With regards to the HDMI, is it DVI to HDMI that I want? <http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR842LL/A>
Only if you have a DVI port on the side of your MacBook Pro. Mine does, so I use a cable like that, only a far less expensive one (monoprice.com).
If your MacBook Pro is newer and has a Mini DisplayPort on the side instead of DVI, then that needs to be on one end of your cable. But since you are posting in this forum, I assume you have DVI.
Also, you will need a second cable to carry audio. Or a combination audio/video adapter cable which costs a lot.

  • Can't connect MacBook Pro to LCD TV

I have a S-Link mini display to vga adapter and whenever I try to connect it to my Samsung LCD TV or to my PC monitor, I have "no signal". I tried to detect displays many time and even rebooting my Mac, it doesn't work. What I have to do?

    Hey V.Kastner,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues connecting your MacBook Pro to an external display, in this case an HDMI TV. The following article may help in troubleshooting this issue further:

  • Connecting Macbook Pro to LCD Display using MiniDVI to HDMI Cable

I currently use an LCD TV to play movies from my Macbook Pro via the MiniDVI - HDMI cable. At the moment I just connect everything up and then use the Mirror Display in the arrangement settings. So my laptop screen is the same as my LCD TV screen. What I want to be able to do though is watch the movie on the LCD TV and also use the laptop to go on the internet, is this possible???

Yes. Turn off mirroring in the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference.

  • Ipad to Macbook Pro to LCD projector

I have a MacBook Pro and IPad 2. Doing a PPT with the MacBook Pro using the mini display port to VGA adapter connected to the LCD projector. I would like to display an app from the IPad to the LCD to the screen. I realize I can connect it directly to the projector. But I was wondering if I can connect the IPad to the Macbook via USB and configure the MacBook to display the IPad on the screen via LCD projector.

  • Using the macbook pro with lcd drain the battery?

hello guy i bought a macbook pro 13 last week and according to what they say  is up to 7 hours and im only getting like  5 just using the web or chatting or doing very basic stuff, i also  want to know if using the macbook pro connected to the lcd tv drain ur batter y too. thanx

I cannot quite undertsand all you just said.  Some punctuation to break up into sentences will help.
But if you are trying to say "I hope I did not spend so much for a product no beter than a Windows PC", then I think you will eventually find your $$ were well spent.
As I said, my work-supplied 14 in Windows PC laptop gets  at most 4.5 hours.  I get 5-6 under average use with my 15 in MBP.
Hang tight, you will firgure it all out.

  • Macbook Pro --- Acer LCD TV split screen???

    Hey all
I had a quick look and couldn't see the same question asked. So I have a Macbook Pro, and I have Eyetv running through it. I bought an LCD TV because I wanted to put the Eyetv window in a split screen on the new monitor so I could browse the net n other stuff on my computer screen, and then I could also use the TV through HDMI for things like PS3 n stuff. I was just wanting to know what the TV requires (specifications wise) to use split screen, because when I turn off Mirrored image for the displays the LCD TV shows up "Not supported". I havnt inquired with Acer yet, but I figured id ask if anyone has any ideas.
    cheers

I expect that additional display is working as designed.
The default is to use additional displays as an Extended Desktop:

  • Cable Connection from MacBook Pro to LCD Projector

What cable do I need to connect my 2011 MacBook Pro (Fall edition) to a standard LCD Projector?

Assuming the projector has a VGA input, this type adapter should do it.

  • Macbook pro retina LCD display vs. Retina Display

I got a Macbook pro retina mid-2012. But when I check the Displays, it says Built-in Color LCD Display (not Retina). Is my Mac actually Retina? Thank you.

That would indeed be a Retina display.

    Hello dean200180
It seems for your model, the best bet is to take it to an Apple Store. Don’t forget that there may be an Apple Authorized Service Provider near you too that can help you out.

  • How to connect my macbook pro to lcd

When I was shopping to buy hardware I brought a mini display to dvi & a dvi cable. When I got home I realised my lcd does not have a dvi port. I brought a
DVI Female to VGA Male adapter & connected it to my lcd. But my macbook doesnt to connect to my lcd. I am using windows 7 & osx.

For a 2010+ MBP you can connect with a Displayport to HDMI, which will include Audio.
With older MBP you will need a displayport to HDMI, if you want audio to the actually TV, then you will need to get a cable with either digital out from MBP to the HDMI, or USB audio mixed into the HDMI

  • MacBook Pro 42" LCD display

    Hello all,
I've looked and look but couldn't find the answer.
Can someone please tell me two things,
One, When Ihook up my MBP to my 42" LCD I have it set to expand the desktop and I usually run my movies in the expanded desktop. Is there a way to make the display my primary without Mirror? Reason I ask is cause I can't close the lid on my MBP without putting it to sleep ... and if I'm not plugged in then I don't get as much battery time as I want while on the big screen. I have an external KB and Mouse. Please help
Also, I have VLC and can't seen to find the Fit to Window setting for the expanded screen .. the one like Quicktime has.
    Any help is appreciated.

To run in lid-closed (aka clamshell) mode, you need an external keyboard and mouse.
    wired: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86286
    bluetooth: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300562
You can also use 3rd party utilities to override the lid-closed sleep.
    InsomniaX: http://www.semaja2.net/insomniaxinfo
    SleepLess: http://www.alxsoft.com/mac/sleepless.html
In VLC, there's Video menu > Fit to Screen (⌘3), just like in QT Player. (I'm using the latest VLC, 0.8.6f).
    Hope this helps...

  • Macbook Pro vertical LCD Striping

very distressed right now - my MBP was working fine this morning but when I brought it to work and opened, there was a thick vertical band that's obscuring about half the screen - I'm thinking this is a LCD hardware problem, but wanted to know if anyone else has encountered similar problmes and have gotten it fixed uner AppleCare...
    Thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you have Applecare, by all means make an appointment at the genius bar and have your Mac evaluated. If they determine that you have a hardware problem due to a defect in materials or workmanship, the repair will certainly be covered under Applecare. If the problem was caused by accidental damage or something like that, Applecare would not cover it, but your homeowner's or renter's insurance might.
You have nothing to lose by asking. Post back with how it goes.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook Pro, NEC LCD 2690 SpectraView and Leopard

    Hi

    Oops
    Try again
    Hello
I'm using a MBP wwith 10.5.1 and an NEC 2690 display. Whenever the screen sleeps, or the computer, and then wakes up, the monitor profile jumps to default. I didn't have this problem pre Leopard. Can anyone enlighten me?
    Thanks

  • Macbook Pro to vga

Any ideas on how to connect my macbook pro to LCD screen? I have firewire and thunderbolt ports.

ThunderBolt carries Video and accepts Mini DisplayPort cables.
Mini DisplayPort can be adapted to DVI. get a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and plug it into the Thunderbolt port. Insert the cable until essentially ALL of the metal end disappears inside the port.
If the LCD display is 1920 wide or less, Single-Link can support that resolution. If the display is wider than 1920 wide, it will require double data lines in the cables and connector, referred to as Dual-Link.
VGA is an Analog connection method and will not produce best quality on an LCD display.

  • Cracked macbook pro screen

I want to purchase a 2010 macbook pro glossy lcd led backlit display & screen & do the work myself But Im having a hard time finding the exact parts I need Does anybody know where I can purchase so I can save a little on the labor I did the same model for my friend & I had no problems but dont know where he purchased It was very easy to do took me 2 hours taking my time on everything.

Have you tried www.ifixt.com? There's another source, too, but I can't find it in my bookmarks - jwosten posted it a couple of weeks back. I'd give ifixit a try first - if they offer no joy, call back.
