MacBook Pro Temperatures.

My Macbook Pro runs at 122 F, and when I play a game it runs at 165-180 F. Is this normal? Can the MBP stand this heat? I do live in the caribbean so it tends to be pretty hot here. I was wondering if it was my fans or if this is a common issue with Macbooks. It is late 2010 15' 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 with 8Gb Ram.

for starters, my macbook pro is a 1.83 ghz intel duo core, 512 mb ram, 128mb graphics card. it supposedly comes from the batch produced on the day of 31st March, 2006. I think it is a revision D.
So far, doing normal tasks like web browsing, etc, my macbook pro has been at a temperature of 42 degrees celsius.

I have a MBP 1,83 and I did the "yes-command" with two Termial Windows, that means my two processors are running at 100%. The
Fans are running and holding a constant temperature of 75°C.
In "normal-work-mode" the temperature is rising up to 62°C, but this takes about an hour. At the moment I have a processor usage of about 6% and a temperature of 48°C.
When I am at about about 62°, I get the "mooing". I am very sure that this is caused by a fan on the left side, because I get the same noise, when I do the "yes-command" but then the fan is accelerating. When I get the mooing it is going up and after a little while down.

Retina Macbook Pro temperature issue

Just got my first ever macbook pro (retina model) and although I am loving it until now, apparently sometimes it gets too hot to keep working on the lap under normal use. Normal operating temperatures range b/w 35-45C for CPU heatsink and 45-55C for GPU according to iStat Pro. The temperatures jump to 60-70C forthe GPU and 55-60C for the CPU heatsink while watching videos on youtube. Is that normal? Does this has to do something with flash videos?

This is quite normal. Your MBP can get up to a temperature of up to 80˚Celcius before damage can occur. Your MBP will automatically shut down when it reaches 100˚Celcius. Do not put your MBP on your lap it can cause burns even at the temperature you stated.
You can open up activity monitor and check which programs are eating the most of your CPU and quit them if necessary.

Macbook Pro temperature after installing Mountain Lion

Hi guys,
I wonder if any of you could give me a little help.
I installed ML about one week ago and i've been noticing that my macbook pro (from mid 2009, 13inch) has been increasing. With itunes, chrome a minor download program called igetter CPU temperatures are around 65/75 and if I open anything new, normally a new page on the browser for instance, it easily reaches 80/85. What puzzles me is that CPU usage is still really low...
I have repaired some permissions with Onyx and clean up some programs i've installed so far but nothing changed this issue with high temperatures.
I really don't know what else to do...

Macbook pro temperature

I've installed Arch under dual boot on my macbook pro (13" late 2011) and everything seems to be working fine, except for the fans.
The laptop gets really hot when I boot in Arch, especially in the top left corner (where the charger plugs in) gets seriously alarmingly hot. Sometimes when I touch the spot with my finger just to check the temperature it actually hurts. But somehow, even though the laptop is extremely hot, the fans just don't do anything. As soon as I boot back into OSX, they start working. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

MacBook Pro temperature threshold

I travel 100% for my job and I am curious as to if anyone knows what the temperature threshold is for the MacBook Pro? Right now I leave my MacBook Pro inside an InCase backpack inside my rental car in the front seat of a secured parking lot. However, outside temperatures where I am are only getting up to about 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Are there any specifications or recommendations from Apple regarding “don't have your MacBook Pro in outside temps below xx degrees, and don't have your MacBook Pro in outside temps above xx degrees?”

I just came back from a roadtrip to Vegas and we were driving in 110 F weather, sometimes more. My MBP was in the trunk in a black case, where I thought it'd be reasonably shielded...but when I took it out the entire case was scalding. Do I have anything to worry about? It seems to be working fine...any words of reassurance would be great; I just bought this thing and it's my baby.

Macbook Pro temperature higher than ever after Leopard

My Macbook Pro is getting to very high temperatures after installing Leopard, simply browsing applications like iPhoto.
Was there any major change on the power management?

On my macbook White 2ghz 1g ram since upgrade to leopard the fan will for no apparent reason take off like a jet plane for long periods of time. even when system seems to be idle, only mail, ichat, and the evil msn messenger running (no screensaver just slept monitor, No time machine). This has turned my nice well looked after shiny white plastic at the bottom of monitor near vent a horrible brown color and warped the plastic surrounding monitor at bottom of screen (now leaving a gap)! will be returning this mb to apple store for there inspection as soon as possible. I'm not a happy chap!!! battery life also severely reduced and wants to keep charging for ever at 99% capacity. No probs at all with either fan or battery before leopard install. (All software/firmware up to date. No apparent run away apps) Can any one help?

It doesn't work... maybe because it's referred to a G5 and not with Intel Mac hardware.

Macbook Pro Temperatures. Normal Temps?

I just got a 2011 15" Macbook Pro. I installed the iStat Pro widget to monitor performance etc but I'm not sure how to interpret the temps.
Could anyone fill me in on what the average temps should be for the various temp readings this provides? What's safe whats not?
Obviously these will change depending on whats running etc but is there a certain range I can maybe keep a look out for

Lots of people are asking how hot is too hot. Here's a quote to be found on this site that can be useful when compared to your measurements:
Hot Tip
If you use your iPod or notebook in temperatures higher than its specified operating range, 95°F (or 35°C), you may permanently damage your battery’s capacity. I.e., your battery won’t power your device as long on any given charge. You may damage it even more if you charge the device in these temperatures. Even storing a battery in a hot environment can damage it irreversibly.
I found it when looking up how to maintain the MBP's (or any other) Li-ion Battery. If I understand correctly, you show tmperatures that are significantly higher in that area, right?

Macbook Pro 15 Retina mid 2012 Operating temperature

Hi everyone, i am looking for some information about Macbook pros temperatures. My mac is getting extremely hot, over 100 degrees C when i work in photoshop for example. When i watch youtube my mac reaches 87 degrees C. With all the apps quit my mac is 56 C hot. Does anyone know if its ok?

MacBook Pro 15 Retina: Safe Operating Temperatures

Using iStat Menus I was able to check my Macbook pro temperature. On average I would get around 45c (113f) and when gaming I would get around 70c (158f) to 90c (194f) Is this too hot? Can anyone tell me what temperature is too hot?

also, does the machine get enough ventilation w the lid shut? what if i'm maxing out processor / ram / video and bootcamp?

MacBook Pro hot when idle

I resently installed an SSD in my MacBook Pro and a DataDubler to have my orioginal HDD in the SuperDrive bay
I don't know it that has to do with anything but resently my mac is running hot (80ºC) while doing nothing. it idles with 2-5% usage... and if I turn op the fans to full and still doing nothing it get's down to 60ºC and it's in power savings mode (with only the 9400M graphics card)
is there anybody that has experiens the same, and know what to do...

I have exactly the same problem. I don't know if i'm obsesed with my macbook pro temperature, but before the ssd upgrade (i have made a Fusion Drive with one Samsung SSD 840 + Apple Retail 500 Gb 7200 HDD), the temperature was under control with my fans at 2000 RPM. At 86ª, my fans were at 2000 rpm and when my computer reaches 92ª or the process has been consuming cpu resources during a long time, my fans usually went faster. Only in that case!
But with my new install, and my new ssd, at 75ª i have my fans at 2500-3000 rpm. What's the problem? I have been comparing the cpu temperatures and are very similar, but the speed of the fans is always bigger than with only one tipycal hdd.
Of course, my macbook pro has all the content indexed, trim enabled, and my cpu is completely ilde!!! at 0%, 3000 rpm. That's unacceptable!
I have been reading about the problems of the nvidia MCP79 chipset. Apple has limited it's hdds to 1,5 gbps, but with the new ssds, we are forcing to the system to go at 3gbps. This will cause an increase in the temperature of the chipset (obviously is running faster and making more operations per second than before the update), but i'm not sure if this is the guilty success.
Any suggestions?

Macbook Pro Retina heat issues?

For any of you that have the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display, are you guys feeling excessive heat along the keyboard and on the aluminum directly under the screen? Just wondering, because I am. Let me know. Thanks!

I am a big "Macbook Pro runs too hot" proponent. So I went into my Apple store installed iStat on one of their new MacBook Pro Retina Display laptops and went for it. I ran HD flash video, I ran HTML5 video players. I went into iPhoto and held down the left arrow key and let the machine run through all the pictures as fast as it would load them.
I kept checking with iStat and am truly amazed. I am not sure if it is Ivy Bridge, the vent holes on the bottom, the way graphics are handed off between the descreet and onboard GPU, but that computer never warmed up to "2011" MacBook Pro temperatures.
I was doing some naughty things to that machine, and she performed like a champ.
I did notice the heat vent under the screen hinge has been redesigned and now there is a bigger gap between the vent and the edge of the screen. Like I said also the vents around the underside of the perimeter of the case might also help out, especially since the vents are located right under where the segmented battery is located.
As far as thermal issues. I am impressed.
The new MacBook Pro 15" with retina display is a marvel of technology. and I look forward to see what the second generation of this product looks like.

I'm really concerned about my Macbook Pro temperatures, so I have installed an application to monitor it regularly. and I have found out that my CPU core temperature sometime rises up to 90 C. also my GPU heat looks unusual sometimes. is this normal? if it is not what should I do?

I've been monitoring my temperature since I have Posted this message, and I have found a few interesting things, I'm using Temperature by Marcel Bresink Software- System:
1. two parts of my MacBook specially gets hot, the top left corner just below my keyboard, where the battery is located. and the on the left speaker I can also feel the heat, but the other parts are cool.
2. It usually gets hot when I am charging or discharging the battery, so I'm suspecting there might be something wrong with the battery, although it is operating normally, I also suspect GPU, If I'm not wrong it must be located somewhere close to the left speaker, but I might be wrong.
The software I use to monitor the temperature usually shows a value, between 25C and 28C for the batteries, but I suspect either the software has a glitch and is not accurate or the sensors are not functioning properly, since I can feel the heat very clearly.
3. The temperature is always normal, when the batteries are fully charged and I am using AC power.
4. When using the MacBook with battery, the temperature of CPU, and GPU and other components rise to an average between 85C and 95C, but there was an occasion the MacBook got super hot and when I checked the values they showed 128C, so I immediately shutdown the system.
I'm using a cool pad, and also I don't use applications that require heavy resources and process by the CPU or GPU or RAM. But that doesn't help much.
I'm really getting worried about this. any ideas about what might be wrong?
