MacBook Pro trackpad help - please?

Hi!
I know there are some answers to this out there but I can't understand them. Can anyone tell me, in very simple terms how I can make the 2-finger scroll work on my trackpad? I bought the MacBook Pro about 4 months ago and migrated my things from my iBook which was about 4 years old. If you can literally give me step by step instructions, that would be amazing.
Many thanks!

If you have done a migration assistant, some user library files could be messing some things up. Create a new user account on the computer (Apple logo at top left - system prefrences - users and groups - then click the plus at the bottom left.....if the plus is greyed out hit the padlock and enter your password) Create a new user account. Then have a look at the trackpad prefrences in there......are they normal?!

My Imac late 2012 running Yosemite does not recognise my Huawei 3g usb modem. itried to install Java bt still it does not although the same modem works with my MacBook pro . any help please

    Hey there mbarikiwa,
If your iMac still has not recognized the usb modem, I would use the troubleshooting for Yosemite USB issues in the following article:
OS X Yosemite: If a USB device isn’t working
If the device is connected to a USB hub:
Make sure the device and the hub are the same speed. Connect USB 3.0 SuperSpeed devices to a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed HUB, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices to a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed hub, and so on.
If the device doesn’t have a power cord and is plugged into another USB device that doesn’t have a power cord:
Try plugging the device directly into your computer’s USB port  or into a USB device that does have a power cord. You might need to disconnect and reconnect the other device as well, if it has stopped responding.
If you have many devices connected to your Mac:
Disconnect all USB devices except the device you’re testing, an Apple keyboard, and an Apple mouse. Make sure that the device is connected directly to the computer, and that any hubs or extension cables are disconnected. If you can use the device now, the problem may be with one of the other USB devices or hubs you had connected to your computer. Try reconnecting them, one by one, to your computer. When you find the device causing the problem, review its documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
Verify that the device appears in System Information:
Choose Apple menu > About This Mac. In the window that appears, click Overview, then click the System Report button to open System Information.
In the window that appears, see if the USB device is listed below Hardware in the Contents list. If the device appears but does not work, review the device’s documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
    Restart apps:
Quit and restart any apps that use the device.
    Restart your Mac:
    Choose Apple menu > Restart.
    Check your device’s USB connection
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Ram stuck in MacBook Pro. HELP PLEASE

Today I bought 8GB ram for my MacBook Pro late 2011 15 inch so I removed the previous ram that came with the MacBook Pro no problem but  when I went to go put the first Ram in I accidentally pushed it to far into the bottom and now it's stuck. What can I do to get it out!!! It's jammed in there tight and won't move i've tried pushing it away from the  back metal part but no luck. If I take it into the Genius Bar will they charge me for it I'm still under warranty It doesn't look like I have broken anything just the ram is stuck . Please help anybody !?

If I take it into the Genius Bar will they charge me for it
Even if they do, it will cost you a lot less than a new logic board, which is what you'll need if you cause damage while trying to extract the DIMM's by force.

  • Macbook Pro Recovery Help please!!!

I have a Macbook pro i am trying to restore. I have been trying since i got up yesterday. I backed up all my stuff on an external drive, restarted, went into disk utilities, erased Macintosh HD, quit disk utilities, went into OS X Mavericks recovery. It downloaded all my stuff and it went to install. Got a huge Yellow triangle with a "!" in it. Said it couldn't install and to contact the software manufacturer. Tried it again many times, but to no avail. Restarted it and got a folder with a question mark in it, blinking over and over. Restarted again and it went into Internet recovery. Got stuck a few times, but finally downloaded. Now it starts up as Mountain Lion Recovery instead of mavericks. (Was shipped with ML) I have tried to download many times but it starts off as the download being 5H 30Min then gets to 2H 13M and then shoots up to 9H 59Min, then up to 12H 56Min. My internet is not that slow. My connection is (as of typing this) 4.91 Down and 0.68 Up. What just happened is i tried it again. Recovery download got until 2H 18Min and went back up to over 6H. I then quit it, and restarted. Reset the PRam and booted up. Now internet Recovery is my only option. I put in my WiFi password and now it has the loading bar that isn't moving, and shows no time limit. I have restored this same mac before on the same network and it restored without a problem. I do not have disks, nor do I have the OS on a flashdrive. I have googled for hours on end trying to find answers to no avail. Help please!

I just purchased a used MacBook Pro and when I went to put in my icloud information it tells me something about 90 days and all my apps that I have purchased for all my other Apple Devices will not transfer over.
Does this mean my icloud will not work for 90 days? I cannot seem to find a spot to run the icloud or back up on this computer like my ipad iphone and mac computer.
Any information would help me a lot
    Thank you!

  • Lots of questions before buying a macbook pro..help please!!

So I am about to buy a macbook pro in the next couple of days with these specifications:
    MacBook Pro, 15-inch
    Part Number: Z0EZ
    Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
    Accessory Kit
    2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
    MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen Display
    200GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    SuperDrive 8X (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
After I get the computer I am going to upgrade to 4 GB myself (cheaper). This computer will primarily be used for video editing (I'm off to film school). Here come the questions!!
    1. This is probably a really stupid question, but the 15 inch macbook pro has an isight right?
    2. I am in need of an external hard drive (or two). I was thinking of getting 1 TB primarily for my video projects, and then another 250 GB hard drive for time machine. Are two external hard drives going to be too much for the computer to handle? What hard drive(s) do you recommend? Right now I am thinking a G-Tech 1.0TB Quad-interface hard drive and a 250 GB G-Tech hard drive (for time machine). Which leads to my next question.
    3. I would love to use eSATA with my TB hard drive...but there aren't eSATA ports included on the macbook pro (I think). So i researched and found the 2-Port NitroAV eSATA II 3Gb/s Professional Express Card (34mm). This would work with the computer right? Is eSATA necessary or should I just stick with firewire? I'm attracted to it because I will be editing video with the computer and I would love the increased speeds but I'm afraid it will overwhelm the computer.
Okay I think that's it! Any input will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

    1-yes
2-look at macsales.com, click on harddrives then all things fire wire. they have a lot of different drives ranging all the way up to a 2 tb setup (its 2 separate stripped raid set ups that are then mirrored against each other). they also sell some esata dives, not sure what size they go to but they hae them
fire wire 400 has some crazy top limit of drives you can chain together of like 40some odd so 2 will be fine, i have 2 running right now and no issues. i would suggest if you get the drives form OWC (macsales) you use the softraid program that comes with it.
3- you can get a pci card for the card slot which macsales also sells if you go though them so you dont have to go more than one place

    hi guys!!
my mac sound is not working also the headphones however if i plug the hdmi cable it works on my tv !!!!! I think it is a hardware problem!!
what do you think guys !!!!

    Hi a,
Have you checked the settings in System Preferences > Sound?
There is a switch inside the audio jack that may be stuck. Try gently inserting an audio plug, gently wiggling it, and then removing the audio plug.

  • Replacing SSD in MacBook Pro Retina- HELP PLEASE.

I just ordered a new OWC 480gb SSD for my MBPR mid 2012 15".  I am replacing the original SSD which failed.  I have a few questions about how to go about using the new SSD, once installed.
    here is some background.
    1) the drive will be blank and unformatted with no OS.
    2) I have a time machine back up on my time capsule. The original disk is completely dead.
    3) In addition to Mavericks I also run Windows 8.1
Questions- once I replace the old drive with the new one:
    A) how will I format my new SSD? I am guessing disk utility will come up when I turn the commuter on?
    B) how do I get Mavericks Mac OS on the new drive? Do I need to pay? How will I get my time machine back up on the new drive?
    C) should I format the new SSD a special way because I will be running windows on the machine? I ran windows with Parallels on the machine prior to my original SSD dyeing, was planning on doing the same with the new one.
    D) what, if anything, can be done to avoid killing this new SSD like the last one? I am happy OWC has 3 yr warrantee on it!
Thanks in advance for help and guidance. I am a relatively novice user, so basic explanations will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

You should be able to boot from your Time Machine back up and do everything Internet Recovery and Recovery Mode allows. If not, restarting with Command+R will search your drive for the Recovery HD and if not found envoke Internet Recovery. Or you can just boot with Command+Option+R to start Internet Recovery directly.
    A. After you install the new drive and IF it is pre-formated, you don't have to reformat it. If it's not, you can use Disk Utility from the OS X Utilities menu to format it.
    B. You can install OS X Mavericks from the OS X Utilities menu and during setup plug in your TM back up to restore your user account(s), apps and data.
    C. Nothing different for running Windows since you use Parallels instead of BootCamp. I have not used Parallels, but i would assume after restoring your apps you would restore your Parallels virtual machine image for Windows and open it.
    D. Do you know what killed your original flash storage drive? If you do, don't do it! If you don't, I personally don't know of anything that would prevent a computer component from failing.

  • I've installed windows 7 with the help of bootcamp on my macbook pro 2011. Please help me how to install mac drivers for windows7 64 bit???

I've installed windows 7 with the help of bootcamp on my macbook pro 2011.
Please help me how to install mac drivers for windows7 64 bit???

You either download drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant and save to USB FAT disk, or you insert and use 10.6.x OS X DVD when in Windows and install and run the SETUP from there.

Step 4: Install the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows
After installing Windows, install Mac-specific drivers and other software for Windows using your Mac OS X installation disc.  The Mac OS X disc installs drivers to support Mac components, including AirPort,built-in iSight camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and thefunction keys on an Apple keyboard.
The Mac OS X disc also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows and theApple Boot Camp system tray item.
To install the Boot Camp drivers:
1 Eject the Windows installation disc.
2 Insert the Mac OS X disc.  If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
    3 Follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows  Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
Windows that appear only briefly during the installation don’t require your input.
If nothing appears to be happening, there may be a hidden window that you mustrespond to. Check the taskbar and look behind open windows.
Important: Do not click the Cancel button in any of the installer dialogs.
4 After your computer restarts, follow the instructions in the Found New Hardware  Wizard to update your software drivers (Windows XP only).
5 Follow the instructions for any other wizards that appear.
6 Check for updated Boot Camp drivers by using Apple Software Update or going to www.apple.com/support/bootcamp.
If You Have Problems Installing the Device Drivers
If it appears that the Boot Camp drivers weren’t successfully installed, try repairing them.
    To repair Boot Camp drivers:
1 Start up your computer in Windows.
2 Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
3 If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
4 Click Repair and follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows  Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
If you need to reinstall specific drivers, you can install one driver at a time. For example,if your built-in iSight camera isn’t working, you can reinstall just the iSight driver.
Individual drivers are in the Drivers folder on the Mac OS X installation disc.

  • MacBook Pro trackpad constantly clicking

    I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro 5,1 15'  2.53 GHZ-4GB Ram. Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
My Macbook Pro trackpad is stuck constantly left clicking
    some right clicking
    moving around by itself
not always responding completely to touch.
In text boxes when typing it constantly erases text
Pretty much unusable when this is happening.
It will happen as long as it wants to and start working normally again with no rhyme or reason I do not see anything in particular that seems to trigger it.I did not just start this thread without searching the net and here. I am just looking for some opinions on if I should take it in for repair or if there are any other things I can try that I may have missed.
Here is a list of what I have tried so far.
    Reset PRAM and NVRAM.
Checked battery for bloating (even though that would not cause this problem would only cause it to stick had to replace once already).
Booted into safe mode (logged into seperate admin account I never use problem started again in safe mode after about 30 seconds of using trackpad).
checked trackpad screw (was fine but tried loosening it and tightening slightly to see if it helps.
Turn off, Remove battery, hold power for 5 seconds, replace battery and boot.
Using external mouse exhibits the same behavior (tried both USB and different wireless mice) This makes this problem seem more likely software not hardware
One thing I have not tried is deleteing the plist files for the trackpad I read that fix somewhere although I can not find the link now. If and when it decides to stop again I will try that next. I am A+ certified not ACMT but I can replace anything on it if needed so please mention anything you can think of even hardware. I would rather not restore the OS as I have about 300GB of data and transferring it to one of my servers  or external drive would be a pain, time consuming, and I have read it does not solve these types of issues.
    Please help
    Sincerely,
Frustrated but still happy Apple user.

Well after some further investigation it seems I may have had some malware. I receive a lot of packages and this one seem to have slipped by my spam filter. It's called Mal/JSRedir-J of course I also forgot to re install Sophos Antivirus after I did some software development work and was running strictly through my citrix server which is very secure. *Slaps self in face*.
I am running a thorough scan now but that trojan popped up. I was able to install Sophos after a reboot before it started acting up barely got my password in on install before cursor started flying around the screen.
So far so good. Hopefully it stays that way, and maybe this will help someone else. Virus is not always the first thing to come to mind when I think MAC, and this is my first infection in 4 years

My external hard disk not working properly in my macbook pro . anyone help me . its seagate  hard disk

You need to get some software that allows your Mac to read and write to the NTFS disk.  There's a whole bunch of stuff out there, but this program has a good review, and you can try it for free.  I would move everything off of your external drive, reformat it into Mac OSX extended, and use it for your Mac.  You don't need NTFS anymore, unless you still have a Windows computer that needs it.

After identifying the exact connectors you need, check the Apple Store online and/or eBay...you should be able to buy a cable with the correct connector on each end, rather than fooling with an adapter.
