Macbook Pro to Television

I have an LG television and HDMI cables are not compatible with it. (The tv will black out occasionally and it's just not worth it to use an HDMI cable anymore) So I use a component cable for my external devices (i.e. Playstation 3) I want to know if there is an adapter I can buy so I can connect my tv to my laptop in order to watch movies and use my tv as a monitor? I have seen the vga adapters, but have heard they do not last long?? Honestly I woldn't use it all the time so that's not a big issue. Any suggestions? And explanations would be appreciated.

Ive been successfully watching all my shows and iTunes .netflix etc using -  both my mid-2009 mbp and  2007 macbook pro connected to an LG HDTV  and newer Vizio hdtv..for well .over 3 years- with vga adapter and -vga cable- I admit ive been through a few of the adapters-( on third, but we watch a lot ...like hours a day ,)
I luckily haven't had to buy one yet -as i also have been in a house with multiple Macs, so   had multiple untouched apapters lying around...( vga adapters used? to come with mbp's  )
The trick is the vga cable: getting a thick  vga cables they are all  are inexpensive- and available everywhere- but i have paid for seemingly better vs of them,  but  found the thicker/coated  sturdier 'heavy' - less flexible  cables work  best and longest with the adapters -
i originally   tried the  belkin  HDMI TO vga. - it seemed  too good to be true, oldmac  turns into new pvr/ent station...one cable hd.. ..
but-I never had it working. Not with any/all device combos :
incl.  ps3  HDTV-black/white apple TV- and our many macs- so i say go  for vga - its pretty great- i hope this helps

  • Macbook Pro to Television display with HDMI cords "No Signal"

I cannot get my Macbook Pro to display on my LG TV when using an HDMI/mini port connection. I have checked the input and re-connected all of the cords, restarted the computer, etc. and I still see a "No Signal" sign jumping around my television screen.
I am updated to the most recent software (OS X 10.8.2) as well.
When I open displays (in System Preferences) it has "Show Mirroring Options..." checked off but no sign of my television.
I have tried looking through all of the other discussions and can't seem to locate my problem - Help please!

Early 2011 and later MacBook Pros have Thunderbolt, which is not 100% compatible with all mini-Displayport adapters.  Double check yours is by contacting the manufacturer.

how can i connect my new macbook pro 15" 2.4ghz to a television if the tv does not have an hdmi connector? what cables do i need? can you supply links to them please thank you!
i wish to show imovie edits with video and sound on my tv thru the laptop!

Connecting any computer to a TV without VGA, DVI, or HDMI inputs is a challenge, and will likely be fairly expensive.
You'll need an adaptor that converts mini-DisplayPort (mDP) to VGA, such as the Apple one available at the Apple store, or a complete cable solution like the one HERE. Then, you'll need a converter box like THIS one to convert from VGA to either RCA or S-Video. Then you can connect to the TV. Beware, the picture quality will likely not be stunning.
In terms of audio, any 1/8" to RCA adaptor will work just fine.

  • Connecting MacBook Pro to Television

I've got a 2GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro and I am looking to connect it to my 32' Visio LCD. If I go online the only DVI to HDMI cables do not seem to be compatible with my DVI slot. Will Apple still have some of these older cables in stock in some of their stores or online or should I look for third party?

Your MacBook Pro will almost certainly be compatible with those cables. The MacBook Pros have dual-link DVI-I support, which is the best, because DVI-I means that it supports BOTH analog and digital output and is compatible with DVI-A and DVI-D and dual-link enables it to drive resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600. I would recommend checking the video out specs for your particular MacBook Pro model, even though I'm 100% sure it'll support the DVI/HDMI cables Apple has and others well. You shouldn't have any problems with the cables. Hope it solves your problem!

  • How to hook up Macbook Pro to Television set

As there's no HDMI port, how do I hook up my laptop to TV?

Look for a Thunderbolt or minidisplay port on your MBP.  Then use a cable on order of this to connect the two:

  • Having trouble connecting macbook pro via HDMI to television?

When I connect my macbook pro to television via HDMI thunderbolt cord it flashes blue, then the mac does not recognize any other displays. I have tried all HDMI ports and am getting the same results. Please help, trying to watch netflix on larger screen.

I don't know that it wouldn't be best to simply get a 'smart' device (my Blu-ray player is the 'smart' device in my AV line-up) such as an Apple TV, etc., to actually view NetFlix movies. That's what I do - my BR player on Ethernet - and the results are terrific. Although I've used a Thunderbolt>HDMI adapter in the past (I don't have a machine with native HDMI ports) I find that the quality and speed is just better with a smart device.
    Just a thought...

  • How to connect my macbook pro to LDC television

    I have a macbook pro 13-inch, mid 2012 model.
I have an LCD television of 32 inch from panasonic (TH-L32C8K).
My TV does not have hdmi port but have vga and AV ports.
To connect to Macbook I bought an thunderbolt to hdmi cable. Then I bought an hdmi to vga cable. So my final arrangement is like this
    Macbook<-->thunderbolt-to-hdmi-cable<-->hdmi-to-vga-cable<-->Television
On the television i changed to AV mode to PC. But nothing is shown on the tv screen. My TV works with other thing. When i connect the macbook pro, it does not show anything. Can you guys suggest whats going wrong? Before buying this macbook, i was like dreaming about it. But now life became so hard using the mac. Everything is pricy and not compatible to outside world devices.

That's a complete mess and I am not suprised that it is not working.
Instead of getting two adapters, you could just get a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and a simple VGA cable, so you can be sure it will work. Maybe you should have looked for more information before purchasing anything.

  • How to connect my macbook pro to my apple tv to watch a DVD on my television?

How do I use appleTV to connect my Macbook Pro to my big television? I want to watch a DVD on my television... But don't have a DVD player...

You can use a HDMI cable.  The adapter you need depends on the age of your MacBook Pro.

  • How do I connect my mid-2009 Macbook pro to my HDMI television and get sound?

How do I connect my mid-2009 Macbook pro to my HDMI television and get sound?

Use a mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter and a standard HDMI cable to connect the computer to the proper HDMI port on your computer — the one that is paired with the separate RCA audio inputs (see the TV's manual for this information). And connect the headphone port on your MBP to those inputs with a cable that has a 1/8' stereo headphone plug on one end and two RCA plugs on the other. You'll also need to select the proper HDMI input in the TV's menu system, and you may have to select the headphone port as the audio output in the Sound pane of System Prefs on the Mac (or it may be selected automatically).

What cable do I need to connect my macbook pro to my television(hdmi)?

    If your Macbook has a Mini Display port and you want to connect it to an HDMI input on your TV you can use the Apple adapter available here;

A similar, non-Apple connector is available on Amazon here:

  • My Macbook Pro wont play sound through Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter on toshiba television anymore. The sound plays through sony or samsung television, but not toshiba television.

I have a Macbook Pro early 2011 running on mountain lion version 10.8.2. A while back, i purchased a mini display port thru HDMI port so i could watch dvds on my toshiba television. it all worked great for a while, then the sound just stopped working. At first, I thought the mini display port connector must have broke, until I plugged it into a sony television and it worked. I also tried using it through a samsung television and it worked just fine. Why does it not work through the toshiba television anymore? The picture works fine, but the sound does not come thru the television anymore. My mac is set to play sound thru the HDMI port and it doesnt. When i switch it to built in internal speakers, the sound comes thru my mac, but when i switch it, no sound comes out. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thank you!

I am still waiting to receive a response from them, but i dont think they'll be much help. the television still works fine and all of the ports on the back, including both HDMI ports, work perfectly.

  • Record television show to Macbook Pro

    Hey everyone.
There is a show tomorrow on my television and I really want to record it to my Macbook Pro.
I don't know how to record from tv to my Macbook Pro. It's my first time.
    I just got my Macbook, a tv and this mini-display port(Mini-Displayport-Male-to-Male-Cable-with-Gold-Plated-up-to-10-8gbps-Video-Bandwi dth.jpg)
Do I need some software or some cable or some other thing to do this recording?
I really want the easiest and cheapiest method to this recording.
    thank you.

If you read the website, the instructions are there.
In a nutshell, you need to purchase a TV tuner and the software.  The tuner is inserted in a USB port and connected to cable or an external TV antenna via a coaxial cable.  The software will allow you to record a TV program which creates a file.  That file can be viewed again and if you wish, edited to remove sections that one might not want.  It will record and play HD TV.
I have a slightly older version of this:

  • TS1696 I purchased and downloaded an episode of a television show onto my MacBook pro, as I have done before, but this one plays without audio. What gives?

I purchased and downloaded an episode of a television show onto my MacBook pro, as I have done before, but this time it only plays without audio. What gives?

Okay, so the download is possibly corrupt.  Did you try downloading again?
Also, you'll likely get more appropriate responses posting to the iTunes for MAC forum instead of the iTunes for Windows forum where this currently is.

  • I have connected my MacBook Pro to my television using the correct cables, but now I cannot hear sound, only through my MacBook. How do I get the sound through my television?

My MacBook Pro is up to date on updates and it's a Westinghouse television with a rocket fish hdmi connecting cord.

What MacBook Pro have you got? Not all MacBooks Pro can transfer audio through Mini DisplayPort, Thunderbolt or HDMI > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4241
If you have connected the TV to your Mac through Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt and your computer doesn't support audio over that port, you have to connect external speakers
