All of a sudden the test passes and I can boot the computer. Some days the computer can  work for a whole day, so it doesn´t  seem to be related to temperature.
What do you guys and girls think? Is this fixable by myself? Does anybody know where this sensor is located? Maybe it´s just a bad connection, since it´s intermittent?
I feel I have come a little bit on the way to be able to solve this issue, and it would feel like a failure to be forced to leave the computer at an Apple Service Center, if it´s even worth it to do that. There is a risk that the computer is not worth a repair.
Could someone please chime in here for a clever advice?
    Thanks.
    Bo Reimer.

    Welcome Bo!
It may be related to a known problem with MBPs 3,1 and 4,1. Some had a bad Nvidea Geforce 8600M GT video chipset that could fail under high heat cpnditions. There is an Apple Repair Extension Program (REP) that will fix the defect at no charge for up to four years from date of purchase:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
You'll need to have an Apple retail store or an authorized service provider check the computer with a special test gadget for positive ID of the problem to qualify. If it does, you get a new logic board. Reported turnaround for the fix is from same day to three days.
If their test does not turn up the Nvideo curse, you still have an affordable repair option if you live in North America (It would he helpful if you fill in the "Geographic Information" field in your profile--at this point I'm having to assume you're in N. America)).
The option is a depot repair. Apple sends your computer to their central refurbishment facility and bascially fixes anything outside of cosmetic damage for a flat fee of about US$315--much cheaper that a new computer. Taxes and shipping may apply.
People who have used this option are reporting excellent results and a turnaround of about one business week.

  • My macbook pro is running at a temp of 120 F or usually above 50C is this a normal temp for it to be running at? Just had it cleaned and the one fan does seem to be working properly. it

Just had it cleaned, and made sure the one fan is working. It just seems hot to the touch, and temp is above boiling point!

  • Macbook Pro Temperatures.  Normal Temps?

I just got a 2011 15" Macbook Pro. I installed the iStat Pro widget to monitor performance etc but I'm not sure how to interpret the temps.
Could anyone fill me in on what the average temps should be for the various temp readings this provides? What's safe whats not?
Obviously these will change depending on whats running etc but is there a certain range I can maybe keep a look out for
Thanks for your feedback in advance!

Can the MBP stand this heat?
Macs--both desktop and notebook models--have featured thermal safety protection for a long time. If the temps approach the levels where damage could occur, the system shuts down to safe itself. The shutdown point for the MBP varies with the version, but it is usually quoted as in the vicinity of 200-212F (93-100C).

  • Macbook pro 13" 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 with temp at 90degcelcius

Hi, i just got a macbook pro 13" yesterday, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7. I previously owned a 13" macbook pro also. However, my concern is that when i'm not using any applications and nothing is running, the laptops' temp goes up to 90degrees celcius. Why is this so? And I have to manually increase the fan speed to 6000rpm using smcfancontrol.. Please help.

If there are no applications open, then clearly something is wrong.  Take advantage of you warranty and have the Apple technicians at the genius bar fix the problem.
You could run a Apple Hardware test just to see if you can pick up any faults.  I would not be surprised if your MBP has a bad heat sensor.
    Ciao

  • Bootcamp Temps on Macbook Pro 2.66

I just got a new macbook Pro a few days ago, 2.66 9600M GT, and I was wondering what kind of temps peopel are getting in bootcamp. Idle temps I am getting around 56-60 and heavier loads about 70-71.
I play left 4 dead and some CoH, and was trying to find out if theese are acceptable temps. I use real temp / core temp to find these temps out thanks !

  • Macbook pro 13" june 2009 fan rpm remains at 2000 rpm when temp is 85c

    Hi,
I've just bought a new macbook pro 13 inch and updated software vis software update.
I've noticed that the fan rpm went to 2700 rpm on every boot but
after a few minutes it goes down to 2000 no matter the temperature is
I'm using iStatPro to see the temp and fan
I've tried open youtube videos to raise the temperature to 71 but the fan remains the same at 2000
    Please advise.
    Thank you

    Thank you for the info
I've just tried resetting the SMC but no luck.
since this is my first mac computer so I'm not sure if this is normal or not
after an investigation with different scenarios of work load I found that
    room temp : 27c
    cold boot : cpu 45c
    : fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
    warm boot : cpu 58c
    : fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
    running parallels
    with windows 7
and visual studio : cpu 75c
    : fan 2000 rpm
The fan did kick in to 3500 rpm once the temp is 85c
I'm not sure if this is normal or not since my Dell M1330 xps
which running vista and visual studio shows only
    cpu: 58c
    fan: 3000rpm
    Thank you
I'm not thinking about using SMC fan control to set the default to 3000 rpm
and use it only when I work on Windows but not sure if the program will damage
    my new baby or not
    Thank you

This may not happen for weeks, or it may happen every time i restart.  I repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility, but the problem still happens.  The temp gague shows a max of 51C. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

  • Is it normal and safe for my macbook pro to be at this temp

So I installed Starcraft 2 onto my 2010 Macbook Pro 15" i7 and I also installed Fan Control. When I play starcraft 2 i noticed that the fans get louder and some parts of the computer are hot. I checked the fan control to see the temps and they reach 60-65 degrees. Is this ok? What would be the threshold of the computer?

If the CPU temperature of your machine rises into the high 90s (C.) and stays there even with the fans running at or near 6000RPM, then you may have a problem of some kind that requires attention. If the CPU temperature ever reaches 105°C, the MBP will shut down for its own protection. That is the upper limit of the CPU's safe operating range, according to Intel's specifications.

  • Near idle temp 15" MacBook Pro?

I am fairly concerened about the heating / cooling of my Early 2011 15" MacBook Pro. I have noticed for a while that doing very light work such as web browsing (non-flash websites), email, or listening to music in iTunes can cause my fans to spin up to a ridiculous speed for a short period of time (10-20 seconds) before slowing again. Today I took a closer look and took screen shots. I had iTunes playing music in the background and had two tabs open (both Apple Discussions) in Safari when the fans sped up to about 5400rpm according to iStat pro and the CPU temperate was at 173 degrees. Now I didnt get to capture a screen shot just then, but I took one soon after of iStat and activity monitor so you can see what my operating conditions were like.
As a point of comparison, I have my old 15" MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo at about 30% CPU usage sitting on my bed and its CPU is only at 153 degrees and the fans are at the base 2000 rpm.
I have read that there may be possible thermal paste issues on these. I just am trying to see if my temps are higher than what others are seeing.
    Thanks!

I guess I should have been clearer about the locations of my Macs. My old MacBook Pro that I was using as a comparison is on my bed. My 2011 MacBook Pro is on my desk up in the air on a mStand so it has penty on air circulating around it.
Well, that's half good anyway. Still, a drastic change in the CPUs between the two machines, with CPUs generally getting hotter with every iteration. That's one of, it not the biggest, restriction on developing new CPUs.
That said, I realize you're looking for comparisons from other people with the same MBP as you have. I hope they'll post, but if not, there are plenty of threads on the subject available through the search function.
