MacBook Pro to TV with RCA - Not working

Hi guys, I'm trying to connect my Macbook pro 08 to my new Samsung HD TV. I'm using a DVI-D to HDMI for the video which works great, but I'm using RCA to the headphone jack for Audio and it's not working. I've tried playing with the settings in my TV but cannot change the Audio input to analog. I'm guessing my TV thinks it's getting the audio from the HDMI, but the DVI-D does not carry audio.
Does anyone know how to get the audio to work with RCA cables? Or is there an adapter that can combine my audio into the HDMI input?
Any help would be appreciated.
(My TV has 2 HDMI ports, component, and RCA ports as well as a USB)

Yes, it is the ones on the left, but you're not going to hear any audio because your input selection must be on Component on the TV in order to get the audio out of that input.  HDMI and Component are two different inputs on your Input menu selection.  Do this, play some audio on your Mac and then flip to Component on the TV with your stuff hooked up.  I bet you hear the sounds, but no video and when you're on HDMI, you see the video but no sounds.  That's because it's two different inputs.
Also, your 2008 MBP doesn't support Audio passthrough the MiniDisplayPort, so you're kind hosed unless you do external speakers like Grant suggested.

When I unplug Apple headphones from my MacBook Pro sond from internal speakers not work, and system soud preferences displayed: Output: optical digital out port only

If you see a red light in the audio output port, then the internal switch is stuck.  Insert the earphone plug a few times and see if you can trip the switch.  If that fails, insert a cocktail stirrer and the like and jiggle it around inside.  If that fails, take it to an Apple store and have the technicians at the genius bar do it for you.
    Ciao.

  • TS3048 The keypad is not registering with my macbook pro - changed batteries but still not working.  Bluetooth says it is connected.  Suggestions please.

My bluetooth numeric keypad is not registering with my macbook pro - changed the batteries when the light started blinking - but won't work.  Bluetooth says it is connected.
    Suggestions please.

Your MBP sees the Bluetooth keyboard but won't pair with it probably because the keyboard is pairing with another computer or device nearby. If you had previously paired the same keyboard with another device, go to the other computer or device and either unpair it or have the device "forget" the keyboard. Then you will be able to pair the keyboard with your MBP.

  • Macbook Pro Pinch/Zoom feature does not work with Firefox 6

Can someone please tell me how to fix this major problem?
I can not get the Pinch/Zoom feature on the track pad to work on my Macbook Pro. I am running OS 10.6.8.
I have seen this below in other posts, and have tried it, but it STILL does not work !!!!
'''''Some gestures have been removed in Firefox 4.
'''You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the about:config page.

  • I wiped down the touch pad on my MacBook Pro and now it's not working well

I wiped down the touch pad with a damp cloth on my MacBook Pro and not it's not working very well.  What should I do to fix the problem?

Let it dry, it will come around. You just chilled it a little most likely, unless the cloth was very damp....
    Next time use rubbing alcohol.
It removes the oils and grease and dries fast too.
So your have appy to the cloth, wipe, flip the cloth and wipe up the dirt and grime, then start the process with a new clean section of cloth, else you place the grime back on.

  • MacBook Pro SD card reader is not working

I have a MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 with OS X 10.8.2.  The reader has been working until now.  I have tried several different cards with no luck.  After searching the community board I tried both an SMC reset and a PRAM reset but no luck.  (When I look in Disk Utility, I do not see the built in card reader.)  Any suggestions?

Anyone else with card reader issues should read this page. Just because your card reader doesn't appear to be working or has mysteriously dropped off your system doesn't necessarily mean a logic board replacement. I've repaired several portables over the years that had been quoted for costly logic board replacements, when in fact the failures were relatively easy to resolve once you understood the real problem.
It's common belief a PRAM or SMC reset should fix all hardware glitches but sometimes it just doesn't go deep enough, as I found out with my 2011 MBP. Simply removing the battery was all it took to resurrect my seemingly dead card reader, when PRAM and SMC resets failed to have any impact on the problem.

  • Macbook Pro Retina - nVidia card does not work correctly

    Hi,
having a MacBook Pro Retina. It ran fine till yeasterday when I fired up a game which was laggy and it was running fine before. It took me several hours to find where the problem is and it seems to me that the nVidia dicrete card is not working. But strangely not working. I installed gfxCardStatus to see whether the card is being switched to run the game and it actually is. But the performance is the same as running it on an internal Intel. I took another test and downloaded CINEBENCH to see the differences and sadly the results are the same if I switch to nVidia or to Intel and run the benchmark.
Obviously something is not right here. It happened over night. Before it worked corectly. I do not remember installing something that day/night that could have broken it (in case it is a SW problem). Only one thing comes to my mind - Apple Java update. But I tried to uninstall it and got the same result. I did try to restart several times. But otherwise there is no visible flaw, e.g. flickering or black screen when swithech do nVidia - nothing. gfxCardStatus shows that the system switches the card and I notice no change. Only in heavy load it is obvious that it is slow (slower than it was).
Is there a way to see if the nVidia card is working? I suspect that even if the system is trying to switch to a discreet card it still runs on the Intel in reality. Any way how to distinguish this rather than to rely on gfxCardStatus? Any log that would make this clear? Any test I can run (Apple HW test shows "no problem detected")?
    Many thanks for hints.

To show what I am talkin about I did another test. I downloaded and ran LuxMark. There it is possible to test CPU and GPU separately on a same benchmark scene. FIrst I let the system switch to nvidia and did the test:
Then I manually switched to Intel/CPU in gfxCardStatus and also selected CPU in the LuxMark and did the same test. The result is:
You see? How it is possible that in OpenCL computation CPU with internal graphic card is even faster then the descreet one? This is what I am experiencing now and cannot figure out where the problem lies.
Would the Apple HW test discover a dead nvidia card? Because nothing shows that the card is dead but as you can see it is not performing as it should.

  • Macbook pro late 2008 (unibody) backlight not working, trackpad issue

    Hi,
My wife is running 10.7.4 (Lion) on a MacBook Pro late 2008, first gen unibody. There is two issue with her computer.
The first issue is that the backlight keyboard is not working correctly. In fact, it is not working at all. My assumption is that it stopped working when it had a a display assembly replacement in 2010. My wife not behing to technical realized she did not had this feature when I bought a MBA 13" last year. It could be something with the system (OS) but I'm pretty sure it is not. I open the back of the case to see if something (a missing wire connectivity) could be found, but none step to my eyes. I did not want to dismantle everything in case I'll be making it worst!
The second issue is the trackpad. She told me many times that her mouse was not working as expected, and when I looked at, I finally found that the problem was not the mouse, but the trackpad. What I found is that the trackpad button, sometimes, stayed pressed. If that happen, eventually, the mouse is acting very trangely! My wife never uses the trackpad, so I can't figure out it is an abuse of it. To temporaly resolve the issue, I dissabled the trackpad when a mouse is connected in the Universal access system pref.
I plan to have it send to the Apple store next time I go near one. The Apple Care is expired...
    My questions are:
any idea of what may be the problem and is it repairable easily by myself?
Could it be that the trackpad is broken in anyway?
Could it be possible that the technician forgot to reconnect a cable near the keyboard (under the motherboard) that prevent the backlight to work?
    Thanks

  • Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 11) in 15" macbook pro i7 on Vista x64 not working

I am trying to get the audio working on my brand new macbook pro 15" i7 on Vista x64. It says the chip is Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 11) but there are no drivers available on the internet. I'm using the BootCamp 3.1 that came with the MBP's Snow Leopard 10.6.3 install dvd.
    Currently Vista says
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
    Thanks!

I solved this on my laptop just now, but not quite sure how.
I uninstalled the driver, and clicked the checkbox when uninstalling the driver to delete the files.
Then, after rebooting, it worked. I suspect it worked because I had earlier installed other drivers, which it then defaulted to. I installed the realtek audio drivers off the Mac OS X cd, but I suspect that wasn't it.
I installed cirrus logic drivers from here:
    http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/lic/lic3.html?uri=/en/pubs/software/CS4207WinVista_Win7_32-64-bit6-6001-1-21.zip
Or maybe it was the vista drivers I got from:
    http://www.stuffedcow.net/macbook_audio
Or maybe these two sources drivers' are the same - and I did just get it from the cirrus site
If you get it working, I recommend you reply here and state exactly what it was that got it working for you. Just make sure to uninstall the driver and in doing so delete the files too (there's a checkbox in vista). This way it will default to what appears to be older drivers if/when you install those.

  • MacBook Pro to Sony Bravia TV not working

I've bought this Mini Displayport - HDMI cabel today and I want to connect my MacBook Pro (mid 2010) to my Sony Bravia (KDL-32BX300) but there is nothing but a black screen on my tv. I've tried every HDMI input several times, but without any luck. My MacBook has no problem with finding my Sony Tv, and I can set the audio to go out via the tv. But still no adio or display on the tv. Any one know hoew to fix this?

Exactly what miniDisplayport-HDMI cable do you have?   That's probably the problem.
I use the following and it works perfectly between my 2009 MBP and Bravia TV:
    Apple miniDisplayPort-DVI Adapter
    Monoprice.com DVI-HDMI cable
Also, on the Bravia TVs you are advised to use HDMI #4 input.  I don't know why, that's just what Sony advises.

  • I have upgraded to 10.10.3 on my MacBook Pro now the Calendar is not working properly. Help please?!?

Yesterday I upgraded my MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2013) to 10.10.3. I immediately started having problems with it opening apps slowly. So I read and discovered it had replaced some of my apps with newer versions. I also restarted it 2 or 3 times. That seemed to solve that problem. This morning I get on and it is doing the same thing, but it is limited to the Calendar. Anything I try to do in the Calendar gets me the spinning beachball, from opening it to editing to adding an event. I have many dates and events saved that I don't want to lose. Am I going to have to reinstall the Calendar? If so, how can I do it without losing my content?

This is the note I sent to the other thread (Macbook is slow since OS X 10.10.3. I'm sorry. I hope this helps
I did not have a specific category that said "log list" once I got to "All Messages". It just showed "Log" so that is what I am sending you. The other thing is that the timestamp is 9:23:?? the next is 9:34:?? and the problem occurred at 9:32:??. So you are getting the log from 9:23 until it repeats.

  • Macbook Pro air port or ethernet not working.

I one of the original macbook pro with the glossy screen, its not reading the Airport or ethernet port? what would be causing this? its not showing up in system preferences or anything. the only thing that shows up is firewhire and bluetooth. any suggestions?
ive already tried a new airport card and re installing the operating system? anything else?

Silly question maybe, but you are not able to manually add either of the interfaces either? You do this inside network settings by clicking the plus button in the lower left corner of the interface list.
