MacBook Pro to a projector

MacBook Pro to a projector which works with an image of the desktop but when I want to play a movie or show photos the projector shows a blank screen. Any one help? Connected via Lightning / HMDI lead.

&otIt really depends on the projector. I do this all the time too but your mileage varies. The most consistent way to get it to work is to "mirror" the displays (function-F7). This seems to work for me about 80-90% of the time. When in normal mode (expanded - mirroring off) it works about 20% of the time.
you can also trying setup a very "dumbed down; resolution. 640x480 or 800x600 seems to work better on most older projectors. the display looks a little crappy but it is what it is.
The MBP has had projector issues from the start. I hope Apple addresses it some day.
I've compared the MBP side-by-side with my older Powerbook and a Dell laptop. Both of these machines will work flawlessly with most projectors but alas not the MBP.
hope this helps.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved.  That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

I am trying to hook my macbook pro to a projector, which has a VGA cable. I bought a VGA to HDMI adapter, but whenever I hook it up, the screen on my macbook just goes black and I can't make it do anything else or even show up on the projector.
My laptop is still on; it just has a black screen that I can't get rid of without shutting down the computer by holding the power button.

    Hey there lynmrigg,
It sounds like have an HDMI to VGA adapter connecting your MacBook Pro and your projector but the screen on your computer goes black and no image appears on the projector. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help resolve or isolate the issue here, named:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • 17" Macbook Pro + PPT + Classroom Projector Trouble

17" Macbook Pro + PPT + VGA Projector Trouble
what makes the mini dv (adapter to VGA) out to classroom projector become non-functional for PPT Presentation view.  It worked fine up until I installed Maverick.
As soon as I try to start the slide show, it goes into "extend desktop" mode (not duplicate displayes) and will not show the slide show on the screen.  I have tried different resolutions settings but it does not change anything.
    Thank You!

    Hi Keith Davison,
Thanks for the question. Your MacBook Pro definitely supports video signals via Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters (see About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters). If you are experiencing issues with this connection, you can use the following resource to troubleshoot:

  • How can I display a slideshow from my Macbook pro on a projector using a nine pin connection?

I have prepared a slideshow that I would like to show to a group of people using a projector and screen.  I know the projector uses a nine pin connection but I don't have anything like that on my MAC.  Is there a connecting wire that I could purchase that would use the USB port, or any other and then fit the nine pin?
My Macbook Pro was purchased in the summer of 2012.
    Thank you.

    Dianita,
Normally you would need a mini dvi to VGA adapter. VGA is 15 pin connection, serial is 9 pin, are you certain about the pin count?
Check the projector pin count, as this would rather unusual. If you discover that you need a 15 pin, you can use the above mentioned adapter plugged into a standard VGA cable. Available at Apple store, or do a search online.

  • Macbook Pro and Vga projector problem

Ok this is probably an easy question for someone clued in on apple tech.
I have a macbook pro 15 (2010)  I connect to my classroom projector via a vga cable to the mini-port on the side. When the projector shows the picture it is not what i want to show, but a blank homescreen. If i go back to my macbook and drag the document or movie all the way to the right, so it is off the screen then it shows up on the projector screen. After it shows up I can use it, but have to use if from the projector screen as I can no longer see it on my computer.
Have I messed up my settings, or is this normal. I would just like to plug the projector in and see what i see on my screen on the projector screen, at the moment I can choose either edit on my mac but the class can not see it, or edit on the projector which is hard as the mouse is on the mac.
    Can anyone offer a suggestion
    Many thanks
    Aky Hunt

I know what to do on a PC but not a macbook. Basically it sounds like your display is extending to the second screen, not duplicating (meaning what you project and what you see on your mac screen are the same)
Try to poke around in the set up slideshow or display settings of your program (keynote?) and see if there are controls for extending or duplicating the screen.
What program are you using? If there's a forum for it I can ask the hosts to move this to the specific forum and see if it can get you a more precise answer faster. Or we can just get them to move it to the macbook forum.

  • Ipad to Macbook Pro to LCD projector

I have a MacBook Pro and IPad 2. Doing a PPT with the MacBook Pro using the mini display port to VGA adapter connected to the LCD projector. I would like to display an app from the IPad to the LCD to the screen. I realize I can connect it directly to the projector. But I was wondering if I can connect the IPad to the Macbook via USB and configure the MacBook to display the IPad on the screen via LCD projector.

  • How to switch Macbook pro screen to projector in Windows

    Hi guy,
I've bought a Macbook Pro Intel based and I've installed O/S Windows XP on it.
When I use Windows, I want to change my screen to projector for my presentation but I can not do this. I pressed hot keys from F1-F10 on my Macbook Pro but there's no signal on my Projector.
When I use Leopard, it's working well but in Windows is not.
Could you please help me how to switch screen to projector in Windows installed on a Macbook Pro?
    Thanks and best regards,
    David

I dont have access to an XP machine but im sure you can access the external display via right clicking on the desktop and try extending to second desktop or using the ATi controlling software to use the secondary display.
afaik theres no way to use the Function buttons (on a mac) like you would on a normal laptop.

  • How to use MacBook Pro with SXGA projector

Because it provides better display capabilities, I want to purchase an SXGA projector.  The MacBook Pro I have only supports 1440 X 900.  SXGA is 1400x1050.  Is there anything I can do to make the two compatible?

Thanks so much MartinR.  I had just looked at the supported resolutions  . . . didn't look for the external Resolution which was, as you said 2560X1600.  I truly appreciate your taking the time to respond.!!!!!  I don't know why my response says that yo9u helped me . . . you solved my problem!!!
    Cheers!

  • Cable Connection from MacBook Pro to LCD Projector

What cable do I need to connect my 2011 MacBook Pro (Fall edition) to a standard LCD Projector?

Assuming the projector has a VGA input, this type adapter should do it.

  • What do I need in order to connect my Macbook Pro to school projectors?

I heard something about buying an Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter, but I read that this only applies to the old Macbooks. My Macbook is one of the newest ones I'm guessing since I bought it not more than two months ago. It is a 13.3" Macbook Pro. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Have you looked in the user guide? There should be a section about connecting to an external monitor. The newest models probably have a Thunderbolt port, so you would use a Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (that may be the same as the Mini-DisplayPort to VGA adaptor.)

  • Connecting macbook pro to hdmi projector

Trying to hook up a mac book pro to an epson projector with hdmi cord to a mini display to hdmi converter but it is not recognizing anything? I want to watch movies purchased on Itunes on the projector screen with the projector or on the 1080p tv I have. This is frustrating!

The first thing is to rule out the adapter before pulling your hair out.  Try connecting to another display or projector to see if that works.  If it doesn't, the adapter is suspect.

  • How to connect Macbook pro to a projector with the Mini Display to VGA adapter?

When I connect them nothings happens, the display has a blue screenshot for a few seconds and then get back to the normal view of my desktop. It's the same if I digit "cmd+F2"... Please help me.

The default method for adding a second display is called Mirroring. It uses a lowest-common-denominator approach to choosing display resolution, and often guesses wrong.
System preferences > Displays > ( Arrange) and drag the superimposed representations of the two displays away from each other to invoke "Extended desktop" instead. Then you should be able to set the resolution for the projector to a more reasonable one, and your picture should appear.
