Macbook Pro to HDTV flickering

I am currently running a mini displayport adapter to DVI to HDMI into my HDTV. I can connect and get the signal running to the TV but the signal to the TV flickers off very frequently (about every 5 to 10 seconds). I know that apple released an update for a their MDP to VGA adapter but I am running DVI. Also, the DVI adapter works fine when plugged into my computer monitor, no issues. Anyone have the same problem or know the solution. I do realize that the problem could just as well be my tv but i thought Id check.

If you use an HDMI cable, the audiostream will be integrated, so there will be sound when using an HDMI cable!
Not necessarily.  That only works as stated if you have one of the most recent MBP's that has a built-in HDMI port.
If the MBP only has a Thunderbolt or miniDisplayPort, you need an appropriate adapter cable and even if you use an HDMI adapter or cable to connect to your HDTV there is no guarantee it will carry audio.  You have to determine if your specific MBP model supports audio out through its miniDisplayPort or Thunderbolt output, and whether the adapter does likewise.

  • MacBook Pro "Retina display flickering"

MacBook Pro retina display flickering, the Genius Bar says they can't fix it, that this is normal. Is this true?

I have no idea why you are posting this on adobe business catalyst.
This is not the place for this.
This is Adobe, Not Apple, They are not the same company.
But as a note, its to do with the latest release of Adobe Flash.

  • New MacBook Pro to HDTV issue

    Hello there,
I'm simply having the problem where I am not allowed to go more than or less than 1360 x 768. If I go lower or higher, the colour of the screen just turns absurdly bright and I've tried taking a screenshot from that and it seems fine when I am back on the only resolution that I am allowed to be on. Furthermore, the top of my screen flickers whenever there is movement on the screen. Finally, I want to be able to use 1080p.
I am raising this issue due because my MacBook Pro Dual Core (2004) was able to run off DVI to HDMI without any problems and I am now disallowed and annoyed by this new issue. By the way, I am using the Moshi HDMI Video and Audio input to HDMI on my LED TV.
Please help me on this issue. Thanks.

By the way, the only reason why this display is accepted is because it's running on 105Hz instead of 50/60 Hz. I have tried it on another HDTV (LG) and the same issue was there. Is there a way where I can run my MacBook Pro on 50/60 Hz? It would be great because it seems like Steam games only allow me to run on lower refresh rates.

  • Video out from MacBook Pro to HDTV - no solution?

I've had this problem for over a year now and nobody has been able to help me solve it, not even the Apple guys. I need to get the video out from my MacBook Pro (Mini DisplayPort) to my HDTV which is an older model which only has Y/Pb/Pr analogue video inputs. Does anyone know which connectors I can use in order to get 1080i on my TV? My thoughts were MDP to VGA first so that we get an analogue signal, and then VGA to Y/Pb/Pr? Would this work? Why/why not? Please help!!!

  • "Mode not supported" when connecting MacBook Pro to HDTV

When I connect my MacBook Pro to the SAMSUNG widescreen HDTV and hit "Detect Displays", it does detect it as VGA Display and it gives me a bunch of options for resolutions and refresh rates, but there was no "Options" tab where I could check or uncheck "Overscan" and even keeping the refresh rate at 60 Hz, and even trying mirrored and non-mirrored screens, nothing worked. It still said "Mode not supported". I used a dual-link DVI to YPbPr cable which I just bought and my friend can connect his MacBook Pro to his HDTV with the same cable, but it doesn't seem to work for me. What's wrong?

  • Macbook pro to hdtv - Cant fit screen properly

    Hello
i connected my macbook pro to my 42 panasonic plasma tv, and worked perfectly, even sound (using dvi to hdmi adapter), but im having this little issue, which is, the screen does not fit perfectly, im always missing the upper bar and ive read i could use the "underscan" option, but when its in mirror mode, its greyed out (means i cant play with it). Now, when i uncheck mirror mode (so both laptop and tv screen are active) then i am able to use underscan, but my idea is to use mirror mode only. Any idea how to solve this? Its not a problem on the tv's side, already played with all kind of configs without luck, so i just wonder why underscan is not enabled
    any help will be appreciated

By design, most TV sets are designed to overscan -- that is they zoom the image slightly, so that you don't see artifacts that appear at the edges of the image. Most HDTV sets have a means to disable this feature. On Samsung sets, for example, it's called "Just Scan". This is probably what "Underscan" means for your Panasonic set.
If you are in mirrored mode and the resolution of the Mac isn't set to the same as the native resolution of the display (either 1920x1080 for a 1080p set, or 1280x720 for a 720p set), you can't disable the overscan. You need to set the Mac's resolution to that of the TV. The Mac display will be distorted as a result.

  • MacBook Pro to HDTV

When I connect my MacBook Pro to my HDTV through a mini display port to HDMI cable w/audio support I only get video no sound from the TV.  How do I get sound on the TV?

which macbook pro do you have? only the late 2010 models started to support sound via hdmi.
for the rest of us, we need to use the headphone jack with a miniToslink to toslink (otical audio). Most tvs and recievers from the 90's will have this input.

  • How can I connect my new macbook pro to HDTV, either wirelessly or via a cable?

I just got a Macbook Pro about a month ago and I'm trying to figure out how to connect it to my HDTV. Is it possible to connect it and simply use the HDTV as a display that way?
Ideally, I'd like to connect it wirelessly, but if not, I understand that a cable should work. I tried to look for a cable from one of the Macbook Pro's ports to the HDMI port on the tv... but couldn't find anything. My old Macbook had a DVI port and I don't think it exist anymore (unless I'm missing it).
    Hope to hear back soon.
    Guy

If your MBP can use it, I highly recommend the following adapter:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/Moshi_Mini_DisplayPort_to_HDMI_Adapt er
I'd be very surprised if it doesn't have a capable mini DisplayPort, since my not-quite-one-year-old MBP does.  But to be sure, first make sure you've got a mini DisplayPort, then scroll down on the page above and find a user comment titled "How you know if it is supported w/o guessing."

  • Macbook pro screen freezing/flickering   peripheral failure

    Hey guys
I use my Macbook Pro both at home for music production and live as an instrument. Recently I have been having problems, but for some reason these have never materialised at home - only in the live situation. I shall try to give as much info as possible, but I'm no use with Macs having been raised with windows machines.
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I have around 13GB free HD space
It is second hand and therefore I have no idea about warranty. I have had the machine for over a year.
    I THINK it's a 2008 17" model, although I am not sure.
    Peripherals at home:
    Digidesign Mbox 2 - USB
    USB Mouse (third party)
    M audio Oxygen 8 V2 keyboard - USB
HD TV as a second screen - DVI - VGA adapter
    Live:
Novation Nio 2|4 uadio interface - USB
    Novation Launchpad - USB
    M audio Oxygen 8 V2 - USB
(Software wise I a running ableton 8 suite with izotope stutter edit. I average about 6% cpu usage)
Recently, my audio interfaces have begun to fail, but only in the live environment. I can switch the Mbox for the Nio at home and there are no problems whatsoever. 2 shows in a row this had failed, so I made sure to test all the equipment extensively. After 2 days of using the Nio as my soundcard using a different USB cable and slot, I assumed the problem was fixed.
On friday night we were playing a show, and mid set the screen froze with glitchy sections - looked like someone had broken the matrix. The screen began flickering in and out very fast in a strobe like fashion. My peripherals were still working fine, so I continued with the show in the hope that I could just control the session from them. Moments later, the audio failed, ad the system eventually cut out. I attempted to buy time and boot up again, but the same thing happened almost instantly.
Now that i've had a chance to get home and try it out, it has been working for hours at a time until eventually doing the same thing. I have found that most the time my usb mouse will remain responsive, yet I am unable to click on anything. Again, the sound generally keeps working, but one by one the peripherals fail. The screen flickering has only been temporary in the home setting, and does not sustain throughout the failure.
I'm generally poor with electronics, but the general consensus seems to be that it may be some kind of electro magnetism/static/I don't know effecting it live? I have never had a single problem with the machine until now. These failures have occured both running on battery and from mains power.

You may be right that a part of the problem is due to external electro-magnetic interference, but could also be heat build up, and the fact that at home it runs for hours before an issue starts, heat is probably a part of the problem.  If you can, stop by an Apple store genius bar and let the techs run some diagnostics, explain what is happening and see if they can isolate the issue.  You may want to leave it with them for a few hours and let it sit there and run to see if heat is an issue.

  • Best way to play movies from MacBook Pro to HDTV

I have some hi-res 1080p movies on my MacBook Pro which currently runs Lion 10.7.4.  Planning on upgrading to Mountain Lion but my hardware will not support Airplay Mirorring (it's a mid 2009).  I will soon be buying an iPad 3rd generation also which of course does do Airplay to an HDTV.  Somehow can I get the material off the MacBook Pro directly to the HDTV though maybe the new iPad or even an Apple TV?  I will be running the audio through an external stereo receiver/speakers, so just concerned with the video.  Also had read that my model of MacBook Pro only supports video from the minidisplay port to HDMI.
Best solutions?  I may get an Apple Tv if necessary or anything within reasonable cost including any programs for the Mac or iPad.
Oh NOTE:  My movies are just avi or mkv files and NOT in iTunes.

I believe you can do Back up to Disc and burn them as Data Discs. (Be sure to check your burning preferences first.) You won't be able to view them from the burned discs, but you can use them to restore to your library. Burning the movie itself....I doubt you can get it to fit on one CD. Another option would be to invest in an external drive. I hear they're pretty affordable.

  • Methods of connecting 2009 MacBook Pro to HDTV

    Hello Apple Community.
    I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running OS X Mavericks 10.9.3.
I am looking for suggestions or methods to mirror/stream my MacBook Pro 2009 screen to an HDTV, either wired or wireless.
I would like to be able to just simply connect it via a standard HDMI cable like we do with all the other laptops, but my MacBook has no HDMI port.
Does anyone know how I might acheive this?

    Alright, thanks.
So it would seem like I need an HDMI cable that has a 3.5mm audio plug on one end, if those even exist.
No.  For audio, you will need something such as this:

I am assuming that the TV has RCA audio inputs.
Anyone know if there is anyway I could accomplish this over wifi or Bluetooth?
    No.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro to HDtv problems

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro from 2009 (1st aluminum body). I recently got a samsung HDTV, and when I hook it up to my macbook, sometimes certain programs come up in a distored, unviewable form. It is hard to describe, it looks sort of like a photo negative, with random rainbow colours throughout.
if I close the program (eg firefox) and reopen it on the hdtv with a wireless mouse, then it always works. But if I have the program open first, and then plug it in and try and full screen netflix, it gets all messed up.
I did cheap out on my hdmi adapter, and my hdmi cable. I'm not sure if either of these would have anything to do with it. Help!

    Hi
I've done the same thing, with no problems - the tv audio input selector setting needed adjusting, but otherwise fine. Some tv's are less than obvious how to have the audio input independent of the hdmi.
