Macbook Pro to Sony HDTV problems

I've got the mac connected to the TV with dvi to hdmi. I can see the screen background when the computer is starting up but not the log in window. I can see the display preferences, but not the preferences selection window nor anything else from the computer screen - no menu bar, no drives. I can't figure out what is going on. Any ideas?

It sounds like your internal monitor is dead--am I right? Press f7 to toggle between mirrored mode (external display clones what would be on the internal) and "extended desktop" mode. I think it's in extended desktop right now.
If your internal display does work and is going black only when the external is attached, then something else is afoot. Rememebr to attach the external while the computer is off so the OS can poll for and adjust its settings to accommodate the external's presence during its startup routine.

Connecting macbook pro to sony bravia wirelessly

Hello,
Is there a way to connect a Macbook Pro to an HDTV that are both on the same wireless network? I have a Sony Bravia KDL40EX521 that I bought a USB wireless adaptor with. Is there an app that allows me to do this? Alternatively, I have a PS3. I know Apple TV has a way to "mirror" a display. Does PS3 have an app that allows you to do this?
Any comments / advice would be appreciated.

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.

It depends which MPB you have and the inputs on the TV. The following assumes your TV has an HDMI input that will work with a computer.
This is if your MBP is from April 2010 or newer:

First connect the adapter to the MBP and the HDMI cable from the adapter to the TV, then go to System Preferences > Sound > Output > select HDMI.
Or if your MBP is older than that and you have a Mini DisplayPort, you can use something like this: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CBLMDPHDMID/
If it's older than that, for video you need a DVI or mini DVI to HDMI or whatever input your TV has. For audio, you need a 3.5mm stereo mini plug to RCA or optical (Toslink), depending on what audio input your TV has.

This is a scam. Do not phone these people, at best they will charge you for unnecessary 'cleaning' and at worst they will gain access to your Mac and steal your data. You've probably managed to install some 'adware' which is producing this fake warning. 'Adwaremedic' should remove it and is safe to use - please see

It depends on exactly which MBP you have, but based on your machine information showing 10.5.1 (which I would update), for video you're going to need a DVI to whatever type of input your TV has. For audio, you'll need a 3.5mm stereo mini plug to RCA adapter.

1. Reboot and immediately hold down command and R (two keys).
2. When you see the screen shown on this page, select Disk Utility and continue.

4. After Repair Disk, click Repair Permissions.
Quit DU and restart.

Macbook pro to sony bravia color problems

I am trying to hook up my macbook pro to my sony bravia tv. i have it hooked up through the pc input and i get a picture but the colors are all messed up. i was wondering if anyone knew how to fix the colors. i have tried the color utility on my laptop and the color settings on the tv itself and the colors are horrible. if anyone had any insight i'd appreciate it. thanks.

I completely get what you're saying with the different connectors but there is something very wrong. Don't get me wrong the picture's quality is acceptable; I mean it has smooth lines and, easy to read - etc. but the color is flat out wrong.
I know the TV can out put colors correctly, because last night I connected a Sony SR11 camcorder to the component input and all was good. I've only tested the Component and PC Input but the problem is definitely on the PC Input.
I do Graphic Design & Video Work for a living so I'm familiar when you talk about calibration, but this problem goes beyond calibration as I've been in and out of the OS and Sony's menus for calibrating and nothing seems to aid in the problem.
It seems some have this problem while others don't and what I'd like to know is if this related to a certain model # and version # of the Bravias or if its a video chipset issue. For people having problems like me --> raelle123 what graphics card you running? Also AldousH what graphics card are you using?
I know more than likely the simple fix is an HDMI cable and a DVI to HDMI converter but it really bugs me that I spent the money and the PC Input isn't working the way it should.
I plan on speaking with Sony today and trouble shoot with them. I'll also try taking video and putting that up today as well.

Macbook Pro connected to HDTV full screen problem

I connected my Macbook Pro to my TV via HDMI. When i have an application on the TV (safari) and press the full screen button (upper right corner with the 2 arrows) my Macbbok display shows this grey area. If fulscreen an application on the Macbbok display the same thing happens. Aslo when i navigate through the full sceen apps in one display hte other display also changes. Is there something that solves this problem?

This is just an educated guess, but I think your problem may be distance. It sounds like you've got 60' of cable running to a splitter, then more cable to two TV's that are 50' apart. This article seems to indicate HDMI distance isn't reliable with that much cable.
